GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3156].
-
As we find, there are conditions that disturb the physical, the mental, and the soul entity. This we find is a prenatal condition; and must be met by the body as well as by those responsible for the body.
-
It should not be delegated too oft, then, to someone else to administer those influences in the body-physical or mental for the correction of the disturbance.
-
We find that there is a lesion in the lacteal duct area affecting the activities of the pineal gland; causing those periods of incoordination at the 1st and 2nd cervical, causing spasmodic reaction to the mental body or those losses of hold on self, or the control of the rational body-mind.
-
For one hour each day, for at least three days in succession, we would apply the hot Castor Oil Packs over the lacteal duct and liver area. Use three thicknesses of flannel preferably old flannel saturated with Castor Oil. Apply directly to the body, covering with an oil cloth to prevent soiling linens, and then apply an electric pad. Apply these as hot as can be well stood by the body.
-
On the evening of the third day following the 3rd pack take internally an equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil; that is a tablespoonful of each.
-
Then have, the next day, an osteopathic adjustment; coordinating the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cervical, the 3rd and 4th dorsal, the 9th dorsal and then the lumbar axis.
-
Do these consistently.
-
Rest from all applications for five days then repeat this whole procedure. First the series of all packs followed by the combination of Oils taken internally and then the osteopathic treatment.
-
Rest five days then repeat, and so on.
-
In the food keep away from too much starches.
-
Keep the mental suggestions to the body that there will be no recurrent condition of the spasms.
-
Do these and we will find we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
With the beginning of these treatments, should there occur during the day one of the spasms, put a good big pinch of dry salt on the tongue - no water but the dry salt. This will relax the body quickly, and should - with these treatments - bring the body out of such lapses.
-
The mental suggestions had better be made by the parents as the body loses consciousness in sleep.
-
We will bring help if there is persistence and if, in the lives of the mother and father, there is consistent living of that they pray for.
-
The rest of the body we find responding very well. Brain reflexes are good. At times, as indicated, there are some reflexes to the organs of the sensory system; the eyes hurt the body, the hearing is not so keen after some of these spasms.
-
DO NOT give sedatives to the body, if it is at all possible to keep from it.
-
Do that.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/30/43 Grandmother’s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
This is just to report on the progress of little [3156] after following your reading instructions:-
The first of September my daughter, [3156]‘s mother, started the treatments prescribed to correct his trouble of epilepsy
- using the hot oil packs, oil internally and the osteopath treatments. After about three weeks of the treatments they noticed a very marked improvement and he was very much better in every way. Whereas he had been having an attack every night, he went about three weeks without one and didn’t seem to be in a daze most of the time, as he had been. Then he contracted intestinal grippe, and that set him back a bit and he had several attacks. As he recovered from that he improved again very much, was able to go to school daily and to Sunday School - which he hadn’t been able to do all last year. The osteopath suggested that he only take the treatment every two weeks instead of ten days. He still has an attack about once a month, but is so much better.
Is his progress as it should be, and we are wondering how long we should keep on with the hot oil packs and osteopathy. Are perfectly willing to do that or anything that will help. We are most gratified and grateful for the help you have given him, and are anxious to keep on until the cure is effected, as we believe it can be.
Thanking you for any advice or suggestions,
Very truly yours, Mrs. […]
R2. 12/4/43 EC’s letter to [3156]‘s grandmother:
Mrs. […] …, Del.
Dear Mrs. […]
I have yours of the 30th. With the report on [3156]. The osteopath should be able to tell you when the lesions have broken up in the lacteal duct area, but I would keep them up quite a while yet. Remember this is something where you are changing the whole course of the activities of the body. You are not only changing the condition, you are changing the course of the condition. Am certainly glad to know he is better. Do keep us in touch with him from time to time. If we can help him farther [further?], we will be glad to do it.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/vw]
R3. 2/5/44 Grandmother’s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
Regarding [3156], aged 8, of …, Conn:-
You gave a reading for [3156], whom we are treating for epilepsy, last August. His mother started immediately on the treatments with an osteopath and the hot oil packs, and has been most conscientious in following directions. [3156] has improved to a certain degree, but still has the attacks - sometimes as often as every two weeks. In between, lately, he seems to be in sort of a daze and has difficulty in concentrating. These spells make it necessary to keep him out of school. The attacks come mostly at night and are quite severe.
Is it possible for you to give him a check-up reading, so we may know what to do to aid further recovery? Am enclosing check for ten dollars. If that is not the correct amount for a check physical reading, kindly let me know.
Thanking you in advance for any further help you may be able to give, and appreciating what you have done, […]
R4. 4/17/44 Mother’s letter: “We are grateful for the help you have given, and his osteopathic treatments, at your suggestion, have given him greater relief and have done him far more good than anything they were able to suggest in 3 trips to Johns Hopkins. He is far from being completely well and normal yet, but has improved so greatly that we are very hopeful for complete recovery. The convulsions, which were occurring almost every night when we first wrote you, are now about 3 weeks or more apart, and long periods of incoordination and “dopiness” which sometimes lasted a week to ten days and were occurring every two weeks or so, haven’t been present now for over 2 months. So we are very encouraged and thankful.”
- Does his condition show improvement after 7 months of treatment?
- Is it only necessary for an osteopathic treatment every 3 or 4 weeks now, as the osteopath suggest? 2-1/2. How much longer should they be cont’d?
- Is it still necessary or advisable to use the Castor Oil Packs?
- Is there hope for permanent cure?
- What is suggested, other than the mild sedative, for extremely nervous condition which prevents relaxation and sleep at night?
- Is this extreme nervous condition and tenseness a part of his general trouble?

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I have just finished reading Mr. Sugrue’s book on your life and work, and am taking this opportunity of writing you - have no more definite address - to see if you can give a reading for my little grandson and help him to overcome attacks of epilepsy.
His name is [3156]. The little lad will be eight years old June 1st. Since he was five, he has been subject to epileptic attacks, some in the night, often in the daytime. About once a month or six weeks he will have a bad attack causing him to lose consciousness for a few minutes - the more frequent attacks are light, just a sudden twitching all over and drawing up of the facial muscles. He is extraordinarily bright mentally, reads everything and has a marvelous understanding of many things beyond his years. His mind is overactive and he can’t relax. For a year he has been on a special diet of fats, no starches or sugars, to form a natural sedative, but it does not seem to have helped much. He has been kept out of school this past year, his food carefully weighed, 1800 calories per day, and everything possible done to help the condition. This diet was recommended by Johns Hopkins, where my daughter took him for a check-up.
B2. 5/6/43 Letter from grandmother: “He has had these epileptic attacks since he was 5 yrs. old, some severe when he becomes unconscious, others of a lighter nature, but it has been necessary to keep him out of school and apart from the normal life of a child that age as he is so nervous. He has been taken to Johns Hopkins for a check-up and was put on a strict ketonic or fat diet for a year, low calories. His year is up, and he is not appreciably better. Regular physicians have not been able to help him. We know of no cases in the family history.”
