This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of April, 1942, in accordance with request made by the mother, new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [2599] and wife.

Rochester Time of Reading State Hospital, 10:50 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. Rochester, Minn. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have those conditions and those disturbances with this body, [2721].

2. As we find, while it might require a little time and patience, there can be improvements, there can be betterments in the physical and mental conditions of this body.

3. The administrations of sedatives, while keeping down the ravings (because of the pressures upon the nerve system), has destroyed more than it has aided. For, it has added to the inabilities of some of the organs of the physical forces to assimilate or eliminate properly. Thus those conditions from these sources have arisen.

4. We find that in the beginning, a pressure in the coccyx end of the spine, combined with a delayed activity in the glandular system as related to the menstrual flow, caused these nerve pressures - in the lumbar axis, in the 9th dorsal, and the pressures upon the adrenals that hinder the glands which control the emotional forces of the body as to the secondary or sensory system. These are the sources and the causes.

5. The administrations of the various natures have in the main only aggravated. While there have been times when seemingly there were calm periods for the body, these were very temporary.

6. There has not been the destruction entirely of the normal reflexes between the sensory and the sympathetic or imaginative system AND the central or cerebrospinal system.

7. We find that we may bring help if there will be the changing of the body to those environs such as in Macon, Missouri, and the gentle removing of those pressures in the coccyx, the lumbar and the dorsal areas, and then added those vibratory forces carrying Gold to the system - in a vibratory manner.

8. This will necessitate some changes as conditions develop, but under such environs we may find help. There will NOT be any under the present environs or surroundings.

9. Ready for questions.

10. (Q) What proportions of Gold should be used in the Solution to be carried vibratorially into the body? (A) These can best be determined after it is decided as to whether these suggestions are to be used or not. Then we may give as to the places of attaching the Appliance, as well as the quantities of Gold Solution. These treatments must be done in a cooperative, coordinative influence with those who would supervise or administer help for this body. When the arrangements are made for the body to be in such environs, then those in charge may seek - from here - the detailed directions.

11. (Q) What was the original cause of her condition? (A) An injury to the coccyx from a fall when only about three and a half to four years old.

12. We are through for the present.

R1. 4/9/42 Letter from EC to Mrs. […], [2721]‘s mother: “Am in hopes you have found the information for Miss [2721] of interest. Of course I realize what it means to raise false hopes in the minds of others. I realize any thing I may say would appear as if I were blowing my own horn, but please know I realize too that it is not of myself the work is done, but only as the Spirit of Truth may work in or through me. We have had several cases of this nature that seemed hopeless, where seeming miracles have happened. There have been a few people sent to the Macon hospital, so the work there will not be entirely new to them. Do hope you will write them and if it is at all possible or practical, do hope you will give it a try. Have had many where the condition was not such as real help might be given, but where help has been promised through a certain mode of treatment, or by certain places or individuals, when this was done the help promised has come. Am sure, of the many thousands of rdgs. that have been given, this has been true in practically every case. Many have, of course, been persuaded that the suggestions were all wrong and that the help suggested could not come from such a treatment, but where tried, whatever amount of help was offered has come. We will be glad to try and help anywhere along the line with check up rdgs. from time to time.

R2. 4/11/42 Mother’s letter: “The report of your rdg. reached me today. As far as I myself am able to judge, I may say that it sounds very reasonable and probable, though I do not know of any fall that the child had. I had been insisting to the doctors from the first that it was nerves and glands.

“I spent part of the morning talking to a man who knows the Still-Hildreth Sanatarium. It seems to be a very desirable place. The drawback is the money. He says the minimum charge is thirty-five per wk. At present I can not meet that fee. I have written to Dr. Still and have asked for details and if I can see any way to send her there I shall do so. But if it is a fair question, I should like to know if you think I could put her under the care of an osteopath myself and carry out your suggestions. There is a dr. here who went to school with Dr. Still. He is a very successful osteopath

• Dr. A. U. Fish. I should have to take her into my sister’s home here and carry out your instructions myself with his aid. Do you think that this would work?

“The only other solution I can think of is to place her there (Still-Hildreth Sanatorium) and find work in Kansas City. This it seems to me, is taking a rather desperate chance, for I couldn’t keep her there without a job. Therefore I am asking you for advice.

“I do feel that you have been a wonderful help. Will you please return the small picture of her?”

