GC: You will have before you at this time the body and the enquiring mind of [270], employed by the … Co., of Room …, … St., San Francisco, Calif., and who has transferred effective July 1, 1929, from the Chicago to its San Francisco office. The body accepted this change reluctantly because of the presence of so many discouraging conditions, finally agreeing on the basis that it would be to the best interests of all concerned. Will this transfer be of a temporary or permanent nature? State in months the stay of this body in San Francisco. Will those forces and associations who have been so willing to find fault and place obstacles before the efforts of this body be allowed to continue this malfeasance of office? You will also answer the other questions I will ask you regarding this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body [270], the enquiring mind of this body, and those conditions as have surrounded the body respecting the changes. There has been given that as seen through the conditions as existed. The acts of the body in accepting this change were not in accord with those suggestions given concerning same. Then, to consider the conditions as they exist under the present arrangements is that asked and sought. Would the body-mental consider for self that, when advice or counsel was sought from the mental abilities of the body, it becoming to seek advice from those who counseled with and for the body, yet the body acting in direct opposition to that counseled, could there be faith gained in faithless action? Can there be sought truth when the actions belie that given? Then, take that thou hast in hand and work out same to thine OWN understanding. To run away from that as would trouble does not alleviate responsibility, nor does the shifting of responsibility relieve the body-conscience, or the body-ability of that as the mental being is responsible for. When one - ANYONE - feels there is only a one-side to a trouble, he may be very sure he, the individual, is SELFISH in his own outlook and is warped in his judgement by same. As to time or months, make the most of that thou hast in hand. We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/11/29 He wrote: “The report of 7/3rd was rec’d and for this I thank you, even though it was somewhat disappointing, as might under the conditions be expected. So, if convenient, would appreciate your looking over this rdg. and the other previous ones, after which I shall appreciate your personal viewpoint along with advice regarding future actions. Especially since I was personally very much handicapped in carrying out my plans and the advice as given. Someone else made all the decisions. Naturally am anxious to avail myself of your advice. Please let me hear from you. We are not very well satisfied with the place so far.”
R2. 7/17/29 EC’s letter: “I’m sorry to know you are not altogether pleased with the conditions and surroundings at present. Trust these, however, will arrange themselves in a much more satisfactory manner, or that possibly circumstances will be such that you will be able to come back East again. I would certainly like very much for you to be close enough for us to keep in direct personal touch. I assure you, Mr. [270], it is my desire to be of help if possible, whenever and wherever I can. I have no way, however, of controlling what is given in the readings themselves. Whenever they are combative with the ideas and ideals of an individual, I can’t change them! More and more, however, I think - as I study the information - the intent and purport of the information throughout is merely to assist an individual to make for himself a decision that is in keeping with his own best inner self, for his own development. Do you get my idea? Do you understand it? In other words, an individual is continually confronted with those things that come from - we know not where, except from within. They are experiences of our mental bodies, of our subconscious selves, of our inner selves, and we may arrive at the place where we don’t know just what to do. Now the information is to assist an individual in such cases. NOT in how he can make a dollar tomorrow, or how he can get a better job tomorrow irrespective of how he thinks - or anything of the kind, but more of the SPIRITUAL side - which is the life of all secular and physical life.”
R3. 7/27/29 Mr. [270] wrote: “Yours of 7/17th has been rec’d and was indeed very much appreciated…while the information in the rdg. was rather disappointing, it was about what should have been expected when contrary action was taken. However, I hope ere long to be back within the good graces of this matter, and accordingly will ask that you schedule me for a rdg. on Oct. 1st - that will be 90 days after arriving on the west coast, and it may afford light on future activity - leading, I trust, to a return East. In fact, Mrs. [4794] and I have sort of planned to stick it out for a year if necessary - and then seek a change if it does not come before. I think your version of the rdgs. as expressed in the letter is right - to guide one in making a decision to assist one’s self. That is the way it has always looked to me, but unfortunately I was not in the last instance - the Chicago case - permitted to follow the dictates of my own judgement, but was literally required to take the S. F. place - which of course is one of the discouraging phases of the whole affair. But right will eventually right itself and it is in that scope I fully expect to secure recompense. Until then I will carry on and try to improve myself.
“With your many duties I dislike to ask that you take time to write me, but would indeed be glad to hear from you when the time can be spared. I want to keep in touch with you and the work even though out here… Will send you some questions about Sept. 20th for Oct. 1st rdg.
“Thanking you again for your personal interest, I am”
Sincerely [270]
R4. 10/1/29 He obtained Rdg. 270-24.
