This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [3242], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - here again we would find better physical conditions if peace would be made with many of those where there are obligations.

3. We have the body here, [3242].

4. As we find there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better physical functioning of this body. These have to do with the eliminations, causing an unbalancing of the chemical forces in the glandular system as to prevent the ability of the glands to reproduce certain functionings of the nerve and muscular forces in the body. These will gradually become atrophied unless some measures are taken for corrections.

5. The blood supply indicates the lack of proper eliminations, and the improper coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal system. These have to do then with the emotional body as well as the physical being.

6. In the nerve forces partially the effect of the poisons and of an unbalanced chemical condition, which prevents the recreation of tissue, impulse and the like in nerve forces. And without this the muscular forces, - as in the limbs - show deterioration and the inability for proper reflexes in same.

7. In the organs of the body - the liver and the abdominal, or throughout the colon and intestinal area - there are disturbances that cause not only a rash that appears at times on body but the incoordination in eliminations.

8. As we find, to make for better conditions of this body, begin with the first things first. Do put away some of those animosities.

9. Then we would begin physically with hydrotherapy treatments, which should include the Sweat Baths - a Fume Bath following a mild sweat - the needle showers and a very low electrical treatment; followed by an oil rub.

10. The electrical treatments would be well not only with the hand electricity that passes through the body of the manipulator with the applied electrical forces, or the Violet Ray, but also the Ultra-Violet Lamp with the green light interposed.

11. With the hydrotherapy we would include about every ten days to two weeks a colonic irrigation.

12. Each day we would take internally about ten drops of Glyco-Thymoline, putting about five drops in a glass of water and drinking it twice daily. This is to act as an intestinal antiseptic.

13. If acute pain is experience over portions of the abdomen from the taxation of the body forces (which shouldn’t be very often after the first one or two colonics, but should these arise) apply Glyco-Thymoline Packs over the area. If this is acute, apply heat; otherwise use the Pack regular temperature and keep on for at least an hour resting during that period. Put this over the area where there is pain, whether in the lower area of the caecum or extending across the whole lower area of the colon.

14. Do these and we will make for better conditions for this body.

15. Do the first things first. Those first indicated are needed most.

17. (Q) Should hormone injections and other treatment be continued as being given by Dr. Frederick Ziman, 145 W. 86th St., N.Y.C., or are these harmful? (A) These will not be helpful with these treatments suggested here. Choose between the two. These as we have indicated here will aid the body.

18. (Q) Can my vision be strengthened without the use of my glasses? if not, should I wear bi-focals or just reading glasses when I need them? (A) Use the glasses, but as the treatments are given and the general physical condition of the body is improved, these will be less needed than at present. After there have been the treatments, as we find the bi-focals will be the better.

19. (Q) What causes and what remedy is advised for frequent headaches? (A) Toxic conditions through the body.

20. (Q) Am I allergic to certain foods - if so, what foods, and what diet should I follow? (A) Will not be after at least ten to twelve of the hydrotherapy and electrical treatments; will not be allergic to them as in the present. Keep a well balanced diet carrying plenty of B-1 foods; All yellow foods. And through the winter give A and D and B-1 vitamin tablets.

The hydrotherapy treatments should be given once each week.

21. (Q) A small growth on right side of my neck - what is is and can it be removed without x-ray or surgery? (A) Glandular disturbance. Massage this each evening with a mixture of castor Oil and baking soda; it will take this away.

22. (Q) Digestive organs not functioning properly, often affecting my heart, causing it to palpitate or beat unevenly? (A) As indicated these are the disturbances. Do those things given.

23. (Q) In view of my physical condition, would it be advisable for me to take a position outside my home, office work of some kind? (A) After the treatments, this may be done. In eight to ten to twelve weeks this may be done.

24. We are through with this reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce.

I am writing you re. a check reading, which I should, naturally of course, like to have as soon as possible. I have followed the treatments prescribed in my reading and will have had twelve treatments after next week’s appts are kept. I needn’t tell you that I’m MUCH better. The way my energy and endurance have improved is miraculous. However, the distress in my abdomen is still with me, so I should like to know about continuing some treatments or if something else is advisable.

