GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2946]; this we have had before.
-
There are many changes in the general physical condition of the body, specifically and generally. Most of these, in the present, are for betterments, but unless there are precautions taken to not overtax the system physically, mentally, there may be brought about extravagances in the attempts of the nerve system to so aggravate the conditions through the body as to make for very poor, very abnormal reflexes in the central nervous system. For, there are, to be sure, many adjustments that are to be made in circulation, in activities of organs in the general system.
-
Then, again, REST, not long periods but each twenty-four hours have so many hours of rest; so many hours of recreation; so many hours of preparation and we will find we can bring, now, the body to do some of its best mental work for others.
-
For equalizing the balance in circulation and in nerve energy, use as a helpful complement the vibrations of the body-forces themselves, so that they are equalized by their necessary balancing and coordinating through the system, using the Radio-Active Appliance as prepared for the body. But do be consistent; do be persistent and that hour each day as it is used in accordance with the regulations, keeping the body relaxed, use that period as the time for meditation and prayer. Have ye learned (as ye have) the difference between prayer and meditation? Prayer is supplication to God and meditation is listening to His answer.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) To help make endocrine deficiencies following the hysterectomy is one-half milligram the correct daily dosage of stilbestrol? (A) This isn’t much good. It would be better is you would supply this rather in the preparations which are adding the hormones through the activities which will bring the correct balance in the body, as in the enzymes for the body. These are not to be with iron but plain. Add them in the form of Ventriculin, you see. They will be preferable, but you have have to keep more quiet! You may use the others and be sorry later.
-
(Q) What electric Appliance? (A) Radio-Active Appliance. Would you have us build one?
-
(Q) Would fairly large doses of vitamin E be helpful? (A) These will be helpful.
-
(Q) Are there suggested corrections of tendency toward constipation? (A) As we find, if we will follow through with Ventriculin (or the enzymes) these will build better conditions for eliminations.
-
(Q) For correction of kidney difficulty? (A) The vibrations through that created in body, as built from one, discharged in the other. This will build a better balance.
-
(Q) Is there any help indicated for right eye? (A) These are the better, as we find.
-
(Q) Are there any suggestions about management of daily schedule so that the entity could keep up strength in better shape? (A) As has just been indicated; so many hours - there are only twenty-four - you can’t make more. Do divide them consistently. Would you have others consistent? Practice it thyself.
-
(Q) Is it well to carry out present plan to go to New York to see publishers? (A) Pretty stiff trip, but it may be done, if you’ll pack your little box along with you and use it an hour each day! And do pray and do listen. Thirty minutes of prayer, thirty minutes of listening to God’s answer to thy prayer.
-
(Q) Any suggestions about finishing and releasing the new book, LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU? (A) This will be much better if it will be prepared to come next March, than before that time.
-
(Q) For the next book, which of the following would be best? A. Another of the present series, such as LET’S TALK ABOUT LIFE or LET’S TALK ABOUT HOME. B. Or a book about adolescents for parents. C. Or a novel? (A) LET’S TALK ABOUT LIFE - and don’t forget what life is - don’t leave that out.
-
(Q) Would it be well to publish a serious article about the contributions of this information to the theory of reincarnation? (A) Better forget it for the present.
-
(Q) What work can I be doing for the Association? (A) Leave that as it be, and as it comes to thee from period to period, as is needed for help to the more.
-
(Q) How can I help my son [3188] with his work for the Association? (A) This is soon to be discontinued. By his choice, though. [GD’s note: Mr. [3188] did discontinue his work with the A.R.E. around the first of July, 1944, and it was by his own choice.]
-
(Q) Will the proposed seminar in Trabuco be a means of strengthening my own spiritual life? (A) It will be a means to an end. What end? Of determining in self the definite things to be done.
-
(Q) Would it be mutually advantageous for Gerald Heard to meet Mr. Cayce? (A) Not especially - who is he?
-
(Q) Any further suggestions or counsel? (A) Keep that as has been given - especially as considering self’s keeping in balance.
-
We are through.

R2. 6/30/44 [2946]‘s letter:
This is a business question for Gladys if she ever has time. After chasing all over this city I finally got the new ventriculin today. According to the bottle the average dose is 1 U.S.P. unit of forty grams which is four heaping tablespoonfuls. That means only two and one-half doses to a bottle. Mrs. [264] told me she took one teaspoonful per day. My reading did not mention the dose. I wonder if Gladys can shed any light. My address next week will be …
I’m terribly grateful for the check-up. Would you please just transfer the twenty-dollar check I sent for Dr. […] to cover this reading? We will send another check for him before next April - Every day I wheedle some bar out of a little ice and cook on the radio-active affair. Thanks SO MUCH.
