This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of June, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [3051], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2982] and the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born January 15, 1898 in Paterson, New Jersey. Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, New York.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3051].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, there is much from which to choose. These we would give with the intent and purpose that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfil those purposes for which it entered this sojourn.

5. No soul enters by chance, but that it may fill that it has sought and does seek as its ideal.

6. Hence, as may be the first injunction to this entity: Do not too oft accept what others say, UNLESS it answers to a something deep within self.

7. Do not, then, merely have a verbal or vocal ideal. Do write what is thy ideal. Begin with that under these three headings: Spiritual, Mental, Material. And write what is thine own ideal. As ye may find, these may change from time to time. For, each soul grows in grace, in knowledge, in understanding. Just as the awareness, the unfoldments come to the self AS the entity applies that it has chosen and does choose from day to day.

8. And ye will find, this will enable thee to find: That ye choose as thy spiritual ideal must be able to answer for EVERY disturbance, for every hope, for every desire as of a spiritual nature.

9. Then, as ye meditate upon same, in the mind, ye may find same manifested in thy material experiences; whether this be in the assurances sought as to thy judgment, or in that to enable thee to choose thy activity, or as to the attitude or the activity ye would apply in thy dealings with others.

10. Know that these are a few of the immutable, unchangeable laws:

11. Seek and ye shall find; ask and it will be given thee - IF ye have chosen aright.

12. The manner in which ye treat thy fellow man is the manner ye are treating thy ideal.

13. All of the divine ye may know in the material plane ye CAN, ye MUST, manifest in thy dealings with thy fellow man.

14. Jealousy, malice, hate, backbiting are not the fruits of the spirit of truth. That which IS of the spirit of truth is manifested in patience, love, fellowship, kindness. These cost nothing, yet make returns in dividends in peace.

15. Remember, ye pursue peace, ye embrace peace, ye hold to peace. It is not something that descends upon thee, save as ye HAVE created and do create it in the hearts, in the minds, in the experiences of others.

16. What ye sow, ye must reap. God is not mocked.

17. These are unchangeable.

18. As for the urges latent and manifested in this entity, we find these are tending towards some confusion, because the entity is close to a period - in astrological aspects - of indecision.

19. Thus the injunction to the entity, DO inscribe and know thy ideal, the source of thy hope, the source of thy fears, the source of thy love, the source of that which brings and creates faith in the experience of the entity.

20. What is faith? Evidence!

21. What is evidence? Assurance!

22. For, His promises have been, “If ye love me ye will keep my commandments. If ye seek, ye shall find. For, behold I stand at the door of thy heart, of thy mind, of thy consciousness, and knock. If ye will open, I will enter - and abide with thee.”

23. No greater promise, no surer promise, can be made. For He demonstrated that He can fulfil ALL He promised. For as given of old, in Him is the light and He is the light of the world. Without Him there was not anything made that was made.

24. And understand, this includes the opposites as well as the positives. But He overcame. And as He warned, “Offences exist - they are in the world. And ye may be offended. And others may offend thee, but be faithful - I have overcome the world, and ye, abiding in me, may overcome the world also.”

25. What can be more beautiful than the promise of God’s presence abiding with thee?

26. Those assurances then should be, will be, as ye seek Him, a part of thy experience. Keep them as such. Not as that to be boasted of, but to use. As ye would be love, love one another. As ye would have patience, have it in one another. As ye desire thy Maker, desire of Him also.

27. In the close associations of the entity to the cusps, in its entrance, there is the tendency or inclination for confusion, but this may be put aside. Let it be as though it were not.

28. We find in Mercury the high mental abilities.

29. In Jupiter we find the benevolent, and the beautiful experiences that may be the entity’s.

30. We find in Venus a love of beauty, a love of harmony, and yet it is as a distant thing apart at times. This may be altered. There is the love of music, and those abilities for the entity to better contribute to the activities by its presence and by its own sincerity.

