This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by her sister-in-law, members of whose family had been helped by the readings.

Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, S.C.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - someone should have told her to keep the time.

3. We have the body here, [3071].

4. As we find, there are definite disturbances in the physical forces of this body.

5. In giving the full analysis of the condition, we find that this is part of the individual entity’s karma, as well as karma for those responsible for the entity. And these should be taken into consideration when there are administrations for the help that may come to the body.

6. Not that this is an impossible condition, but rather - as every karmic influence - there must be something done besides material things, not only about but for the body; that it may gain the fuller concept of that the activity of that force or influence called LIFE is in the material plane.

7. As is understood, this is caused from a brain lesion. While it is not the central portion of brain, it is sufficiently near such as to cause the disturbances with reflexes in the brain.

8. As we have indicated heretofore, there may be applied those elements to a body in such a manner as to rebuild or to overcome such conditions in a physical body; provided there is consistency not only in the material application but in the mental attitude and in the spiritual purpose of those responsible, or those that would respond to doing something for the body.

9. That others - as here - take hold to do something about it, that are not responsible - does not mitigate nor release those whose real responsibility it is.

10. Then, in making for the coordination in body in such a manner that this may be aided, - we find that while the cerebrospinal system as hindered, and the coordinating centers from brain through the system cause the flexes in areas where locomotion is hindered, this has to do with the sympathetic nervous system.

11. As indicated, this is not a scar, then, nor scar tissue in central portion, nor is it adhered to the cranium itself. It is well cushioned about, yet there needs to be the character of application that would not only tear down the scar tissue made but replenish or rebuild the nerve tissue itself in brain center.

12. This may be considered impossible, by some pathologists, or neurologists, or even some anatomists. Yet such has been done, and it may be done, in some instances.

13. This began from birth, and now is at the second cycle. Of course, unless the correction is done before the third cycle, or the proper elements added before that time, the condition may then not be changed. For it would become encased itself, again, within what may be called the third or fourth layer of scar tissue in the brain itself.

14. But the principal portion or elements needed in this particular body are Gold, Silver and Camphor. These are activative in nerve tissue.

15. Then, while it will require time, and patience, and a great deal of persistence on the part of those who would bring help or relief to the body, we find that changes may be brought about.

16. First, as indicated, it is necessary that there be faith in the divine. What is life itself? That influence or force one calls God, or nature. It is understood that each seven years is a cycle, and that the body is renewed in itself from its first plasmatic cell.

17. Now, the influences needed here are Gold, Silver and Camphor; Gold to the gray matter in nerve tissue itself; Silver in the cord of the white matter - that is the principal element or force or influence; Camphor as a healing agent - or that works with, or between, the two elements (in a vibratory force).

18. Then, for this body, - we would prepare the low Wet Cell Appliance, carrying into the body - vibratorially, and alternately - the properties of Gold, Silver and Camphor.

19. The Appliance should be charged with a comparatively strong reaction, using - in the gallon and a half of Rain or Distilled Water, at least:

Copper Sulphate…2 pounds, Sulfuric Acid C.P…1 1/2 ounces, Zinc…6 drams.

Little or no Charcoal need be in this solution, for this particular body. For the charge should be changed every twenty-eight days; not every thirty days but every twenty-eight days.

20. And every fourteen days make a new solution of the properties to be carried vibratorially into the system; that is, after each solution has been used fourteen times, renew the solution.

21. Attach the Appliance each day for thirty minutes, one day using the Gold, the next day the Silver, the next day the Camphor, and so on.

22. The Gold Solution should be in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of Distilled Water, and use at least three ounces of the solution.

23. The Silver Solution should be a two percent Nitrate of Silver solution, and this only in alcohol AND water as a two percent solution.

24. The Spirits of Camphor would be used commercial strength.

25. Each day the nickel plate, the large nickel plate, through which the solution passes vibratorially, (first day the Gold, second day the Silver, third day the Camphor, and so on), would be attached over the lacteal and umbilicus plexus, or - on the body - three fingers from the navel center to the right, directly.

26. When using the Gold Solution, the small copper plate would be attached to the 9th dorsal.

27. The next day when using the Silver Solution, attach the small Copper plate to the 2nd lumbar center.

28. The third day when using the Camphor, attach the copper plate to the 4th lumbar center.

29. Keep alternating these in this manner. Make the attachment for thirty minutes each day, but one day using the Gold, the next day the Silver, the next day the Camphor, in that order.

30. Use a separate container for each of these solutions. Also use a separate leaden wire, or separate top, for each of these.

31. Do take the connections from their containers when not in use.

32. Only connect these about twenty minutes before the attachments are to be made to the body.

33. Each day following the use of the Appliance, massage the body - gently but thoroughly - with Peanut Oil; especially at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th dorsal, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lumbar. These are the areas or centers from which we find the connections with the various portions of the body affected.

34. This massage is not to be given as something to be hurried through with, at any time, - whether it takes five years or seven years! But each day take the time, - patiently, prayerfully, - that it will perform in the body those elements and those attitudes, those conditions, as to correct the disturbances of the body.

35. And, if these are done, we will find that these will bring helpful forces for this body, [3071].

36. Ready for questions.

37. (Q) Is her present adolescent age increasing her trouble? (A) As indicated, this is a cycle of change. Not necessarily increasing, but making it more aggravating to the mind of the body.

38. (Q) Must we continue with the use of sedatives indefinitely? (A) Not necessary to continue the use of sedatives if these applications as indicated are consistently and regularly given. If there are the periods when there tends to be convulsions, use the sedatives - but after a period of six to twelve months these should be eliminated - that is, the sedatives.

