GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for the further improvement of same. You will also answer the questions regarding same that I will ask you.
-
EC: Yes - Now, we find there are some changes in the physical conditions of this body from that as we have had here before. Some are bettered. Some show the state of exaggeration, and the overflow from the poor assimilations in the system, and the non-eliminations. These give the poisons off in the system that causes the greater distress in the body.
-
In that that the body has lacked in carrying out the suggestions as were given, the greater trouble lies in the amount and character of food as has been taken, and the irregularity of same. Also in the enemas, there has not been used that antiseptic as is necessary to prevent the reinfection from the mucus coating of intestine itself. This, we see, is especially necessary and beneficial under such existent conditions.
-
Then, for the improvement at the present time, and under the conditions which are causing the distress, we would, through the osteopathic manipulation - for this, we find, is more necessary than the plain adjustments of the subluxations, or of those conditions along the cerebro-spinal system - the message and muscular movements of the osteopath are necessary in the conditions as exist, for this goes more direct to those of tissue and of nerve centers than simple the correcting of cervical, dorsal, or any of the vertebrae in the system.
-
In the enema use that of the Glyco-Thymoline, using the tablespoonful to the gallon and half of water. Use this consistently and persistently, see?
-
Well, also, that those properties as will be found in either of these conditions be taken in the system. Either that as would be prepared from Ragweed and water - two parts of the water to one part of the ragweed, reduced to equal quantity - that is, have ten ounces of water, five ounces of ragweed, see? reducing then to the five ounces, see? Strain off, add sugar two ounces, alcohol sufficient to preserve same, which would be two ounces to the five ounces. The dose would be then half a teaspoonful.
-
Or that of the Petrolagar, using that of the alkaline, which would be two tablespoonful daily - one morning and one evening, see?
-
Either of these will act as the intestinal antiseptic, and aid in the digestion, and producing a stimulation better in the system. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the cause of the neuralgia pains in the region of the eyes from which the body suffers at present? (A) That of the poisons, or reinfection in the system, as is produced by conditions not being elimination from the body.
-
(Q) Is the prescription of quinine and whiskey recommended to the body for this condition good? If not, what remedy would you suggest? (A) That as has been given, in preference to the quinine and whiskey, for these act to much as the stimulation for those portions in the digestion that are already in a state of lapse - that is, not as active as should be. Too much stimulation, and not of the right nature for the liver, to use quinine and whiskey. Quinine would be good at present to be rubbed in.
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 9/25/26 [2675]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Cayce:
I received the reading alright. I have been waiting for a few days to acknowledge it so that when I wrote to you about it, having applied some of the suggestions that were given. I could give you some kind of report on the effect that these were having.
This antiseptic seems to be the other fifty percent needed to make the treatments suggested in the other reading a hundred percent success. I am getting very good results from it already.
The comment on the two types of adjustments referred to in the question which I asked was interesting and impressive. It bears out my experience with these so accurately and completely that I think I ought to tell you why I asked that question. I have taken chiropractic periodically all my life, but I never got any benefits from it so far as I could feel. I had never taken osteopathy until it was recently recommended in these readings. I do get very good results from this. I had the suggestions made to me - by a chiropractor - that the two were closely kin (with some qualification as to the method and locality), but that chiropractic would probably be better in my case than osteopathy (for some stated reasons which I shall not repeat). I also had the suggestion offered - “by one who has studied in both schools - that a combination of the two would probably be better than either. Strange how far a man’s environment and experience affects his judgement. I did not agree with either of the above theories because there was no comparison with the way that I felt after taking one with the way that I felt after taking the other; and results, after all, are what count. I did not know the WHY of this, but I knew it WAS this. I understand it better now after reading the explanation of it in the reading.
This is no disparagement of the value of chiropractic. I know many people who say that they have received great benefits from it, and I have no doubt that they have. In fact, there is some merit in almost any kind of treatments that you can mention - some benefits to be received by some body, at some time -, otherwise, the thousand and one kinds of treatments administered for human ills would not continue to be treatments, because, as Mr. Lincoln once said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time” - not even sick people, though of course, these are the easiest kind to fool; and that’s why some doctors who don’t know anything but a little Latin are very prosperous. But “What is one man’s meat is another’s poison”; and for still a third, it may be neither meat nor poison, being only neutral in effect. And I think it may also be aid that what would be good for a man at one time would not be good for the same man at another time.
Therein lies the value of these readings, Cayce, according to my experience with them - their accuracy and completeness so far as individual cases and conditions are concerned.
Take care of yourself, do not drive too fast nor too far simply because others are calling with their own demands. That is the Christian kind of selfishness - if there is any such kind, if there is not, why it isn’t selfishness at all.
I am enclosing a stenographic fee for the reading, hoping to eventually be able to pay the interest, at least, on what it is actually worth. I say “actual worth”, though I am conscious that this is something that can never be ascertained, because these are values with worth that wealth cannot measure. But I do think that we ought to materially manifest our appreciation of a great personal service performed, so far as possible. There are a thousand reasons why we should, but the greatest of these is that a man ought to be honest with himself. He has to, if he wants to keep friends with himself.
Let me hear from you when you feel like writing, and remember me still, as
Your friend, [2675]
R2. 10/1/26 EC’s letter to [2675]:
Mr. [2675] …, Ala.
Dear [2675]
I am in receipt of yours of the 25th, and want to thank you very, very much for same. I’m certainly glad to know that you are already feeling good results from carrying out the suggestions as have been given.
