This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of August, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [264], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. …, N.C.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [264].
-
Many changes of various natures have taken place in the mental and the physical forces of this body since last we had same.
-
As we find, very good precaution is being taken - and in keeping with that which has been and is the determination of the body, we would follow what has been outlined and that is being practiced much by the body.
-
Not a great deal of change would we make in suggestions.
-
For, the body has well in mind that necessary; and only self may make the mental and physical applications of those things that have been indicated and suggested.
-
Then, we would do those things and follow in the line which has been indicated.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Am I having menopause and what should I do to help conditions? (A) These are natural consequences; hence only need those general precautions that have been and are the common knowledge of all as respecting such periods. In those periods near the changes, keep from colds, of course, and overexposure or overactivity, or those things that tend to produce too great a stress on the body.
There is little or nothing extra to be done, save those regular precautions.
- (Q) What is the condition of my intestines and what should be done, or should I continue taking Castoria? [for colitis, swelling, griping pain] (A) Rather than so much of the Castoria in the present - for this CAN become irritating, of course - we would occasionally change to other eliminants. As we have indicated for other bodies, it is well to alternate these rather than continuing to take just one type of eliminant.
Occasionally, then, we would take the Milk of Bismuth - a teaspoonful, with a few drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin in same - stirred in half a glass of water. This is to cleanse the system, or to absorb the poisons. Then afterward it would be necessary to take small doses of Eno Salts or Sal Hepatica. The Sal Hepatica of course, is partially mineral, while the Eno Salts is practically all vegetable or fruit salts, see?
Every now and then, also, we would use elm water, Yellow Saffron tea or the like.
Thus we will keep down irritation and the too-easy fermentation that produces gas and, of course, pain at such times.
We would take more and more of the citrus fruit juices. These will be better for supplying of the mineral and vegetable salts for the body. This will also aid, of course, in the conditions with the teeth and the activity of the glandular system.
Or, we would occasionally take CALCIOS. This is a source of supply of calcium; but with this the fruit salts - or the mineral salts from the fruits and the like - are necessary. [See 264-56, Par. R11, R12.]
-
(Q) What else should be done for teeth? (A) As just given. Then a massage with salt and soda is preferable for the gums, or the use of Ipsab.
-
(Q) What else should I do to heal my body that I may be a channel of blessings to others? (A) This has just been given. The application of the knowledge must be construed within self. To give to do this today or tomorrow, or the next day, would make the body an automaton and not a free-willed individual! And the entity wouldn’t do it anyway!
-
We are through with this Reading.
Copy to Self ” ” Ass’n file (GD’s note: Calcios is manufactured by the Collidal Health Products Corp., Atten. A. A. Nichoson, Greenvale, Long Island, N.Y. It is a syrupy paste that sells for $2.50 a jar. According to the Readings it is the best way of assimilating free calcium.
Equal quantity salt and soda in jar, dampened, used as tooth paste.
Ask for American Saffron - make as ordinary tea - use twice a week, alternated with pinch of Powdered Elm stirred in glass of water occasionally.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/28/41 She wrote: “Thank you for my rdg. I am happy over its contents. Wish I could see you and talk to you about it…
“Have been taking the Eno Salts, Milk of Bismuth and Pepsin and that colitis condition has improved a lot. Am so thankful…
“Mr. Cayce, all my life I have had an intense desire to help help people (as my reading 264-31 said) who have warring thoughts, warring atoms in their bodies, and warring conditions in their affairs. And now I know that I can be of so much more help to them when I overcome just that in my own life. I KNOW that is what I want to do, but I must just want to get well worse. If you believe that, please tell me how to be more unselfish. It is so much easier for me to be unselfish when I can see you even occasionally. I did not know it was possible for one to be humble and at the same time so big as you are. After you talk to me, regardless of the subject, I feel that there is no inharmony, and that every envy, hate or criticism and the like are too petty. For a while they sink into oblivion, and after I experience all of that I express MY views or opinion and criticize people. Why should I ever criticize anyone when I have failed so often and for so long?
“Thank God the rdg. said I had the right determination, so I am determined to serve with such understanding as I have, and what I have done for Mother and Father […inlaws on my visit] this time has not pulled me down, but it has helped me. And I have done a little of everything in addition to helping to cheer them; I have helped cook, and have shrubs trimmed down, and the yards cleaned. I go and buy groceries and bring them home. And I have been to luncheon and to dinner with friends besides. And I am stronger than when I came.
“[853] will come tomorrow night and will be here until Monday afternoon, and I am going back with him…
“Mother and Father […] are so much happier and more hopeful. They have a good cook…
“Hope Mrs. Cayce is much better. I was so hurt over her losing her eye, and how she worries over Edgar Evans. Am so glad she has you, with your understanding.
“Thank you for everything.”
R2. 9/2/41 EC’s letter: “The answer has to come to the individual. We can tell the ways that an understanding has come to ourselves, but that does not necessarily mean the same will click with someone else. We are so individual…we only know what we have experienced ourselves. We have a vague idea; as Paul says ‘we see through a glass darkly,’ we know a thing is, we know it can be done, but doing it is a personal application and is individual…
“Thank you, Mrs. [264]. I hope I can constantly be an inspiration for you to try, and I’m sure you will measure up. Know that it is the try that is counted to one for righteousness. Faith, hope and love will work, but each of us has to work at it.
