This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of April, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [2718], new Associate member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [2385].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2718].

3. As we find, while the body is very good in many respects, there are those disturbances that are a constant hindrance in preventing the better normal functionings through the physical forces of the body.

4. These from their long standing, in some manners, have become rather what might be termed constitutional reactions - and form something of a complication of disorders.

5. We find that these arise primarily from an injury, or a pressure that occurred in the body-physical forces some times back. And the pressures are upon the coccyx area; thus they are deflected to varied activities through the body-forces; producing some disturbances in the circulation in the exterior portions of the body, - at times upsetting the digestive system, at others causing periods of great irritation and a great deal of nerve distress through the body.

6. These vary according to activities and those disturbances through the system. To be sure, it produces the nerve tension between the sympathetic and cerebrospinal nervous system. For, in all those areas, from the character or nature of the lesion formed there, we find that sympathetic lesions are produced, - in the 9th dorsal, 3rd and 4th dorsal, and in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cervical.

7. Upsetting the organ activities, from the deflection of energies in the nerve and blood supply, we find that at times there are suppressions and at other times an overactivity.

8. These as we find are the disturbances with this body, [2718].

9. As we find, to bring about bettered conditions it will require a series of corrections in the first; some twelve to fifteen adjustments; combined with a low form of electrical stimulation - which may be given with the sinusoidal or the very low heat wave, or alternating current.

10. But the adjustments should be made at least twice a week to once a week of the low electrical treatments - or that ratio, see? These are to be given with specific reference to the straightening of the disturbances in the coccyx and lumbar subluxations, and the lesions in the 9th dorsal, 2nd and 3rd dorsal, and through the cervical area.

11. After, say, fifteen treatments and seven of the electrical treatments, we would leave off these for a period of ten days or two weeks. Then, after such a rest period, have some ten or twelve adjustments, with more of the heat wave treatments - to produce better coordination between the superficial and the deeper circulation in the nervous organisms as well as in the functioning of the system as related to blood supplies.

12. It may be necessary to follow these with a third series, but - by the middle or the beginning of the second series - we should see much bettered conditions for this body.

13. These as we find we would have done by such as Saxmann.

14. Do this.

16. (Q) What about the diet? (A) A well balanced diet, rich in the whole grain cereal and fruits, and especially raw vegetables also.

17. (Q) Is there a seat of infection in my body? (A) This arises from the general disturbance, and as deflected from those various centers between cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous systems.

These, of course, affect the blood supply by the interference in the assimilation - and thus a source of infection. However, the correction of those disturbances that deflect the impulses will bring about better conditions.

R1. 4/14/42 Mr. [2385]‘s ltr. to sister [1523]: ”…Mr. […] received his reading and is very enthusistic about it. I had given him a pretty complete review on the things Mr. Cayce had accomplished for me and mine and your letter verified what I had told him, so the fact he didn’t ans. your letter immediately did not mean that he had lost interest. He told me he was thoroughly convinced in things now that he has his reading and is going to follow it in detail. He purposefully didn’t ask ques. as he didn’t want to tip off Mr. Cayce in any way about his condition; of course being somewhat skeptical about it being possible to receive help from some one that he had never seen or had seen him and was so far away, etc. He knows from the facts given in the reading that it is correct for his case.”

R2. 5/26/42 Mr. [2385]‘s letter:

I suppose you have been wondering how the two boys [[2742] and [2718]] you gave Physicals for in this area are getting along. I have talked to both of them in the past two weeks and have a pretty fair idea of their progress. I asked them about making a report to you about the histories of their cases prior to their getting Readings and both intend to do so but wish to delay it a while for reasons best known to themselves. I have been very careful not to argue or try to persuade them in any way regarding the Readings - only to give helpful suggestions as far as I have been able. They are both very much amazed at what you were able to tell them about their troubles and are very conscientious about carrying out the Reading in detail. They have both met with difficulty with Dr. Saxmann on the treatments from him. Altho I haven’t talked with Dr. Saxmann regarding the arrangment, both Mr. [2718] and Mr. [2742] have given me practically the same story. According to both boys - Dr. Saxmann has done his best to discount the information given in the Readings, particularly in reference to the numbers of treatments and how long they should be given. He sold Mr. [2718] on the idea of joining his health club at $35.00 per month and after Mr. [2718] agreed, told him that it would cost him that whether he got one or fourteen treatments a month. Mr. [2718] asked him about giving him the electrical treatments suggested in the Reading and the Dr. told him that he could give him massages that would do the same thing or were even better and that he was able to generate electricity in his body. Well far be it from me to discount any one’s ability but I would like to go on record as being a bit skeptical of this self styled human dynamo. Of course there is a remote possibility that somewhere in the past his family tree embraced the electric eel. No information was given Mr. [2718] as to where he could get the treatments he required.