With love to you all, and deep appreciation.
R3. 7/5/44 EC’s letter:
Very often, Mrs. [2946], the information has differed entirely with what the manufacturers suggest as doses of compounds that have been put on the market. I don’t know whether it gave you just how much to take, or not. But I know from our own experience that a heaping teaspoonful of Ventriculin should be a sufficient dose. It was what was given to the first, second, third and fourth person I know. Mrs. [264] was the first one it was given to even before it was put on the market.
Thanks a lot and do write us when you have the opportunity. Don’t be too gentle, or too kind. We have our faults. We know some of them, but it is an error of the head and not of the heart.
With love to you and all of yours, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/wi
R4. 7/22/44 [2946]‘s letter:
I, too, looked over the Congress as critically as possible hoping to turn up profitable ideas for next year. One who has attended only two Congresses hesitates to express an opinion. But if I’m any use at all I have to use such judgement as I have and you can scan my reactions for possible help and discard everything which does not fit.
It seems to me that your Congress is something distinct from other conferences of a religious nature. You have direct access to the Father’s leading just as any conference leader hopes to have; I mean the access through prayer and meditation. But then you also have this extra-sensory pathway which no one else I know of can offer. You are bound to draw an increasing number of persons interested in religious living because they will want all the kinds of help available. But you will also have persons with scientific interest - doctors, psychologists, persons with problems to work out under the direction of the readings. This group may or may not be religious; many of them are not. Then there is a third group of those interested in astrology, theosophy and escatological problems. Altogether your group lacks the homogeneity that one expects in an average conference. And that difference makes it more difficult to plan a profitable week’s study.
One thing I feel is profitable to everyone and that is your talks. All who come, whether or not they realize they have religious interest, are interested in you and in whatever you consider to be the source of your power. Therefore it seems to me you should talk to the entire group at some time during the first day, preferably that first evening. Each person needs to oriented to you and to your background. Each one needs to feel personally acquainted with you. This year I felt we should have had more of you. Some persons went away without knowing what you felt the work of the Association to be and without feeling a place for themselves to fit in. To be sure, different ones told them in a general way but I think a strong talk by you on the first night would be a great help.
[Marginalia:] Seem to me you should speak once each day if you possibly can.
It also seemed to me that the complete purpose of the Association should be made plain early in the week. So many of those present had no understanding of the Association itself. Maybe a couple paragraphs from the constitution could be read and elaborated. But in order to make the Association plain and clear to others I think you have to decide in your own mind what parts of the plan expressed in the constitution merit your approval. You can’t get across anything you don’t agree to yourself.
Not only is the group likely to become larger but you may have an increasing number of thoughtful persons - on the order of Mr. Johnson. If so, the others who have a part on the program with you should be better people. Charm isn’t enough! For instance that very pretty young woman from Philadelphia - I cannot recall her name at the moment but she is a member of the Board. She gave a long talk with charts - remember? Well, that material came out of a book which many present had read and knew quite as much about as she did. That sort of lecture could be given by someone who has already made a place in the field and not by an amateur. For a small group of beginners, her talk would make a pleasant evening. But it was too involved for a mixed group many of whom had no background and many of whom had much more background than she. It takes more than a chart to make a clear talk. I just wonder what Hugh Lynn would think of getting someone really good in that field to make two or three talks. It seems to me that what you yourself have and do is so good that you do yourself and the Association an injustice to use anything but the best in each phase of the work.
There are people who know the general field of extra-sensory perception. In fact there are half a dozen books which would make corking book reviews in the hands of capable people. It seems too bad to have the best demonstration in the country right there and not to have some advanced and authoritative data available.
If the crowd is going to grow, then it seemed to me we ought to plan to have more persons definitely assigned to make them feel at home, to explain the source material available, to talk over problems. Harmon covered quite a bit of territory in getting acquainted but he was a newcomer himself. I spent as much time as possible at the Essex House but I wish now I had stayed there because several fine people had personal problems and questions about the Association which someone should have been on hand to answer. It seems to me the literature table should have someone always in charge, ready to answer questions.
