This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 5th day of November, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [338], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Miss [338].]
Time of Reading … St., 11:15 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [338]; this we have had before - [338].
-
Now as we find, conditions are much improved from that as we have had here before.
-
There is a more normalcy in the pulsation, and improvement in the pressure, and a better coordination between the heart’s activity and the hepatic circulation.
-
As we find, those administrations that have been given are very well.
-
The only alteration we would give would be a stimulation to the activity of the lower hepatic circulation, or that the activities of the system in creating this balance through the circulatory forces might be aided in the activities of the kidneys as combined with the upper - or the liver and the assimilating system.
-
It is well that the evacuation of the colon be kept in a condition where there is no effect of greater toxic forces through absorption in same.
-
This will also remove the inclinations for pressures from that in the left portion of same where the indications have been for some reaction to the upper circulation.
-
With the rest we would keep much in the manner as has been indicated.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Are the osteopathic manipulations applied properly? (A) As indicated, these are very good; and are in keeping with that as has been indicated. The only suggestion here would be a little stimulation for the activities as given, to the lower hepatic circulation.
-
(Q) Is the heart condition organic or functional? (A) As we find, it is functional rather than organic; though the stresses through the physical reactions - as well as the mental or emotional - have made for that inclination for an engorging of those areas between the heart proper AND the liver circulation.
Hence that stimulation as indicated for the lower hepatic, so as to relieve not only the stress of activity through same but to relieve that tension which has at times existed there, owing to the attempt of the system to be sure - to eliminate used energies that are naturally a portion of the eliminations through those parts of the system, or those channels of the system.
- (Q) Will the treatment as outlined take care of the muscular unbalance of the eyes or should special work be given for this? (A) The general stimulation as we find should bring near to a normal condition for the circulation.
Owing to the stress or pressures as indicated in the upper portion of the dorsal and naturally the reflex through the upper part of the pneumogastric (or now called the vagus centers), these should make for such an improvement as to make - with the general health - a better circulation, and thus an improvement to the optic circulation.
- (Q) What method should be used for the eliminations? (A) As we have given, the eliminations are better created by the eliminating of the pressure in the colon - or by the high colonic irrigation.
Then when these poisons are eliminated, or when this is used - there should be used in such a colonic, of course, a saline and soda solution; so there is not irritation made to the mucous membranes of the colon. Such a colonic should only be given sufficiently often to prevent accumulations, or to keep a normal activity through same.
This does not necessitate the attempting to drain, as it were, those portions across the colon area or to the caecum centers.
But the stimulating osteopathically those areas, WITH the removal of the pressure in the transverse and a part of the descending colon, should be sufficient to keep the eliminations near to normal activity.
In the matter of the diet and the manner of the natural activities of the body, these should be such as to keep the normal eliminations.
When there is the necessity of the laxatives or cathartics, do not use those of the severe nature but rather the vegetable compounds than the minerals, for this body.
For the natural inclinations of the body are to be sensitive, supersensitive to vibratory forces. Hence the milder natures of the vegetable compounds, as in those properties having senna as the base - or such nature, may be used. These as we find are the preferable.
- (Q) When will be the time to return to art school? [See 338-4.] (A) When the strength is sufficient for the body to feel the inclination for creative activity from the reflexes of the imaginative system; that is, there are naturally those influences in the activity of the body when the impulses arise for activity in creative forces as related to that portion of the whole program or activity of the body in relation to the art.
Hence this will come gradually. Do not overtax self but let this become a part of the self, as it naturally is, in that it supplies an outlet for the mental as well as the physical self.
- (Q) Did the dream in which I met the personality of death have significance concerning the psychic body or physical body? (A) Both. In this we see the indications of the psychic or soul self being able to conquer through that being builded within self the abilities to carry on or to accomplish. Not giving up, not becoming excited, not becoming overanxious; other than knowing that the strength of the divine remains with those that seek to know and do the biddings.
The physical activity was meeting the physical activities of same.
Hence the body has that promise, as it were, in self, of the opportunities to carry on.
Hold fast to those things that have been indicated in that for the meditations and the prayer in self. As these again we would give, in thine own self, in thine own purpose, in thine own words, in thine own way put these thoughts when ye meditate:
FATHER, GOD, MAKER OF THE HEAVENS AND EARTH! THY SERVANT, THY CHILD, SEEKS GRACE, MERCY, PEACE, HARMONY; THAT I - AS THY CHILD - MAY GIVE TO THOSE I MAY CONTACT DAY BY DAY, A CONCEPT OF THY LOVE TO THE CHILDREN OF MEN.
