Hebrew) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of September, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [2667], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. David E. Kahn.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Hugh Lynn Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Chicago, Ill.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [2667] who is in his office at …, Chicago, Ill., and who seeks counsel, advice and guidance as to his mental and material affairs and associations. You will answer the questions which he has submitted regarding these.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [2667] - this we have had before.
-
Many are the changes that have come to the body physically and mentally, and in the associations, since last we had the body here.
-
Well might be said respecting this body, “We told you so!”
-
The seeking through these channels in the present, then, must be fraught with an attitude of dependence or else wholly a disregard of such information.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Shall I continue with my present business connections? (A) This should and would depend, as we find, upon the abilities of the body to better the connections in directions that would be more in line with that which had followed the body in those periods or days when it may be said that material success was with the body, and the social and mental surroundings were more in accord with the ideas and ideals the body. To be sure, we would not forego nor be relieved of the present connections unless better associations may be had with the former association of the body, or with the … people that the body represented in this territory so well for so long. In making the approach for such a connection, do not hold self wholly in the attitude that it must be in this immediate vicinity or none at all. While the greater portion of the territory is supplied through these offices, yet there are other fields that may be considered as fertile fields for the carrying on of these operations also, that would facilitate the handling of the products of the company in a very satisfactory way or manner; as Atlanta, Dallas, Denver or Frisco, or Los Angeles. Making the approach through those same channels in which the body held the connections in the past, as we find, would be the better approach for such; holding to the associations in the present until negotiations had reached the conclusion, or to such conclusions, as to warrant the change to be made public, or notifying the connections of the change in associations.
-
(Q) When should I attempt this? (A) Immediately.
-
(Q) What recommendations will improve my present business connections and financial condition? (A) Under many considerations, now, may such be considered. Considering from the standpoint of the present associations, also from the standpoint of the change in connections or associations, we would find that if the policies were put more into effective and effectual activity that were so apparent in the activities of the body some four to five years ago, these would bring about betterment in the material sense; betterment also soon in the financial associations and connections.
In reference to those attempts to hold the equity in the properties that have become endangered by the activities, in attempting to launch out for self in manners that brought about much of the contentions that have arisen in many circles in the last few years, these might be reduced to the minimum of the expenditures that may be set aside in each month, or each given period for the reduction of this, and - as we find - be handled in a satisfactory manner. This may be done through the associations in the loan companies or the re-financing corporations.
-
(Q) Would I benefit by making a change from the textile lines to the metal lines? (A) We do not find it so. This must be determined within self, however; for if the body will review the associations of self that have been builded in the experience of the body, it would be seen that such would be almost like comparing an ice worker to a steam fitter.
-
(Q) How soon will conditions change for the better for me? (A) As soon as he sets about to do something to make them change!
-
(Q) Why have I been compelled to go through such misfortune in the past three years? (A) This, as we find, will entail much of that which the body has preached and practiced. As should be known, and as has oft been given by the body, we live, we move, we have our being in Him, the Giver of all good and perfect gifts. That which is in the material world is as lent us of the Lord. When we are in His way and are then in straits, we know sin lieth at the door. “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers” may well be called that period, that set about, the initiation of the body mentally, as it were, into the ministry of that which has been the tenets (if not the practice) of the entity for so long.
Then know that if self is kept in the right way He WILL provide. “The silver and the gold is mine, saith the Lord. He that abideth in me shall not want, neither shall there come that upon him that I will not provide with same the way of escape.”
Turn ye closer to that ye have professed, and practiced (in a manner), and ye shall see in yourself, in your associations, the GLORIFYING of that thou hast held as the ideal - and hast fallen somewhat short in the applications of same.
- We are through.

R1. 9/22/32 EC’s letter to [2667]:
My dear Mr. [2667]
We are enclosing a copy of the information that was gotten. I do not think I should attempt to make any comment on this at the present time; however, I hope that you will see enough in the reading to be of interest. Should you desire that it be followed up in any way, know that I will be only too glad to undertake it. You know, I have always thought a very great deal of you and your family, Mr. [2667], ever since I met you. You have a great deal that seems to me very much worth while above the ordinary individuals I have contacted. That such should bring to you at this time hard things to understand and to cope with seems very bad. Possibly these are the necessary things for the proper balancing of values in the physical, mental and spiritual world.
