This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of June, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1747], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the entity, [1747], …, Ohio, who seeks a Mental and Spiritual Reading, with information, advice and guidance that will clear the field for her regarding her stand on many things. You will give the entity that needed at this time, answering any questions that may be asked:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the inquiring mind, [1747].

3. In giving for this entity a mental and spiritual interpretation of the problems as disturb the body in the present, many phases of those held as tenets or beliefs should be touched upon. But first we would give for the entity that which is the basis for this entity approaching the study of phenomena of every nature that has been and is a part of the experience in the present.

4. And from same there may be determined that which is not merely idealistic but that as may be a practical, ideal manner of application of the physical relationships with individuals of various degrees of development, - of those mental attitudes which should be held in the study of the entity, in the interpreting for individuals of those problems and disturbances which arise in their experience.

5. Also there may be understood the spiritual and the ideal manner in which the entity may determine or choose within self that as may be adhered to, that as may be questioned, and that as may be discarded in the experience of the entity.

6. First, - there is the consciousness to the body of there being a physical body, a mental body, and the hope or desire for and the knowledge of a spiritual body. These are one, - just as the entity finds in the material plane, or the earth-consciousness, that it is of three-dimensional natures. Also, in the analysis of the various studies and approaches to the mental as well as spiritual understanding, the entity finds that there are three phases of man’s relationship or man’s comprehension. Hence in the earth there is, in reason, only the three-dimensional attitude. Yet there are the experiences of the entity, as well as of others, of more than three-dimensional concepts.

7. In the Godhead there is found still the three-dimensional concept, - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

8. Hence, - if this is acceptable to the entity in its conception of that which has been, which is, which may be, - these are still founded in that summed up in “The Lord thy God is One.”

9. Also, in the interpretation of the universe, we find that time and space are concepts of the mental mind, as to an interpretation of or a study into the relationships with man and to the universal or God-consciousness.

10. Then, there must be another phase in human experience that man also may complete this triune in his study of the mental, the spiritual and the material relationships in this material world.

11. Patience, here, may be the answer, - if there is the correct concept of what the proper interpretation of patience is in the experience of this entity.

12. Hence these being chosen, they are - then - the basis upon which the reason, the expectation, the application, shall be in dealing with all phases of the experience of the entity in this material relationship.

13. As is understood, then, - Father-God is as the body, or the whole. Mind is as the Christ, which is the way. The Holy Spirit is as the soul, or - in material interpretation - purposes, hopes, desires.

14. Then, each phase of these has its part to play, its part of influence upon the individual in its relationships to problems, to individuals, to its hopes and fears. For, each has its phase of expression in the activities of the entity.

15. Hence, as we find, these are then not merely ideals, but they are working, practical, everyday experiences.

16. Then, as the individual entity meets various problems, - with this analysis of the problem, - there is the questioning within self as to whether it is purely mental, purely the physical seeking expression, or the desire of the body-fears, the body-temptations, the body’s glory, merely the body’s satisfaction, or as to whether the problems are purely of the mental. The mind is the builder, for the holding of a problem does not change it one whit, - it is what one does about it that makes the change!

17. Then, to know to do good and not to do it is sin. To know the truth and not give expression is fault-finding in self. Yet know, until an individual entity - in time or space, or in acquaintanceship or in the friendship of an individual - sees in every other entity that he would worship in his Maker, he has not begun to have the proper concept of universal consciousness.

18. For, the very fact of an individual having a physical consciousness, no matter his state or status in the material plane, is an indication of the awareness that God is mindful of that soul, by giving it an opportunity to express in the material plane.

19. And thou art thy brother’s keeper. Not that ye should impose or impel another entity by thine own ideas, any more than God impels thee. For, He hath given thee the free will, the birthright; which is as the mind, that makes for the alterations. Hence ye may give expression even as He did, who came into the earth that we through Him might have eternal life.

20. Then, what is thy attitude?

21. So live that thy friend, thy foe, thy neighbor, may also - through patterning his expressions after thee - find the way to that mercy which is manifested in Him, who gave “I stand at the door and knock - by thy biddings I will enter - by thy rejection I will leave - I hold no grudge.”

22. This requires that expression then, in time and space, of that patience of which He spoke, “In patience become ye aware of your souls.”

23. This, then, is the attitude that ye shall assume. Give that as is asked of thee in the interpreting of the problems; no more, no less. But ever be ready, as He, to enter, to help, to give when asked, when sought. For, as He hath given, which is the greater promise from the foundation of the world, “If ye call, I will hear, and answer speedily - though ye be far away, I will hear - I will answer.”

24. That is the attitude that the self shall hold towards those problems where there are disputes, discouragings, disappointments. Yea, they oft arise in the experience of all. But think, O Child, how oft thou must have disappointed thy Maker, when He hath given thee the opportunity and calls, “The day of the Lord is at hand,” to all of those who will hear His voice.

