This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of June, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [287], Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:30 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (No suggestion - came without asking, at end of another reading.)

1. EC: We have, now, [287], …, Ohio.

2. The conditions are serious. The weakness from the fullness in the throat, the shortness of the breath, from the activity upon the heart, the inability of assimilation, make for great stress upon the body.

3. Keep quiet, to be sure - this is necessary; but hold fast to the Olive Oil and the Saffron Tea, with a deep rub of a counter-irritating nature to the cardiac or secondary cardiac plexus in the cerebrospinal system - this will stimulate the activity of the coordination in the circulation of the cardiac portion of the stomach, of the liver, and allay the heaviness between the circulatory forces of the heart and the liver, as to be most helpful. This we would stimulate by at least once or twice each day, at least until the period when the body is able to be on the feet again, with a compound for such rub prepared in this manner:

4. To 2 ounces of Sweet Oil (not just Olive Oil, not just Castor Oil, but old time - as it may be called - Sweet Oil), add - in the order named:

Cedar Wood Oil…1/2 ounce, Oil of Wintergreen…1/2 ounce, Sassafras Oil…1/4 ounce, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…1 ounce.

These naturally separate, but shake together and massage all the body will absorb over the upper dorsal, lower cervical area, or opposite the chest and the activities of the areas indicated; a little across the lower portion of the pharynx, or the upper portion of the epiglottis, also will be helpful - the cardiac portion of the stomach itself.

5. Keep quiet, and let the diet be liquids - beef juice especially and those of such natures that give strength without the requirement of the activity of the glandular system and of the digestive forces in the present.

6. We are through for the present.

”…Your special delivery with reading received, and as Mr. [287] is not able to write he wants me to answer and tell you he is beginning to gain and can be up part time. Your suggestions have been followed and he thinks the liniment is helping to restore the use of his right side, which was partially paralyzed from head to foot. His blood pressure was 230, and he has been in a very serious condition. He was very glad to hear from you and will write you as soon as he is able…”

R2. 9/1/37 Dr. Jacob H. Farrand [D.C.]‘s letter:

”…I understand from Miss [4383], Mr. [287]‘s sister-in-law, that Mr. [287] is in pretty bad shape. He never did continue the treatments here - only 2-3, and as soon as he got better he stopped…”

R3. 9/4/37 EC’s letter to Dr. Farrand: ”…Sorry to hear Mr. [287] is not so well. I knew he had never given the last suggestions much of a chance [287-18 recommending colonics, etc.]…”

R4. 10/13/37 [287]‘s wife [2646]‘s wire: “Mr. [287] is in a serious condition at his home. Can you suggest anything to relieve his suffering? Answer at our expense.”

R5. 10/14/37 EC gave Check Physical reading, 287-20, advising only sedatives to keep body quiet and high electrical vibrations.

B1. 3/31/36 He obtained 287-18 for what the doctors called a heart condition, blood pressure and kidney condition; but his main concern seemed the throat-chest condition resulting [EC said] from white lead poisoning many years ago.

B2. 8/11/36 [287] wrote he was getting worse under the doctors’ treatments and was returning to the EC reading suggestions.

B3. 12/4/36 He reported great improvement.

B4. 5/20/37 [287] wrote: ”…Have got the big lump out of my throat. Think I will come out okay now. Your suggestions have brought me out…”

B5. 6/21/37 [287] wrote: ”…I have been feeling badly for the past three weeks; most of the time in bed, am getting discouraged. Hence my writing you. What shall I do? Hope to hear from you soon…”

B6. 6/28/37 EC volunteered 287-19, following Check-readings for Mrs. [601] and Mr. [165], without the suggestion having been given to obtain it. [Apparently, from wife’s letter 7/4/37, [287-19, Par. R1], Mr. [287] had suffered a stroke and was partially paralyzed on the entire right side. Daughter [1866]‘s letter, 10/19/37, filed in 287-20 Par. R1, said, “ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO his whole right side became numb. The doctors say it is a generalized arteriosclerosis and a heart condition, and all they can do is to ease him with sedatives…”]
