GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3279].
-
As we find, there are conditions that prevent the better physical functioning; these, we find, are the effects of bacilli in the system as related to activity in the lungs, and the effect produced upon the general system.
-
The blood supply is deficient in the red blood cells, also in leucocytes. This is the effect produced by the system’s attempting to rebuild the structural forces in the body.
-
This destructive force - of leucocyte being deficient, causes superacidity through the system. This, then, prevents the body from building up or destroying the bacilli activity in lung.
-
As we find, while the rest is well for the body, if there would be added those properties that will supply the glandular force, the digestive forces and the activities as related to same, we may rebuild.
-
Hence we would continue with those corrections that have been made, and stimulating activity, that is, the corrections in the cerebrospinal system, though these should not be made too heavy.
-
Also we would add to the body those properties found in Acigest. Take only a teaspoonful in a glass of raw milk, preferably at the evening meal, about twice each week in the beginning, - say Tuesdays and Fridays. In about two months, we would increase this to three times a week, and then in about another month, increase to five days a week.
-
Also we would add Calcios as a strengthening to the supply of calcium in the body. This would be taken twice each week, preferably at the noon meal. Spread a whole wheat cracker thinly with Calcios and eat it. After a month or six weeks we would increase this to three days a week, and so on.
-
These would be taken regularly until there is supplied in the body sufficient elements in the digestive forces to meet the resistances in the body.
-
We would also supply the fumes from pure apple brandy in a charred oak keg, kept where evaporation will take place rather heavily though not too hot. Keep this well corked. Do not inhale too much at first, only one or two inhalations. This will act as an antiseptic as well as being healing properties for the lungs. Inhale only the fumes that arise from same. Keep half a gallon of apple brandy in the gallon and a half keg prepared so that there may be a vent for air and a tube for inhaling the fumes into the lungs.
-
We would keep the diet rather in body building forces; sea foods two or three times a week, beef juice taken occasionally. Even if the beef juice is taken regularly as medicine two or three days each week it will be well for the body.
-
Do these, and keep out of night air. Keep the body from getting the feet wet or damp, that is, out of doors in the dew or mud or the like - though keep the body clean.
-
And we will find we will make better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/31/44 [3279]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I began my treatments October 17, 1943. This is my first report.
I got the equipment and ingredients necessary for my case as per instructions. But in trying to get HILDRICK’S PURE APPLE BRANDY the only brandy that the dealers in New York City, and I inquired at a number of places, had heard of and were able to supply was HILDRICK’S APPLE JACK BRANDY. Even the brand name is spelled differently. Will you please let me know if these brandys are the same.
I have not felt any changes in my physical condition. I have had frequent severe sore throats this winter. Still my chest colds have not been so intense as they have been in previous winters. Soon after I began the inhalations, along in November and December my sputum revealed streaks of blood. These manifestations lasted for a duration of two or three days. My sputum has not shown any of these symptoms since. Yet through all this, my temperature has been normal.
I am wondering if it would not be advisable to place myself in line for a check reading.
I have taken on the responsibility of teaching the Bible Class in my Sunday School and the moments I spend there are a source of real joy for me.
Though I have a fairly good position with, I believe, an excellent future, I have been restless with my work. I do not know if it is a natural restlessness that comes to all people at some time or other - or is it something deeper.
Christian work is of great interest to me, and considering my sinful self, I still feel that maybe the Lord could use me in his fields. You have asked us to consider our lives - Are they worth healing? I wonder how Paul would have answered that question, especially when he calls himself a sinner ‘of whom I am chief.’
There are so many things that I would like to do in Christian work but my physical capacity is always a question mark.
I think the Lord has given me an enthusiasm and love for His work. Where can I use it - in my present position or elsewhere? Is it spirit led or is it self? Oh how I wish I knew! I often fail my Lord in my thoughts and my acts, yet I know He always forgives.
Would a Life reading answer my questions as to where I belong in God’s plan of life? ‘Not my will, but Thine, be done.’
I had the privilege to hear you speak at Steinway Hall when you were in New York. I had no idea what to expect. It was called a ‘Psychology Forum’ but when I heard a good old fashioned sermon my heart sang. How we need ‘Christian Forums’, we ‘generation of vipers.’
