This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 19th day of December, 1932, in accordance with request made by the grandmother, Mrs. [413], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading At [413]‘s home, 12:50 to 1:00 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [324], and those conditions that disturb the body at the present time.
-
As we find, there are the effects of cold and congestion, especially to the membranes of the throat and head; that is, the effect that produces such an amount of temperature.
-
That to be prevented most is this causing too great a strain on the soft tissue, as to produce antrum or the ear trouble, or descending into the bronchi and lungs and making for the inflammation of the pleural cavity.
-
While the temperature is high, as we find, some little changes in the ministrations would make for better conditions for the body; as this:
-
First we would massage as much camphorated oil in the spine, chest and throat, as the body will take up.
-
We would massage the soles of the feet with mutton tallow, camphor and turpentine. Keep these very warm. These would be mixed in proportions as about equal parts of each, see? Necessary then, of course, to dissolve the mutton tallow. Two or three drops of the Spirits of Camphor and Spirits of Turpentine to about twice the amount of the mutton tallow dissolved. Of course, do not have this so hot as to burn, but have warm when applied and keep wrapped in hot flannels.
-
We would take the Syrup of Squill, five to eight drops every three to four hours.
-
Dissolve five grains of Calcidin in ten ounces of water. Keep warm, and every few minutes when there is the choking or the irritating of the body give a few sips of this, see?
-
These may be given without fear of hindering or being effective with any other applications.
-
Do that.
-
The oil and the Squill, especially, will reduce the temperature.
-
Be mindful of this, especially through the coming night and morning.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any advice regarding nourishment? (A) Necessary, to be sure, that there be kept the nourishment; but be mindful that there is not produced an effect to cause the cold or congestion that would settle upon the lungs, or upon the intestinal system as to cause colitis, or any of the disorders from same; hence the pre-digested foods would be the better through these periods, and those of the natural fruit juices - but do not give sugar with same.
-
(Q) Should all other treatments now being applied be kept up? (A) Only when necessary, for if these are applied properly we will see - in four to six hours - a great deal of change for the better.
-
(Q) Any special affirmation to be held for the body? (A) Not as we find, other than that which has been.
-
We are through for the present.

R3. 6/23/33 See her grandmother [413]‘s letter, below, giving background and report of this case.
This is a testimony which I hope you may be able to use in helping somebody else and in spreading your wonderful work.
My little granddaughter, [324], now twenty months old, became ill last November. The doctor diagnosed her condition as being cold which had settled in her ears. He treated her for two weeks and during this time punctured both of her ears, but instead of improving she continued to grow worse.
Then, on the Sunday before Christmas, the doctor prescribed a new medicine, and when I started to give her the second dose she cried so hard that I only gave her half of it. I took the balance myself, as a test. I found it contained something which burned terribly. In less than two hours from that time she began to break out in splotches on the lower limbs, and the bottoms of her feet had dark spots on them. She couldn’t bear to be touched on her legs. She was so bad we called the doctor at twelve o’clock that night. He came and checked to see what was the cause of this unusual condition. He said it was a form of “hives”. When I told him what I found about the medicine, he ordered it discontinued.
I decided that night, and told my husband, that if she was living the next morning I was going to get Mr. Cayce to give a Reading for her, if possible. I really thought the child was dying. I made an appointment for a Reading early the next morning. When the doctor came he saw that her condition was serious and called a baby specialist. By this time the soles of her feet were black; circles had formed around her ankles. Her ears were black, with the exception of the lobes. The gums, the specialist said later, looked like they were “mortified”.
In the meantime, before the specialist arrived, you had given the Reading and Miss Gladys Davis, your Secretary, had telephone me the directions for treatment. I didn’t say anything to the doctor, because the Reading indicated the treatments outlined wouldn’t interfere with anything already being done. So I followed the doctor’s treatment and also the directions given in the Reading. The specialist prescribed only something to make a lining in her stomach where the medicine had destroyed the tissue to a certain extent, a sedative for making her sleep, and a mouth wash. The child’s temperature registered 104 1/2 degrees, yet these were all the specialist ordered.
The Reading diagnosed the condition as being cold that had settled in the system, and gave us a warning to be careful through that night and the next morning that it didn’t attack the soft tissue and develop into pneumonia. It also said that within six or seven hours, if the directions were adhered to, there would be a great change for the better in the condition of the body. I really followed the treatments as outlined.
After I received a copy of the Reading on Monday night, a neighbor came in and said she had never seen but two people in that condition. I asked her if they had gotten over it. She reluctantly answered, “No”. I just laughed and said, “Here’s ONE that is going to get well.” I knew if the Reading indicated there was a chance of saving her that all was well.
In exactly seven hours from the time I had started giving the treatments outlined in the Reading her temperature started dropping. Then for the satisfaction of my own mind I took the temperature every hour instead of every four hours as the doctor had advised. After that the temperature dropped one degree each hour until it was just a little over a hundred. When the doctor came the next morning he showed great surprise at the chart. He said, “Well, I expected to find her SOME better - ” He has never known what brought about the change, as I never told him about the Reading.
After the temperature had dropped this much, I began to grow lax in treating the child, there being no one else upon whom I could depend to relieve me and the constant watching had weakened me. The minute I became lax, the temperature would begin to mount, and when the treatments were followed carefully it would drop. The doctor could not understand this fluctuation. He made a blood test and found it negative. Not being satisfied he called in another specialist, who took a Malta fever test. This was found to be negative also.
It was week before I really felt the child was out of danger and on the upgrade. She overcame the trouble and was practically well, with the exception that with the least cold her ears would give her trouble and begin to discharge again. She kept this up until I got second Reading, about four months later. The condition was explained as being caused by the poisons not being completely eliminated from the system. I had been advised and even urged by several people (including nurses) to take her to an ear specialist. But instead of that I obtained the second Reading and the simple treatment outlined was followed which eliminated all the trouble.
[324] is now fat, healthy and growing fast. Those who saw her at the time of the crisis when her life almost went out and who now see her present state of radiant health, marvel at the miraculous recovery.
