This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of August, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - through Mrs. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.Y.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, as we find conditions have been very serious. The tendencies for the flow, or the conditions through the lungs, were bad. This is not so bad in the present.

3. Do follow through with the suggestions given. The inhalations of brandy can be done too much at once; for it can strangulate and thus bring on a coughing which causes or produces the hemorrhage. Just inhale a little of this often; that is, two or three times a day or four times a day will be much better than trying to take so much at once. The other properties will give the strength. If the tendency for hemorrhage should reoccur, prepare this: Put two drops of Oil of Eucalyptus, three drops of Compound Tincture of Benzoin, one-half drop Rectified Oil of Turp. This can be taken in spoon, then followed immediately with one-quarter grain codeine. One dose should be sufficient to stop hemorrhage and will prove much preferable to the shots or collapsing of lung. This will prevent hemorrhage if taken properly.

4. Do that. Then follow through with the rest of the suggestions and do keep that spiritual attitude of hopefulness to be of helpfulness to others.

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Should the cough be encouraged? (A) No. While this at times tends to get rid of the mucous and phlegm, these and the other properties taken tend to make the system able to handle such without infection being produced in other tissue, see?

7. (Q) Have the two kinds of Apple Brandy I have used been correct? (A) That which is just Apple Brandy is preferable. Either of these will be very well.

8. (Q) Should chiropractic treatments be resumed when he is able? (A) A little bit later, yes - not in the present.

9. (Q) What is the explanation for the hemorrhages - and the streaking? (A) Too great a strain produced by the paroxysms of contraction in the lung with an overamount of circulation being brought, and stresses upon certain centers with the applications of the Apple Brandy were such as to cause these.

Do as outlined.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

God be Praised!

What a change in this household since the arrival of the wire telling us of your unexpected return to Virginia Beach, and your willingness to help us in our need! We feel it a Heaven sent miracle! - all our uncertainties evaporated into complete assurance of God’s helping and healing hand. He has taken over our burden completely and all we need to do is meet each situation as best we can. Our hearts were made light in His strength and love. My! What a change complete confidence in God can make!

By the time of the reading, [3279]‘s mental condition had improved so greatly, no doubt his physical condition improved also at the same time.

He had two threatened hemorrhages on Saturday 8/12, one on Sunday 8/13 and one this morning, all of which were most promptly stopped by administering the medication as ordered in the reading. His temperature has gradually receded to 100.4 @ 8:00 this A.M. and 101.4 at 4:00 & 8:00 P.M. We decided to wait at least 24 hrs after his last threatened hemorrhage before beginning the brandy inhalations.

I tried contacting the Doctors, whose names were given me as knowing your work, on Saturday morning, but none were available. However, Dr. Fenton Taylor will be at his office tomorrow and I shall try to reach him then.

We had portable X-Rays taken this evening at 6:00 P.M. for future reference, but due to some difficulty or accident in their development, will have to be retaken tomorrow.

In my anxiety those first days, and in the excitement surrounding the reading, I’m afraid I failed sadly in my other obligations. No mention was made of fees in my conversations with the office, but in that it was suggested we keep [3279]‘s appt. for check reading on August 25th, I do want to properly account for the one last Friday 8/11. Therefore, check enclosed. However, it can never measure my gratitude.

When [3279]‘s condition warrants it, I shall return to my work with the Brooklyn Visiting Nurses Ass’n., and hope that I can fulfill every opportunity to help and serve to the best of my ability those with whom I come in contact.

Within the next few days I will prepare a letter with questions for the 8/25/44 reading.

R2. 8/20/44 Wife’s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce;

Anticipating my husband’s check reading on August 25th ([3279]), I am enclosing a few notes on his progress since his last reading on 8/11/44 - for his record, and also questions for the reading.

His temperature has been making a slow but steady decline to 100.3 @ 8:00 A.M., 101 @ 4 P.M., 101.6 @ 8 P.M. He had two beginning hemorrhages on 8/12, one on 8/13 and one on 8/14, all of which were promptly stopped by giving one dose of the mixture prescribed in the last reading, as 2 qrts Oil of Eucalyptus, 3 qrts Comp. Tr. Benzoin and 1/2 qrt rectified Oil of Tup. The general condition seems good. [3279] has been greatly disturbed by the urge to cough, and has brought up small amounts of old blood and mucus, on occasions. He perspires profusely, especially at night, feels generally weak, little appetite, altho he takes a fair amount of nourishment, bowel action good, and sleeps fairly well.

The X-Rays taken 8/15 report the following:-

Diffuse mottled infiltration present in mid-portion of right lung. A few scattered calcified tubercles present in upper portion of the left lung. There is haziness in both apices, probably due to pleural thickening. No free fluid present. No evidence of cauitation at present time. Mediastinal structures appear normal in size and position. Right diaphragm appears to be drawn upward - (Rt. phrenestomy) Findings appear to be those of an active tuberculosis, superimposed upon a chronic tuberculosis.

The attending physician whishes X-Rays to be retaken at office in a week or two as [3279]‘s condition permits. He prescribed Amytol grs. 1 1/2 at bedtime for sleep.

On 8/18 the temperature at 8:00 AM was as usual 100.4, but went to 102.6 at 12:00 noon, due, he felt to excitement and nervousness because I was leaving his mother in attendance and I was going to return to work for the afternoon. The temp. rose to 103.8 by 6:00 P.M. on my return. I reported to the Doctor, and the next day (8/19) the temp. was down within usual limits, with no complaints except slight sore throat. He was seen by the Doctor in the P.M. who felt the rise in temp was due to emotional upset and advised against my return to work for at least a week when he felt [3279]‘s condition and his emotional stability would be more disposed to stand strain of removal of his dependence on me. The doctor advised pushing fluids, normal saline throat irrigations and Neosynephrine nose gtts. He also ordered Codeine for cough with the Amytol at bedtime for sleep.

Today 8/20 the sore throat has disappeared and the temp. within usual limits 100.4 - 101.8.

We started with whiffs of brandy (inhalation) on 8/16. He has been taking Acigest regularly as usual and tho our supply of Calcios is at the office, it will be resumed as soon as the ordered supply arrives.

A Gatch bed will be delivered here tomorrow so as to facilitate a raised position to allow for some self care and for eating.

The following questions are for the reading on 8/25/44.

Condition and treatment? Has there been any improvement? Can choking expectorations be relieved? Are inhalations being taken correctly? Do the sedatives taken inhibit progress? How long should bedrest be continued? When should chiropractic adjustments be begun? With satisfactory progress when can I return to my employment? What treatment should be given for sore throats, sinus and bronchial trouble as experienced in the past, in fall and winter, if they reoccur?

We would also like an appointment for another reading in about 3 months, when the question regarding employment may be better answered. I will send check as you indicate. We are so grateful, and hope we may do some real work when this experience is over.
