This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Tutwiler Hotel, Birmingham, Alabama, this 24th day of October, 1922.
[Edgar Cayce; Frank E. Mohr, Conductor; Stallings, Brazelton & Hale, Court Reporters, Steno.]
Time of Reading Unknown. …, Ala.
- FEM: Now, Mr. Cayce, you are going to sleep.
Now, Mr. Cayce, you are asleep, and all of the organs of your body will function properly. You will hear me, and answer all of my questions slowly and carefully.
You have before you this afternoon the body of [2675] present in this room. Now, Mr. Cayce, I want you to tell me the physical and mental ailments that you find within this body that you have before you; and, if an operation is necessary, tell me; and, if not, tell me what will relieve the condition in this body which you have before you - [2675] present in this room.
- EC: Yes; we have the body here. Now, this is a very good body; yet we find there are some abnormal conditions through the physical. They have to do with the functioning of organs rather than organic conditions producing the troubles within the physical body. Now these are the conditions as we find in this body, [2675] you are speaking of, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- Through the circulation of the blood forces within the system, we find the blood is lacking in all of its rebuilding elements within, and especially that in the hemoglobin that partakes of the carboniferous gases as produced in the body; so that we leave in the system some of those poisons that have gradually settled themselves about the hepatic circulation until we have a body in an excellent condition and position to become very much enematized, [anemiatized?] so that we would have a chronic condition existing in the functioning of the stomach and the duodenum and the liver, for with the condition existing in the hepatics, and the inactivity as shown in all of the lobes of the liver itself, we find this apparent in this body, for, as we find, the liver is the largest functioning [organ] in the body, and controls the quality of the blood almost as much as any other organ in the body, and also supplies that to the digestive tract which would give in the new blood the potential factor needed to make of it either a rebuilding or a destructive force within the system, as in this body here we find the inactivity of the liver produces back to the stomach those conditions that form or go to make up to the nervous system the nerve energy lacking in the body to give the vital force to the muscular activity throughout the system. So at present we have a reflex condition being produced through the blood supply, and the inactivity of the liver itself producing to the pneumogastric those incentives that give expression in other portions of the nerve centers of ganglion that express themselves to the body in the pain or disease as is felt to the body from time to time. The reflex through the nerve forces also produces an over supply of blood to center about certain organs as it is produced through the secondary cardiac plexus, the condition as existing in the lung force itself. Also reflexly from there to the second cervical plexus, affecting those functioning portions of the bronchials and of the epiglottis, and producing the condition we have through the lungs and that part of the body, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- This being at present reflexed to the nervous system, and being directly at the present time directed toward the functioning of the pneumogastric nerve trunk rather that to cerebro-spinal or to sympathetic; yet sympathetic in their reaction carry to the body a condition where that we find the body finds itself, when it attempts to rest through sleep in the natural means, does not awake with the same vital force and power it has bound itself heretofore, see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- At present this is carried or expressed or shown through the action of the sympathetic nervous system, which is the brain, or the muscular forces throughout the body, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- A slight temperature at times is shown in the body through the condition in the stomach, and that to the lung forces, the lack of blood, as it were, getting away fast enough or being carried through the auricles of the heart sufficiently clarified to give the proper force throughout the body, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
-
The dizziness that appears to the body, or the peculiar sensation of pains to the head that comes at times, especially just after waking, and before the body becomes or gains its normal equilibrium from rising, comes from the same source, you see? FEM: Yes.
-
The action of the sympathetic with the pneumogastric; yet the cerebro-spinal is not affected in that state as we would call the body an over-nervous body at present. Only sharp decisive action reaches the cerebro-spinal force in the nerve shock at present, you see?
FEM: Yes.
- Yet the body is in a condition to receive, or to become, as we have given, a neurotic condition setting in would produce these conditions throughout the body, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- The functioning of the organs themselves throughout the system, save in as we have expressed, and the action of the pulmonary, the liver, and in the stomach themselves are very good. Those as we find through the action of the kidneys themselves and through the genitory organs are only reflex forces as appear from the condition existing through the hepatics, that producing or carrying the force through to be relieved, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- So when force was relieved, or when the condition was set in adjustment of the whole vital force, we would find that to give the proper incentive to the whole system, we would take this into the system:
Pododphyllin…10 grains, Leptandrin…3 grains, Sanguinaria…3 grains, Dover’s Powder…3 grains.
This would be put, after well mixed, into 3-grain capsules, you see? One would be taken each evening for three days. Then skip two days, then begin again, you see?
