GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2742].
-
As we find, there are conditions of which the body should take warning; rather than any specific or acute conditions in the present.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2742] we are speaking of:
-
The blood supplies indicate a form of anemia, and a tendency towards toxic reactions through the system. These produce in the body general and specific effects upon the vital forces of the body in different ways and manners.
-
These tend to make for periods when the body is subject to colds, and especially irritation in the bronchi and the larynx.
-
Also these tend to make for periods when the body finds that rest, or the attempt to rest at night, is very disturbing, or the body has disturbing experiences, with sometimes hot and cold flushes, with indeterminate conditions that upset the rest of the body.
-
There are those tendencies for a nervous digestion at times, though in the main the body finds the appetite very good - most of the time.
-
There is an unbalanced condition in the chemical forces of the body, with tendencies for the accumulation of a tendency towards a lesion - or a form of lesions - in those areas where the supply to the lungs, throat and bronchi, especially, is coordinating with the deeper circulation and the superficial. [Eczema? Bronchitis? See 2742-1, Par. R8 on 5/24/70.]
-
This also upsets the condition to the assimilating body.
-
These are the conditions to be warned against.
-
Because of the hereditary forces there is NOT the NECESSITY of, or there should not be entertained that as a necessity of weakened lungs or of asthmatic tendencies. But the conditions in the physical structural forces, and the reactions in the present, may bring ABOUT such conditions IF THERE ARE NOT MEASURES TAKEN TO ELIMINATE THE SOURCES OF THESE TENDENCIES towards the weakened conditions in the areas indicated. [Emphysema? See 2742-1, Par. R8 on 5/24/70.]
-
In the effect upon the mental AND the physical organisms, - we find that the entity is one very well balanced in its outlook; systematic in its nature, in its tendency; with an inclination towards abilities for drawing - which SHOULD be more expressed in the NATURAL reactions of the body. Mapping and such should be the activities.
-
In the reflex to the organs, - the eyes and the sensory organisms at times suffer. Hence there needs be certain specific and general corrections made in the cerebrospinal system. Then the general activities with specific character of exercise, and the specific relationships to diet as related to the general activities.
-
First, - have some specific time each day, when at all practical, for exercising in the open. There is little better than the general setting-up exercise, - walking, golfing, rowing, swimming and the like; and as much of such as may be had in the experience of the body would be most beneficial.
-
The forms of specific corrections we would have, - such as may be made by Saxmann. While these need not be wholly osteopathic, neither should they be merely or entirely chiropractic; but there should be specific corrections made in those areas from the 4th and 5th dorsal to the 1st cervicals, with some specific made - during the periods - in the lumbar and the sacral. In these there should be periods. Take a treatment every three days, or three times a week if practical, for some two or three weeks. Then leave off for ten days or two weeks. Then take for another week, leave off for two weeks. Then take for another week to ten days. These should correct those tendencies, provided the outdoor exercises are maintained as much as practical.
-
When taking the exercises, do not overtire the body - for this would be as bad upon the heart and lungs and bronchi as if none were taken; but take sufficient to tire the body. THEN relax!
-
When relaxing, there should be - at least once or twice a month - a thorough rubdown, as following a Swedish Massage - or such - with the general hydrotherapy treatment.
-
Then the diet: Keep a general quantity of calcium in the system. This would preferably be taken in the form of CALCIOS; every other day taking about the quantity as would be spread on a whole wheat cracker. Keep this up for three weeks, then leave off for ten days, and then do it again - and so on.
-
Have plenty of whole grain cereals. Never take white bread, - only the whole wheat or cracked wheat or cracked grain.
-
Take plenty of okra, pigs’ feet and such activity.
-
After these treatments have been followed for some time, and especially after the first three weeks of the adjustments, we find it would be well to take about half a teaspoonful or Knox Gelatin once a day - stirred in cold water, orange juice or the like.
-
These are the forms of things to be taken. And keep away from fried foods.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/7/42 Mrs. [2336]‘s letter: Mr. [2742] came here on Monday evening. He was all excited - he received his reading that very day and wanted to talk it over with [2385] but [2385] was working that evening so he is going to see [2385] on Thursday evening over at the other house as that is the night [2385] is going to lay the linoleum. [2742] doesn’t live far from us over there. He was kind of disappointed in the Reading because it didn’t come right out and say he had nose trouble, but after I read it over - it gave every indication of his trouble, even though it didn’t say right out that it was his nose but it definitely pointed to the trouble. I tried to explain it to him in the best way I could. He is going to follow it through. After I talked to him he seemed much better about it. I told him to talk to […] about it. I know he will do everything the reading said to do. He is going to write to Mr. Cayce. He will also let you know the progress he makes. His wife is expecting a baby in two months. They are very happy about that.
