This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of April, 1943, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [3339], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. William S. Sloane.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2963].

3. In giving that as we find which will be helpful or beneficial to this body, much must be interpreted not only from the pathological angle as to sources or causes of the condition but in the light of the anatomy, the chemistry, the physics of the body structure and activity, as well as the psychological effect of reflexes and their activity upon the chemistry, the physics and the anatomy of the body.

4. For, as we find, these disturbances are the effect - or results - of the chemical unbalance produced in the structural portions and reflexes of the body during the prenatal period, or through the period of gestation.

5. Some of these, however, in their greater reflexes, did not begin to give full manifestations in their reactions until there were the needs of the coordination between the cerebrospinal system and the sympathetic system - in their junctures, or areas from which impulses psychologically are received.

6. As we find, starting the applications we suggest, just before there is the beginning of the second cycle of activity of the glandular force, as each functioning of the cellular reactions begins, we may slowly build the reactions that may bring to the body-force the ability of the body to at least more than care for itself, and to become near normal in its reactions.

7. This will require persistence and consistence on the part of those not only who give the suggestions for corrective measures from the purely pathological reactions, but those around the body who are in sympathy with that attempting to be accomplished and who will give the correct and positive, yet loving assistance to the body in all of its reflexes.

8. We find that as yet there are not brain lesions such that may not be removed by stimuli of those properties that go to make up nerve and brain tissue itself, and by keeping coordination in the centers along the cerebrospinal system where there are the junctures with the sympathetic system - that supply the varied activities to the organs of the sensory system, - as the auditory and optic reactions, the vocal box, and the impulses that arise by a reflex of vision, of speech, of sound, of color, of those things that go to make up the normal reflexes to appetites and reactions in the body.

9. Thus, we find that the administration of chemical forces hypodermatically or internally would not be the manner in which these may be made to become a part of the resuscitating forces to the body itself. But these must be given vibratorially.

10. And it is indicated that as progress is made it may be necessary to change these.

11. But if there is consistency, if there is persistency on the part of those administering, and in the manner of the administering, we should see decided changes within the first six months, - though it may have been necessary during that period to have changed the manner, once or twice, of the administrations.

12. Understand, though, there must first be the choice made by those responsible for this body, as to whether these administrations we would suggest are to be acceptable, or whether those that have been and are being given are to be continued. The choice must be made there.

13. Then, if the choice is to follow these suggestions:

14. Begin with the daily use of the low Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold, vibratorially, into the body; the proportions being one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of distilled or rain water - and use at least three and one-half ounces of the solution.

15. If practical, have the container for the charging solution made of rubberoid or glass (though glass, with the changes, would be apt to crack; and a crock, for this strength, would not be so well, and a metal container may not be used).

16. The charging solution would be in this strength, for this particular body, - in the gallon and a half of distilled water; dissolving each ingredient before adding the others:

Copper Sulfate…2 1/4 pounds, Sulfuric Acid C.P…1 1/2 ounces, Zinc…3 drams.

Leave out the Willow Charcoal - do not use it in this charge.

17. In thirty days change the charging solution, or renew it every thirty days.

18. Every fifteen days change the Gold Solution.

19. As to the poles, - use one nickel and one copper. The anodes should be one nickel and one copper, but let the small copper plate that is attached to the body be attached to the nickel pole that enters the charging solution, and the nickel plate attached to the body be the one through which the Gold Solution would pass vibratorially to the body.

20. Attachments would be made as follows, for thirty minutes each day:

21. The larger plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially, would be attached each time to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus - or to that area where there is the greater center of the lacteals, where food as it is digested enters the jejunum - or at the mouth of the duodenum.

22. The copper plate would be attached one day to the 9th dorsal, the next day to the brachial center - or the 2nd dorsal, and the next day to the lumbar axis; then back to the 9th dorsal the next day, then to the brachial the next, then to the 2nd dorsal the next, and so on.

23. Each day following the Appliance, have a gentle massage over the entire body with Peanut Oil, but especially on the cerebrospinal system - from the head, or back of neck, at the 1st cervical, massage gently in a rotary motion, on either side of the spine and then down the spine, to the 9th dorsal. Then begin at the coccyx end of spine and go upward to the 9th dorsal; then over the chest, across the abdomen, especially at the diaphragm area, through the lower abdomen, and especially over the caecum area and on the opposite side, and then the limbs. All circular motions.

24. Take at least thirty minutes or more to give this massage, and not as something just to be gotten through. But use this period as a period of interpreting those reactions of the body-mind, or the purposes, the hopes of the ability of speech, of the ability of reactions to those various sources, or various things, see? This will require patience on the part of the nurse, but the one in hand is good - if she will accept these activities and do them.

25. As to the foods, - keep a normal, balanced diet; not an oversupply of any particular vitamins, but plenty of the whole grains, plenty of the iodine-producing or iodine-giving foods - as fish; also fowl, as well as carrots. Especially have beets, particularly those that are fresh and young. And do train the body to eat the beet tops as well as the young beets themselves. Cook them in their own juices. Use Patapar Paper for cooking, and mix the juices with the vegetables when they are eaten.

26. These, of course, are not all the foods that may be taken, but these should be often included; changing them in the manner of preparation so they do not become obnoxious to the body.

27. Whenever practical, use fresh foods rather than those that have been prepared.

28. Keep these up; and in sixty days we would give further instructions.

29. Ready for questions.

30. (Q) Has he any fundamental brain defect? (A) As indicated, there are some lesions; but if these are taken now, and there is the addition of those properties vibratorially to the body, and the massage is kept consistently, we should overcome these conditions.

31. (Q) What would you advise about his schooling? (A) When it is the time (and it will be nearly a year now, or more), we will find such a difference that then it may be considered as to just how or what to do.

