This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of September, 1931, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [310].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading … Street, 10:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Body & enquiring mind - Physical, mental & spiritual reading, with questions)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, and those conditions and those problems as confront this body.
-
In the physical forces of the body there are MANY conditions not so good as they should be. The easily tiring out, and the worriments that the body has, the attempt to suppress many of the emotions - these are having their effect upon the body-physical.
-
In the applications for the various disorders as are troubling in the present, without those vibrations as have been given [the Radium Pad, in 310-3], WE would use those - then - of the RADIO-Active Appliance. Use same when the body rests during the day, and take the time for the rest. The REGULAR appliance. Of evenings when the body retires, we would also apply same. These will equalize the various stresses as are apparent in the system, and make the rest MORE refreshing.
-
We would find, too, that with the use of THIS as a stimuli in the system, would be well - this prepared in this manner:
-
To 4 ounces of simple syrup, add:
Tincture of Valerian…1/2 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…40 minims, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, 10% solution Bromide of Potassium…40 minims, 10% solution Iodide of Potassium…10 minims, Tincture of Capsici…3 minims.
Shake solution together (though it mixes well) before taking, and the dose would be half a teaspoonful at least three times each day, and upon retiring.
-
In the matter of the manipulations, were those of the neuropathic or osteopathic given, these would STRENGTHEN the body much.
-
As to those problems as confront the body, as to those of the RESPONSIBILITIES as would be placed, or the demands - in a manner - upon the body, the home ties - these, as we find, are NECESSARILY, from the conditions of things, a WORRYING - an ABSORBING worrying to the body. These, as we find, while they are of the nature that CANNOT be HELPED, by the PHYSICAL conditions, then trust - then - in the hands OF Him who doeth all things well. Take, then, to Him - leave them WITH Him, and meet each as the BEST that can be done within self.
-
In the relationships as about the home, well that - for the present, and under the present environs and circumstances - this be maintained in the present surroundings. As to the manners in which others may come to join the groups there, make in that manner as is capable in thine own experience - the appeal for those already IN the house to bring OTHERS that would make for a congeniality that is HELPFUL, wholesome, and well for ALL concerned, and for the betterment of circumstances and conditions for self.
-
As to the calls upon self in those of financial aid to others, in a GENERAL manner - as we find - would be the most helpful; for there has not - as YET - been that wholehearted determination to set self in a one-angled manner by that one seeking and needing aid in this direction.
-
As we find also, in the preparations for the duties in the executive, or in the field of labors as secretarial jobs or positions, these will - from time to time - present themselves in a manner that WILL be sustaining in its activities for the body, but DO NOT WORRY that these do not hasten. There will be, as we find, an opening in that same department as the body HAS aided in, as well as in an ASSOCIATE connection with same. These, with the general outline - as the body keeps in touch with those situations in the religious field, religious endeavors, will keep sufficient practice - or sufficient development in the field - for the body to be WELL prepared.
-
As we find, also, it would be well would the body offer self as an associate to one desiring service, as one in a travelled position, or as a private secretary in such associate - as companion - THESE would LATER open other fields that will make for a satisfaction to the body.
-
As to those fields in the living memorium for those that WOULD live in the hearts of those whom he served, well that this be established as an affiliation of some service in the church he served, as an aid TO one seeking to minister as HE, in ANY field that may be chosen by the body.
-
Keep thine self in a more sereneness as respecting those outside activities that DO bring their worriment. Keep the heart singing ALL the while.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How long a period at a time should the battery be applied in the afternoon and evening? (A) Of afternoon - there will be various periods, sometimes fifteen to twenty minutes, OTHERS the body may rest at least thirty to forty minutes. NEVER should the body allow the period without fifteen to twenty minutes rest in the afternoon. Of evening, from hour to two hours will not be too long. Make the attachments PRINCIPALLY (though we will alter same), first to the left ankle and the right wrist, then to the left wrist (that is, making attachments in that order, see?) and to the right ankle, then again to the RIGHT wrist and the left ankle. Circle the body in this manner.
-
(Q) Should this be changed each day, or day by day? (A) Day by day.
-
(Q) What is the cause, and what will relieve the condition existing in right hand? (A) This from the poor eliminations. Hence those nerve depressions as come. This, we will find, will be relieved by the use of these properties as given - see?
