This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [412], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Born August 19, 1943, 6:15 A. M., at the Flower Hospital, Fifth Avenue at 105th St., New York City. Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, New York.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - [3172] [EC named her] we have the entity here, we would call [3172].

3. As we find, these would rather be directions to those responsible for this entity. We will find very definite characteristics in the entity. This will necessarily mean, then, that directions shall be given.

4. One that will be inclined to have its own way.

5. One that will be gifted especially in voice and in the use of the feet and hands. Thus those directions that may be given, even in its early years, toward rhythm and music. For this entity, the ability for accompaniments for the voice, as we find, would be the real accomplishment of the entity. These abilities should bring not only joy and hope to those about the entity but hope and pleasure to the many.

6. These, then, will be those directions:

7. Be mindful that the digestive forces are kept in order during the early periods of the unfoldment of the body and of the mind. [See Physical Rdg. 3172-2 on 5/15/44.] Care should be taken in those directions, and we should find the bringing of joy, hope, help to all those about this entity.

8. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, - these we find have been quite varied. This will make, then, those tendencies for supersensitiveness in the body and in the mind, and in the unfolding mind. A great imagination to the body-mind. This should not be stifled, but rather encouraged; not to extravagance but to the understanding and interpreting of those abilities within the entity.

9. For, - before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, in the early experiences of the Civil War; among those peoples in the land of the entity’s present general surroundings that made for the entertainment for those that were given to activities in those particular periods of unrest among the varied groups.

10. Hence we will find the definite decisions and likes and dislikes in the experience of the entity, as its life unfolds in the present.

11. The name then was Edyth Bland. The entity gained through those periods of activity in contributing to the welfare of others.

12. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land, when there were the associations with many of those that will enter the life experience of the entity in varied forms and manners in the present; many by merely the mental experience, many by the physical associations, many by the history or as a mental experience for the entity.

13. The entity added much to the helpful welfare of individuals through those periods of persecution, as well as in periods of activity in the many varied lands.

14. Hence the abilities as will be seen in the use of the voice, especially in this experience in the earth.

15. The name then was Malthah. The entity brought helpful forces for the many, and the activities that may be experienced in the present of seeing, knowing, of activities in many lands. For, the entity will be destined - according to purpose - for traveling, for changing and going to many places and many lands, even.

Before that (among those that come under the experience of the entity in its first and second cycle in the present) the entity was in the Egyptian land; when there were the associations with many of those in the entity’s own household in the present, - as in close association with the mother, and in relationships of the understanding of the father in those periods of advancement and developments in the preparations for groups in that particular land.

17. The name then was El-Ex-Ea.

18. As to the abilities of the entity in the present:

19. Keep close to those things pertaining to the spirit of purposefulness in those directions for the use of the voice; in those directions more by the mother and the closer relationships of same. These will be the activities of the entity through those periods of the first three cycles in this experience.

21. (Q) Have there been other relationships with the present mother [457]? (A) Other experiences, but these will have the greater influence in the present.

22. (Q) The father [412]? (A) The closer relationships were also in the Egyptian experience, where there was an influence bearing directly upon the activities that will be had in the present experience.

23. (Q) Are there any particular warnings to the parents concerning certain periods of the development of this entity? (A) Only in the early period as indicated, concerning the early period of digestion.

24. (Q) For what purpose did the entity come to the present parents? (A) To make for a uniting of effort not only in the home but in the purpose for which each soul enters a material experience, to the glory of the Creative Forces or God - and here to the entity it is given to use in voice. R1. 5/15/44 Mother obtained a physical reading for [3172]. See 3172-2, especially Par. 8-A—19-A re. birthmark, choice of name, vocational guidance, etc.

R2. 1/18/61 Grandmother [255]‘s letter: “We enjoyed the children [[3172] and her younger brother] who came home from Germany for the holidays. They speak German like natives now. [3172] has matured and is a very fine girl. She will go to Geneva to learn French this summer.”

