GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help; and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - we have the body here, [3180].
-
As we find, there are acute conditions disturbing the better physical functioning of the body. These, however, arise from some general disturbances that exist through the physical forces of the body.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [3180] we are speaking of:
-
In the present the blood supply, while very good, is - through the lymph circulation - acting as an irritant to the soft tissue of nasal passages. Hence the throat and eyes suffer because of too great a flow of lymph, and the excitement apparent in the olfactory nerves of the face and head tissue.
-
These, as generally termed, are subject to inflammation by conditions to which the body becomes allergic at certain seasons or cycles of body change; these produce a great irritation.
-
The blood flow of heart activity is quickened somewhat, because the irritation produces a tendency towards temperature. A variation in climatic conditions, or atmospheric pressures would in a manner alleviate same.
-
But as we find these are the sources, and these alleviated, the body may eliminate these disturbancies that have been of a periodical nature under the existent conditions.
-
Parts of this, of course, are from a glandular affection as will be seen. But through the areas of the coccyx and the lower dorsals there have been pressures, that cause in the adrenal glands and centers an excitement - that causes inflammatory conditions to the olfactory nerves. This brings on these stages or states of condition as exhibited in the present through the antrum and nasal passages, as well as the inflammation to the throat.
-
Then, if there would be the administration of corrective measures osteopathically in those particular areas, and then the upper dorsals and cervicals coordinated with corrections as would be made, we will alleviate much of the distress.
-
Coordinate those centers where the cerebrospinal and sympathetic coordinate the greater, where there are the larger areas of the patches of the lymph and emunctory circulation that coordinate with the cerebrospinal centers; as given, 9th dorsal, bronchial center, 3rd and 4th dorsal and throughout the cervical area.
-
There would be required at least ten or twelve of such adjustments to keep the conditions remaining in their correct position.
-
As an antiseptic, and as a reducing agent to the plethoric condition caused in the passages of nose and throat themselves, - for cold as well as for the acute conditions, - we would prepare an inhalant. Put this solution in at least a six or eight ounce container; preferably a large mouth bottle in which - through the cork - there may be put two small openings with glass tubes. These are not to extend into the solution, but just sufficient so they may be kept corked to prevent too great a loss of the strength of this combination from the effect of evaporation. In such an eight ounce container, when this is prepared, put this solution:
-
To four ounces of grain alcohol, at least 90% proof, put - in the order named:
Oil of Eucalyptus…20 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…20 minims, Tolu in Solution…10 minims.
When this is to be used, remove the small corks from the tubes in the bottle (after shaking the solution well), and then inhale through the nostril, each side, some three to four times; not the liquid itself but the fumes that naturally will arise if these ingredients are prepared properly. When not in use, keep these openings tightly corked. Use this inhalant some three to four times a day, or whenever there is the tendency for the sneezing, or cold, or irritation - and these will also eliminate the distresses.
-
The nerve forces of the body naturally produce irritability, for, the effect is upon the sympathetic nervous system. And any suggestive forces - as may necessarily act upon the sensory forces - react as an irritant. Not natural conditions of the body but the natural reflexes under the general stress of the conditions.
-
Also from the nerve forces we find the tendency to irritate the circulation between the liver and kidneys, when these are the greater distresses, from the lymph or the discharge from the sneezing or coughing. Hence the type of osteopathic treatments suggested.
-
Then as to the matter of diet and eliminations for the body.
-
Keep good eliminations, even though occasionally it becomes necessary to use something as an eliminant. For this particular body, because it is subject to, or has an allergy to pollen of this particular flower or plant, - use Simmon’s Liver Regulator. This, of course, is made from the ambrosia weed. This may be used in liquid or the dry flower or leaf itself; but the liquid will be the preferable to take at the present time. This take only occasionally.
-
In the diet, - keep away from too much sweets - just occasionally.
-
Keep away from too great a quantity of starches. Do not combine any two starches at the same meal. For instance, do not take white potatoes at the same meal with macaroni, white bread or such. Do not take citrus fruit juices and cereals of any character at the same meal, or even the same day; for these tend to disturb one another, in this combination.
-
Fish and fowl are preferable as meats, if these are to be taken.
-
Leafy vegetables are preferable to those of the bulbular natures. Use at least three of the leafy vegetables to one of the bulbular, or those that grow under the ground. But do use raw vegetables oft or some of these each day; as watercress, carrots, grated raw or cooked, celery, lettuce, radishes, and those things that act as purifiers to the blood stream.
