This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of October, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [263], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Now as we find, the disturbing conditions that have been indicated heretofore still show greater disturbance - that need operative measures to relieve the pressure through the pelvic organs, and the position, and some lacerations that have been indicated, and the like.

4. These as we find would be more successfully corrected through operative forces. Any gynecologist that would make the proper application of the conditions necessary would be well; but owing to the delicacy of portions of the conditions as will arise under such disturbance, ONLY a gynecologist - rather than a GENERAL application of such measures - would be much preferable and safer for the body.

5. The general conditions, then, of course, will necessitate following the advice of such an operator in the preparations through those periods.

7. (Q) Who in Norfolk would you suggest to perform the operation? (A) Anyone in that PARTICULAR profession that the body would choose.

8. (Q) Is there any other means of relief than by operative measures? (A) Only a narcotic or heat; and of course these relieve only temporarily - but they are making for greater disturbance upon the mental as well as the general conditions of the system.

9. (Q) Was the blow I had in my stomach around Aug. 17th injurious to me? (A) Not helpful! It rather makes for the exaggerated conditions, and works upon the body BOTH mentally and physically.

10. (Q) What must I do or take in order to have regular bowel movements? (A) Well, all of those as just indicated will necessarily come under the direction of WHOEVER is chosen for such measures, and the preparation for same. CRC’s would be or will be a portion of same, but these will not be taken until the preparations for such.

11. (Q) How may I build up my blood and resistance? (A) This again - all of these in the present should come under the directions of whoever is to handle the conditions - the building up of the body and the preparations for such measures.

R1. 11/23/38 Her friend Miss [357] reported to GD that Mrs. [263] was in the hospital, having had the surgery advised in the rdg.

R2. 12/8/38 She thanked EC for his “kind remembrance”, perhaps a card or flowers, saying:

“I know the only reason that I am living now is the prayers of my friends. I would never be able to tell you what it has awakened in me, going through this. I pray the Father every day to help me find my coming back calling. Sincere thanks and good wishes to you, and may you be with us a long time.” Love, [263]

R3. 1/12/39 She obtained Ck. Physical Rdg. 263-10, advising recuperative measures.

R5. 7/29/57 Mrs. [263] reported that she had not really followed properly any of her physical readings up to the point of 263-8 and 263-9. Her divorce was pending (from her first husband) at that time. Not following the readings, her condition had gotten worse. Although surgery had been recommended in 263-8 on 4/5/38, it was in Oct. 1938 that she became increasingly worse and decided to follow through with having the operation. She wanted to go to Dr. C. J. Andrews, the outstanding gynecologist in Norfolk, Va., but felt that he was too expensive, so tried another doctor of the same profession (she couldn’t now recall his name). This doctor was so rough in making his examination that she went into hysterics, and he told her mother to bring her back again when she was quieter. She then decided to go to Dr. Andrews. There was a preparation of some four weeks for the operation that was to be performed. Mrs. [263] stated that during this period she had reached a point where she didn’t care whether she lived or died. It seemed that she had been sick for so long, but she did feel at ease and had confidence in Dr. Andrews. Dr. Andrews called and told her to come in for the operation the day before Thanksgiving [11/23/38].

A hysterectomy was performed, also a cystoscopic. There was pus in both ovaries, kidneys in bad shape.

She was told later that she passed out on the operating table. Mrs. [263] thought it was of special interest that the rdg. had apparently foreseen the experience of hysterics, in that it told her to go to a doctor of her choice. She had wanted to go to Dr. C. J. Andrews all along. When she asked him about what it would cost her, he told her he knew of her circumstances and that he was not in the profession for making money, and that her charge would be $100 and he would pay half of it.

Mrs. [263] also told about an experience with Miss Florence Edmonds, leader of the A.R.E. Prayer Group. Florence heard about [263] going to the hospital, and received - through meditation - the message to go to the hospital and pray. This had not been requested or expected, since her sister Edith was very ill. However, Florence did go to the hospital, arriving there just as [263] was being taken to the operating room. She sat with [263]‘s mother, Mrs. [303], and prayed. At one point, during the time of the operation, Florence looked up at [263]‘s mother. Later Mrs. [303] asked her why she had looked up, and Florence replied “We almost lost her.” After the operation was over Dr. Andrews came down and told Mrs. [303] that [263] had passed out on the operating table, and he almost lost her. Further he explained that peritonitis had set in and that any further delay in the operation would have meant death for [263].