R2. 5/26/42 Mr. [2385]‘s letter reporting on Mr. [2718] and Mr. [2742]:
[2742] was told [by Dr. Saxmann], the length of time and the number of treatments were wrong as given in the Reading and that he should write you immediately for a check Reading. He told Mr. [2742] that he would have to have an X-ray made of his back to determine the exact condition - that certain vertebra were out that was not mentioned in the Reading. Mr. [2742] had the X-ray taken at the expense of
15.00 (before he discussed it with me) which X-ray corroborated EXACTLY what was given in the Reading. Mr. [2742] is a young fellow with a wife who is expecting a baby some time in July and is struggling along on30.00 a week and who borrowed the money for the X-ray. Mr. [2742] told the Dr. that he was unable to pay him all his treatments would cost (3.00 per) but would get him the money at the completion of the treatments and pay him3.00 a week while being treated. The Dr. tried to sell him his health Service and when he couldn’t get it over, became very sarcastic. Mr. [2742] owed him for two treatments at that time but explained he could only pay3.00 giving the Dr. a10.00 bill. The Dr. mumbled something about him owing him for two treatments and gave him $4.00 change
- Today Mr. [2742] receives a bill through the mail for
35.00 less6.00 paid on account with a notation at the bottom of the bill in fine print that the bill was payable in 30 days or it incurred a 6% carrying charge. I am only putting down information given me by both men with whom I have worked and have no cause to doubt their word. I intend to get the Dr.’s story IN PERSON. Meanwhile I suggested to Mr. [2742] that he discontinue his treatments until I could get word from you regarding any suggestions you might have on the situation. Both boys are unshaken in their confidence in the Readings I am happy to say and have expressed to me their belief that the Dr. is running a racket. Since neither of these fellows know the other (only by name) it would not be probable that they had collaborated on their reactions regarding the Dr.I am a bit upset regarding this as I feel somewhat responsible for the situation as both boys secured Readings after I told them how I had been helped through the Readings. I never would have suggested to them this avenue of physical help if I hadn’t felt there was a Dr. in this area that would give treatments on this basis. When I heard the stories from each of these boys of how they spent money on Dr.’s and specialists with out getting any better I just couldn’t help but suggest to them a way of obtaining knowledge of exactly what was wrong and how to treat it. Naturally I am very interested in these cases - if for no other reason but that I wish to see them well and enjoying good health.
If you can give us any suggestions Mr. Cayce it will be greatly appreciated by the three of us. This is hoping you and yours are in the best of health.
Affectionately, [2385]
R3. 6/2/42 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2385]:
Dear [2385]
Glad to hear from you and have all the information therein. Really disturbed tho, to know that my once good friend has turned out so badly or seems so to me. Have written a Dr., [2385], and expect to hear from him very soon and will tell you and your friends [[2742] & [2718]] what to do. Don’t wonder that your friends are disgusted with him, but think will be able to tell all of you how to correct this very soon - we have too good a connection in many many other places to have any one treat people like that. As you possibly have heard, there are several in N.Y. who, if people come to them that have had reading and tell them of it if they are not able to pay. They will give them the treatments just the same, and in such places as Rockefeller Center. There is no excuse for a man doing like that. Hope your friends don’t get the idea that I am in cahoots with Dr. Saxmann but think will find some one whom you can trust. Am asking the head of the Osteopathic profession in Kirksville, Mo. and he is Supt. of the largest Hospital of the profession. He uses the information and endorses it, so think he will tell me who you may trust.
Thanks a lot, [2385], for telling me about the conditions there and do hope to help correct it very, very soon. With every good wish.

R4. 6/9/42 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2385]:
Dear [2385]
I promised to let you know some one would suggest. You have your friends [[2742] and [1718]] see to carry out the suggestions fully in the readings. This morning received word from a man who think we all may trust in this line - Dr. F. M. Still, Supt. of the Osteopathic Sanitarium at Macon, Mo. [See Dr. Still’s letter under 2744-3, Par. R1.]. He is either a son or Grandson of the founder of the system of Osteopathy. He has patients for whom readings were given in the Hospital there.
