This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 7th day of October, 1942, in accordance with request made by the father - member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born October 7, 1942, 7:05 A. M., EWT., St. Vincent’s Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia. Time of Reading … Street, 11:15 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions that may be asked:

2. EC: Yes, we are given the records here of that entity now called Baby [2824] [Surname used here].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records here, many things and conditions should be considered as to the name. For, the entity has been in those experiences in the earth a figure in the land, and the lands, of the entity’s activities.

4. Hence, names will mean much to the entity.

5. As we find from the records, and in the interpretation of same, the name SHOULD be: [2824].

6. For, as we will find, of those activities of the entity, these will be characteristics:

7. A very DETERMINED individual, yet NOT high tempered, but HAVING his way!

8. Here we find the entity an ancestor of himself, - [2824], in the experience before this; a farmer, a wide awake, high-minded individual. [GD’s note: b. 1829. d. 1881]

9. In this experience the entity should be a doctor; and should, and will, be a very betraveled individual.

10. He will be an observer of little things.

11. He will be wealthy - which will come from listening, taking advantage of opportunities; as will be seen in not only having his own way but in the experiences that will be part of the entity’s experience.

12. Entering at this particular period, there will be in the affairs of the earth those activities similar to those as the king of Sweden, in keeping with that of keeping peace in the earth. This will be a part of the entity’s activities.

13. Teaching also is indicated in the experience. Thus the unusual opportunity of education, by travel as well as by that of association and of pedagogy.

14. Spiritual precepts should be especially stressed in this entity’s early developing; not by force or by might but by reasoning.

15. The entity will be one of strong body, and should be allowed to engage in all characters of sports; football, baseball, soccer, tennis, bowling, - all of these should be in the experience of the entity; not as an activity for pay, but as developing of body, of mind.

16. Beware of politics for this entity; though there will be opportunities for same through the experience of the entity in the earth.

18. Beware of activities that have to do with the digestion, and the throat. These are the weaknesses in the karmic forces influencing this body.

Educate, put then in the way of the entity those things that may have to do with every form of those activities spiritual, mental and material, that may be of a helpful force in bringing to those in the material plane the consciousness of health-giving force in the experience of those that suffer; knowing that He, the Son, healeth thy diseases, He enlighteneth thy mind, He encourageth those who seek after Him, - spiritually, mentally, materially.

22. (Q) Which of the names should the body be called? (A) [2824].

23. (Q) Any other suggestions for training the body, or as to the warnings for the physical? (A) As indicated, the warnings are as to the digestion and throat. The training, - spiritual aptitude, mental alertness, physical - always meeting the issue squarely.

24. (Q) Any special time of warning for the physical, from astrological conditions? (A) The eleventh of any month.

The entity should, when choosing a companion, choose one either for January or October.

25. (Q) Can any more be given at this time regarding the appearances in the earth? (A) These should be sufficient for knowing what you have to deal with for the present. Let the entity seek that as indicates other activities.

To be sure, it was a physician in the period of the Master, - and the writer. It was a king in Sweden, Charles III. It was a [2824] in the experience before this, [2824]. In the Egyptian experiences it was the offspring of the Young King. In the experiences in China it was the father of the entity who is at present its mother.

R2. 6/8/35 A paragraph out of EC’s letter to Mrs. Mattie Sue Jones, wife of EC’s first cousin Thomas Cayce Jones, in Hopkinsville, Ky.:

“I haven’t been able to keep the whole family out of my mind this morning. It is the anniversary of Grandpa’s [Thomas Jefferson Cayce] death. I was the one who was with him when it happened, and I remember it every year, though it’s been over fifty years. How well I remember the day, and the reaction of each member of the family!”

R3. 10/7/42 EC gave Life Reading 2824-1 for the baby son of Hugh Lynn and Sally Cayce when he was four hours old!