“Yes, as we help others we help ourselves the more. And as we become more and more selfless, the more we realize just that.
“We have had a busy week-end, but summer is over - wonder where it has gone - and we must begin planning the fall and winter programs now.”
R3. 9/23/41 She wrote: “I am even stronger than when I was at VB, and I am so happy to have had that rdg. That colitis condition is much better for the past few days. It took weeks to reduce that swelling. And I am still holding to the faith with the determination to let God’s will be done in me. I fail often, but it seems that I forget. I have just been so selfish and self-willed so long. Anyway, I am finding it easier to be more understanding, more tolerant and more patient as the weeks go by.”
R4. 11/25/41 She requested Ck. Physical 851-4 for her mother.
R5. 6/29/42 Mrs. [264] wrote: “Mr. Cayce, I did not keep that meditation on Friday as I had expected to [during the time of EC’s rdg.] I went to sleep while thinking about it and slept three hours. The first sound sleep I had had in about three weeks, as I had had entirely too much elimination and was quite weak and had so little coordination throughout my body that I had not been able to sleep night or day, and was taking Ventriculin. When I walked my veins felt like they would burst. And after that day they haven’t been weak either, [See Par. R12 below.] and now I want to tell you the good that came to [853].” [See Reports of Reading 853-11.]
R6. 11/13/42 She wrote: “You know for so long I’ve been waiting to get well enough to do something worth while. I am not waiting any longer. I am taking a course in nutrition at the Red Cross, and I am going to use it wherever I am needed. I clear the apt., get our meals, buy the groceries and bring them home, and am stronger than I have been in ten years. My feet have stopped hurting. Am quite thin, as I weigh 15# less than I did when at Va. Beach. I’ll get it back, and it is heavenly not to feel weak all the time. When [853] is here I get up at seven o’clock and fix our breakfast. I am doing all that seems necessary for me to do at the moment, and as other needs arise, I’ll DO them, while saying ‘Lord, lead Thou the way.’ [See Par. R12 below.]
“Many times you must have said for me, ‘O Jerusalem Jerusalem…’ [Mat. 23:37]
“Mr. Cayce, just knowing you always seems to bring out the best in people. Even though we may not be conscious of it at times, that seeking for something higher and better is always with us. It does something to us that keeps us from being satisfied with our own way of thinking or being. After having had even a glimpse of the light you are holding out by living it, we are not satisfied to go back.”
R7. 11/29/42 She wrote: “I wrote my paper for the course at the Red Cross, and many, including the teacher, commented most favorably on it.”
R8. 12/27/42 She wrote: “Am enclosing P.O. M/O for $10 and am asking for a Ck. Physical Rdg. at the first opportunity. Am also enclosing some questions. Any change or addition you may make will be appreciated. Will also appreciate it for Mrs. Cayce to ask such questions as may be necessary depending upon what is given.
“The housework, etc., may be too much for me during the menopause change. However, with that particular condition, I am getting on fine. No extra loss of blood.
“For about two months that growth has been enlarged, and is crowding my stomach and my heart. My intestines have been very much swollen with gas or colitis.
“Well, the first cold day I walked about seven blocks and back. I did not realize it was so cold. Coming back, my heart began to see-saw, and I finally went in the first place I could - a hotel - and got warm, and came home, and took some ammonia. I’ve tried to be more careful since. However, I still feel the need of oxygen, or it may be from my heart and stomach being crowded by the growth…
“Mr. Cayce, if the rdg. does not answer that [my message in 262-121, Par. 23-A] please explain it to me. The Lord certainly leads the way for me many times every day, but I don’t believe it is right or necessary for me to just use Him to ‘patch me up’ so I can half-way serve Him. I’ve been too selfish and self-willed and spent too much time on myself already.
“I especially want to aid in a Bureau for helping locate the wives and families of enlisted men. I could do my housework and that too, and with the intuition which God has given me, I know I could really be helpful there.”
R9. 1/2/43 She obtained Ck. Physical 264-57. See subsequent Reports.
R10. 3/17/43 She wrote [See also previous ltrs. 6/29/42 & 11/13/42]:
“I improved while with Mother and sister [678], quite a lot, and I gained about ten pounds, the first I had gained after losing nearly fifteen pounds from taking that treatment from Dr. Lulu Irene Waters [D.O] last July. She nearly killed me. I don’t think I could have stood another treatment from her. However, I am SO MUCH better now.” [See subsequent Ck. Physical reading.]
R11. 2/25/47 She wrote: “The food in restaurants…gave me quite a bad case of colitis, and I have been too weak to even go down town. Have been following treatments suggested in one of my rdgs. for it, and am some better.”
R12. 3/27/50 Reply to Questionnaire: “I followed the advice in 264-56, Par. 10-A for colitis, swelling and griping pains, and got a great deal of relief in about a week. It took about six weeks to entirely reduce the pain and swelling.
“Occasionally when eating in a hotel or restaurant, something will irritate my intestines, causing pain. I follow the above for two or three days, and drink an extra amount of orange juice (1 and 1/2 glass per day) and the condition clears up.
“Have taken small doses of Eno Salts for several years, whenever needing a laxative. It is effective without upsetting my digestion.”