He suggests either of these - you can use which ever one you like or who is the easiest to get to. They are:
Dr. O. C. Foreman, 58 East Washington; Dr. S. V. Robuck, 25 East Washington; Dr. E. W. Reichert, 27 East Monroe.
Should you meet either of these, would like to know your reaction to them. But think they will listen to you, as they were referred by the man who is possibly head of the Profession - […].
Do hope your friends will not be treated as they have been any more. Don’t quite get my friend Saxmann - but people are like that at times.
Hope all are fine with you. Thanks alot for the picture
- they are excellent. [1990] has changed a lot, looks more like you and [2695] looks like [2336]. Give them all our love. We have another wedding in the family Sat. - Edgar Evans gets married.
With love to all

R5. 7/3/42 [2336]‘s ltr.: “You will be pleased to know we have found an osteopath who will follow the readings - a Dr. Peterson [Ernest R. Peterson, D.O.], recommended by Dr. Reichert whom Mr. C. told us to see. Dr. R. doesn’t have evening office hours and that is the only time the boys can go for treatments. So Dr. R. recommended Dr. Peterson. [2385] went down to see Dr. Peterson and told him all about the readings and Dr. P. seemed very interested in them. Will you mention this to Mr. Cayce…”
R6. 2/1/43 Mrs. [2336]‘s letter: “[2742] isn’t doing so well
- the trouble he has with his nose is quite bad. He doesn’t feel that the reading has helped him any. We want him to get a check reading. We feel that he hasn’t carried through on his reading all the way. It may be that he isn’t getting the proper osteopathic treatments then again he may not be eating the things the reading gave we don’t see much of them. He works 4 nights a week overtime…”
R7. 8/12/70 Son’s letter: “Is a copy of my father’s rdg. on file and, if so, could a copy be made? He is still having trouble with the same condition and wants to try following the suggestions in the rdg. again.”
R8. 5/24/70 Son wrote: “My father’s original condition was eczema - from the chest up - and a swelling of the nasal passages (chronic). He followed most of the terms of the rdg. He had the adjustments made by Dr. Robert Saxmann [D.C.] for a brief period, 4 mos., then to a Dr. Ernest R. Peterson, osteopath, for 4 mos. He did not take the Swedish Massage or the hydrotherapy. He did take outdoor exercises, the calcium, the okra, but not the pigs’ feet. The Knox gelatin and wheat bread were also taken. After 8 mos. there was no measurable improvement in the conditions so he discontinued the tr. He was drafted two yrs. later and went to Naples, Italy for two yrs. There he went to a medical dr. who prescribed for the nasal condition prayer and discontinuing the nasal drops he was taking. After 1 and 1/2 yrs. it cleared up completely but when he ret’d to the States it ret’d. Several yrs. later, in 1947, he became subject to attacks of bronchitis. Also then in 1951 the eczema condition flared up seriously - an inflamed rash over all the skin area and hives which kept him out of work for 4 mos. In the hospital he was treated by Dr. Lawless
- Barium, Sodium and Cortisone shots being given. These improved the condition to a point where he was able to work but did not cure it. Over the yrs. it has decreased, however. Dad now has emphysema with periodic attacks of asthma for which he is hospitalized ever so often. He still works for the … Elec. Co. which is now in …, Ill. I hope he will retire in several yrs. and go to a warmer, cleaner environment.
“I hope the above information is helpful. Mr. Cayce was accurate in his description of Dad’s condition, especially in his warning that the tendencies for asthma and lung trouble were present. If he had been persistent in following the instructions for a longer period of time than he did (8 mos.), he most likely would not be troubled now.”
Background
Background
B1. 4/7/42 Letter: “For the last two and one-half years I have been afflicted with an ailment. During this period I was attended by four different doctors, but none of them seemed to be able to aid me.” [Eczema? See 2742-1, Par. R8 on 5/24/70.]
B2. 4/27/42 He submitted questions [for first Physical Rdg]:
In case there are any medical or osteopathic treatments to be given, please refer to certain doctor and specify directions for such treatment.
Due to the fact that asthma seems to be hereditary thruout my family, please advise if I, too, have inherited the tendency and will at some later date contract the asthmatic condition.