R4. 10/10/42 EC wrote Anne Gray Holbein [daughter of Mamie and Wood Gray of Selma, Ala.]: “Our young man has arrived. Came Wed. morning the 7th. Mother and son doing well. He is certainly a cute little dickens. Saw him for the first time last night. Looks as if he might be three weeks old rather than just three days. I guess I would be crazy about him anyway but the reading gave me plenty reason to be, and of course to me he looks it [that he is his great, great grandfather returned my Grandpa]. His name is [2824] [according to the reading], [Ecken says his name sounds like triplets, or his initials like a railroad - in his joking wire to the parents.], but maybe he will live up to it. We are all very happy about the whole thing.”

R5. 10/16/42 EC wrote to Dollie Templin Herring [who used to work for him in his photographic studio in Selma, Ala.:

“The baby is real cute; is supposed to have been my grandfather [before this] - Thomas Jefferson Cayce - so I have a good excuse to make a fool of myself over him.”

R6. 10/20/42 EC wrote his friend Mrs. Lydia J. Schrader Gray: “All have been excited here for the past two weeks. [2824] is a very interesting personage. We are of course all very crazy about him, and his reading gives me plenty reason to be more than crazy about him, as he was apparently my own grandfather and now we are reversed. As I was very close to my grandfather the first five years of this life, and talked with him so much just after his passing, he has a special place in my mind and heart. Will be most interesting to watch his development. He was born on Oct. 7th at 7:05 in the morning. His chart is most interesting.

“Yes, Hugh Lynn is still here. He is working with the State and Government agencies for recreation. I think he is doing a very good work, but of course is walking on air just at this time. Mother and son are doing nicely; came home from the hospital last Saturday. He will be two weeks old tomorrow. Looks very much like Hugh Lynn. Naturally, both parents are very proud of him.”

R7. 4/6/51 Mother asked for and was sent an extra copy.

R8. Father reported that at an early age the child had been very shrewd about money; had saved his money from his paper route and invested it wisely, deciding on investments from LISTENING to conversations in his presence between men whose opinions he respected.

He did take part in sports, Scout activities, scholastic teams in school; was always an Honor Roll student; participated in church and Sunday School activities, etc.

R9. 2/8/63 Father reported that at an early age [2824] decided, without any discussion or knowledge of his Life Reading, that he wanted to be a doctor. Now in his Senior year at college he plans to go into medicine; during the last year or so he has been a little bit undecided, thinking perhaps he should go into the Christian ministry; it is possible that he may decide to prepare himself for a medical missionary. He plans to travel in Europe this summer.

R10. 1/8/65 Mother reported: “[2824] is at the Univ. of … this year, studying psychology, and is signed up to enter Univ. of … Medical School next fall. He has been making extra money coaching football, but he phoned us to say he has been made assistant to the Head of the Psychology Dept., he grades papers, makes out test questions, etc. It is all so wonderful, because his Dad wanted so much to get his degree in psychology, now [2824] is showing such an interest and doing so well in it - gets all A’s, etc.”

R11. 6/66 Jess Stearn interviewed young [2824] and wrote the report into his chapter on The Cayce Babies in EDGAR CAYCE - The Sleeping Prophet (Doubleday & Co., 1/67).

R12. 4/67 GD’s note: We heard that he had bought a farm and was working it, living in a trailer, while carrying on his school work.

R13. 5/68 He got his Ph.D. in Psychology.

R14. 4/70 GD’s note: We heard that as a clinical psychologist he was becoming involved in an overall educational and research program with special emphasis on developing and directing a youth program. For the past two yrs. his position has combined an appointment from both the Univ. of … and the U.S. State Dept., enabling him to spend several months in each of a number of countries, including Germany, Italy, Pakistan and Turkey. He worked as an educational consultant to study and participate in educational programs of both the specific country and of the U.S. Gov. installations in that country. His experience as a psychologist has included work as a school psychologist and the teaching of psychology at the university level.