May God continue to give you strength and bless you and those who assist you in your work…”
R2. 4/10/44 EC’s ltr. to [3279]: ”…I have yours of the 31st. I am sorry that you have had trouble obtaining the ingredients for the brandy keg. The information has insisted from time to time that Apple Jack is not the kind of brandy we should get, but the pure apple brandy. Apple Jack apparently has not been re-distilled.
I don’t know just where to tell you to obtain it, but I know that this has been given and many people throughout the country have gotten it. I believe you will find a great difference if you could get the pure apple brandy. Don’t swallow when you are doing the inhaling, else you will get a great deal of the gas in the stomach, which wouldn’t be best. I am sure if you will follow the suggestions you will get real results.
I am certainly glad to know of your interest in Sunday School and the work. I am sure you find it very gratifying.
I am very sure that if you will follow the suggestions, and with your study and application of the truths in spiritual things, you will get real results.
Yes, I believe the Life Reading would answer many of your questions. It might answer many of them in just the same way as you expressed it, ‘Not my will, but Thine be done.’ That, of course, should be as a response of direct appreciation and recognition of the divine within the individual.
I am glad you were pleased with the talk in New York.
Do let us hear from you, and if we can be of any help, know we will be glad to do so…”
R3. 4/24/44 [3279]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…Thank you for your ltr. of April 10th.
With further reference to the pure apple brandy: can you tell me who the distillers are? If not, is there a person using this brandy inhalant from whom we can get the name and address of the distillers? This is usually on the bottle.
I called the Hildrick Apple Brandy Co. at their New York City office and they were of the opinion that their apple jack brandy was the same as apple brandy. In other words ‘apple jack’ was just a trade name.
Not being satisfied, I have written to their chemist in Scobeyville, N.J. and also to the Laird Distillers in the same town.
With all these irons in the fire there should be some clue soon.
Thanks for all your patience and service…”
R4. 4/29/44 EC’s ltr. to [3279]: ”…Yours of the 24th has been received. The manufacture of Apple Jack may be correct, but the information has never agreed to that. The best so far as the readings are concerned, though I don’t know any of these people who put it up, but it is put up by Laird & Company, Scobeyville, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The distilleries are at Lyons, New York, and Scobeyville, New Jersey. This is what the information has suggested a good many times.
It seems that you have had some correspondence with these same people, but the Laird Pot distilled brandy, 86.4 proof is the kind.
Thanks a lot, and let us hear from you…”
R5. 5/17/44 [3279]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I am enclosing a copy of a letter received from Laird & Company in reference to an inquiry about the inhalant I am using: HILDRICK’S APPLE JACK BRANDY. In your last letter you advised me to use LAIRD’S APPLE BRANDY. In my original mimeographed instructions, which included a diagram of the keg, it mentioned HILDRICK’S APPLE BRANDY. Evidently this latter brand is the same as that mentioned above.
Proceeding under the assumption that I have been using the correct liquor I think it advisable to place myself in line for a check reading for which I am enclosing a check for ten dollars.
This past winter I have had a number of sore throats but otherwise feel about the same. Last Saturday I did some work in my garden and felt rather tired after I was through. I have had a bronchial cold for the past week and have been discharging quite a bit of mucus. I state some of these facts thinking they might have some bearing on the case, that yesterday morning my sputum had quite a bit of blood in it and continued so until late after-noon when the streaking abated. Possibly there may a cleaning out of the cavity in the process of healing, I pray that it is so. But I would feel better if I were in line for a check reading just in case I am not progressing as I ought.
Thanking you for all your kindness…”

Mr. [3279] … L.I., New York
Dear Mr. [3279]:
We have your letter of April 23 in which you have told us of your difficulty in obtaining a pure Apple Brandy which you want to use for bronchial inhalation. You mention the fact that Apple Jack Brandy will not do for this purpose.
I am afraid you are a little confused by the terms now applied to Apple Brandy.
Prior to Repeal an apple distillation was popularly called Apple Jack. As of Repeal, the United States Government issued a definition of Apple Brandy which really meant the exact type of apple distillation that we are putting out under the trade names of Laird’s Apple Brandy and Hildrick’s Apple Jack Brandy.