25. Put ye on, then, the whole armor of God, the breastplate of righteousness, the sword of the spirit of truth. KNOW in WHOM ye have believed, as well as in what ye believe. LIVE each day in such a manner as to indicate to everyone ye meet that thou hast an answer for the faith that prompts thee to act in this or that manner.

26. Be not discouraged because the way seems hard at times. Know that He heareth thee. For as He hath given, “If ye will keep my law - ” And what is His law? It is to love the Lord, to eschew evil, - which is the whole duty of man, - love thy neighbor as thyself.

27. This brings into the consciousness that peace which each soul seeks, and brings with same healing, - not only of body but of mind, and keeps the attunement with the spirit of truth.

28. Know, too, that His spirit - God’s spirit, the Father in the Christ, through the Holy Spirit - beareth witness with thy spirit. And though there comes periods when there are the temptations from all manners of sources, HEAR NOT those that deny that He hath come in the flesh. Listen to those that bespeak of the Cross as the way. Harken not in any manner to those who deny the cross or the cup of bitterness in death.

29. These be the channels, these be the ways that the blind leading the blind, both fall into the pit that separateth the soul from that patience, that of Abraham’s bosom. “By faith are ye healed, not of thyself - it is the gift of God.”

30. Let love be abroad, in thy mind, in thy understanding. For the Lord hath looked on thee and loved thee, and hath shown thee the way. Harken to His voice, “Be not afraid - it is I that would speak to thee and thy heart.”

31. Love the Lord. Love His ways. Be patient, be understanding, and He will bring it to pass in thy consciousness of His walking and talking with thee.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I received my reading and was as you guessed anxiously waiting for it. But I must confess that it was a little over my head. I do so miss Mrs. [1100] to talk over such things. Or if I could sit down and chat it over with you maybe I would get more out of it. But as that isn’t possible I will have to read it over and over and maybe I will be able to get something out of it eventually.

Mrs. [1100] wrote me a lovely letter and she was so pleased about it I guess it must be alright. I do so enjoy her letters. I know it is because she seems to like me.

You don’t know how I longed to be in Virginia Beach at the Congress. And to go to your little church and hear you talk. I think that four days that I spent in Virginia Beach last year was the lovliest thing that I have ever had.

I see by the bulletin that Mr. [1861] & Mrs. [2072] were there this year. I hope they had as lovely a time as I did last year. I was so pleased for them that I wrote them a letter and as I don’t know their address I wondered if you would forward their letter on to them.

I want to thank you very much for the light you have brought to me in so many ways. And I thank God and hope that he will open many more doors of joy and knowledge to you.

Dear Miss [1747]

Thank you for yours of the 30th. Would be excellent were it possible for you to have Mrs. [1100] to go over your reading with you. She is so lovely and so understanding a person, but as you read and ponder over it am sure you will get just what it means - and please know if there is any question that you wish to ask about any part of it, am very happy to try and help you with it - if you will just let me know.

And please don’t think it is asking too much or will be any trouble for [you] to have the information - mean something is the real reason for having a reading.

Mailed your letter on to Mrs. [2072] their address is Mr. and Mrs. […], …, Va. They are very lovely. They came to a Congress on their Honeymoon and have been here each year since. They are just fine - think so much of both of them.

We certainly missed not having you with us at Congress and just hope it will be possible for you to be here next time. Mrs. [2441] was with us again. She is just as sweet and lovely as she can be.

It seems that those times that I have been at the Beach, I was so absorbed in finding out as much as possible in the short time that I was there, that I never really made your acquaintance.

You know it is rather difficult for me to express what I wish to say to you in this letter. Maybe it is this. That I know you are there and think of you often I pray to God that you will receive His blessing and that you find great joy and love in the work you are doing.

You will have my whole life’s history in the Book - and even tho it is of me, think Mr. Sugrue has told it in a interesting fashion. Just hope it may enable me to be even of a greater service to more of my fellow man - if it be God’s will.

Dear Miss [1747]

Yours of the 6th arrived just in time for me to get the information for your Mother [2434] in yesterday - do hope the suggestions add to her comfort and help her to soon be much better. Be sure and let us hear how she comes along. Should you see any of the reviews of the Book - There Is A River - in any of your local or state papers be sure and send us the clipping, won’t you?

Do not think it is presuming at all Miss [1747], do not think I can do any thing that any one else can’t do. Just what one should do to undertake it, do not know as could describe it; but try meditating on the questions. As [ask] your conscious mind just how you should do, then get the answer in your meditation. Then ask your self in the deeper sense and see if you don’t get the same answer and possibly you will be told just how to proceed. Pray about it often

• feel sure it will come to you, direct voice, voice within, dream or in some manner so that you will know. Wish you were here for awhile, and we could read and study together about it - possibly might get it.

Remember God uses us where we are, with what abilities we have. We only magnify them by cultivating them in our experiences.

I have found that the Congress of the Research & Enlightenment this year was a most sustaining feeding on the good things of life.

I think that at last we have started on a practical as well as a spiritual program that with it’s use will bring a most healthy growth. In which we as both great & small members of the association amy take part.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I am sending you the money for my reading and as I also wish to become an active member I am sending that also.