R4. 3/1/65 Mother [457]‘s letter; “I have just ret’d from a visit to Oklahoma where our daughter [3172] is in College.”

R5. 3/22/67 Mother [457]‘s letter: She is not majoring in Music but I believe it is her minor. [3172] is majoring in Speech and Hearing Therapy. She has, however, been taking voice lessons for about five years, and enjoys singing although she has a sweet not a strong voice. We feel, however, that she could make use of this knowledge some day, possibly even with her teaching of the children.

You might also be interested to know that although she has never read her own life reading, when we stopped at Gettysburg on the way home from college, she was very much moved and did not know why, when we took the tour through the battlefield on a bus which had a recording relating the story of the battles in different voices and sound effects just as if one was there. She has also indicated a desire to go to Los Angeles for further graduate work in her field as well as continuing her studies. Somehow I think that she also has back of her mind working in hospitals there, possibly among the soldiers returning from Viet Nam. Who knows whether she might use her combination knowledge of music, singing and speech therapy there with the soldiers and history will repeat itself.

R6. 2/13/69 “I started going to the A.R.E. Study Group meetings [in …, N.C.] this semester because I don’t have a class on that night as I did last semester. I enjoy the meetings very much. Tonight we will hear a tape, as I understand. As my parents [Mrs. [457] & Mr. [412]] realized, I realize too, we don’t really know that much about the readings. Those in the study group know all about the readings and are quoting them very often.

“My studies are coming along ok. This semester I’m working at a pre-school for the deaf. It’s a course for credit but I would do it without credit. The children are very sweet and I’m sure I’m really going to enjoy the work… I’m enclosing a check for the book, A SEARCH FOR GOD I.”

R7. 8/14/70 She wrote from Berlin, Germany: “At the moment I’m on tour with teachers of the deaf. We are visiting several large cities in Europe and seeing clinics which teach the deaf children. When I get back I will be teaching at the … [Fla.] Oral School.”

R9. 8/28/74 Mother [457]‘s letter: “[3172] tried to get into the Board of education in Broward County [Fla.] but was unsuccessful. No good reason given. Could be the economy and she would have been too expensive to hire. So she has decide to study the Montessori method of teaching and has found a job teaching first grade while she is learning. Not earning as much as before but she is excited about the future possibilities to use these methods even in her own field.”

R10. 7/77 Parents [[412] & [457]] wrote: Last December we went to Florida to assist [3172] in finding a permanent position in Deaf Education, in which she has a Master’s Degree. At that time she was teaching on an hourly pay basis in a private school, 40 miles from her home, and studying 3 nights a week at Florida Atlantic University to complete her studies for elementary education certification. This together with her courses and experience in teaching with Montessori methods, provides a broad base for employment.

However because of declining tourist trade, South Florida has financially curtailed their educational program, which made it necessary for [3172] to look for employment outside of Florida. We just returned from a 4000 mile trip for interviews thru northern Florida, Georgia, south Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and back, with the result of 6 definite job offers.

She finally accepted a position at the state … School for the Deaf and The Blind, at … where she will start teaching on august 24th with more than twice what her salary has been.

It is impossible to detail the tremendous amount of work which was required in setting up a professional looking Resume, bringing up-to-date and weeding out her Placement File (references), making a 150 piece mailing to all public schools for the Deaf in the Southern States, filling out untold amount of applications requested in replies, and handling of follow-up correspondence and phone calls to arrange interviews, and plan an orderly trip to cover them. All of this has kept us away from our home for 7 months, and very, very busy! Needless to say we have not kept up with our personal correspondence.

However what counts are the results - that [3172] has discovered on our trips that there is a growing demand for her profession - all special education, and she was met with respect because of her educational background and experience. Also it is interesting to note that the federal government is bringing these unfortunate little people into the life stream of society. Here in … County alone they found 51 handicapped youngsters of whose existence there was no record. All of this indicates that [3172]‘s future opportunities are enhanced.