A good many people mentioned the absence of music. Maybe you recall that a year ago there was a little group singing. I believe the Seays felt that was a move in the right direction. We could have a good deal of group singing. Nothing brings a group into one accord so surely and so rapidly. I’m sorry now that we didn’t get the little piano when Mr. Seay suggested it; we could have put it in an office and used it. Or someone like Harmon, who can make the chairs want to sing, could do very well without an instrument. It will be easier with a larger room but even in the present quarters a lot could be done with group singing.
Miss Wynn was swell; everyone mentioned her appreciatively. So was Miss Edmonds. The planned devotionals are a help all the way down the line. There will always be grand persons like those two to fill in and make a highly interesting program. But two or three very good people in some special line would add a lot of content.
Oh, well, we should worry. When Hugh Lynn comes back all will be well. And maybe Tom Sugrue can be there next year also. I am exceedingly eager to meet him. If I had known he was chairman of publications I’d have had a lighter heart all the time. About my largest hope for the Association, apart form your own good health and Hugh Lynn’s return, is the desire to see the publications really put into his hands. I just don’t think he would have let that Essenes pamphlet, for instance, see the light of print without some better documentation. [GD’s note: See her letter 2/22/44 in 2946-5 Reports, praising the same pamphlet.] Unfortunately there are better things already in print on the Essenes and it seems as if whatever comes out of the Association should be as good as the best.
Publications are one thing I should like to have talked with you about while I was there. But you were too busy for it. There are a few first rate things on the publication list. One book Hugh Lynn did, for instance, and the new one which Harmon did on the physical readings. But there is also a lot of poor stuff which gives an unfair picture of you and of your work. I recall the arthritis pamphlet, for example. What is there is good but the way it is put together makes it sound like a patent medicine ad. The files are full of stunning material on arthritis which could be added, at least some of it, and a first rate pamphlet turned out. Something really useful to doctors and laymen alike. If there is a publications committee I do indeed wish they could spread out the entire list of published material and decide what is worth keeping and what could well be scraped and then go on from there. Under Mr. Sugrue’s direction there are several of us who could lend a hand and turn out material you would be proud of. He could keep the content material up to grade, do the editing, and direct the kind of printing.
Oh, dear, I know that you are the truly important factor and in a sense nothing else matters. But the readings themselves have suggested a degree of research and publication, and even suggested Mr. Sugrue to supervise, and a well planned program would make the work AND YOU available to so many more people.
R5. 8/1/44 [2946]‘s letter:
Do I ever have a time getting ventriculin! Even an order direct to Park Davis has not brought results yet. Dozens of drug stores do not carry it. It seems that Park Davis got out another concoction called VENTREX which is also made of powdered pigs’ stomach but put up in capsule form and most doctors are now using that. Lily’s also put up the same thing in capsule form. Have the readings ever suggested VENTREX? If someone should be told to take ventriculin in the near future do you suppose Mrs. Cayce could ask if ventrex would be a good substitute in case ventriculin cannot be had? I want to follow the directions literally but sometimes a fellow seems up a stump. This is not an important question to have on your mind but it might be held in the back of your mind. I use the little ice machine affair daily and treasure that hour’s meditation especially. Once the points of the two attachments touched for an instant; do you think that will do any damage? I try to handle it as if it were made of gold.
It’s a temptation to chat on but I have 30 pounds of cherries to put up this morning. Wish you were here to lend your expert advice!… Tell Miss Wynne to put a note in the next WEEK’S READINGS about how you are.
Love to you all,
R6. 8/14/44 EC’s letter:
I am surprised to know that you have had a hard time getting ventriculin, but I suppose that all of those things change about. And if Park Davis is now making Ventrex to take the place of ventriculin, I don’t think there would be anything out of the way for you to use that and if it is in capsule form, it makes it a much easier form than in the crystals or in such large grains that it has to be dissolved. We will be glad to keep that in mind and ask the question should we be able to undertake it, but as yet I haven’t done anything now for practically three weeks. The way I feel this morning it might be three weeks more. Though the way the people are begging I may try again tomorrow.
All the rest here are doing very well. Though it isn’t any too well to have so many telling me what I ought to do.
I expect it would be real good for me to have thirty pounds of cherries to put up. I think that if I could do something else besides worry about trying to get in appointments for people again it would help. I haven’t undertaken to put up anything though I have lots of peaches and grapes, but there is nothing I can do about it right now.
Thanks a lot for letting us hear form you. Remember us to [5070] and [3188], and all the rest who would care to hear from us.