Asking to be remembered very kindly to the family, and with kindest personal regards and good wishes, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R2. 9/22/32 EC’s letter to DEK: “Enclosed you will find a copy of Mr. [2667]‘s reading. I am sure it will be worthwhile for you to analyze this, not only for the advice you may be able to give him (as I am sure he is going to depend on you a great deal), but that you may understand much of the information that has been and will be given to you from time to time…”
R3. 2/14/33 EC’s letter to [2667]:
Mr. [2667] Chicago, Ill.
My dear Mr. [2667]
I am in hopes this finds you well. I have been expecting to see you all long before this, but the general conditions throughout the country have precluded the possibility of our expending anything in the direction of trying to even pass our work along save through our friends whom we have tried to help.
I am wondering just how things are with you all. We would certainly like very much to hear from you and to know if you were able to get anything out of the information as was given you some little time ago. I have always felt, Mr. [2667] that there were possibly more reasons why you should be able to derive real benefits from the information than of most anyone that I have ever read for.
I understand - while you did not heed a warning that was given you some years ago owing to your confidence and faith in someone’s personality which turned to a real destructive influence in your experience - from your study, from your training, from the natural spiritual insight that you have and maintain, unless I am far afield as to what is the source of this you should be able to derive a great deal of good from it all.
I assure you that I would be very glad to hear from you, and any time that you can in the least little way help us along, it will certainly be very much appreciated. Just a little, even though it is only a few pennies here and there, goes a long way in helping the work to be distributed to someone else.
With all good wishes, and kindest personal regards and love to every one of the family, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

… & Company Selling Agents Upholstery and Drapery Fabrics Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virg.
My dear Mr. Cayce:
I have your letter of February 14th and was glad to hear from you. Mrs. [4376] at the present is with my daughter [2497] in Seattle, keeping close to her as she was recently operated on and in the hospital for six weeks. She is at home now and I understand from a recent letter that [2497] is doing very nicely, but slowly. My son-in-law sent for Mrs. [4376] as [2497] would not go to the hospital unless her mother was with her. So I am batching again - nothing new with me, as I’m about used to it now. Mr. Cayce, I followed your reading which you sent me last, and did so religiously, but it did not materialize as I had expected. I don’t know why I should go through so much as I am, even at the present. My present firm connections does not mean much. Many and many months have passed within the past three years or so that I have not had enough earned to keep my family fed, not mentioning clothes or other things - there have been many days that we had no food in our house. I could tell you things Mr. Cayce that are happening even right now, that is unbelievable.
Still, I am hanging on, believing that things will right itself with all who trust in God and do right. I am still in hopes that I will be able someday to do something for your institution, as I wish to see it a big success. I tried to locate the horoscope reading [2667-5] you sent me sometime ago. I looked through all my files and I cannot locate it. Have you a copy of it in your files? And if so, will you have a copy sent on to me here, as I want to show it to a friend of mine, and I believe he will write you for his Horoscope. By the way send him a blank for membership and I believe he will join. His name is [806], …, Chicago, Ill.
With kindest regards from my family to you and yours and with my sincere wishes for your success.
Very gratefully yours, [2667]
[GD’s note: Mr. [806] did much later obtain a Physical Reading.]
R5. 2/28/33 EC’s letter to [2667]:
My dear Mr. [2667]
I was indeed very glad to have your letter of the 20th, but sorry that […] has been so ill. Before this I trust she has recovered sufficiently to be home from the hospital, and that conditions will soon be satisfactory. It has been something of a hardship to you, I am sure, to have the family so broken up, but I know […] feels it necessary to have her mother with her during such trying times. I understand she has two children now. Is that right?
Mr. [2667] I am sorry that conditions have been so very strenuous with you. As I have said before, it certainly does make us wonder just why such things arise in our experience, when we have tried to live a life rather of sacrifice for others than for ourselves, as I feel you have.
