GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2946].
-
As we find, there are tendencies and inclinations which exist that may be corrected and thus prevent disturbances later on that might prove very disturbing to the body.
-
These, then, are conditions-physical as we find them with this body, [2946] we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
In the nerve and blood forces of the body we find the indication of the disturbances. With those activities which have been a part of the experience of the body, some tissue became involved; and with the unbalancing of the impulses between cerebrospinal and sympathetic nerve force, too great quantities of impulse of blood flow causes that tendency for lymph to accumulate.
-
Through the activities of mind as related to physical and body forces, much of these have become deteriorating in their reaction; that is, a preventative of those influences becoming more and more involved in the accumulating centers.
-
These as we find are indicated in the areas of the 9th and 10th dorsal centers, and thus involve those areas about the liver, the gall duct, as well as in the pelvic areas.
-
As we find, by changing the chemical reaction, as well as by stimulating those activities for better coordination between eliminating and digestive forces, there may be brought those results that will be most beneficial to the body.
-
In association with other inclinations and disturbances that form this continued reaction, tendencies are produced in the glandular force; as indicated to the mammary glands as well as to the thyroid and those glandular forces between the duodenum and the activity in the pancrean area.
-
These, as given, are tendencies; they have not as yet formed accumulations that may not be - with the proper administrations - brought to coordinating activity between nerve forces, blood supply, eliminations and assimilations for the body.
-
In the functioning of organs as related to these, and those tendencies that arise from such disturbances, we find there are periods when these become much more aggravated than at others.
-
As given, as they ARE the effects of a chemical unbalance, there are certain foods that are detrimental to the body; such as the combinations that produce the effect of too much acidity for the body. These in the reactions cause irritation to the glandular forces from the thyroid as well as from the glandular reaction in the kidney area. These naturally find reflexes in the pressure existent in the 9th and 10th dorsal centers, and produce a heaviness through the lower abdominal area.
-
This at times - if there is overactivity - finds a reaction in the tiredness produced in lower limbs, and between shoulders at times.
-
The activity of the general system is very good.
-
Throat, bronchi, lungs and larynx, organically are very good. As indicated, those activities to the soft tissue of face, - as in the antrum, as in portions in back of head, - at times under stress produce a heaviness rather through these areas.
-
Assimilations in the most part are very good, save when unbalanced by the out of the ordinary combinations.
-
Then, in making correction of these disturbances, - these would be the manners. But there is not to be left out that mental attitude in the meditations of seeing, feeling the body being corrected in such measures as to fill and fulfil a greater service for creative forces and influences. For, these are ever a contributory force to the physical body, from mental and spiritual attitudes. For, the body is one, - body, mind, soul. And indeed the body is the temple of the living God. There He has promised to meet thee within thyself.
-
Yet there should be those activities from without, as the combinations of certain elements. In this body there should be taken, at least three times each week, at least half an ounce to an ounce of pure beet juice. This may include the leaves also. Possibly it may be preferable from the cooked beets, by themselves. But the beet juice should be extracted, or prepared as in a juicer; or, if this is not practical for the body, then drink the juice in which the beets are prepared - the water in which they are boiled. But the pure juice is needed, not only the salts but those elements that are within; which will tend to alleviate these pressures and tendencies.
-
Also we would have a releasing mechanically of those tensions especially in the 9th and 10th dorsal, coordinating the upper dorsal and cervical area with same. These would be made just occasionally, once a week, until three or four are made; and then when the body is tired.
-
We refer to the osteopathic correction, you see, of the mechanical conditions as indicated.
-
Also we would use the low vibrations from the violet ray (hand machine, bulb applicator), when there is the tendency towards tiredness in the limbs, through the shoulders, and the heaviness through the abdominal area. Do not give it too strong, but for a minute and a half apply the bulb applicator along the spine - when ready to retire. It will make those centers corrected (by the mechanical means, or osteopathically) coordinate with the juices, especially of beets, in the body. We would use the violet ray two, three to four times a week; this dependent upon the feeling of the body, you see. Use just before retiring. The body may use the applicator itself or have it applied by one close to the body at the time, see?
-
Do these, and we will bring better conditions for this body, [2946].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Do you think I can avoid an operation by following these directions? (A) We are sure you may avoid an operation. For these will cause a balance to be created in the vibratory forces of the body, as well as in the elimination and assimilation through the system.
-
(Q) What particular or specific foods should be avoided? (A) Those combinations of starches with too great quantity of proteins.
