This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 5th day of May, 1933, in accordance with request made by her son, Mr. [417], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis, H. L. and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before, Mrs. [327].
-
Now, while we find conditions rather serious, and the resistance less efficient, as we find, there may be added that to and for the system that will enable the body to create or make for better resistances in the physical forces of the body.
-
While this application would at times be rather strenuous for the body, if these treatments are given in the proper way and manner we find this will reduce the pressure on the heart’s action, it will eliminate much of the poisons that disturb the circulation, it will remove those pressures that make for the tendency of swelling in portions of the system - especially in the lower limbs and feet; it would also remove those pressures that disturb the functioning of the kidneys in their normal way and manner and relieve the irritation to the muco-membranes of throat, head, digestive system, fullness in the stomach area, tendency for palpitation of the heart, those sinking spells that occur, undue weakness in portions of the system, etc. For, these effects, as we find, are from toxic forces or conditions that exist throughout the system.
-
In making the applications, then, we would use the high enemas to relieve the pressure in the colon, and to allow the better circulation throughout the system.
-
It will be necessary that precautions be taken and that this be done with the idea in mind that there must not be too great an irritation to those portions in the system that have caused so much disorder and trouble, from the tendency of the constipation to produce the hemorrhoids and their resultant conditions in the system.
-
But use the type of enema that will gradually break up those impactions; and there should ever be used an antiseptic with each enema taken (and there should be at least two taken each week, until six or eight have been taken, see?).
-
At each operation in giving the enema, you see there should be - at some portion of the period - the use of Petrolagar and Glyco-Thymoline in the waters injected. Also at a portion of the period there should be used those properties of bicarbonate of soda (plain baking soda) and salt. The proportions would be as this:
-
With the first injections, use - to the gallon of water - a level teaspoonful of salt and two teaspoonsful of soda.
-
When the oils are used, put in a tablespoonful of the oil (or Petrolagar, and be sure to use the Non-acid) and a tablespoonful of the Glyco-Thymoline, to a quart and a half of water.
-
We would be mindful that the general stimuli for the system be kept.
-
Keep the body quiet; and it would be well that those properties given for the allaying of the inflammation and swelling (in the activities of the conditions in rectum) be used. These may be applied - for the higher portions - in the enema, with the oils that are used with same - as K.Y. [?] Jelly.
-
Be mindful that the diet is not too much of a strain for the digestive system.
-
We will find that the general massage will be helpful if given once, or twice even, each day.
-
The bathing of the feet in hot mustard water will be beneficial also.
-
For those conditions that disturb in head, and the pressures on same, we would massage those oils that may be combined in this manner - for the cervical area, back of head, and in temples:
-
To 2 ounces of pure olive oil, add:
Oil of Cedar [Pinus Cembra?]…1/2 ounce, Oil of Cadmond [Cardamon?]…1/2 ounce, Oil of Sassafras…1/4 ounce.
-
The Sassafras Oil tends to separate. Hence it is necessary that this solution be shaken well before each application is made, or before a quantity is poured for application. Pour about a tablespoonful in a saucer, and massage all that the body will absorb - from between the shoulders to the base of brain, temple and head, see?
-
Do this, [327].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What special type of enema was referred to? (A) Just that precautions be taken so there is not injury, nor great distress caused, with the condition in rectum - when enema is given. Do not try to dilate, then, too much. Use a small enema, see?
But these poisons must be removed, if we will bring about better conditions.
These treatments, to be sure, are to be added to the stimuli already given.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/8/33 Mr. [417]‘s letter: “Rec’d the rdg. Many thanks to you. I have tried to fill the prescription for Mother and find I can’t locate Oil of Cadmond any place. Did GD have the right spelling on this oil? If so, where can it be had? Would appreciate this information as soon as possible. [He requested 758-37 for his son.]
“Mother feeling a little better today and hope she continues.”
R2. 5/11/33 EC’s ltr.: “The oil you asked about should be Cardamon, made from Cardamon seed. You will probably be able to obtain this from Eimer & Amend, 18th St. & Third Ave., N.Y.C., as we have found them heretofore to be about the best source of supply for all such things. I hope you will have no trouble in getting it.”
R3. 8/28/33 Son [417]‘s letter: “My father [372] and mother [327] are both very sick and I have them down at the beach in L.I. They both need rdgs. but I hope they will stay well until they return, as they can’t follow out the treatments where they are.”
R4. 1/4/34 EC wrote Mr. [417] a sympathy letter in re death of his father - see under 372-8 Reports.
R5. 11/19/34 Mrs. [327] was present in N.Y.C. for a Mental-Spiritual Rdg., 327-5, seeking advice in re work to be self-supporting after death of her husband, in which she also asked questions about dizzy spells. Colonic irrigations were recommended.
R6. 11/19/49 E.C.F. campaign worker Helen Wenzel reported: “Mrs. [327] lives with her son [5531]. She had a stroke two months ago. Has recovered use of limbs, but not speech. Interviewed her son. He was most gracious [see under 5531-1 Reports]… At present he cannot give anything due to great expense of his mother’s illness. He took the pledge card, though, out of respect for his mother’s interests. Believes he may be able to send in a contribution. Seems to hinge on whether or not his mother recovers. He said that Mrs. [327] still reads the book A SEARCH FOR GOD every morning.”
R7. 10/11/52 Comment by D. H. Fogel, M.D., heart specialist, after studying Mrs. [327]‘s readings:
“Case [327] is one of hypertension, edema of legs, possibly phlebitis.”
R8. Letter from Mrs. W. Strum, Enfield, CT: “Is the prescription through this file [Hemorrhoids] “Petrogalar”? I’m familiar with Petrogalar but couldn’t find one “Petrolagar”.
7/5/74 Response to above: “Ingram’s Pharmacy, Va. Beach, says that these are one in the same and that petrogalar is the petrolagar called for in the Cayce readings.” ROC