I am quite a bit interested to know just how or why following the reading sent to you did not materialize as might have been expected from that given. Many times I have felt that you have possibly not given the readings an opportunity to show what value they might be in your experience. Above all things, I do not want to appear as one trying to induce you to conform or subscribe to something of this nature, or obtaining information through these sources, unless you feel you would of yourself desire to give the readings an opportunity to explain themselves, or to follow things out more closely. From what you have said several times, I understand that you feel it somewhat of an imposition to ask for readings without contributing toward the upkeep of the work. But I am of the opinion, Mr. [2667] that you are doing yourself and the readings (if they are worth anything at all) more harm by not following them up than in holding back for fear that it would be something of an imposition to ask for further advice or counsel. From the experience that thousands of others have had, I am sure that if you would make out a list of questions YOURSELF, pray over them very earnestly (as I’m sure you do over most everything you go into), and then let us undertake a reading for you, it might be of a great deal of service. But, as to whether you want to do this or not, is up to you. Please know I’m not trying to induce you to do it, but I am desirous of being of a real service if possible. For, ever since I have known you, I have felt there were great possibilities and much to be gained by you in adhering closely to many of the tenets you have set as your guides. If I didn’t believe that much of the information through readings comes from such sources that are really of Creative natures, I certainly wouldn’t be writing you in any such way as this. Our experience has taught us that we are all His children. He will not allow us to suffer, or to be tempted, beyond that we are able to bear, and He has a purpose in bringing all these experiences into our lives; if we falter not they will be for our good. I’m sure this applies to our lives today as well as in the hereafter.
Please let me hear form you again, and if it is possible for me to be of service I assure you it would be a pleasure for me to try, if for no other reason than the honor, respect and appreciation I feel for you and yours.
Give my regards to the rest of the family, and if you feel it in your heart to let us try again, make up your questions yourself, and we will set another appointment to see if we cannot be of some help.
With all good wishes, I am
Sincerely,
ASS’N FOR RESEARCH & ENLIGHTENMENT, INC. EC:GD
R6. 3/21/33 Mildren Davis’ letter to [2667]:
Mr. [2667] Chicago, Ill.
My dear Mr. [2667]
Please pardon our delay in sending you a copy of your Horoscope reading, or “Life reading” as they are now called. A copy of this is inclosed, together with a copy of our data which has been compiled from a study of the Life Readings. Trust this will enable you to better understand your own Life Reading and to apply it more directly to your everyday life.
We wrote Mr. [806] some time ago inclosing some data and an application blank, but as yet have not heard from him. Hope you will carry out your idea of showing him your Life Reading and talking it over with him, arousing his interest to the extent that he will desire one for himself. We have found that his type of reading has been invaluable to many in finding themselves and their place in life. It has been found especially helpful and beneficial in understanding and helping children in their development.
Mr. [2667], anything you can do in helping us to get an appointment or a new member at this time will certainly be greatly appreciated. Because of the general conditions over the country, our appointments have been much slower in coming in, and we need some extra appointments to make up the deficit.
Let us hear from you as to your progress, physically, mentally and spiritually. Rest assured that we are at all times ready and willing to aid whenever possible.
With kindest regards and best wishes, I am
Sincerely, Mildred Mary Davis, Secretary
P.S. Trust you have been enjoying the Association Bulletin. Would appreciate constructive criticism.
R7. 5/5/34 EC’s letter to [2667]:
My dear Mr. [2667]
It’s been a long time since we heard from you. I wonder about you quite often, and have been hoping that we might have the opportunity to be in Chicago again and renew our acquaintance. I know you are not one inclined to keep up much of a correspondence just for friendship sake, but we would appreciate hearing from you, and knowing just how you are getting along. I’ve also thought a great deal about every one of the family, and would certainly like to keep in touch with all of you.
I hope you have looked at the Bulletin each month that we’ve been sending you. The last Bulletin carried a list of the Active Members, among whom you are numbered. We hope you have enough interest to say who you would like to see become Trustees for the coming three years. Of course, if we leave the forming and carrying out of the policies to just anybody, it won’t amount to much. I know you know what this means, from your own experiences. While you may not know a great many on the list, we would like for you to signify your suggestions by checking off about ten names - or even twenty-five if you wish - and sending back right away. I am trusting that you still consider yourself a part of this organization. May we have a line from you?
Please give my kindest regards to Mrs. [2667] and to the children. Know that if we can ever be of a service, we are only too glad to try.
Trusting this finds you feeling well, and that we may hear from you right away, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
