This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of June, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [318], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) What has been causing the pains in the upper right hand side of my chest? (A) The natural consequence of the change in the developing body, as combined with excess in the amount of fats taken when these have not been assimilated, or have not been working well with that already assimilated in the circulation through the lungs.

Nothing to be alarmed about, unless it should be through contraction of cold or flu or something of the kind, that would attack the lung area at the time. Just beware of taking too much fats.

And do take six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin in half a glass of water each day after the heavier meal of the day, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. Take it only after the heavier meal, not after all of them.

5. (Q) Have I ever broken a rib on the right side of my chest? (A) Not in this experience.

6. (Q) What causes my eyesight to go blank when I read or look down for a long time? (A) Lack of vital energy in the body. Lack of the proper assimilation of the foods for replenishing the vital energies to the body, as indicated by the lack of certain vitamins in the body - as will be given, or as we will suggest to be given.

7. (Q) Do I need glasses? and would I have to wear them all the time? (A) Not necessarily, if there are the corrections of the general physical conditions.

8. (Q) What kind of treatment could I take to cure my face of pimples and blackheads? (A) The keeping up or the creating of a better elimination.

For this body, taken twice each day the combination of vitamins found in Yellow Label Yeast. [Fleischmann’s Yellow Label Yeast] Stir this in milk and take of morning. In the evening take it stirred in tomato juice. Dissolve it first, of course, or break it up with a fork and then add a little of the juice - the milk or tomato juice, and then fill the glass - but not too big a glass; that is, not a full tumbler.

9. (Q) What causes little brown skin blotches on my chest and abdomen? (A) Poor circulation.

10. (Q) How can I gain weight? (A) Do the things outlined.

11. (Q) In what condition is my blood pressure? (A) Near normal.

12. (Q) Do I have any kind of trouble or defect that might cause me to be deferred from the army? How can I correct it? (A) Depends upon what is the application for a general service or for some particular branch. No defect that cannot be corrected by building up the health in the manner indicated; using after the heaviest meal each day the six drops of Pepsin, and twice each day the Yeast. Do this not for just one day and skip the next day, but do it EACH day for at least thirty days - and then you’ll commence filling out!

13. (Q) Is there any special diet I should follow? (A) Eat plenty of fish and chicken, and when you eat it chew the bony pieces of the chicken - especially the neck and feet.

R1. 6/22/43 “I am carrying out my reading except for the Yellow Label Yeast. We couldn’t get it anywhere.”

R2. 6/25/43 EC’s ltr.: “On Sun. night, I believe it is 8:30 - it would be 7:30 there, you hear it advertised on the radio - and, by the way, it’s a pretty good program. [One Man’s Family] It’s Fleischmann’s Yellow Label Yeast. I think you will find it a pretty good thing, and I’m sure you will find it at your grocery store.”

R3. 7/12/43 “I have chicken from 3-4 times a week and fish from 1-2 times a week. While we were waiting to see if we could find the yeast, Daddy [779] bought some ‘PLENAMINS VITAMIN CAPSULES’ for me to take. As soon as I finish taking them I am going to start the yeast. Daddy wouldn’t let me take both, because he said they might cause me more harm than good by taking two things.”

R4. 8/1/43 “I started taking my yeast Friday as you told me to do in the rdg.”

R5. 8/22/43 “The yeast seems to be clearing my face up right along.”

R6. 9/2/43 EC’s ltr.: “Glad the yeast is working alright. Will have to watch your diet, not too many sweets but a lot of green vegetables. Wonder if you like them.”

R7. 10/3/43 Young [318]‘s ltr.: “The yeast cakes seem to be doing me some good.”

R8. 10/9/43 EC’s ltr.: “I think you had better hold up on the yeast cakes about a week, then commence all over again. It usually works better in relays.”

R9. 6/4/44 “I had my physical examination for the Army on May 10th but I didn’t pass. I am glad that I failed in a way. I will at least be able to finish school. The draft board told Daddy that they would not call me again.”

R10. 8/31/44 Mrs. [3175]‘s ltr. about entertaining [318] on visit to N.Y.C.:

“[318] telephoned that he was feeling unsettled in his stomach and we agreed he had better rest instead [of sightseeing]…

“I don’t think he eats properly and told him so along with some motherly advice which I suppose he will not follow.”

R11. 2/4/45 He wrote: “I had my tonsils taken out Dec. 27th.”

R12. 12/4/46 He wrote from college, requesting extracts from the EC readings on cancer, tuberculosis, arthritis.

R14. 9/25/49 He wrote HLC: “Just a note to tell you I am having my hernia operation Oct. 4th here in … [Ala.]. I believe that after the operation my soul will find greater truth. I shall always appreciate the help and advice you gave me in August 1948.”

R15. 2/1/50 He wrote HLC: “Please have my name placed on the Norfolk Prayer list and on any other A.R.E. prayer group list. I know the prayers will help me a great deal as they did in Oct. when I had my hernia operation. The operation was very successful. I got along so well that I surprised everyone, including my doctor. He called me his ‘surprise patient’ and ‘blue ribbon’ patient.

