This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of December, 1943, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [3421], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born September 2, 1903, in Missoula, Montana. Time of Reading … St., 11:25 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Montana.

1. GC: You will have before you the entity [3421], at home … St., …, Montana, who seeks a Mental and Spiritual Reading, with special regard to the creature which she feels is troubling her. And you will give the information which will be most helpful at this time, with advice and counsel, answering questions which she has submitted as I ask them:

2. EC: [After repeating suggestion in an undertone] Yes, we have the body here, [3421].

3. In giving that which as we find will be of help, the pathological as well as psychological conditions must be considered with the mental conditions of the body.

4. We find that there has been the opening of the Lyden (Leydig?) gland, so that the kundaline forces move along the spine to the various centers that open with this attitude, or with these activities of the mental and spiritual forces of the body - much in the same manner as might be illustrated in the foetus that forms from conception. These naturally take form. Here these take form, for they have not in their inception been put to a definite use.

5. The psychological reaction is much like that as may be illustrated in one gaining much knowledge without making practical application of it. It then forms its own concepts.

6. Now we combine these two and we have that indicated here as a possession of the body; gnawing, as it were, on all of the seven centers of the body, causing the inability for rest or even a concerted activity - unless the body finds itself needed for someone else. Then the body finds, as this occurs, the disturbance is retarded or fades - in the abilities of the body to exercise itself in help for others.

7. Pathologically, we may find this center in the reproductive gland or activity of the body - the ovarian activity. Here apply an equal combination of Mutton Tallow (melted), Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor, and then apply heat. This combination may be put on a flannel cloth, or the cloth saturated with it and applied to the area. This will tend to segregate and separate the disturbance.

8. Also corrections osteopathically are necessary, where there is a subluxation in the tip end of the coccyx area. This was brought about at a period when there was activity in these areas, and it has remained. Hence the distress easily enters, or even when the body sleeps at times, it becomes possessed. When it is in deep thought it will become possessed. This varies according to the physical activities of the body; that is, as to whether or not the body is active in spiritually constructive work. Overactivity physically may bring it on. Overactivity mentally may bring it on. Highly emotional activities, as in sex, may bring on the conditions.

9. All of these indicate, then, the pathological and psychological conditions.

10. When the corrections have been made osteopathically (not before), begin applying the low form of electrical vibrations of the body - through the use of the Radio-Active Appliance.

11. And use that period for the meditation. What should be the trend of the meditation at such times? Exodus 19:5, John 14:2, 3, 4. These are one, applied to self.

12. Do these. Be consistent, be persistent. Use the Appliance each day for an hour. In the beginning surround self with that which is the heart and soul of Exodus 19:5. For there is the hope.

R1. 1/6/44 Letter: “I want to acknowledge the readings received for my husband [3480] and myself. We both hope to carry out all instructions as fully as possible and as quickly as possible. I have sent in my order for the Radio-Active Appliance, and hope to see the osteopath tomorrow. I am fortunate in having a doctor who has an understanding of such things, and he has read ‘There Is A River’ and likes it very much. His name is Dr. S. P. O. If we see changes in our health for the better, I will write you about it…”

B1. 6/6/43 Letter: “A week or 2 ago, I ordered some books from The Theosophical Society, and they enclosed a review on ‘There Is A River’. I was fascinated by the reports of your healing, and have ordered the book. But this is why I am taking the liberty of writing to you. For more than 22 years I have been constantly troubled by an elemental thing. It troubles me at night, and oh, I have had so little sleep all these years. It has been seen by 3 different people with clairvoyant vision, but not one has been able to help me or to tell me how I may be freed from this creature. I and my husband [3480], and family, have all pursued religious theosophy in hopes that by self purification I could lift myself out of this. We have always held hopes of gaining freedom. I will soon be 40 years old. One very dear friend, Father T.E.M. by name, who is quite clairvoyant and a liberal Catholic priest, read the review of this book and has urged me to write to you. Would it be possible to advise or help through mail?… My family and friends are ready to make any sacrifice to gain my freedom… Will you be kind enough to give me your honest opinion?…”

B2. 6/25/43 Letter: “Your prompt letter was received last week and today the data. I have read it over, and am answering immediately… I cannot check the kind of reading, for I don’t know. Perhaps you can tell best what my case requires… I have been troubled violently by an elemental thing about 23 years. It has been constant at night and I have had so very little sleep. For several months now, I average 1, 2 or 3 hours of broken sleep a night, and the rest of the time is mostly spent in walking the floor, exercising and praying. Every few years, I have gone through a period that has been almost unbearable. And I am going thru that now. If it hadn’t been for the continued prayers of my family and friends, I couldn’t possibly have survived. Also my own spiritual efforts have helped me through this. It seems that when I have these extremely bad periods, it has always taken someone new to help me out.