LET MY LIFE BE CREATIVE, AS IS EXEMPLIFIED IN THY SON - MY BROTHER, MY SAVIOR, MY CHRIST!
I AM THINE! THEN USE ME AS THOU SEEST THAT I MAY FILL THAT PURPOSE THOU HAST FOR ME TO DO - NOW!
- We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/8/37 [338]‘s letter: “This morning I received my check physical reading. It certainly is an inspiration to me to keep going no matter how hard the way may be. I needed that inspiration.”
R2. 6/7/38 Dr. Frank P. Dobbins’ reply to Questionnaire:
Q-1a. Did the reading presented to you describe the condition of the patient? “Yes.” Q-1b. Explain any variation. [No answer] Q-1c. Give technical diagnosis. “Myocarditis.” Q-2. Were the suggestions for treatment in your opinion proper for this condition? “Yes.” Q-3. For what period of time has the patient followed directions given in the reading under your care? “Three months.” Q-4. What results have you observed? “Patient improved up to and until such times as she would overdo; there would then be a relapse.” Q-5 Comment. “This patient should be in an institution.”
R3. 6/38 [338]‘s letter:
“This very late letter to tell you how sorry I am not to be with you all at the Congress. I waited until the last minute, thinking perhaps that I would be well enough to go, but know now that it would be a rash thing to do. It was just a year ago this time that I was taken down. Well - I know that I am getting better and that means a lot, even though it is slow. After I saw you in N.Y. at Mr. Kahn’s home I felt quite well for a while and continued treatment with Dr. Dobbins, but then I gradually went down and had to stick to the bed - until I got up gumption to come home to Boston. I had a nurse with me four months, and just left N.Y. a few days before HLC went there [3/8/38]. Tell him I was sorry not to be around when he was there. I surely would have done what I could.
“The hot weather here is bad and especially so as I keep to the bed most of the time. I know that the Congress will be a success even though I am not there, but I will be with you in spirit, and send out my love to you all. When the weather is cooler during the latter part of the summer perhaps I will be well enough to visit Virginia Beach. I look forward to it.”
R4. 7/15/38 [338] wired for emergency Check Physical reading, 403-3, for her mother.
R5. 12/14/38 [338] contributed to the building of a safety vault for the EC records, saying: “I want you to know that I will do all I can - and as time goes on may be able to do better …I have had all kinds of setbacks, and have been in the N.Y. Hospital, before I came down here Daytona Beach, Fla.]
the middle of November - but one of these days I am going to either sit down and write you or pack a bag and go to Virginia Beach for a few days. I am much better since coming south, and know the winter here will do wonders for me.”
R6. 4/11/39 [338]‘s letter: “I am improving steadily in health, and am doing my best to make it a permanent cure, with the help of God. The climate certainly agrees with me so far, although we had rather a cold winter, I thought.” [See rest of 4/11/39 Letter under 338-3 Reports.]
R7. 4/22/39 [338] requested Check Physical reading 1211-3 for her brother.
R8. 6/18/39 [338] wired that she was called home to Boston on account of her brother [1211]‘s condition.
R9. 6/18/40 [338] wrote about serious illness of her mother, Mrs. [403].
R10. 9/26/40 [338] wired about sudden death of her beloved brother, [256].
R11. 10/23/40 [338]‘s letter: “I have not been well - am struggling to pass this period of depression which reacts badly on my heart - for I have much work to do in my Father’s vineyard. Mother [403] and [brother [1211]] are problems in themselves - so near to death, and still they live. God’s will be done - we all have our crosses. I am like an old worn-out horse trying to get on its feet. When I do I will spend a few days at Virginia Beach.”
R12. 12/12/40 [338]‘s letter: “Most of the month of November I spent in the hospital, so could not get to N.Y. while you were there, which disappointed me greatly. I was very ill with a most awful pain in my head. They could not do much for me except keep me under with drugs. Had several x-rays of the head but they found nothing. As I have high blood pressure they finally attributed it partly to that and partly my nerves. I have been in bed here at home ever since coming from the hospital. Have been trying desperately to get well enough to go away for a while, but don’t seem to be able to make it. Although I had a short ‘heart attack’ while in the hospital I don’t feel that all is due to a heart condition. I have no faith in the doctors - they have never been able to do much for me. The only help I have ever had is through my Physical Readings that you gave me in the past. I am writing this to ask you if I may have a Check Physical reading. I will certainly appreciate it and carry it out to the letter…”
