This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of October, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3262], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. […].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Mich.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
As we find, conditions are very well understood with this body. The applications are good; save we would not use the sinusoidal as the electrotherapy treatment, but rather the heat wave - or the diathermy, and this not too heavy.
-
Also we would massage the spine with an equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil. These used also on the limbs would be most helpful for the body.
-
These we would do.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What bearing does the reflex action of muscles of affected parts have upon the potential voluntary action of these muscles, - as the extensors of knees and feet? (A) These as we find are reflexes that are a part of the control through the necessary changes that should be wrought by the massage with the oils along the spine. While the mechanical treatments that have been administered should be kept, the oils should be added.
-
(Q) What is the condition of the spinal cord? (A) As indicated from the suggestions, this is very well understood. It is very good, though these reflexes are of course hindered.
-
(Q) How can the involuntary action of the bladder and bowels be controlled? (A) By those centers from which these are reflexed, in the spinal system being brought better to coordination. Even the rubbing with the oils will aid in this direction.
The application of Glyco-Thymoline Packs on bowel and over bladder area or at the pubic center, will also aid in relieving these tensions; thus aiding the body to gain control.
-
(Q) Is there any manner in which to improve walking with the braces and crutches? (A) Not as yet - not until there is more stamina, or conditions are better controlled through the spine and the nerve forces.
-
(Q) Are any of the nerves damaged so that regeneration is not probable? (A) As we find, only nerve ends are damaged. And these with the proper massage, especially with properties indicated, will be aided. Also the low electrical forces should be beneficial.
-
(Q) Will the sensory nerves improve with the improvement of motor nerves? How can this be best brought about? (A) These should improve.
Do as indicated for better conditions; though these will depend much of course upon responses in the mental forces of the body.
- We are through with this reading.

R1. 10/26/43 [3262]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have received with a great deal of interest the copy of the Psychic Reading given for me October 4, 1943, 4:00 to 4:15 P.M. EWT.
I shall appreciate very much if you will endeavor to clarify certain points as follows.
Mrs. Cayce: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing condition also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
Mr. C: Yes, we have the body here. As we find, conditions are very well understood with this body. The applications are good; save we would not use sinusoidal as the electrotherapy treatment, but rather the heat wave - or the diathermy, and this not too heavy.
What are conditions in this body at the present time? What are the causes?
By the statement - conditions are very well understood in this body - whom does it mean has this understanding?
In what area of the body should the heat wave as diathermy be applied? And how frequently?
Q-1. What bearing does the reflex action of muscles of affected parts have upon the potential voluntary action of these muscles - as the extensors of knees and feet? A-1. These as we find are reflexes that are a part of the control through the necessary changes that should be wrought by the massage with oils along the spine. While the mechanical treatments that have been administered should be kept, the oils should be added.
I have copied this question and answer just as it has been sent to me. Can you make this answer comprehensible for me? This group of words are quite void of meaning to me.
It mentions mechanical treatments that have been administered. I have never had any type of mechanical therapy to my knowledge and I am wondering if, in your terminology, mechanical may have a different meaning.
Can you advise me as to how frequently the Glyco-Thymoline Packs should be applied to the abdomen? Was the question asked regarding an outline of procedure for physical therapy? I note it is not mentioned in this report.
We are applying the Glyco-Thymoline Packs and the Peanut Oil has been ordered from Chicago.
Also we have now engaged the services of an osteopath.
R2. 11/2/43 Ltr. from EC to [3262]: ”…Replying to yours of the 26th, the questions you asked about, I believe, refer to who ever has been giving you the treatment, or your Doctor who has treated you. And the suggestions to give the heat wave rather than the sinusoidal, the diathermy is usually applied to those of the central nerve system and the area about the gall duct, caecum area. But whoever has been treating should know what to do.
“I do not know whether I know how to answer the questions or not-; unless, you can find something yourself that answers them. Your physician or Doctor should be able to explain it to you, unless he takes the attitude that this all is a lot of hocus-pocus.
“The mechano-therapy, I think here, is treating with some kind of machines, such as the electrotherapy machines, that you have had. If not, this is one of the instances where the information was not given, and if you wish to return it to us, we will refund the fee.
“The packs would be used, just when they were needed to relieve pain. Evidently, the person asking the questions felt it would be answered in, along with, another one, or the information was cut off, before the question was answered.
“Thanking you, and hoping that we may be the means of a service…”
R3. 11/16/43 [3262]‘s letter to EC: ”…I should like to make application for a check reading. It is my belief that in so doing we may better be able to understand the original reading given Oct. 4 - 1943. Perhaps if I were to explain the circumstances it will give you an idea as to why we are so certain you can help.
“In an automobile accident over two years ago my back was fractured with resulting injury to the spinal cord. This left me completely paralyzed from the waist down. At the time of the operation to remove the crushed bone the cord was found to be intact but damaged. In the reading you gave it was most encouraging to learn that just the nerve endings were damaged.
“We have started treatment with an osteopath and would like to know if the adjustments are proper or may be improved upon…”
R4. 1/8/44 [3262]‘s letter to EC: ”…Enclosed please find questions to be asked at the time of my reading January 19, 1944 - 10:30 to 11:30 E.W.T.
“I shall devote this hour to prayer and meditation and will be located at … St., … Mich.
“The attending osteopathic physician has read the book, There Is A River, and he is very willing to cooperate in any way possible. The last two questions are things he is very desirous of knowing.”
- Are the Glyco-Thymoline Packs and the oil solutions of Peanut Oil and Olive Oil suggested in the first reading being properly administered to obtain the desired results?
- Have the proper osteopathic adjustments been made?
- Has there been any definite progress made since the time of the last reading and when should the next check reading be given?
DR.‘S QUESTIONS
- Is the spinal cord completely severed? If not, how much if any is functioning?
- Is the spinal canal open or is it blocked by some bone formation? Is there any pressure on the cord obstructing the nerve tracts and if so how can it be corrected?…

B1. 6/14/43 [3262]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
A friend of mine has generously loaned me the book “There Is A River” by Thomas Sugrue. A very good friend of hers gave a review of the book and I understand visited you for some days.
The book is very interesting to me, not only because of my great physical need but also because I am endeavoring to develop my spiritual self.
Some two years ago I was injured in an accident. Since that time I have been an invalid confined to my bed or chair. I do have the use of my arms and my eyes, and for this and many other things I am very thankful.
My dearest blessings are my husband who has perfect faith that somehow, sometime I will recover and a young son, now three years of age.