“Since Jan. 26th I have been in the Montgomery Tuberculosis Sanitarium. I found that I had tuberculosis several weeks ago. Dr. Oliver (head doctor at the sanitarium) talked to me last night. This is partly what he said: My chances for getting well are good. I need rest, rest, rest and food, food, food. Rest is very important for me. He was being optimistic when he said I would be here nine months.

“I have tuberculosis in my right lung only. There is a small cavity in the upper right lobe and most of my trouble is located in this region. They will start the air treatment on me in the morning. The air will be given through the stomach. They call this collapsing the lung so it may rest and heal. They are also going to give me streptomycin. They give it a great deal now for T.B. patients. Shots - a shot a day for ninety days.

“I would appreciate it if you would put a little notice in the Diary-Letter saying that I am in a tuberculosis sanitarium and would appreciate the prayers of my friends.”

R16. 2/21/50 HLC’s ltr.:

Your letter of February 1st was an unpleasant surprise. Enclosed you will find one of our BULLETINS which covers some data on tuberculosis. Have you considered using the charred keg with brandy as an inhalent? This is mentioned in this article. It has proven exceedingly effective in the treatment of tuberculosis for a great many people. I have a particular interest in it because my mother was one of the first cases for whom it was recommended.

We will have your name put on the prayer list and I know that much good will result from this.

If you decide to do something about the brandy keg, it will probably be necessary to discuss it with the doctors. This will have to be handled with great tact. It certainly cannot be of any harm to you but be careful about discussing the source of it or they will scoff about it. I think you can probably handle this all right though.

R17. 6/11/50 “I rec’d your letter of Feb. 21st. Thanks for sending the information on tuberculosis and for having my name put on the prayer list. I feel that the prayers have helped me.

“June 26th will mark my fifth month here. I felt that it would be best not to mention or discuss the brandy keg with the sanitarium doctor. My x-ray pictures are really revealing good improvements. On May 2nd I finished my streptomycin shots. I am taking three treatments now: (1) Bed rest, (2) pneumo-peritoneum (stomach air), and (3) PAS (Para-Amino Salicylic acid). Within four months I shall take 2,300 PAS capsules - I started May 18th. ‘Time Marches On.’ The drug makes most of the patients sick (at times) on their stomach and causes them to lose a little weight. I hope PAS doesn’t bother me. On Jan. 19th I weighed 118 pounds. Today I weigh 139 pounds.

“Lately I have been to two baseball games. I enjoyed getting out and seeing the civilized world again.”

R18. 6/28/50 HLC’s ltr.: “I hope that as soon as possible you will take up the use of the brandy keg and other suggestions given in the rdgs. for t.b.”

R19. 7/27/50 “The PAS (Para-Amino-Salicylic acid) capsules have caused me to lose a little weight - down from 139 to 133 1/2 lbs. When I finish taking the capsules in Sept. I expect to start gaining weight again. The doctor diagnosed my case as tubercular pneumonia. Yesterday marked my sixth month here. If everything goes well I will be dismissed as an arrested case on Sept. 16th. When I return home I intend to take up the use of the brandy keg and other suggestions given in the rdgs. for tuberculosis.”

R20. 1/26/51 “Can you help me locate a gallon or two gallon charred oak keg? Also some Pure Apple Brandy (Hildrick’s)? The only keg I can locate in … and that can be ordered is a five gallon size.”

R21. 6/10/51 “Thanks for making the pneumo appointment for me. It is satisfactory. I look forward to attending the Congress.”

R22. 1/5/52 Young friend, with whom he was living, working, taking college courses, wrote:

“[318] has just passed his 2 year mark of taking pneumo-injections. We purchased the required brandy for his charred keg today. Tomorrow he will begin his treatment by inhaling the fumes as the readings suggested it for T.B, cases. Also we are both re-scheduling ourselves for 2 hours more sleep per night to see if he will gain weight more rapidly. We are re-scheduling our meditations for immediately after work during the week, as that will be a very convenient time. With these measures we hope his body will readjust more quickly so that he will be able to discontinue his pneumo-injections long before the 5 year period is complete.”

R23. 11/1/53 GD’s note: I was told that [318]‘s appendix was removed at Virginia Beach Hospital tonight by Dr. Waller L. Taylor, assisted by Dr. Todd.

R24. 1/1/61 He wrote from Ala. that he had entered the hospital there on 11/13/60 for a first and later a second operation [for stomach ulcers, lacerations, etc.], being released from the hospital on Dec. 7th.

“An exploratory operation was performed on me on Wed. Nov. 16th. The growth in my stomach was removed and some of the tissue was sent to Montgomery or Birmingham for tests. The report came back on Monday that the cells were undergoing a change; they were becoming malignant. On Tuesday, Nov. 22nd, the rest of my stomach was removed, except for a small connecting piece to my esophagus and intestine. My liver and all the area around my stomach was found to be in good shape. The doctor said I made remarkable progress. I had very little trouble after the operations and was released on Dec. 7th. Since then I have been convalescing at my sister [4176]‘s home. I still don’t feel as well as I would like; I have my good days and my bad days. I want to return to Denver and to my library assistant job as soon as the doctor says ‘go’.”