By the way, Mrs. [3050] & I talked it over and at the time forgot to mention it again. But who are we indebted too for the taxi to church? I will send you some money for that too, and will you please see that it is delivered to the right party. If there is any over use it for postage and what ever is necessary.

As you read my short note on how I felt about the Congress when we were there I felt that you would have liked to say something to me about it but you changed your mind. Is that so? I felt as if I had not come up to standard and you thought you would say something and then decided against it. I am so SORRY.

I hated to leave so very much. I hope that I might be able to come again soon.

You know I feel as if I am imposing on you to bother you with this letter so I will close with this blessing in mind.

P.S.S. In a Life Reading is it necessary for the party to be at a certain place at a given time.

I would like to get one on my brother and would not be sure he would be at home. To give as a gift.

Could it be given at a time like say someone cancelled their appointment then if you wished (or was not busy) be given at that time. Of course I know you are very much so at this time.

Thank you for yours of the 2nd - nice to number you among the Active list, while we felt that way toward you nice to have you accept the obligation if it be obligation, to be an Active member, you know we here always thought a lot of you, but this year we just all fell in love all over again with you, just hope you had a most pleasant trip and really enjoyed the meetings, hated to see you leave. As for the Taxi - that is on the Assn. and don’t think of it, but as you have sent the money and we took it thank you anyway, but do not want you to think of paying for that, anyway that we can use it to help the work along.

One time my dear lady you were far far wrong certainly was not displeased with what you had said, I only stopped because would say too much if I tried to tell you how very much we all appreciated you and what you have done for the work in your city and community, and how we love you for it, for knew if got started wouldn’t stop until possibly you would feel had said too much, do come back and see us again and that real soon, whenever you have a few days spend them here am sure there is no place they think more of you or appreciate you more.

Do hope Mrs. [3050] is feeling much better - do let me hear from her as didn’t feel too good about her condition some of the time she was here but thought she really looked much better toward the last days here.

Please don’t feel you are imposing one me, just remember it is what you whom I think so much of say to my feeble efforts that keep me alive and going, so write often as you find the time and the inclination.

Will or have forwarded letter to Miss Wynne - her address is Miss Esther Wynne - 2709 La Fayette Blvd, Norfolk Va. She is such a wonderful person, such a lovely body we all love her just lots.

No in a Life reading the date is taken from the Birth date and place of birth, so do not have to know where the body is at the time - but is best for the party who it is for to keep the period in prayer if possible even if it is silent prayer if at work.

The reading for your brother [5321] and nephew are so far off - I hope I will have had the opportunity to discuss this with you, for the first open period is July 6. One is in the morning and the other if the afternoon. […] for the morning, 10:30 to 11:30 and […] in the afternoon, 3:30 to 4:30, EWT. I think your questions are very good. Our only regret is, especially for [5321], that we can’t get this in much sooner, for it might be a great help to him.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I received your letter [6/2/42 See under 281-60 Reports.] and as far as I am able I will cooperate with you. Of course you know I will be working at that time but I will do my best.

Enclosed you will find money order for a mental or spiritual reading.

I am asking this at this time because Mrs. [1100] wrote and said that if nothing happened she would be there. And knowing she is so very much interested in the readings I thought she might like to hear it.

I have been rather disturbed regarding my stand on so many things. I do hope this will clear the field for me. So as I have already warned Mrs. [1100] to expect to be disillusioned about me. I hope you will find some good to say for me.

She has written to me saying she would like to hear it. Also saying that your son Edgar Evans Cayce] will soon be bringing a lovely new daughter to you. Congratulations and pray she will enrich your lives abundantly with her love.

As for question for the Reading I don’t know quite what to ask? So you can think if any that might help me please do.

I am working every day except Saturday & Sunday from 8 to 4:30. So if you can plan accordingly.

I hope I have not presumed on your goodness. By requesting this at this time.

If you cannot do this of course it will be alright. I am giving you rather short notice.

I would love to come myself but I do not think it would be quite right to the company I work for. But if we have one next year I plan to be there.

Dear Miss [1747]

Have yours of the 12th with request for the Mental and Spiritual reading. Am setting this for the afternoon of the 20th at TWO P.M. that you may be at home and quiet. Hope that will be satisfactory for you. That will give Mrs. […] opportunity to be present also. Certainly will miss you not being with us this year - but hope to have you with us next year if the Lord is willing.

Hope we may have a worthwhile meeting this year. While know the Gov. orders will cut down many being able to come this time, hope it will all have passed by this time next year.

Thank you and hope we may be the means of bringing you a message that will help you just as much as every one I know of have said their Mental and Spiritual readings have brought them.

Will miss you - but keep us in mind Friday morning at 10.30 for 15 minutes. Hope we may help each and every one who comes to HIM for help.

Yes - the younger boy was married Saturday afternoon. Left almost at once for Boston where he is taking special course for Army. Very lovely wedding - married a very sweet, beautiful little girl.