R3. 6/2/42 EC’s reply: “Glad to hear from you and have all the information therein. I am really disturbed to know that my once good friend has turned out so badly or seems so to me. I have to him and expect to hear from him very soon - and will tell you and your friends what to do. Don’t wonder that your friends are disgusted with him. …We have two good connections in other places to have any one treat people like that. As you have possibly heard there are several in N.Y.

• who if people come to them that have a reading - and tell them they are not able to pay - they will give the treatments just the same - such places as Rockefeller Center… Hope your friends don’t get the idea that I am in cahoots with Dr. Saxmann. I am asking the head of the Osteopathic profession in Kirksville, Mo. - he uses the information and endorses it
• so think he will tell me who you may trust…”

R4. 6/9/42 EC’s ltr. to [2385]: “I promised to let you know someone to suggest for your friends… This morning I received word from a man who I think we all may trust; Dr. F. M. Still, Supt. of the Osteopathic Sanitarium at Macon, Mo. He is either a son or Grandson of the founder of the system of Osteopathy. He has patients for whom readings were given in the Hospital there. He suggests either or any of these: Dr. O. C. Foreman, 58 E. Washington; Dr. S. V. Robuck, 25 E. Washington; Dr. E. W. Reichert, 27 East Monroe. Should you meet either of these would like to know your reaction to them…”

R5. 6/10/42 [2385]‘s ltr. to [1523]: ”…I suppose you read my ltr. to Mr. Cayce regarding the difficulties experienced with Dr. Saxmann. I was quite disappointed in him, especially in his efforts to discount the rdgs. to the 2 boys that were making an effort to correct their physical conditions in this way. You can imagine the effect it had on the boys - who were still a bit skeptical about what could be done for them by someone who had never seen them or had any idea of their troubles. Both readily admit that the readings hit their individual cases on the nose though. In the face of all this; both are determined to follow their reading in detail…”

R6. 7/3/42 [2336]‘s ltr. to [1523]: ”…You will be pleased to know we have found an osteopath who will follow the readings

• a Dr. Peterson [Ernest R. Peterson, D.O.], recommended by Dr. Reichert whom Mr. C. told us to see. Dr. R. doesn’t have evening office hours and that is the only time the boys can go for treatments. So Dr. R. recommended Dr. Peterson. [2385] went down to see Dr. Peterson and told him all about the readings and Dr. P. seemed very interested in them. Will you mention this to Mr. Cayce…” [GD’s note: See Dr. Still’s original letter under 2744-3 Reports.]

R7. GD’s note: Shortly after the above letter Mr. [2385] and his family moved away and were not in touch with Mr. [2718], lost track of him. He later told me that Mr. [2718] was suffering with a severe skin condition, for which he had spent over $2500 for doctors with no relief. When we later tried to contact Mr. [2718] our letter was returned marked MOVED.

B1. 3/31/42 [2718]‘s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Association of Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Virginia

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Received your letter making the appointment for the reading at 9:30 to 10:30 C.W.T. on the morning of April 4th. I will be at home, address above, and will do my best to give my utmost cooperation.

I have been treated by doctors for a number of years and was hospitalized for over seven weeks for observation, but have had no results. I may say that this reading is so new and revolutionary that it seems hardly impossible that results can be obtained. I have been assured by Mr. [2385] that results will be obtained if instructions are followed, which I will reverently adhere to. I have no specific questions to ask, other than, “If there is a seat of infection in my body, where is it?”

Other questions will probably arise later after pursuing treatment prescribed for a time.
