This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self through wife - […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by a radio review of the book, THERE IS A RIVER.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, New York.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3082].
-
As we find, in many respects conditions are very good. But the administrations that have been made for the reactions through the nerve center to the head, when the body has these convulsions, are gradually building a bad condition through the activity of the alimentary canal - as well as the reflexes in brain, to the activity of glands relating to the pineal.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find with this body:
-
In some time back there was an injury to the side of this body, in the right side below the liver, where a lesion has formed in the lacteal ducts - through a portion of duodenum and through the alimentary canal.
-
The lesions affect, especially, the emunctory and lymph centers that control these in the area just at the lower edge of breast bone.
-
When these reactions come - which are gradually builded as bursa, and then as a flow through the congested area - a contraction is caused to the center at the base of the brain, where the lymph and the sympathetic and cerebrospinal center activities enter the brain.
-
Thus we have loss of memory, as a reaction, and then a contraction of the muscular forces about the head and through the upper portion of body.
-
First a tremor is caused through the body. At the time a very cold spot may be found at the lacteal duct - the main lacteal duct center. Also there may be found then a cold spot at the hypogastric center.
-
Thus the contractions are caused, as there is the flow of this lymph through the congested area - or the creation of the bursa and the attempt to eliminate same through the system.
-
As we find, there should be the application of heat, followed by a gentle massage to these bursa, to break up the lesion in the lacteal duct center. This is about a hand’s breadth from the navel center to the right, and two fingers up on the body from that point, - that is, the congested area.
-
Of course, this has something to do with the lack of proper digestion, at times, and the over amount of food that is required at times.
-
Also the assimilations are being affected by the sedatives that are a part of the administrations in the present.
-
These may be materially aided, in the relaxings, through the means of a NEUROPATH who understands how to follow these nerves along the frontal portion of the body, as well as along the centers where cerebrospinal and sympathetic coordinate in the spinal area. This would be not so much on the spine itself as at those centers indicated, - the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical, 4th cervical, 1st, 2nd and 3rd dorsal, and the lumbar axis, and the coccyx center - especially on the right side of the coccyx areas. These areas relaxed, we should prevent these contractions occurring again in the body, - especially when the lesion is removed, or when the bursa are released - and kept released - in those areas indicated.
-
About every other day, then, we would first relax the body by applying wet heat, as from heavy toweling or the like wrung out of hot water and applied over these areas, until there is a thorough relaxing of the body - followed by the neuropathic massage, you see, as indicated. After the body is thoroughly relaxed, these applications may be made once a week, until those periods every two or three months, or three to four months apart, when these bursa fill.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes severe headaches and stomach ailment which follow and precede these attacks? (A) As indicated, it is the filling of those bursa, and then the pressures on the nerve system at such times.
Do these things as we have outlined.
-
(Q) Does the climate have any effect? (A) The climate is not the cause.
-
(Q) Does strain of the eyes have any importance in occurrence of a convulsion? (A) This, of course, tires the body, but is not a cause. As indicated, the cause is a lesion in the lacteal center - that causes the bursa in the ducts through the areas indicated to become filled.
Do these things, and we will bring bettered conditions for this body, [3082].
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/18/43 EC’s letter to Mr. [3082]:
“I have yours of the thirteenth. I hope that you found the report answering to a something within yourself. I am not acquainted with a physician in that part of the country and you’ll have to choose for yourself. I hope that you will get one who will cooperate with you in doing what is suggested. Knowing that we will be anxious to hear from you and hoping that you will get real results. Thanking you.” Sincerely, EC
R2. 9/19/43 Wife’s letter to EC:
“Though we have neglected to write to you since we received your last communication we haven’t been idle in regard to the treatment you suggested for Mr. [3082].
“A few days after we received your report we went to a doctor in Springville (15 mi. distant) whom we had seen previously and had known of [3082]‘s condition. He said that he couldn’t give the prescribed treatment and suggested an osteopath who lives in the same town. Being Sunday and having no appointment didn’t see her that day and having no means of frequent transportation decided that we couldn’t make the necessary visits at intervals required and did not consult the osteopath at all. At the present time there are three physicians in … and they are considerably overburdened and their time for each patient must be limited so it seemed futile to seek aid from them.
“I relate all of this so that you may understand the course we have followed.
“We decided that we would give the treatments at home, both of us having some knowledge of anatomy (we are x-ray technicians by training). After studying your instructions carefully we started in on the treatments. After 1/2 to 1 hour of relaxing with hot towel (with heating pad over it) on upper abdominal section gentle massage with finger tips was given for about five minutes at the point - a hands’ breadth and 2 fingers up from the umbilicus on the right side of the body. This was followed by massage to the back along each side of the spine at the vertebrae indicated in report.
“The preceding was carried out every other night for a period of three weeks. The following two weeks - two treatments were given per week. And since then there has been one treatment a week.
“Of course we don’t know whether we are getting the desired results. There have been no convulsions since May (the one previous to this occurred in September of last year).
“Would you suggest a check reading at this time or should we continue with weekly or more often treatments?
“He has discontinued the use of phenobarbital but continues the dilantin sodium until we learn conditions are better.
“After one of these treatments he is always hungry and the following day seems to be more constipated. These might be results of the treatment or coincidence.
“Relaxation of entire body seems complete after the heat applications as a matter of fact he goes to sleep. The treatments are given just before retiring for the night.
“We will be waiting to hear from you with further advice.