-
Do these, and we may bring the better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 8/27/43 Brief of EC’s reading made by Phyllis Goodall, R.N.:
FEMALE - 19 yrs. HAY FEVER (Fear of Asthma as a secondary condition)
Physical History and Medical Findings
Throughout life she has been very healthy. Four years ago suddenly became acutely ill with HAY FEVER. Has been under the care of a specialist (M.D.). Treatment prescribed not related in letter from mother, but she states that the doctor finds her case so acute and unyielding to treatment that he fears she may develop asthma as an aftermath of the condition.
Summary of READING as to Disturbance and Treatment:
A disturbance in the lymph circulation causes irritation to the soft tissues of the nasal passages. The throat and eyes suffer due to too great a flow of lymph and excitation of the olfactory nerves and those of the face and head tissue. At certain seasons of the year or cycles of body change these are subject to inflammation, caused by substances to which the body is allergic and this inflamed condition causes great irritation which produces a tendency toward fever and quickened heart beat.
Allergic tendencies are also affected by atmospheric pressures so that oftentimes a change of climate alleviates the condition where other treatment fails.
In this case there is also a glandular affection which in part is causing the trouble. Through the areas of the coccyx and lower dorsals pressures exist - 9th dorsal, brachial center, 3rd and 4th dorsals and throughout the cervical area. These pressures cause an excitement to the adrenal glands that in turn produces an inflammation of the throat and disturbance to antrum and nasal passages.
TREATMENT: Osteopathic adjustment in above designated spinal area, followed by coordination of the upper dorsals and cervicals with the corrections made; especially those centers where exist the larger areas of lymph and emunctory circulation and where the cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous systems are closely coordinated. At least 10 or 12 adjustments would be required to assure permanency of corrections.
To reduce the plethoric condition of nose and throat and as an antiseptic, we would prepare an inhalant. (See READING for prescription and detailed description of how to prepare; type of container to be used; and when and how to inhale mixture.) ELIMINATIONS: Keep the eliminations good - even if occasionally necessary to use an eliminant. This body has an allergy to the pollen of the flower or plant from which Simmons Liver Regulator is made. This, of course, is made from the ambrosia weed. This take only occasionally - in the liquid form is preferable.
DIET: Keep away from sweets. Keep away from too great quantity of starches. Do not combine any two starches at same meal. Do NOT take citrus fruit juices and cereals of any character at the same meal or even the same day. These disturb one another. Fish and fowl are preferable as meats if any are to be taken. Leafy vegetables are preferable to bulbular ones or those that grow underground. Eat raw each day some of these: carrots, watercress, celery, lettuce, radishes - all of which act as purifiers of the blood.
Do these - that we may bring better conditions for this body.

R3. 9/2/43 Mother [2946]‘s letter:
Joy: the reading came for [3180]‘s hayfever. I think it is one of the most amazing documents I ever read. We pounced on it with glee because she had had her first attack of asthma the day before when she arrived here. And all that night she had lain awake struggling for breath. Fell asleep toward morning just exhausted after three weeks of difficulty in breathing. Well, sir, the reading sounded so practical and so thorough. I could scarcely make Father believe I hadn’t described her symptoms to you - The first thing we did was to borrow Dad’s car with his precious gas and take [3180] to the neighboring town to the osteopath. I told him about the reading. He was not interested, thank you. He guessed after nineteen years of experience he did not need a medical man nor a psychic nor anyone else to help him diagnose. That was that. However, he gave her a good treatment. I asked him just exactly what he found wrong and some of his findings corresponded with yours. He is willing, of course, to go on treating her but I don’t think he is cooperative enough to make it vastly worth her while to spend a half a day going back and forth by train. She is going to take a few, however, and then get a good course of them when she returns to Chicago hoping they will cure the cause - The inhalant you gave is perfectly swell. The druggist said he had never put up exactly that combination but he thought it should be excellent - We got right smack after the diet and she will follow it rigidly. I’m planning meals for her before I leave today - Last night she was awake only a couple hours. Well, I surely hope she sticks tight to her schedule - and she will
- and we will report to the files of the Association! Tell Gladys not to send a copy to any osteopath until she gets back to Chicago.
R4. 9/6/43 Mother’s letter: “[3180] is faithful to her diet and is already feeling much better.”
R5. 9/30/43 Miss Goodall’s letter: “Dr. Musselman is amazed and thrilled with the utter truth of the diagnosis on Mrs. [2946], Miss [3180] and Mrs. [3006].”
R6. 12/18/43 Questions were submitted for Check Up by Dan C. Harman, D.O.
