This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 22nd day of September, 1933, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [287], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [287]; this we have had before.

2. Many changes in the body since last we had same here; some are for the betterment in the physical forces, some are not so well.

3. As we find, these tendencies for the overtaxing in the system - of the reactions through the nerve forces of the body, produced by contractions in the cardiac portion of the stomach proper, affecting the aesophygus and the bronchi through reflex or nerve contraction - are BETTER than we had them before!

4. We would continue with the adjustments and treatments, see; more of the osteopathic; and we would also find it would be well - when completing the massage and manipulation - that over the area of the upper dorsal and lower cervical, or from the 5th cervical to the 5th and 6th dorsal area, there be massaged an equal amount of olive oil and tincture of myrrh; heating the oil and adding the myrrh - see? just what the body will absorb. Also we would find it well to massage same in the area of the aesophygus entrance into the stomach proper, or the pit of the stomach as is sometimes called, or at the cardiac end of the stomach. This also in the throat would be well, and will aid in relieving those pressures; though it may tend to produce at times some little cough, but it will eventually relieve the condition.

5. Still we would take, of course, those properties that have been found beneficial in relieving the taxation to the body. Olive Oil and Saffron Tea.]

R1. 10/4/33 He wrote GD: “Better now. Can move about better.”

R2. 10/18/33 His ltr. to EC:

“I received your reading, and about ten days ago I was in my little corn patch, and I fell unconscious, lay in the mud for probably a half hour. When I came to I managed to get back to my home - I was only about a square away. In a half hour after I got home, I was all right.

I then started in with Dr. Farrand [Jacob H. Farrand, D.C.]. He looked your reading over, said that he could take care of me just as well as an Osteopath, and he believed better, for he knew you and would follow your instructions. Have taken four treatments and just feel fine. Can walk again anywhere without pain in my throat. I designate my throat, and it may not be my throat, but that is where it seems to be, or at least, that is where it hurts, and something swells and chokes me.

I begin to think now, since I have had your last reading that my whole trouble is a nervous condition.

After taking one treatment from Dr. Farrand, I could walk - before I had taken a treatment it was all that I could do to walk a square without stopping and resting. I will write you more about my own condition a little later. I feel that I am improving fast now.

A friend of mine, Adam Krauss, he has been doctoring with numerous doctors, and he does not get any better - I tried to have him go and see you. He has about made up his mind to do it. Also President of Whitehall Lumber Co. has a boy seven years old that has convulsions almost every day. I want him to try you. He seems to think it could not be possible for you to tell what is the matter with his child.

One thing hurts a little - I have been so long getting well myself, causes them to lose a little confidence. They don’t realize the awful condition I have been in in the past ten years, caused by that white lead poisoning. I take it from your readings that it all drifts back to that trouble.

In the reading you did not say anything about my hearing - it has been pretty bad, but since Farrand’s treatments it is much better. Possibly the trouble that I have previously written about may too, be the cause of the loss of the hearing, is the reason you did not mention it.”

R3. 10/23/33 Letter from EC to Mr. [287]:

My dear Mr. [287]:-

I have yours of the 18th; sorry indeed to know you had such an awful experience as to almost pass out of the picture entirely, even for a few hours. I certainly am hoping that Dr. Farrand will be able to meet the situation and follow out the lines suggested. And I feel that this will overcome the condition. I do not just understand why it has improved and then, all of a sudden, seemed to be as bad as ever or worse. I’m sure you are correct in the analysis of the condition. Also I’m sure that Dr. Cooperrider would say that the condition is the effect of thickened tissue, produced by the poisoning from the white lead in the aesophygus and possibly a portion of the stomach. Unless you are able, by the increase of circulation - which is signified can be done through the manipulations and adjustments, so as to dissolve or take away this thickened tissue produced by this poison, why there will be continually the return. Of course, as I’ve said from time to time, I feel that you - like myself - do not respond as you once did, when you had a great deal more resistance. So, you’ll have to be just a bit patient and persistent in your treatments, diet and activity. However, should you desire to have a check up or any specific questions asked, know that we will be glad to help in any way possible. It might be very well for Dr. Farrand to make out a list of questions to have asked about your condition, and the results he finds or does not find.

As yet I haven’t heard anything from Krauss, or from the President of the lumber company. I would be very glad to try and be of help to them. I’m quite sure it is hard to explain to others just why you haven’t been entirely relieved of your disturbance, though I’m sure you are of the opinion yourself that if it hadn’t been for this information you would have not been here now.

Let us hear from you. We are all fairly well here, and certainly hope this finds you feeling a whole lot better.

R4. 11/8/33 He wrote EC: “Well, I am some better again, but seems I can’t hold up, but still have hope that I will finally get well. If I don’t soon, I am going to Va. Beach to try and find out why I don’t get well. Some reason, for I am just as well as I can be except for the nervous condition, but I feel Dr. Farrand is helping me.”

R5. 11/19/33 “Well, I am getting better. The right side of my throat is very sore, yet the left side seems to be all right. But I can walk much better. The Olive Oil and Myrrh rubbed on outside my throat does a lot of good, as well as Dr. Farrand’s treatment.”

R6. 3/8/34 He wrote: “Edgar, about one week after my last letter to you [in 11/33], I became much worse. Well, the family all wanted me to try something else. Well, I did, and got worse all the time. The doctor took me off Olive Oil and put me on Nujol. Got worse all the time. Now I am back on Olive Oil and Saffron Tea.

“Dr. Farrand came out to my house twice in the last two weeks. I am going to his office today. This is the first time I have been down town since last Dec. I can now walk about 800 feet before I have to stop. Now, I feel fine - only can’t exercise much.

“Dr. Farrand thinks I will get well now. He is following your instructions.”

R7. 4/2/34 “Well, I am much better. My nerves have quieted down. When I last wrote to you I could not hold pen or pencil quiet - I just shook like a leaf. Dr. Farrand is bringing me out, by following your instructions. I think I am better now than any time in the last two years.”

R8. 6/7/34 He wrote:

“Now, Edgar, with regard to my own physical condition: First, I am just as well as I can be in every way, except my throat. Dr. Farrand’s treatment entirely cured my headaches, my nervous trouble, which caused my sleeplessness. I sleep well, appetite is always good, and as I said before, my throat still troubles me.

My larynx still swells and causes choking feeling, and when this occurs I cannot move about, but if I rest and am perfectly quiet, I will get relief in a few minutes, and it requires from 5 to 7 tablespoonfuls of olive oil after meals and a tablespoonful before I retire, then I can get up in the morning feeling all right until after breakfast. It just seems as soon as I eat, I am done for unless I take olive oil.

My larynx on the right side has a very hard pointed lump. I wish when you can, you would tell me what to do for that.

And also my hearing is not bad, but I cannot hear a whisper. In other words, I can hear a whisper, but I can tell what is said. Now, if these two corrections could be made, I certainly would be in A-No.1 condition.

All Doctors that I have talked with, those who I personally know, all say that the white lead poisoning that I received ten years ago could not have caused the trouble I now have with my throat. I am usually at home in the evening after 5:00 o’clock, either in the house, or probably out in the garden.”

R9. 6/13/34 EC gave Ck. Physical 287-15, saying the growth WAS from the searing, or scar tissue. Sinusoidal was recommended.