“With kindest personal regards, we are,”
Sincerely yours, Mr. & Mrs. [3082]
R3. 9/28/43 Edgar Cayce’s letter to Mr. & Mrs. [3082]:
“Thank you for yours of the 19th. It might be very well to check-up on the condition at the first possible chance, but that is so far off - the afternoon of December 2. I would keep up the treatments. I imagine you are doing better than most any doctor would do. I think from your understanding as a technician and from what the reading indicates, that you will find, evidently, there is a lesion in the lacteal duct area. Of course, you will find when you relax, this, the stomach has had a chance to empty itself, that there is a need of food. Everything that would be satisfied with some type of cooked cereal, or something of that nature which is not too hard to digest, you might find that it will relieve the constipation. Try oatmeal or maltex or something of that nature, cream of wheat, if you could get the wheat germ. All of these would be excellent, if this would satisfy him, but keep it up until that time and I hope we can get this for you the afternoon of December 22 from 3:30 to 4:30. As you know, check readings are $10. Let me know just where he will be at the time and hoping that we may indeed be of a real service, I am,” Sincerely, EC
R4. 10/25/43 Letter to EC from [3082]:
“Up to this point my wife has been carrying on our correspondence. So before we go much further perhaps it would help to hear from me personally, just to prove that both members of the family can write.
“It is difficult for me to express my appreciation for what you have done for me, it can’t be written on paper. Just the knowledge that my trouble has an origin of some kind has helped to a great extent. As for carrying out the treatments, we are really rank amateurs but our purpose is clear and our goal is always a reminder to keep on as well as we know how.
“In your letter of Sept. 28, ‘43 telling of the check reading you state two dates. Your first date is given as Dec. 2. then before closing you repeat the date giving it this time as Dec. 22 from 3:30 to 4:30. Which date is the correct one? Undoubtedly one is a slip of the fingers on the typewriter but it is confusing. I am sure you will clear the matter up before long. I shall then wait for your reply as to the correct date. I shall be at home at …, N.Y. whichever date it may be. By the way, would it be of any help if further questions were submitted before this next reading?”
Sincerely yours, [3082]
R5. 10/30/43 EC’s letter to [3082]:
“Thank you for yours of the 25th. I do hope that you are going to find the application of the suggestions made in your reading very valuable.
“I feel very sure that if you feel within yourself the information has analyzed your condition, then you are going to get a lot of help. I expect the stenographers who wrote the two letters just made an error in the dates, for the time as has been set for you is the afternoon of December 22 from 3:30 to 4:30. We want you to submit many more questions about what change if any and if you have any other questions, send them.
“Be sure to keep the period in prayerful meditation. Thanking you, I am,” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R6. 12/14/43 QUESTIONS:
…, N.Y.
(1) If treatment has proved satisfactory to this time, is it advisable to discontinue the use of Dilantin Sodium capsules? (If there is a strong possibility of another attack occurring would like to continue the drug.)
In the original reading it is stated, “…these applications once a week until those periods every two or three months, or three or four months apart when these bursa fill.”
(2) THE QUESTION is, how are we to know when these bursa fill until or before an actual attack informs us? Perhaps I am not well enough acquainted with the anatomical structure of this region to distinguish a lesion, however, I do distinguish a triangular space at the site described for massage and am guided by that in giving the massage.
(3) Does the ailment have any connection with the patient’s inability to gain weight? or is this due to inadequacies of diet? Can a diet be suggested (Maximum weight at any time - 127 lbs. fully clothed)?
(4) Has the massage to regions bordering on each side of the spine been correct and adequate so far?

Background
Background
B1. 5/18/43 “My husband has, for several years, had attacks that are now being treated as epilepsy, altho at the onset of the symptoms about 6 yrs. ago were thought to be due to a deficiency of blood calcium. The treatment he is now under has, for the last 8 months, controlled the symptoms. The last attack was suffered while at work and any future attacks might subject him to greater danger and permanent injury or worse… Thus we come to you in the interest of finding and correcting the cause. He is in fairly good health otherwise and is not working in a defense plant daily except Sunday.”
B2. 6/28/43 Wife’s letter:
- If possible, give a description of the body as it would appear during one of the convulsions - as position of body, facial appearance, muscular action or motion and general function and appearance.
- Occasionally there is a sudden brief blankness of mind at irregular intervals and this is noted several weeks before the attacks, and in periods of concentration. What is the relation of this momentary blankness to the conditions causing the convulsions? (There are also events which occurred that would likely be remembered that cannot be recalled. Is this natural?)
- Did the “correction” of writing with the left hand as a school child have any effect on, or as the cause of, the present condition? (Was taught to write with the right hand after natural left hand writing was established.)
- Does strain of the eyes (as after long periods of reading) have any importance in occurrence of a convulsion?
- Does the climate have any effect? (During 3 yrs. as a resident of W. Va. only one convulsion was experienced, whereas since moving back to N.Y. State, where attacks began, four attacks have occurred in the space of less than 2 yrs.)
- Is there a lesion in the head or skull?
- If so, would an operation be necessary?
- Is the condition due to some possible injury or is it likely inherited?
- If inherited type, would it be likely to be passed on to his children? (His mother had fainting spells but unlike convulsions of his experience.)
- He has been treated for a blood calcium deficiency. Is this low blood calcium a factor in the occurrence of convulsions?
- At the present time treatment consists of Dilantin Sodium and Phenobarbital combined 3 times a day. Will this prevent convulsions occurring for the present?
- Can this condition be cured?
- What corrective measures would be prescribed?
- Severe headaches and stomach ailment follow and precede, respectively, these attacks. What significance?
- What is the danger if these attacks continue without corrections? “The first questions would be primarily for obtaining the cooperation of his physician, altho we feel that it can be obtained anyway, if it is not possible to give the description.”