-
(Q) Will that take care of the arthritis? (A) The beet juice itself will take care of that, as well as the other disturbance - if there are the corrections made in the cerebrospinal system for the “stepping up” of the vibratory centers or ganglia along the cerebrospinal system!
-
(Q) Could I correct my eye trouble with exercise? (A) This will eventually need a stimulating effect, or the glass, but in the present - with the correction of these centers AND the head and neck exercise, this may be kept near to normal.
Of morning before arising, when first sitting up, take the forward motion of head, bending down - you see - three times; back three times; to the left three, to the right three, and then a circular motion of the head - to the right, then to the left. And the same activity in the evening when ready to retire.
- (Q) I have terrific trouble with menstrual cramps. (A) As indicated from the accumulations or tendencies for activities in the pelvic organs, with the correction in the 9th and 10th dorsal, with the vibrations from the violet ray, these will gradually disappear.
When there are the periods of the cramp, use a heated salt pack (or salt heated and put in a bag or pad, you see) over the pubic center. This will allay the disturbance.
And the osteopathic corrections will ELIMINATE the causes of these disturbances.
Do these things, and we will bring better conditions for this body.
- We are through for the present.
Two copies to Self (one for osteopath) Copy to Ass’n file
(If unable to obtain a vegetable juice extractor, the use of Patapar Paper in preparing the beets may be a solution - as it will preserve the juices. Patapar Paper is manufactured by the Paterson Parchment Paper Co., Bristol, Penna., and sells for 25 cents a dozen sheets. Sometimes it may be obtained from Kress, or the household dept. of a Dept. Store.
A violet ray, hand machine, bulb applicator, may be obtained from most any drug or electrical supply house.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/31/43 Remarks to GD immediately following 2946-1:
She has arthritis - 6 years ago spent some time in a private clinic at Baltimore and in the University of Chicago clinic; was told she would eventually be a wheel-chair patient. Wore crutches for some time in childhood. Had gall bladder removed. Has been told another operation is to be performed soon, or should be. Suffers severe cramps for two weeks at menstrual periods.
Feels sure she can get her osteopath to cooperate, as he will agree with the diet suggestions; has been warning her of meats and starches together - Dr. A. C. Weber, Freeport, Ill.
R2. 4/3/43 It seems silly to try to say thank you to you all in a few hasty lines. It couldn’t be done with a ream of paper. I’m so grateful to you every one, and especially to you personally - and to the leading which brought me to you. When I get home I shall write more adequately.

R3. 4/14/43 She requested a Physical Rdg. for Mrs. [2996].
R4. 5/43 She referred Mrs. [3006], [3005], [3361] and Mrs. [3954] to EC for readings.
R5. 5/16/43 She obtained a Life Reading - see 2946-2.
R6. 8/17/43 [2946]‘s letter to [1535]:
Dear Miss [1535]:
I was glad to have your letter and to know that you are going to have a physical reading. When I had mine I did not know a thing about the procedure, other than Mr. Sugrue’s book indicates, and I was amazed at the sort of going-over Mr. Cayce gave me - in his sleep. I still cannot believe the results but he put his finger on a trouble of thirty years and when I followed his simple directions, the thing cleared completely. Sometimes his directions are rather involved and meticulous - as any course of treatment for a stubborn disease is likely to be - but I have seen some amazing results, which makes me keenly hopeful for you.
You need to fill out your own application blank. Herewith enclosed. You do not need to tell him anything if you would rather not. It seemed to me that when he had some slight history of the case, Mrs. Cayce and Miss Davis (the secretary) were able to ask questions to better advantage if any questions seemed necessary. For instance, they sometimes ask for amplification of dietary instructions, or whether medicine should be taken before meals etc. Mr. Cayce himself pays no attention to histories. He just goes to sleep! All of them feel it is extremely important for the “patient” to keep his mind on the reading while it is going on. Of course, they have to know exactly where you will be at the given time - say the morning of Sept. first.
I’ll be thinking of you, too. And blessings on you!
Cordially, [2946]
R7. 8/25/43 Questions submitted: You have before you the inquiring mind of [2946] in an effort to find help on the problem of maintaining a better coordinated physical-mental-spirtual adjustment. You will analyze her basic habits of life - eating, exercising, sleeping, working, praying - and make suggestions which will help her to live more efficiently with less wasted effort, fewer sick spells, more full and steady spiritual growth. You will answer the questions she asks and comment on the questions she ought to have asked!
