GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2642]; this we have had before.
-
There are changes in the physical forces of the body, yet these are rather of the erratic nature.
-
As we find, there is not sufficient effort on the part of the body in its mental attitude towards suggestions and applications for corrective measures, for these to do, or for there to be done, a great deal of good. Unless there is a more consistent and persistent effort on the part of the body in its mental attitude towards conditions physically, towards the making of material and mental applications for corrective forces, little effort needs be made on the part of others.
-
There should be the adoption by the body, mentally, of that it oft professes to itself, towards its desire in the material way of accomplishing things. Know in self, and in applying may the body know more completely, that the mind is the builder.
-
Determine within self that you will set routines of thinking, of application, of the mental and spiritual attributes of the body. Do not give way to appetites, either in that direction of condemnation of or blaming of others for circumstance or conditions.
-
As we have outlined, with this attitude may there be material gains made. Without the DIRECTING of self and the attitudes, all of the medicine, all of the rubbing or of corrections in any manner, will have little permanent effect.
-
Yet the adjustments and massage will aid the body in its mental AND spiritual attitude, if it chooses to do such.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Are there some special foods or preparations which would help my assimilation, and help me gain strength and energy? (A) Using of the energy and strength that is had in a constructive manner, mentally AND spiritually, will aid in gaining more. There is very good digestion, save when there is overself indulgence, either in eating or the abuse in one manner or another.
-
(Q) Is there something I can do to foster my faith and to regain my self-confidence and spontaneity and poise? (A) As we have outlined, study the Book - and those special passages indicated apply to self, and DO NOT condemn others.
-
(Q) Why do the massages sometimes seem to make me very restless and nervously unstrung, and I get frightened for fear - (A) (Interrupting) Because you’ve made up your mind that’s what it’s going to do!
Do as has been indicated, if there would be better conditions. But commence within self and self’s own mind, self’s own determination, and not by condemning or plaguing others.
- We are through for the present.

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I want to apologize for not writing before this to thank you for your compassion in reading for me last November. My life has been rather hectic and so I hope you will forgive me. I am very humbly grateful to you for your kindness, and I profoundly hope I can repay you before long and do some helpful work in the world myself, also.
I have had some massaging by Dr. Massaia [Messea], but I don’t feel that he does it anything like the way Mrs. Townsend did and it does not seem to be anywhere nearly as effective and beneficial. I am hoping to find someone who understands more about it to come to the house, here, and massage me here, as my back and legs seem pretty weak and it is hard for me to get around very much.
I long to get well and take my place in the world.
I know I have made some mistakes in life, but I don’t feel that my condition is entirely my fault. My poor old mother longs to see me well again.
Will you please have mercy on me once more and read for me again. I feel that God means for me to get well even though I’ve been through so much.
I should like to know, especially, whether you can help me to find the right person here in Lakeland to massage me properly, and also, if there is any other treatment which would help out now.
I long to get well, and hope to repay you many times over. I am deeply grateful to you for all your compassion. Will you please read for me again as soon as convenient and see if we can get some light on these two points that I have mentioned? I know God will bless you for your kindness. I am under quite a strain, as I ought to be earning some money to support my mother. My aunt has been helping her and me. I shall be anxiously waiting to hear from you as I feel weak and tired most all of the time.
God bless you and yours, Mr. Cayce; I long for spiritual development and understanding.
Please have mercy on me and my mother and read for me once again. These is no use of communicating with my sister about this matter as she fails to realize the seriousness of my condition and has not made any effort to cooperate with me on this matter for some time past.
Hoping, for my mother’s sake and in our Lord’s name you will have compassion on me once more, I remain
Very humbly and gratefully yours, [2642]
R2. 5/13/43 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2642]:
Dear Mr. [2642]
Have yours of the 10th - have often wondered what had become of you, and how you were getting along. Would be very glad to try and help, Mr. [2642], but since the book - There Is A River - was published have been so over run with requests that am promised each day until nearly September - but if you wish to have a day set apart for you at the first opportunity will be glad to do so. But know you will be taking the time from some one else that might get good out of it by doing what is suggested for them, and unless you are sure that you will do just what is suggested - would it be fair to take the time again?
Do hope you have gotten some help from the feeble efforts we have made - if not, no use trying further. If you have, will be glad to do what we can, when we can. So let me hear from you and will give you a period, but as said it will have to be several months off.
With every good wish and HIS Blessings with you,
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear, Blessed Mr. Cayce:
I have been intending to write and thank you for your very kind letter of May 13th, ever since I received it, but I didn’t get around to it partly as you seemed so busy at that time, and I have had a very hard struggle trying to keep our home going with my old aunt and Mother.
I believe I wrote you in my last letter that Dr. Massaia, [Messea] gave me some massages and I tried taking some by myself, also. I can’t seem to get any peanut oil now except what has vitamin D added, and I wonder whether this would be satisfactory.
Since last hearing from you I tried taking a few herbs and tonics, and some of them seemed to help for a while, but then I seem to feel very much “let down”, and at present I feel pretty weak and unsteady on my feet, and my head has a dull ache, and I have very poor appetite.
My condition is such, now, that I feel terribly restless and worried. I still feel that I’ll get well somehow, but you are the only one I have any confidence in.
I AM SO ANXIOUS TO GET WELL FOR MY OLD MOTHER’S SAKE, AND SO I CAN DO SOME GOOD IN THE WORLD MY SELF.
My aunt expects to collect a small mortgage soon, and perhaps she will be willing to help me out a little for treatments if it is not too much, and I know Dr. Massaia will do whatever he can to help me, but I hope some treatment will help me, that won’t be very expensive.
Will you please make another reading for me and see if there isn’t something more that can be done now? If you feel I should still have massages, can you help me find someone who could come to our house here to treat me?
I have struggled a long time to get well, and I feel that I am quite some better on the whole, and if I can just get a little added boost I believe I’ll be all right.
I know I was very foolish not to write you sooner, but you seemed so busy at that time.
I hope I can get into really normal health, because I have never had real normal health, because I had a bad fall at the age of seven.
I consider you to be one of the most remarkable and finest people I have ever heard of.
I do hope you can manage to read for me soon again, so that I can get “over the top” in my struggle for normal health.
May God bless you and all your folks! I shall try to repay you many times over. I wonder if I ever told you I went to Washington in 1940 to try to get the Navy men to build some large amphibian ships with big guns. My ideas were ridiculed then, but within six months they were buying amphibian tanks. If they had built the ships I urged them to, they would have saved thousands of lives. My sisters have ceased to cooperate with me on your instructions so I don’t write them about it.
I long to be thoroughly well again and believe that if you can read for me soon, again I can really get on my feet.
Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain
Anxiously and gratefully, [2642]
P.S. The ends of some of my fingers feel numb much of the time. I hope this is not very serious.
R4. 12/4/43 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2646]:
Dear [2642]:
I have yours of the 28th, and note what you have to say about yourself and conditions in general. We are so very very far in advance with appointments, I don’t know whether you would want to wait so long or not. I thought I had better write and ask about it, for it would be possibly sometime next fall, for we are about twelve months in advance.
Since the publication of the book and several articles in magazines, requests have come in by the thousands. Let me know your wishes in the matter.
Hoping for the best, for you I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/vw]