-
(Q) Is there cause for distress as to my father’s condition? (A) This is, as has been given, that that may not be changed must be endured. PLACE THESE worries in HIS hand.
-
We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/20/31 “Our dear good Friends, Mr. & Mrs. Cayce and Miss Gladys:
Yes, this is just the way I feel every time I have one of your lovely papers, and long with everything else, I do envy you of the splendid STENO, whose work I most painstakingly copied, after having read it that often that I had almost memorized it - this may be somewhat of an exaggeration, but not so bad. In truth, it is very good thing that it was received when I was not supposed to be in school, for I think the reading was all-absorbing for my apparently limited mental faculties. Again I give a real CHRISTIAN CHURCH A-MEN to all of it, and say the simple but very expressive words, “HOW WONDERFUL”, and yet you will know that I am simply ME, when I say that if I could be seated with Mr. C. and Muddie on each side, Miss Gladys in front, and H. L. behind me, with all four explaining, possibly I would or could really understand the content or context of the reading. You do remember that I wrote that my questions seemed quite unnecessary as a rule, and this time, I seem to have almost wasted the time which I spent in writing any questions, and all were dealt with much in the suggested order even, to say nothing of the subject matter of them.
Then, too, you are correct in the minutest detail of the physical conditions, of which I do know, and am sure that you must be just as correct in all else, even though I have tried so hard to carry out the suggestions, which I think refer to my relation to God, through thought and prayer; in other words I have worried, even while trying so hard not to do this very thing. As to the suppressed emotions and feelings, you are most positive, but this I have done, and still do for the sake of others with whom I must come in contact, and for fear they will think that I am not as strong as I should be. Yet, to you I can say that I feel purely hypocritical in this outside appearance, when I do so truly realize the real inside condition, myself.”
R2. 9/23/31 Mrs. [2457]‘s ltr.: “Mrs. [310] is using the battery [Radio-Active Appliance] as per instructions that came with it, which she showed me yesterday.”
R3. 9/26/31 See 257-73, Par. 29-A advising that Mrs. [310] aid in making connections for an agent, rather than being an agent, for Pittsburgh Chemical Products in one of Mr. [257]‘s businesses.
R4. 10/14/31 Mrs. [2457]‘s ltr.: “[310] is in bad shape, as if we did not know it. Am working with her [neuropathically] almost daily. She won’t have me on Sunday. Her back. Dr. Elise Stone [N.D.] asked her how her circulation could be poor when she had practically nothing to circulate.”
R5. 10/19/31 EC wrote Mrs. [310] to eat liver, liver pudding, tripe, pigs’ knuckles, beans of all kinds, lettuce, celery, pears (especially), spinach, raw cabbage, tomatos (preferably tomato juice), cooked apples, almonds, plenty of milk, and codliver oil. “Don’t mean for you to eat all of these at once, of course, but these should be included in your diet.”
R6. 10/30/31 Letter:
“Now that I do feel so much better, I simply shudder at some of my own feelings in the past months, and cannot express my gratitude to both of you for the part you have played, and are still having in my daily routine, and also in my kindest thoughts. My battery is truly my bed-fellow, and must confess that its effect is overcoming in that the soundest sleep is almost uninterrupted, and the morning finds me releasing it, and thinking of you dear ones who have made it possible. Only this week have I left off the most regular doses of the medicine, and felt that this had to be continued until some real bad feelings or conditions could be more nearly relieved, and I feel that I can take your suggestion of the interrupted taking of it now. The very upsetting trouble in the right hand and arm is so nearly ALL GONE that I wonder that it did cause me the inconvenience, that it did
- and you have not the whole truth yet about just how I did feel with or about it.”

B2. 9/5/31 She submitted further questions, including:
Is the proper course of action being followed now?
If further definite preparation is to be made, please suggest the nature of it.
Under present conditions, what kind of work would be best; when and where should this be? Definite suggestions for securing this.
Should plans be made for living in … longer?
Is it best that I give financial help for Louise’s education, should this be along general or strictly business lines?
What type or types of LIVING MEMORIALS would the most properly honor Mr. [5473] - how should these be effected and when?
If fair, please ask if there is cause for distress as to my father’s condition.