R3. 4/15/42 EC’s letter: “Have yours of the 11th. Do hope it will be possible for you to follow the suggestions as to place, but if this is impractical, then am sure would be well to undertake the information under your care, if you can get the osteopath there to give the treatments as suggested in the information. Through the years, yes - for more than 40 now - where the information is given that definite help may be had, have not seen it fail where it was done as given.

“Possibly the very presence of your care might greatly add to the benefit of the young lady [2721], or may work just opposite, as I have seen under some similar conditions, but if you can’t make the hospital, do by all means try it at home and we will try another rdg. after the first week or so and see what may be given under that circumstance. There will be no charge for this, for we are anxious that she get help.

“I returned the picture in last ltr., I wrote you I think that had not arrived when you wrote.

“Thanking you and hoping for the best in HIS name.”

The patient presents a morbid detachment and inaccessibility. The attention is occupied with a practically impenetrable reverie of random phantasy. No satisfactory discussion of her experiences is obtainable and there is mainly absence of response to questions. Alert and understanding cooperation is lacking and the execution of simple requests often ignored. There is mute indifference or an occasional mumbled and indistinct remark which has no apparent connection with immediate realities. The level of consciousness is insufficient to maintain adequate awareness and all sensibilities are in a measure clouded. Emotional reactions are impoverished. Personal needs are neglected and soiling of clothing at times occurs. There are dully confused delusional interpretations. The problem represents a well established dissociation of schizophrenic type.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

We are enclosing copy of our examinations of Miss [2721] whose mother Mrs. […], …, Oklahoma, you so kindly referred to Macon.

Miss [2721]‘s condition seems to be a well established case of dementia praecox, but because of her youth we are hopeful much can be done for her.

During the past few months we have instituted the policy of returning the examination fee to the referring doctor, and we feel this should apply to you as well, we are enclosing our check for $25.

R6. 6/2/42 EC’s letter to Dr. Fred M. Still: “Am in receipt of yours of the 26th. Thank you very much for your letter and for the report. I trust we may be favored with developments in this case. I understand another is to be sent there very soon, who now is in Boston or vicinity, but whose home is in Fla., Mrs. [2744].

“May I ask a favor, Doctor? We have several people in Chicago who need the attention of a good osteopath. We haven’t a connection there that I am satisfied with; is there some one there from the Kirksville School whom you would recommend? Would appreciate it if you would give me the name and address of such a one; we have them in many parts of the country but not one in the Chicago area.

“Doctor, in the suggestions for Miss [2721] there is an appliance indicated that has been developed through the information. This has been used in several mental cases whom Dr. Frank Dobbins of N.Y. has treated with marvelous results. Should you wish to try this there, will be glad to have the young man [Marsden Godfrey] who makes these appliances send you one to use in this case; while they are home made, they have proven effective in every case they have ever been suggested for, when followed. So you can let me know about this.

R7. 9/7/42 Mother’s letter: “Last April you advised me, after a Rdg., to take my daughter to Still-Hildreth Sanatorium at Macon, Mo. At the time, I could not see how I was to do this, for as you may recall, I am a Manila refugee and had no work or any resources. Quite unexpectedly I got a good job and she has been in the Sanatorium since May 3. I have not been able to see her since May for I have worked 8 hrs. a day, 6 days a wk. Letters from her doctor have given some encouragement, though not a great deal. Now my work ends September 15 and I am rather desperately hunting something else to do. Unless I find it, I cannot meet the hospital bills.

“You told me that you would find out through another Rdg. about her progress. I am anxious to have that now, anxious to know if we are on the right track. It means everything to me.”

B1. 4/2/42 Mother wrote: “Up until 2 yrs. ago she was a child of great promise and abounding in health and ambition. I was in Manila and sent her back to America with some of her friends, to go to school. Something which had been developing came to a head and she had to go through clinics and finally to the hospital where she has been ever since. Doctors give me no hope that she will ever be better and state that if she does get better she is apt to have a relapse and be just as she is now. I am convinced that these doctors have not yet learned what her trouble is and I believe that the mental state is the result of a physical condition which can be corrected - if I only knew what it was. She is listless, restless, won’t or can’t talk. The doctors can find no defect in her body but I can’t believe that a condition like this can develop without a physical cause. She is my only child. I am a widow, a refugee from Manila, without a job at present. I have spent most of my resources trying to help her. I am truly desperate and I will not believe that she can’t be helped. If, as the result of your Rdg., a course that cannot be followed in this hospital is suggested, I will make every effort to find a way to follow it by taking her myself & searching for a way.”