31. Have ye asked thyself lately “How sincere am I?” Ye may answer only in Him.

32. In Uranus we find the extremes, as well as the interest in the occult, the mysterious. Do not TRY too hard, for when we try hard we become too conscious of self - and it is selflessness we are to attain, even as He, who thought it not robbery to make Himself equal with God, but EVER recognized “Of myself I can do nothing - only as the spirit of truth, of God, works in and through me may that be accomplished that is pleasing in His sight.”

33. Be JOYOUS in thy love of others, as of thy Maker.

34. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, we find that these have varied considerable. While all may not be given, these are those that influence the entity in the present, that are a part of the present experience:

35. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during the early settlings in the land.

36. The entity was among those peoples who were engaged in fur trading, and those preparations of products of the soil. These were abhorrent, as we will see why, to the entity, for the time being. But when it attuned its purposes to those things that the physical activities and associations brought, the entity then gained - through its abilities to contribute to the social and the spiritual welfare of many groups.

37. Hence we find the entity a good social entertainer, and yet these activities cause judgments at times within self. However, these bring opportunities, as they did through those experiences, - as Florence Suterworth.

38. It may be said that the entity gained through that period, and yet it is from that sojourn that we find some of the confusion arising at times in the present. But as indicated, when ye have set thyself in Him ye, too, may say “I have overcome the world,” the world of indecision, of doubt, or the world of fear.

39. Replace fear ever with love, and ye will find, as He gave, a new commandment, a new life, a new experience opens for thee - in that ye love one another.

40. Before that the entity was in the Promised Land, during those periods when there were persecutions, those activities that brought about disturbances among many peoples.

41. There the entity was associated in those activities in the church at Laodicea, when there were those disputations with Paul and Lucius, the questionings of Peter and Andrew and Bartholomew. All of these were a part of the entity’s experience, in which it was torn, as it were, between two opinions. And later, when there were those reestablishings of the activities with Lucius as the elder, the minister, those overtures were made that brought the entity to that interpreting of the activities according to the CHRIST-Consciousness, rather than as to an individual man. These brought harmony and peace, and the entity in the latter part of that sojourn was a deaconess in the church at Laodicea.

42. Before that the entity was in Greece when there were those individual groups chosen for the activities in the “city in the hills and the plains.”

43. The entity was among those that came into the Persian or Arabian land, or the “city in the hills and plains,” to undermine the activities there, but soon the entity joined rather with the leader than in making confusion - which had been the purpose for its entering.

44. The entity became identified with those activities in the aiding of the hospitalization, as it would be termed today, but rather a teacher, or one of those that gave more of the spiritual enlightenment to those of the various faiths and groups that sojourned there.

45. The name then was Excelu, - BEAUTIFUL in body, beautiful in purpose were the entity’s activities; joining among those at the very first with the activities in that experience.

46. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there were the turmoils and the strifes that brought those divisions, and that brought about the banishment of the Priest.

47. The entity was among those that chose to go as a helper to those so banished. During the period of those banishments the entity joined with some of those that the entity aided in converting in the new land, and returned with those activities in the Egyptian experience; growing to be among the helpers in the services of the Temple of Sacrifice and of the Temple Beautiful. These the entity interpreted aright, even beyond some of the tenets of the Priest in the experience; joining with those that were of the Atlantean groups, - then in the name It-Or-La.

48. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:

49. How?

50. As has been indicated. Do not trust it to the mind, for - as may be indicated by the seal of this entity - there are the three phases of human experience in the earth, - spiritual, mental, material.

51. The seal would be as a book, open - with the words Holy - Holy - written across the top; these divided, and with the lines indicating the three phases. The background of this would be indicated by the Cross and the Sword of the Cross; not the sword of man. For the sword of the Cross is the two-edged sword, that divideth the joint and the marrow, or that cuts both ways. And under these, between that and the top of the book, put “I believe.”

52. These would indicate to the entity that the tenets, the truths, and most of all the ideals, MUST be set. All of this, in color, will be a reminder to the entity.

