Background) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 27th day of May, 1933, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [339], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [345].

Born April 2, 1910, in Portland, Maine. Time of Reading … Street, 4:50 to 5:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Philadelphia, Penna. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe, and universal forces, as related to the entity now known as [339].

2. This entity comes among those periods in the astrological positions, as we have given, that govern the relationships of those entering the earth’s plane who come from the Atlantean influences, and who come in those periods when their aspects - with those influences in Uranus - make them individuals upon whom much responsibility will rest, and upon whom the thought and the activities of this generation must depend.

3. And the activities will be dependent upon the will of the entity, and the application in its experience of that it knows as relating to the universal influence or law (or love) in the earth’s plane, in THIS experience.

4. Hence there will be little or no middle ground, for there will be either the very successful life or experience - from what has been set, and is set, as the ideal; or there will be just the opposite.

5. Hence, as we find from the astrological aspect, these are the ruling influences innate and expressed in this entity’s experience; for, while those of this sojourn in one portion of this period (or of 1910) would be very exceptional in one direction, the tendencies of the other in the early portions (or coming under those two influences of Pisces with Leo) make for that (with Aries in the activity) very determined quality (as some would call it); yet, as indicated from the astrological sojourn in Uranus, although being of that nature, is one tempered with justice; while not wholly an extremist from self’s own angle, yet an extremist from the viewpoints of many that are of older or much younger years.

6. Also the influences in Venus make for the tenderness of feeling, the activities as related to those expressions in harmonious effects that may be created in any form to give the expression of same.

7. Hence at times there may be those tendencies of the entity being too easily influenced by those that would take advantage of that tenderness of feeling, that sympathy of expression that is manifested in the very nature of the entity; yet those things that have to do with color, with nature, those things that become practical applications of those experiences in life itself, become the background - or the point in the experience of the entity from which its activities in the experience will radiate. Whether used in development of self or used in the aggrandizing of selfish interests must depend upon the application of that gained in its sojourn, or associations, in the application of that held as the entity’s ideal.

8. From the combined influence, then, as from Uranus and Venus, those things that partake of nature’s expression - yet those things that tend toward the distortion or harmonizing, or crosswising many of those things that give expression - are the fields of activity in which the entity, engaging self in, may - from the material sense - gain the greater prominence in its activity.

9. As to whether these expressions of self correctly or rightly interpret the IDEAL of self is the determining factor as to will’s influence in giving expression THROUGH the activities of that which MUST express itself in this experience.

10. Also those influences through the sojourn in Jupiter, as we find, will make for those periods where the entity will be in association with large groups, with a broad field of experience, an active influence in the lives of many individuals - as it were - THROUGH the activities that will (given correctly) bring for self a place that may really be enviable in its activity.

11. As to the appearances, then, and the influence these have upon the present activities or manifestations of the entity in the present experience:

12. In the one before this we find the entity was in that land now known as the city of the hills, or in the Roman land, during those periods when there were many persecutions of a peoples for a thought, and for the tenets of activity among the peoples.

13. The entity then was among the royal folk that gave expressions to those activities that were to bring to the peoples the satisfying of self in material things, as well as in bringing to pass those things that would bring the satisfaction in the MENTAL thought of the peoples of the day.

14. Hence there, in the name of Pontha, the entity THEN gained much through the early portion of the experience; for, even coming under those periods when about the entity there was much suffering in the mental and material, and much pomp, power and glory manifested in other spheres in which the entity was associated and active, yet in the efforts of the entity - in presenting those that formed for the better welfare of the peoples of the period - the entity gained.

15. Then the entity was in that field of activity which today would be called interior decoration, or preparation of homes, of palace, of all those things that dealt not only with those decorations within but those of the home and the surroundings. And there may be found yet, in some of those places in this land, that which was given by the entity in expression of self; for not only the glorification of the ABILITIES of self but that the mental image expression of the Creative Forces in the activities of an entity.

16. In the present there are those abilities from this period in directing those things pertaining to activities in the directions that make for colorings in cloth, colorings pertaining to painting, decoration, or to the DEEPER colors in the art activities.