“I have traveled to Rochester, Minn. to the clinics, and gone to dozens of doctors. Twice we went to …, S.D. to a doctor there who is a clairvoyant, and wise enough to help me. We went to Calif. for help and to Wash., and had numerous Truth Teachers and the healing depts. of the Theosophical Society, Unity and the Rosicrucians work on me, without results. It is so stubborn, we wonder what the source really is. Several have seen the creature, and it resists prayer but won’t let go. Now my karma might possibly be ripe and ready to be finished, and it might possibly be that you are to be the channel, Mr. Cayce. It is almost too much to hope for, yet we still live in hopes that at some time I will be freed again and have rest, sleep and live a normal life… The physical body and etheric are affected, and I just don’t know how much the astral and mental are affected. Our good clairvoyant friend could advise me, but I am so eager to send my letter off, I won’t take time to write him, and will leave it to you to decide. My husband will also send for a reading, for his karmic debt is as heavy as mine, except it is purely physical, leakage of the heart and head infection. I shall try to cooperate in every way…”

B3. 7/15/43 Letter: ”…We have suspected my trouble to be a case of vampirism and will be oh, so grateful to know the source and how to counteract it. Your life story in ‘There Is A River’ impressed me greatly…”

B4. 8/2/43 Letter: ”…I am enclosing some questions for my reading, and my husband’s application blank. If I continue at the rate I am now, without any interference, I won’t be able to stand it until Nov. 1st, for my appointment. I am reaching a point of desperation, and haven’t much to work on. The things I have used in the past to give me relief, now fail. Electricity applied to the hands and feet have given at least temporary relief in the past, as Sloan’s Liniment and Epsom Salts baths, but now nothing does. My body and mind are so tired I can’t do the spiritual work I have done in the past by walking the floor all night long and saying affirmations and trying to become more and more aware of my own Christ self. You see, it ‘tackles’ my legs and arms, mostly in the joints but sometimes in the fleshy part, and not frequently in the solar plexus and lungs when there is an opening from a cold in the chest, etc. It not only jerks so violently, it tears my body to pieces unless I keep moving and exercising, the reaction of the nerves is maddening. I can’t stand it unless I vigorously exercise and move. So I walk all night long until my body is so weary I can’t go any longer, and I’m mentally a blank and fall asleep sometimes standing up, and the minute I sit, only have to get up and move on. It’s a most peculiar case, most unusual. It goes wild when we pray and work, and becomes even more violent. My sleep has averaged for some time now, 1, 2 or 3 hours a night, and that only from the most desperate fighting and walking, only to be violently awakened again at the end of that period. And I haven’t been able to rest days either, it’s constant. My poor husband, who isn’t at all well, is straining himself and working so hard, and he is very powerful spiritually. My mother and father too, work daily, and our dear Father T.E.M. is very powerful. He is very close to the masters. When he comes, this creature is more violent. It has been seen by him and 2 others, a huge octopus. Of course, I realize that nothing matters except our spiritual progress and I can truthfully say that we have all made tremendous strides from the effort put forth because of this. So it definitely hasn’t been in vain. And I also realize the karmic debt which I and my loved ones have to pay off to the last farthing. But I understand that every effort should be made to face ourselves. I have no fear of death…

In fact, I would welcome the peace of it after what I’ve gone thru for 22 years. I hate to be ‘licked’ for my family’s sake… I don’t expect you to give me an appointment by taking it from someone else who is equally as important and entitled to his own… (1) Exactly what is troubling me? (2) Is it prompted by someone else, or on its own? (3) What satisfaction does it get from me? (4) What did I do in past incarnations to cause this? (5) What can I do to permanently free myself from this creature, and from everything else of an undesirable nature? (6) Is there a solution or formula that can be used for the helping of others generally in such cases? (7) To what should I devote myself in the future for my spiritual improvement to be of more service in the world?”