53. In the abilities, - keep the faith; and ye will aid, not so much as a teacher as a practiser - as one that may help the helpers of the Lord. For, who is greatest among you? He that serveth the better.

55. (Q) What was the date of my last incarnation? (A) During those periods of the early settlings in the land, in 1606.

56. (Q) Have I always incarnated as a woman? (A) No. Only those as women have been given, but you’ve been a man.

57. (Q) Was there a spiritual cause for the accident to my right hand, or was it purely an accident? Is it possible to rectify it? (A) It was purely an accident; not a spiritual cause. If ye give it power over thee, it may not be rectified - that is, by holding to any thought of payment. But it will be strengthened considerably if there will be applied an equal combination of Oil of Cedar Wood (not O’Cedar Oil, but Oil of Cedar Wood) and Red Wine. Shake these together and massage around the wrist and hand, daily.

58. (Q) What is the object of my present incarnation? (A) PATIENCE, my dear! Patience! with self, first, and then with those problems that arise constantly; knowing, He abideth with thee, ever.

59. (Q) For what purpose did I choose to incarnate through present family? (A) These have their ties. These have their problems. These are necessary then, as a complement one to the other - especially the mother.

60. (Q) Should I continue with present teacher [3530] in N.Y. for greatest spiritual development? (A) These must be choices of self. But know, as the lawgiver gave, Think not who will descend from heaven to bring thee a message, or who will come from over the sea that ye might hear and know, for Lo, He is within thine own heart. Study that portion of Holy Writ, then (30th of Deuteronomy), and then apply that studied there in the light of those promises in the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of John. Let them be as to thee, and let HIM who giveth that direct thee.

61. (Q) What are my talents? (A) In aiding others to assist themselves.

62. (Q) How may I accomplish the greater balance? (A) This has been given from the first.

R1. 7/4/43 (Sunday) [3051]‘s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I wanted to write you so many times but remembering the flood of mail you receive and all that “we” put you thru during the convention I just held my horses and waited till I had a legitimate reason.

I finished my drops [See 3051-1] and since a dropper didn’t come in the bottle as they usually do, I hope I got the correct SIZE drop by using a tea spoon. I was very careful but the drop looked very small.

Friday I had my first treatment with Reilly. I enjoyed it very much, it was a cool day and I even wore a coat. I’ve written Gladys to find out when I should have my check so don’t forget me. I wouldn’t want to wait too long and find out we were on the wrong track up here.

My sisters are planning to run down to see you in the fall, they both need attention one way or another and I’m hoping you can straighten them out and make them happy.

How are you doing with your exercise and walks??? And where are you at two in the morning. I wake up at odd times, one thirty or after two, maybe two thirty and even four. However whether it is my physical condition or because I get up early to make breakfast for my husband at six thirty so he gets an early train to N.Y. I am tired to the point of confusion when I wake up at those times and rarely can do any mental work.

In my meditation I don’t seem able to leave the body, how do I go about this. Usually I try to find myself rising out of my body and drifting upward, up thru the house and on up over the trees till I find a very attractive fleecy cloud to rest on. then I try to look DOWN and see my body where I have tried to leave it, when I left. This I seem only to do in the imagination, not actually. How long will it take me to accomplish this and how should I go about it. It is easier to meditate when you are able to rise above mass thought.

[2982] never did get to find out what my aura was, she wanted to compare it with hers so if you can still remember or contact it long distance would you let me know?

I read my readings over every day or more, I hope I don’t wear them out. I’m also enjoying the book “A Search For God” and after that will get down to the business of writing down my ideals, it seems to be giving me trouble and I don’t know exactly why.

I wonder if you have any idea how much we miss you. We asked a million questions only to find we hadn’t asked really any. There is so much to know, and such a little time in which to know it.

Is there any chance of your coming to N.Y. this summer? I would like to have my husband know you, do let me know if you come.

Write me anything you think I ought to know or any advise [advice] as it will be greatly appreciated.