32. (Q) Would a Life Reading be beneficial? (A) A little later, when there are the improvements as we find that will come, a Life Reading will be helpful to the parents AND the entity, after it has reached its twelfth to fourteenth year.

33. (Q) Is there anything else we can do at home for him? (A) All of this should be at home, but under the care of the nurse - at all times.

34. (Q) Is it indicated that he will ever be able to take his normal place in society? (A) This depends upon the reactions, the consistency with which, and the manner in which these administrations are made.

R1. 4/21/43 (Wednesday) Father [3339]‘s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Firstly let me tell you how thrilled we were to receive the reading on our little boy, and almost immediately decided to make our choice and follow your suggestions and have already stopped his previous treatments and medicine.

I am sorry if I disturbed you when I phoned last Saturday morning but I am certain you understand. Your remark about this being one of your most interesting readings was very exciting and would like to know if in your opinion that has any special significance.

I have today sent my check and your instructions to Mr. A. M. Godfrey and help he can give it his immediate attention. If you could have this followed up for me, it would be so very much appreciated.

I had the extreme pleasure of spending several hours with your dear friends Mr. & Mrs. David Kahn at their home in Scarsdale this last Sunday. Mr. Kahn has asked me to write this letter to you explaining these incidences.

Last Wednesday, as you suggested, Mrs. […] and I spent the best part of the morning in prayer and meditation. I was reading out of a Union (Jewish) prayer book and the little boy’s nurse, mentioned in your reading, gave Mrs. […] three little pamphlets called “The Home Altar.” These are little booklets, issued I suppose by her church, she is not of our faith; Mrs. […] opened up one of these booklets and lo and behold her eyes fell on a lesson dated Wednesday, called the Church of Christ “THERE IS A RIVER, the streams whereof make glad the city of God.”

I am certain this has some meaning. And how do you suppose I reached your good friend Mr. Kahn? Mrs. […] happened to mention to just ONE person, a very dear friend of ours, a Mrs. […] that we had written to you. She informed us she knew him and remembering he was mentioned in your book, we decided to phone him. He only lives a few miles from us. I did so, and Mr. Kahn invited us to his home.

Never have I met two such lovely and sincere people as Mr. & Mrs. Kahn. And they have been so very helpful. They are arranging for us to meet a Dr. McLain [McLean, T. R., D.O.] I believe who will show our nurse the proper way to begin the suggested treatments. So that when the battery arrives, not a moment will be lost. I am certain our steps were directed there.

Mr. Kahn mentioned I might ask you regarding the possibility of having a reading concerning my self. My business is quite involved and I have many problems. But I realize how busy you are. If you feel you could possibly give me some time in the near future, I would be glad to hear from you and make the necessary arrangements.

R2. 5/4/43 William Sloane’s letter:

Dear Mr. [3339]:

I have read the reading which Edgar Cayce has given you on your son. It is a very obviously sincere and careful reading, and I am impressed with the absence of any tone of either undue optimism or false pessimism. Were I in your position I should most certainly follow the advice given in this reading. Unless you told Mr. Cayce in your letter to him more than you were planning to do when we talked together, it is evident that the reading substantiates your own belief as to the original cause of the condition which your son has. It seems to me that this indication by the reading is a pretty strong piece of confirmatory evidence. I don’t see how the treatments can possibly do the least harm. It sounds to me more than probable that they will do good. Mr. Cayce’s offer of a check reading is obviously one to be followed up closely. I will personally be very much interested to hear what the progress of the boy under this treatment may be, and I commend your courage in abandoning the other treatments and the initiation of these. At least it seems to me you can now feel that you are in touch with someone who at least claims to know the basis for the condition and has given you a method of attacking it which may work out ultimately to a reasonably complete cure of it.

I am sending along for the youngster a couple of little books which I hope you will enjoy. The only further thought that occurs to me is that when you come to secure a reading about the child’s schooling you make special inquiry about the matter of music and singing, which you say he is so well able to do.

My Dear Mr. Cayce, For the last three weeks, we have been following out to the best of our ability the reading you so kindly gave to my son, [2963].

Mr. and Mrs. Kahn have suggested I get a check reading and this also were mentioned in your reading.

So, would you please take care of this for me, so that we can feel we are dong the proper things.

Mr. & Mrs. Kahn are having dinner at my home on the evening of June 5 and if you could have given this check reading before that, it would be so much appreciated and we would like to discuss it then.

We are putting our entire reliance in you, Mr. Cayce. I know it is the right thing to do. And I know you won’t fail us.

As regards my personal Life reading [See 3339-1], as and when you give me the time, I will be glad to accept same.

If you wish to wire or phone me regarding the boys check reading with reference to having him in his room at any certain time, be sure to do so COLLECT. I can be reached at …, my office during the day or a wire will of course reach us at home, … Ave., …, N.Y.

B1. 4/1/43 Father’s letter: “This morning I had quite a conversation with Mr. Wm. Sloane, of Henry Holt & Co., who I believe has written to you concerning my problem and has been kind enough to permit me to mention his name.

“I have just finished reading your book. All I can say about it is that it is inspiring and has given me a great deal of hope.

“I have a sweet little boy, named [2963] - we call him Buddy,

“He has a sister, one year older, who we consider outstanding and naturally the little boy suffers by comparison.

“He has been quite backward, does not seem to be able to catch on, and has had quite a few severe illnesses. We have had him visit so many, many doctors, all supposed outstanding, that I can’t recall all their names.

“Since he has been one year old, I can honestly say his mother and I have not had a single moment free from worry about him, and I believe it has contributed to his mother’s illness.

“I cannot explain why, but I have a definite faith that you can help us, which of course is the purpose of this letter.

“We have just again changed doctors, after staying with the last one for about two years, and hope we have not made a mistake.