17. The ideas of the entity, hence, must be - and are - far-reaching. To AWAKEN these there only needs be those necessary surroundings for the activities to find expressions in any field of endeavor that may pertain to these conditions.

18. In the one before this we find the entity was in the Grecian land, during those periods when there was the overrunning of the land by those peoples from the wars with the eastern lands.

19. The entity then was close to those in the ruling forces under Xenophon in the period, yet not in that household but in the household of Xerzia, in the name Zaba.

20. Then the entity was among those that gained and lost through this experience; GAINING in the abilities to aid those who came for the study of that awakening in the minds of those as they turned from that of sculpture alone to that of plaques and casts that were being brought into active effect in the arts of the peoples in the time.

21. Hence in the present those of vases, gargoyles, or any highly decorated wares, are of special interest to the entity. And if used either as cups, mugs or the like, that bear faces, figures, or portions of groups - whether in animal or in clusters of vine, pomegranate, and groups in their COLOR, are of special interest to the entity.

22. These arise from the experiences then as Zaba, in giving those activities in this particular influence.

23. When there were those returns of those armies that brought the new (or older) Persian and Indian arts, the entity used these rather as an interest for self-indulgencies in the activities of the peoples that gathered during those periods; losing, and gaining again when these were turned into those channels where they were added as decorations at chancellor rails, as decorations in the various places of worship.

24. Hence there is felt in the experiences of the entity in the present oftentimes an abhorrence at SOME expressions seen in such activities; and at others it brings rather a reverence, an awe, in the abilities and activities of the entity.

25. In the one before this we find the entity was in that land now known as the Egyptian, during those periods when there was the return of the priest from the banishment.

26. The entity then was among those that followed these peoples into their environs, that brought the preparation of individuals for the acquiring of the knowledge that came through the meditations, and the leaving off of those things through activities in the Temple Beautiful; the abilities to present to the peoples the mental thought that made for higher development through this experience.

27. After this contact the entity gained, and became one of those in the active service in the Temple Beautiful.

28. In the present the entity finds those things of special interest pertaining to the shedding abroad of those things that make for the awakening of harmony in the activities of individuals from any of the lower kingdoms (as called by man).

29. Hence, in the name then, Apt-Llia.

30. In the present there may be be seen that, in giving expressions along these lines - that which deals with the individuals, or the activities of individuals as related to those that are the composite of the animal and man, or those influences that act upon the things of nature, or the effect had upon man - will make the basis for the thought, the study, in depicting the development of man through his environments.

31. In the one before this, as we have indicated, we find that the entity was in the Atlantean period when there were those contentions between those of the one faith and those that were of Bel-Ra - or the idol worshippers.

32. The entity then was in the household of the king before the third destruction, and was in the name Alta-misa.

33. Then the entity was among those that prepared that which would be termed today as the history of the nation, of the peoples, of the land; assisting then Alta [See 288-1 on 11/20/23 first mentioning Alta, which we took to mean a city in Atlantis, at the time. GD], the scribe, in preparing those activities in the forces of the peoples to those of the various classes, cults or activities upon this land.

34. The entity gained and lost, and gained, through this experience. Hence we find from the experience in the present those abilities to be much of a critic in writings, especially those of a historical nature, pertaining to peoples, things, or to a development in any nature of a land or a place.

35. Hence, as we find, the entity in this experience may do the greater ADVANCING work through illustrations that would COMBINE those efforts of individuals as to the histories, stories, or the like, and bring not only for self those of developments in this period but a settling of many of those questions that pertain to the activities of self.

36. As to the abilities, then, in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

37. As we have given from the EARTH’S sojourns, these vary only in the materialization, and the mentalization, and spiritualization, in the planetary sojourns.

38. Hence experience that makes for the application with the hand of those mental images that may be builded in the various meditating influences in the activities of the entity, will bring those periods when the better expressions of self as TO its ideal may be set forth.

39. In the field, then, of art and literature as combined, or in the illustrative field that makes for the depicting of those influences having to do with the mental beings, may the entity excel; as illustrations of the various fields of activity in this direction.