FEM: Yes, sir.
- Until all are absorbed or taken into the system. Then we would take a regular exercise for this body to give or to keep the correct adjustments for all of the muscular forces of the spinal column, of the arms, and especially the head, neck and shoulders, see?
FEM: Yes.
- Those would be circular motions forward and back of the head and neck, and then of the waistline all the same; then a stooping or sitting up exercise after that. Have the body, after the exercise, rubbed down well with cold water, especially along the spine, see?
FEM: Yes.
-
Then a rough towel or a brush towel rubbed along the end of the spine, or up and down the spine until the blood is brought to the centers or to the segments all along the spine. Keep this up for three to four months. We will find the body will gain in weight and in its resistive force, and in its ability to meet the needs of the physical forces and of the spiritual forces also. Do that.
-
(Q) Mr. Cayce, the one course of medicine that you have recommended, would that be all that would be necessary at this time? (A) [Repeating question] Mr. Cayce, the one course of medicine that you have recommended, would that be all that would be necessary at this time? If we had needed others, we would have given it.
-
(Q) Mr. Cayce, the body wants to know whether the examination that he is now having made will reveal anything regarding his trouble? (A) [Repeating question] Mr. Cayce, the body wants to know whether the examination that he is now having made will reveal anything regarding his trouble? The conditions as we have outlined and are giving here will show from the blood force or the blood itself; and the condition will show from the lung force through the spittle when it is tested, and through the urine forces when it is tested. Follow this as given if we would bring this body to the normal forces. We are through.
-
Now, Mr. Cayce, you will forget all about this reading that you have given. You are feeling find and feeling all right. Your body is functioning properly, and we want you to wake up in just two minutes feeling fine and all right.

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Tutwiler Hotel, Birmingham, Ala.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Subsequent to my visit to you on Oct. 24, I took a trip, and did not find it feasible to take the exercises and baths until my return. I did take the medicine however. Nearly two of the “three or four months”, mentioned in the reading have passed, and so far, the results are very gratifying.
I hope to get around to see [you] in a few days. In the meantime, if you should leave the city, kindly send me your address that I may communicate with you further.
Sincerely yours, [2675]
R2. 7/26/25 [2675]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce 322 Grafton Ave., Dayton, Ohio
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Since I saw you at Birmingham I have been transferred to Washington, D.C., where I have been employed as a clerk in the Census Bureau; but I am back here now in the Internal Revenue Dept. I have thought about you and about your work more than once. I wondered where you were until I received the inclosed cards, misforwarded to me at the wrong address.
You will recall from your record - if you kept one - in that you gave me a reading at Birmingham during the summer of 1923; that my “appendicitis” turned to a case of chronic biliousness in the disclosure of that reading; that I was told to take special exercises, cold baths, and a certain powerful vegetable liver tonic. This I did. The first course gave very satisfactory results. Within a month or so, I found it necessary to repeat the course. This time I got less satisfactory results. I have repeated it several times since with no appreciable results. The last course, so far from doing good, reacted badly, working much mischief to my stomach - I am on a liquid diet at present and, yet, I have, and have had each time I have taken the medicine, precisely the same symptoms that I had at the time the reading was given. In repeating course, I experimented with various size doses but no improvement in results. I am at a loss to know:
Why I do not get the same satisfactory results that I got from the first course and
Why should one of my age - twenty-five - temperament, habits etc. be pestered to such an alarming extent with liver complaint.
There is a first cause of my condition, whether we comprehend it or not. I wish that I could answer especially that last question. Does it exist in the physical or in the mental? - in my case. And what is the remedy? - the permanent remedy wherein lies the solution to my problem of health. I should like to have your counsel. I should like to have another reading if you think well of it.
It is a vicious circle, prescribed by physical ailments feeding mental, and mental ailments, in turn, feeding the physical. God bless any man every where, whatever his methods or his profession, who can cut that circle in half and let the ills of mind and body die a natural death!
I know nothing of course about your methods or the sources of your power; but I was deeply impressed by the disclosures of your reading for me. I should like to hear further about you and about the work your you are doing.
Sincerely yours, [2675]
P.O. Bx. … Birmingham, Ala.
P.S. If you can give me another reading, I should like to have another reading, I should like to have it as soon as possible; I expect to leave in a few days on a vacation trip. During this trip I will be near one of the larger sanitarium of the country. I had in mind a visit there for an examination. A reading might disclose: whether such is worthwhile; or it might give me information valuable there.