39. (Q) Will there be a gradual change or none at all for some time? (A) If it takes seven years, it will require - certainly - a gradual change!

Do these things, and - remember - first the spiritual, then the mental, and the physical is secondary to the attitude of those about the body. But do it consistently, persistently, or DON’T begin it!

40. We are through for the present.

R1. 7/10/43 Letter from mother: “We - Mr. […] & I - were all very much interested in her rdg. and greatly encouraged that you think persistent treatment will help her. We have from her birth, done everything we knew of to help her, and are ready to devote 7 yrs. if necessary, to this treatment. She is enthusiastic to start & feels confident as we all do, that it will help her. She is reading ‘There is a River’ and finds it very interesting. Through a mistake, Mr. […] sent the check for the battery to you instead of to Mr. Godfrey, but I have sent him the direction sheets for preparing the Wet Cell.

“I do not know the locations on the body of the 9th dorsal - 2nd lumbar center & 4th lumbar center - can you give me these positions by description or a rough diagram of the body. Is the lacteal & umbilicus plexus - 3 fingers from the navel center to the RIGHT, ON THE BODY? Can you give me the areas for massage at the same time? Do you know where I can locate any peanut oil? My druggist has tried to get it and says the Govt. has taken over the supply. Is there any substitute I could use?

“I would be very grateful for the above information.”

R2. 7/13/43 Letter from EC: “Thank you for yours of the tenth. While I know that it will be a long, tiresome procedure to give the treatments to [3071] I can’t help, from experience with many other cases somewhat similar, but feel that you will be more than thoroughly paid for the time and work that this will require on your part, that you can do most of this yourself after having the places indicated pointed out to you by a good osteopath. So I would suggest to you as soon as possible you get the appliances (I have already ordered them from Mr. Godfrey) and he will send directions. I would go to a good osteopath. Show him the information and have him point out the specific places and centers for, doubtless, you will need him sometime a little later.

“After you have used this for three months, of course, changing the solutions as indicated, we will have a check-up to see how she is getting along.

“Thanking you and hoping that we may indeed be the means of a service.”

R3. Ck. Physical, preferably afternoon appt. or Saturday, for daughter [3071] who is in school. Not paid yet. Send Ck. physical blank.

R4. 3/6/44 Mother’s letter: “Our daughter, [3071] who suffers from spastic paralysis of the right arm and leg, has been receiving wet cell electric treatments followed by massage with peanut oil, daily, for six months.

“It is our impression that you would like to give her a check rdg. about this time. She is very anxious to have one and we would like to be sure that everything is progressing as you recommended.

“As she is in High School each school day until 2 P.M. - the reading would be more convenient during the afternoons or on Saturdays or Sundays. If this is not convenient we will make some other arrangement.

“[3071] is very enthusiastic about the treatments & I do not think we have missed more than two days & then because of illness.”

R5. 3/27/44 Mother’s letter: “Enclosed please find application and check for physical check rdg. for Sunday afternoon - April 23rd from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. - [3071] will be in the same north-west bedroom at … St.

“So far we have not noticed any great amount of improvement - the right hand is still unable to be of much assistance in her daily life & she is still troubled with queer feeling in her head - these are more prevalent just before menstruation but can take place at any time, apparently. [3071]‘s very much interested in the treatments - very faithful in carrying them out - in the last six months, since we started them, I think she has missed only two treatments - because of illness.

“Since you warned us that any improvements would be a question of years - we are not at all discouraged that there hasn’t been a marked progress in 6 months. From the check rdg. we were interested to know if our interpretation & application of your suggestions had been correct. Last summer we reduced the amount of phenobarbital from 1 gr. to 1/2 gr. & that has worked very well. She had one slight lapse of memory last fall - but less severe than previous attacks.

“Physically, [3071] seems in good health - has a good appetite & does good work in High School - she takes voice lessons & belongs to two Church Choirs - she feels that her right hand has a more normal appearance - that the knuckles are more pronounced.

“Do you think it advisable to have a check rdg. every year so that you may keep in touch with her progress?

“[3071] is eagerly anticipating the ck. rdg. & I hope you will be encouraged by your findings.”

1. How much longer will she be troubled with the dizzy feelings in her head.
2. Are there any exercises that would be beneficial to the development of the hand?
3. How can we prevent corns from forming on the side of her right foot where the shoe presses?

B1. 5/11/43 Aunt wrote EC asking for reading, not wanting [3071] to know about it fearing her hopes for improvement would [be] “perhaps dashed, and her whole mental outlook suffer from disappointment.”

B2. 5/15/43 EC replied advising that [3071] be told of the reading.

B3. 5/20/43 Mother wrote: “[3071] knows of the rdg. and is very much interested in it…she is a sweet child and makes the best of her handicap.”

B4. 6/6/43 History of case sent by mother: “Had a cerebral hemorrhage at birth and has had a spastic paralysis of the right arm and leg ever since. Achilles tendon was stretched in right heel at 5 yrs. of age. Nerve operation performed on right arm at 11 yrs. of age. The former was successful in allowing her to bring the heel to the ground in walking. The arm operation has not shown any helpful results. She walks with slight limp, but has very little use of the hand and arm, or very little sensation in them. Last year in 6 months time she had 2 fainting spells with no warning and several lapses of memory. Just a year ago we took her to Dr. Dandy, nationally known brain specialist at Johns Hopkins. He said there was nothing to do but give her sedatives to prevent the distressing symptoms. She has been taking phenobarbital daily and watching her digestion and elimination closely. She has had no more fainting spells nor actual lapses of memory, just funny feelings in her head, as she expresses it.”