Lots of love from everyone, Edgar
R7. 8/14/44 [2946]‘s letter:
The other night I wondered if you’d had any other reading which suggested taking enzymes instead of stilbestrol. Dr. Musselman is much interested in the reading you gave me because you said stilbestrol was no help and that is the classic medicine these days for trouble such as I’ve had. We wonder if any direct enzyme has been mentioned. I am taking ventriculin which contains enzymes from the stomach, no doubt. Also you said a fairly large dose of Vitamin E would be useful. We wonder if the readings have ever mentioned what E preparation to use and how large a dose. don’t take time to write a letter but if there is any additional information we’d love to have a copy of it.
Hope the summer weather has not mowed you down - and that Mrs. Cayce is getting along well. She surely did need rest after that Congress. Seems a long time since we have had any Cayce news - but I don’t want you to use your energy to write it, either.
A great deal of love to you all,
R8. 8/18/44 EC’s letter:
Dear Mrs. [2946]:
I have yours of the 14th, enclosing the letter from Mrs. Ellis, of Los Angeles. It may be just as well that this has been delayed so long, as it seems we are disappointing so may people - I wonder?
We haven’t gotten back to work, as yet. I wish I could have been there, if the fishing was any good. Maybe such a rest as that is what I need - or maybe I just need to be knocked on the head and laid on a shelf a while. Anyway, it sounds mighty good to a fellow who likes to fish as I do.
That conference sounds very interesting. I hope it works out all right, and isn’t too much of a hardship for you.
We have quite a number of readings where enzymes have been indicated instead of stilbestrol - if we could just get them together. I don’t know anything about either one of them. don’t even know what they are! Why the information seems to take an aversion to some compounds, I don’t know; and why it picks up some and gives them to people for a few weeks or months and then never mentions them any more, I don’t understand. Usually, when we ask why, something has been changed in the formula, or is not as good as it was, or something equally as confusing. We realize that we know so blooming little.
How is [3188]? I haven’t heard anything more from him. I made a suggestion to him, but I don’t know whether he thought I was crazy, or whatnot. Tell him I would like to hear form him, when you see or hear form him again.
We are all still keeping fairly busy, even though we are not doing anything except trying to write to people and make excuses for our own weaknesses, etc.
Thanks a lot, though, and with love from everyone.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:gp
R9. 12/21/44 [2946]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Today right in the midst of a prayer I had an amusing thought and laughed right out. I was wondering if you can tell when people are praying for you and I thought how interesting it would be if every effective prayer literally rang a bell. The thing which made me laugh was thinking what a riot of sound you would live in! I just wonder if any man in America has more heartfelt prayer arising in his behalf. No doubt more people SAY a prayer for the president of the United States but those who pray for you do so with all their heart.
We have treasured every word from Gladys about you. It is good to know you are home. The trip was difficult I’m sure and the going will be slow. But it’s a higher hill to climb than any you’ve ever climbed before and from the height you will be able to see a long way across the path of the stars. To be a seer - a literal see-er - is a great calling. I have a deep thrill thinking of you and of the insight which must be rising within you these hard days.
For two weeks I’ve combed the town to find some little thing which would give you and Mrs. Cayce joy. A book is always my first choice but I wonder where you would get time to read. A good apple comes a close second - especially along with the book - but goodness knows what kind of diet you may be on. Finally today I gave up and am enclosing a very small check which I hope you will spend for some little thing you will both enjoy. […], I know, would run buy himself a new record. And […] would get a new hammer. But you may want a few fish hooks. We shall be thinking of you on Christmas Day. It is hard to make merry but a high and holy joy is possible for us all. I just have to think what the darkness would now be if Jesus had never come and shown us his Father’s will made manifest among us, to know how great our Light really is.
As the newscasts pour in with their tale of carnage and disaster it sometimes seems as if we cannot stand one more night of it. And then again I feel that we have to go on - a good deal as a poor little chick has to go on straining his way out of the shell which shuts him from a larger measure of reality. Isn’t it Buddha who says, “I bring you sorrow and the ending of sorrow”? Through sorrow to peace and understanding. I hope the star’s own message will fill your heart during these next days.
R10. 4/6/77 GD’s note: Mrs. [2946], according to report of her granddaughter, oldest daughter of son [3188], died in February 1977, after an illness since September 1976 when she discovered she had cancer of the intestines and liver. [Surgery was not performed - sewed her back up.] Her passing was easy and she suffered less than would be expected with an illness of that nature.