R1. 6/6/33 “There is a line of Omar Khayam’s that expresses the state of [339] before the afternoon of the Life Reading. There was a door to which I had no key - and I had been trying to pass beyond that door a long while. Sometimes a little in poetry, sometimes in painting - often in music - there would be a glimmer of the world beyond the door. A shining place where all things were the one - and then suddenly that afternoon the door swung open, and the voice told me how it is that everything exists forever - but changing forever too because it lives.

“The long show sequences of seven waves, and the shafts of light from the low sun all were more wonderful than before. And before that day there had been days when leaves and grass and sun and people seemed to be the notes and themes of a symphony just beyond hearing. For a long time I had sensed those things that suddenly I could know that afternoon.

“I don’t know how to thank you and Mrs. Cayce and [345] for giving me that time. [Mr. [345] gave up his appointment for Miss [339]. See 345-4 on 6/3.] I hope I shall see you all again - and Miss Davis.

“The impression that is most strong after the experience of the reading is - there is so much to do.

“I am full of good wishes for you all and for the work you are doing.”

R2. 7/13/33 [to GD]: “I was so very glad to receive the Bulletin that told about the Second Annual Congress. It is fine that it was so successful. M. L. Richardson is a clear-thinking individual. It would be a big step if all the people you help with rdgs. could see as he does, that it is a physical response to a psychic command that is the way to health - spiritual or mental or physical. [See Dr. Richardson’s article under 360-1 Reports.] When one enters into a new world such as you can offer, it is so easy to lose one’s balance. You run very fast along the new road looking at all the trees and picking strange beautiful new flowers - it is enough in its newness for a while - but at last you must wonder where this road meets the road of your life before you entered it. Then you have to be led to a hard strong hill and shown - it is the physical response to the psychic command - that your knowing and your doing must be fused into one thing. It’s queer that it is so hard to know…

“You know, there is so much I must learn about painting and myself and the rest of the world, in order to do the work I want to do - that it will be a long time before I shall be ready - and I do not feel that less than the best readiness I can make is enough to offer you, as a helper in your great and important work. So may I stay on as a listener, and someday become an active doer? I shall be a long while a-listenin’ in, Gladys. [I had asked her to take part in some group activity in Philadelphia. GD.]

R3. 11/28/33 “Would you mind looking to see how much I still owe you for the rdg. that was given me last summer? I am sorry I have let that drag on so. It is only that I haven’t had any money. I can’t see my way clear to become a member of the Association this year, but another year perhaps. I hope I will meet all you people again. You were none of you strangers that time. It was a renewal of an old knowing of you - even before the reading was given.” Love, [339]

R4. 5/16/34 She sent the remainder on her acct., saying: “By now you must have heard that [345] and J… and D… (three people that were there at the Beach last year) and maybe me - are all going to Europe to study this summer. My part is yet to be settled. Give a hard, long HOPE for me, will you?”

R5. 2/16/68 She phoned for a copy of her Life Rdg.

R6. 3/4/68 Ltr. to GD: “Thank you for sending me the copy of the rdg. Edgar Cayce made for me. Reading it, I can hear that strange, hollow, echoing, dark voice. Much in the rdg. is hard to understand, and then some things are so neat a hit upon a point that they are astonishing.

“I should have liked to have had time to get to know you all, there. That afternoon was so short, and the whole experience was so strange, that the people I met I was hardly aware of. Perhaps I can come to Virginia Beach sometime, and you can spare me an hour or so, and tell me about you all. A little, at least.

“[345] and my husband [J…] both taught at the …Fdn. at one time…

“You ask how the rdg. and the shape of my life agree, and it is hard to say. In many ways it is a wonderful life, as far as living it goes, and I hope it is far from over. There is so much I want to do, and so many places I want to go.

“I look forward to seeing the other material you say you have sent. I should like sometime to get from you a copy of the little ‘black book’ as the man who wrote The Sleeping Prophet calls it…”

Thank you for sending me this sheet. There is enough in the Black book as it stands to keep anyone busy trying to act on the suggestions Edgar Cayce makes on it.

It must be my Daniel Boone corpuscles, (in a manner of speaking) that have made me move a little away from the A.R.E. He did not like people living as near as the next mountain, you rememeber. Seeing their smoke made him feel the landscape was getting crowded. The A.R.E. seems a little crowded to me. Lots of lovely people, but I am slightly anti-people.