Now, in respect to the different modes of mechanical manipulation, somehow it seems that the readings have always recognized a vast deal of difference. I am sure it isn’t a personal knowledge that I have of either one - although I have taken both osteopathic treatments and the chiropractic adjustments, but seemingly, as you suggest, the readings treat each individual as an individual, and that as is necessary for the improvement of the individual condition existent at the present time, and as you say, what is good for one person at one time will not be good for the same person at another time - and, as I have heard some medical men say, that is one thing that is so confounding to the medical profession - they do not know just what to expect as a result when they give certain drugs, for one time it will act in one way and manner and another times another. It just makes me realize more and more, too, that there may be a great deal of good gained from them for the individuals, if they will attempt to apply them in their individual lives.
I certainly wish that we had the opportunity to talk in person regarding these things more often. I really believe that we could be of an aid to each other. Let’s hope the day will soon come when this can be possible.
I certainly appreciate your kindly thought, for, as you know, we depend upon the consciousness of the individual for the propagation of the work.
Don’t you have a vacation sometime before long? This is a pretty good country any time of the year - we’d like to have you!
Let us hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. With kindest personal regards,
Sincerely, EC:GD

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Association Of National Investigators, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear friend Cayce:
I received just the other day another one of the little booklets which you have gotten out concerning your work. It went to the pressing shop in a coat before I had a chance to read it, and I have been unable to recover it. If you have more of these available I wish you would please mail me one. This set me to thinking about you again and about the work you are doing. It renewed the urge that I have felt for some time to write to you, if for no other purpose than just to renew our pleasant and profitable communication on this subject and to express again my very great interest in this work. I am disappointed that I have not been able to visit you before now. That is one of several things I had planned for this year which I have not been able to get around to yet.
I am happy to report that I am feeling very much better than I was when you heard from me last. I have an occasional recurrence of the difficulties which I have described to you, but they are less frequent and far less intense than ever before. I am confident that with the advice which I have been given applied judiciously it will disappear in time altogether. That conviction brings a presence and peace of mind that is helpful in many ways. Indeed, the mental change which I have experienced is the more comforting still - a state of stability and normalcy of mind that I have not had for several years. This enables one to take hold of things in a far more effective way. Of course, this opposite is a reflection no doubt to some extent of the condition of the physical. But you cannot explain it all that way. There is a spiritual something there too that works its great reformation. When you know just what your difficulties are you feel pretty well prepared to overcome them; when you decide just where you are going and how you are going to get there, you feel much relieved even if you are not making very great progress.
I told my Mother about the benefits I have received through these reading. She has been in ill health for some time herself, and she requested that I ask you to give her a health reading at the earliest opportunity. If you will set a date when this can be arranged we will follow this up with a list of questions which she would like to have answered about her condition as soon as I talk to her a little more fully about it.
I hope that you are enjoying good health yourself and will continue to enjoy it for a long time to come. There are too many kinks in the affairs of this world to spare the service of one who can go so far by such a direct route toward straightening them out!
Command me when I can serve you in any way. Accept my best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity until I can repay some of the valuable personal service you have rendered.
Yours sincerely, [2675]
P.S. I have some more suitable stationery, but it is locked up and the key lost AT PRESENT, and as the present happened to be the time to write this, such a small matter as lack of proper paper must not keep me from doing it.
R4. 12/21/26 EC’s letter to [2675]:
Dear [2675]
I was certainly very glad to have yours of the 10th. I had begun to wonder what had become of you, how things were going with you, and how you were feeling. I’m certainly very glad to know though that you are feeling pretty good, and that things are working along in the right sort of a way and manner. I have been very much in hopes that you were going to find the opportunity to make a little trip to this part of the world, and that we would have the opportunity to talk over personally many phases of the questions that the phenomena as is manifested through me brings to the minds of most of us. And I hope yet you will have the opportunity to do this sometime in the near future.
I am very glad that you spoke to your mother regarding the results. You know, [2675] I have always had this sort of an idea about anything that we might be able to express an opinion concerning - that is, that we would necessarily have to have some sort of a standard to judge the results, or the influences that anything of this nature - or any other nature for that matter - might bring into our lives. Now, we can call this what we will or may, but this to me is as high an ideal as I know how to reckon with, and the experience I have recently passed through possibly prompts me to express this in this way - you having made mention of speaking to your mother. But it is this: If the influence of any subject, or the study of any matter makes us more confidential with our mothers, makes us better sons, better citizens - make us more patient with our fellow man, we can rest assured there is something really worth while in such a matter. This was brought home to me so forcibly in the recent illness and death of my mother. I was with her for a few days before the end came (she passed away on the 26th of October), for we knew that the end was near. But in her last hours she said to me: “Son, your mother is going to die. It’s mighty hard to leave you all. But you have done everything you could for your mother - you have kept her alive for the last three years, but you can do no more. But you must use the gift God has given you to help others.” That was truly a real message, and a real incentive, I believe, to any man - to say nothing of the many wonderful letters that I have received from others. But to hear you say, [2675] that it had meant so much to you that you had talked to your mother about it - we know it’s worth while! And you know I’ll be mighty glad to try to be of help to her if she so desires.
Yes, the little pamphlet that I sent you [see 11/1/26 letter under 4759-3] is an appeal to those we have tried to serve, to try and help us establish a place where we can serve others better - for I believe experience has shown me that, while it would not be possible to treat every individual, even that I was able to give a reading for, yet if we had an institution where the suggestions as given might be carried out, the study of the effect of such an application in the lives of individuals would be a great service, not only to the individual directly, but to the generations coming on. For, as is necessary, we know, is to say that something that awakens the best that is in the hearts of every individual, whether it be to bring better physical health, a better mental health, or better spiritual health. So I’m enclosing you one of the little pamphlets, also one of the cards, and of course we already count you as a member of our Association.
I hope you will let us hear form you real often, [2675]. I believe it really does everyone in this household good to receive a letter from you.
With kindest personal regards, and wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy and Prosperous New Year, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