May I ask questions, as in first reading? Am inclosing a money order for $10.-., and would appreciate an early reply. Many thanx and God bless you.

Your letter of Jan 12 - received giving me March 10 - 3:30 to 4:30 E.W.T. for my CHECK READING.

I will not send in the ‘App’t Slip’ now, as we expect to move at the end of Feb. or Mar. and of course don’t know just where I’ll be. Have continued with the treatments as prescribed for me in my reading of Sept 24, ‘43, and as I wrote you before I’ve improved wonderfully in energy and endurance, but want to check up on other things that aren’t responding so well.

Would appreciate a diagnosis of, and prescribed treatments for the following:

1. Hurting and aching in extreme lower abdomen, groins, legs and lower part of back. Distress intensified by house-work or even much walking.
2. My tongue is once more brownish-black.
3. The small growth on my neck disappeared but left a circular ridge - like a scar, which further treatments have failed to remove.
4. Intense headaches at times, directly over and BETWEEN the eyes.
5. When you prescribe a NEEDLE shower do you mean an ORDINARY shower - or the ‘needle’ shower that showers you from all sides OR the Scotch Douche?

Am not entirely over an attack of influenza and have about lost all that good energy I gained after taking the treatments you prescribed. I’ve been taking these treatments up till last week when I decided to stop them till after my check reading, as I wasn’t getting the help, or relief, I should say, that I thot I should.

Questions for Check reading of [3242], New York City, for Apr. 23, 3:30 to 4:30.

Would appreciate a complete diagnosis of my body and its functions, and treatments prescribed where necessary. specifically for the following ailments:

1. Am still suffering thru lower back, abdomen and legs. (?)
2. My urethra was treated about ten years ago as being the cause of this abdominal distress. Is my urethra in health condition now?
3. I have passed a small amount of blood from my vagina, twice in last few weeks (?) (my menstrual periods stopped years ago.)
4. I have had a nasal catarrhal condition a good part of my life, with severe ‘sinus’ headaches occasionally. (?)
5. The small growth on my neck disappeared after a few weeks application of the castor oil and soda you prescribed. Will you kindly tell me how to get rid of the scar?
6. I would like to quit smoking or at least cut down on amt of cigarettes I smoke. My will power has deserted me. Can you help me out?

Dear Mr. Cayce -

I have just finished reading Mr. Sugrue’s book ‘There is a River’ and if all readers were affected the same as I from reading this book I’m sure you’ve been deluged with letters.

I have been a student of metaphysics for over twenty years (Trinity School of Christianity, K.C. Mo.,) and the last six or seven years have read and studied yoga Philosophy, and I have never read anything that has appealed to me as strongly as what you have given out in your readings and Mr. Sugrue has written in this book.

And the health and happiness you have brot to so many thru out the years is truly wonderful. You’ve certainly been making ‘lots’ of good Karma!

I should like very much to have a reading. My health has been very bad for some time. I’m taking Osteopathic treatments at present. They have helped me wonderfully in a great many ways - but an old trouble doesn’t respond & I suffer considerably.

Will you kindly let me know if you can give me a reading what the fee is - etc, etc.

I’m coming to you in faith and will carry out the instructions to the best of my ability.

My husband [5404] and I aren’t living together - we aren’t divorced but have lived separately for several years.

It’s a friendly arrangement - no ill feeling. We have always been incompatible and feel that now that our children are adults it would be better for us to live apart.

Questions for my reading for Sept 27, 1943 10:30 to 11:30 am

May I hear a complete diagnosis and prescribed remedy for each ailment listed.

1. A hurting, burning distress in lower part of my abdomen, back and legs - aggravated by light house work - climbing stairs or even walking very much.
2. My digestive organs do not function properly, often affecting my heart - causing it to palpitate or beat unevenly.