Because low efficiency appears to be related to customary diet, would you suggest the cause of frequent digestive upsets of various sorts? Is it advisable to refrain entirely from eating proteins and starches at the same meal? Do I require an extraordinary amount of citrus fruit? What vitamins might be helpful? Do I drink too much water?
Because I am weary much of the time, concentration for deep meditation is difficult. How much sleep on an average do I require for alert mental effort?
Is regular exercise indicated and if so, should the exercises be of the stretching, setting-up sort or would walking or swimming be better?
Realizing that the cells of the body renew themselves periodically, how could I eliminate from my physical make-up whatever deleterious substances retard their renewal? What hereditary deficiencies do I need to overcome in order to achieve a long and spiritually active life?
Because both physical and spiritual well-being seem retarded by anxiety over financial obligations, could you make suggestions for curtailing expenditure or increasing income to meet obligations? Because I feel that no one can offer genuine spiritual service while owing bills, would it be better for me to undertake temporarily some paid job other than writing - or can I soon write my way out of debt?
Would you make suggestions toward revolving the conflict between the urge to write and necessity to carry a good deal of outside responsibility? Would I do better to concentrate on writing for certain periods of the year or to maintain a daily schedule which includes writing?
Am I sufficiently prepared to be of use in some part of the program to feed the undernourished children of Europe or Asia? If so, how would I find my place in that work?
Hi! Gladys - here are my questions. I had fun cooking them up. They have stewed in my mind all summer. The more I learn about effective living, the more I want to learn. Time is so precious! And BEING is slower than DOING. At the end of the summer I feel a little gain and that is treasurable, isn’t it, but I wish I weren’t so darn dumb. In my next incarnation I’m going to know a lot about something - the hind foot of the flea on Buddha’s robe will do - just so I’ll have self-respect. You must have great satisfaction in having a part in a first-class service to mankind. That’s the way to get peace, poise and purpose. If I’m going to get ‘alliterational’ I’d better go help my Dad cut corn for canning.
R8. 8/30/43 She obtained a Physical Rdg. for mother, Mrs. [3185].
R9. 9/2/43 Letter: “Did you ever see such a mess as our readings [appointments] got into? I still don’t understand it because I had everything written down with what I thought was great exactitude…”
R10. 9/6/43 It seems to me that perhaps the time has come to organize the readings a bit, at least for a time. I mean that if you have uncovered special treatment for tuberculosis, let us say, which would be useful to thousands instead of to the few dozen who have had t.b. readings, then we should gather together all the relevant data which has come through on tuberculosis. But also at the same time perhaps you could take a bunch of t.b. readings, as many as thirty more, one after the other. As we listened to these readings we would learn to ask more intelligent questions - and by ‘we’ I mean a small group which included two or three doctors. Then we would have a fuller picture of TB, its predisposing causes as well as its cure. Then the findings on TB could be made available in book form or as a published monograph.
I am using TB only as an example. There may be other subjects much more important. All the material on allergies would be a wonderful contribution. Then from the present accumulation of applications you could pick fifteen to thirty cases who were suffering from various allergies and ask an allergy specialist to listen in and help ask questions.
You would be helping just as many people this way and you would be rendering a double service in the long time interest of a great many more people. Would you sort of think the matter over and consult with Hugh Lynn? I realize, of course, that you would have to keep emergency periods free at regular intervals no matter what special subject of research you were working on.
Somehow I feel strongly that your extra-sensory information would be added to the already known scientific information to check and correct the latter, and that this gathering together of material should proceed in a thorough-going scientific fashion. We are always safe-guarded by being able to check such a plan against the advice of the Information; if ‘it’ says this is a good procedure, then we proceed but if ‘it’ says nixy, then it is nixy.
The philosophical side of the work interests me most but that is too long to write a letter about tonight. The thing has to serve a religious end; it has to answer the seeking of eager hearts.
R11. 10/22/43 GD’s note: See 254-114, Par. 6-A regarding above [Par. R10] method.
R12. 10/26/43 See 2946-4, Mrs. [2946]‘s fourth reading but second Physical, for which she was present.
R13. 2/15/44, 6/20/44 She obtained Ck. Physicals 2946-5 and 2946-6.
R14. 4/6/77 GD’s note: She died in February 1977 with cancer of the liver and intestines - see note of this date under 2946-6 Reports. She had requested cremation. A memorial service was held, or planned for, Easter week-end [April 10?] 1977.