In other words, Apple Jack may still be a common nick-name for Apple Brandy. I have frequently heard our Apple Brandy ordered at a bar by the term “APPLE JACK”. As a matter of fact, this is pure Apple Brandy regardless of the fact that it is occasionally called by its old nick-name.
Both of the above Apple Brandy products are sold through all the New York liquor wholesalers directly to retailers. We are quite certain that if you purchase either of the above brands you will find them entirely satisfactory for the use you have in mind.
With kindest personal regards.
Very truly yours, LAIRD & COMPANY [signed] H. C. Hancock
R6. 7/7/44 Questions:
- Should the cough be encouraged? If so, how may this be brought about with the least effort? (temp. 102 - some oozing - not much tendency to cough.)
- Will more hemorrhages be encouraged in the natural course of healing?
- (If drugs are suggested) Where in N.Y. can these be secured?
- Is a doctor needed to carry out these treatments; if so, would you recommend one?
- Please advise as to amount of bed rest, exercise and activity.
- Should chiropractic treatments be resumed when he is able; if so, give suggestions? for more beneficial treatments. (“Changed chiropractors.”)
- Have the 2 kinds of Apple Brandy I have used been correct? If not, where may the correct brand be obtained? (“The Laird Co. has advised me that their ‘Hildrick Apple Jack Brandy’ is a pure apple brandy and the so-called ‘Apple Jack’ is simply a trade name. As it has been difficult to obtain liquor in NYC., I have also used Mackintosh Apple Jack Brandy.”)
- What is the explanation for the hemorrhages - and the streaking?
- What can be done toward decreasing the frequency of head and chest colds, associated with severe sore throats and continuous nasal and bronchial discharge?
- What causes occasional severe headaches and what should the treatment be?
- Does my condition merit sun baths during the summer?
- Will exercise such as walking and swimming be beneficial or detrimental when I have recuperated from recent backset?
- How can I rouse from my lethargy? Is it origin mental or physical?
R7. 8/10/44 Report phoned by wife: ”…Had his first hemorrhage on Aug. 4th about 10 a.m., then had about 7 covering a period of 36 hrs. Afterwards started running temperature of 102 to 104-6. Sun. & Mon. it was 104 and above. Then on Tues. it started falling a little bit. Yesterday & today it has been between 102 & 103-6. The doctor has wanted him in the hospital from the beginning. On Sun. a room was available - none since. They want to X-ray, have another pneumothorax couldn’t get it some years ago because of pleurisy. The next thing they wanted was a thorical plastic. I’m a graduate nurse and can take care of him at home using whatever is advised in rdg…”
R8. 8/11/44 Phoned again: ”…Temperature 102, some oozing, not much tendency to cough. Please phone results of rdg. to …, N.Y…”

Background
Background
B1. 8/22/43 [3279]‘s letter: ”…I have had tuberculosis for a number of years. About 1936 I entered the Lenox Hill Hospital, N.Y., N.Y., in the last stages of this disease. With strict bed-rest and a phrenic operation on my right lung, both lungs began to heal. After 4 months they sent me home under the care of one of their staff physicians, where I was to continue my bed-rest. I remained in bed for about 2 yrs. and my lungs continued to heal. Then I got a severe bronchial cold that set me back and which made me raise much mucous. Because of that setback the Dr. decided that I had better have some of my ribs removed in order to cause an artificial collapse of my lungs. This I refused to do. Then someone recommended a chiropractor, so I left my bed and began my treatments with the chiropractor. This I am doing to this day. Then about 2 yrs. ago I returned to work. But in spite of all my treatments, an x-ray I had taken a few months ago showed that there still was some activity. I do get frequent colds. These are preceded by severe sore throats which always lead to congestion in my lungs. I have never been too weak to work but I do become extremely tired at times.”
B2. 9/8/43 ”…As to questions, I am not too sure what to ask in order to bring out the fullest particulars of and for my case. Perhaps, in the light of your experiences, you could suggest my questions.”
B3. 10/4/43 ”…A few weeks ago I was alarmed to see a few streaks of blood in my sputum.”
