This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3479], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born February 28, 1916, in Winston Salem, N.C. Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:45 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3479].

3. In giving the interpretation of the records as we find them here, there is much to be considered, many varied experiences of the entity. These we choose from same with the desire and purpose that this information might be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfill those purposes for which it entered this sojourn. Many are the abilities of the entity in assisting individuals to find themselves, as will be indicated form the activities of the entity through varied experiences in the earth.

4. The many experiences in the earth bring a self-consciousness of material things, yet the entity is much deeper in thought, in purpose, in ideals, than may appear to many at a casual acquaintance. When the entity is known, when experiences are exchanged with those who are students of human nature as well as relationships, causes and purposes, it is realized that the entity is one given to analyzing conditions that arise in the experience of others. We may help to answer here the big WHY if the entity will harken.

5. In analyzing, then, the urges latent and manifested in the present experience of the entity, we find Venus, Saturn, Mercury and Jupiter forming some very interesting as well as unusual combinations as to how the entity reacts to experiences in the physical as well as the mental and spiritual urges in the earth.

6. Venus indicates that ability of the entity to attract the opposite sex when it desires and to shun same when desired. It also makes for the abilities as a good mother, a kind, patient, loving friend, a good companion, one appreciating beauty, kindness, gentleness; able to appreciate one who can administer same to others when desirous in such measures as to bind others to the entity. This is an unusual accomplishment if it’s applied properly in the entity’s experience with others, but if abused it can cause and bring a great deal of distress and disturbance into the entity’s experience. For it would give the outward appearance of being a coquette or of being insincere. Don’t pass judgment too quickly upon others, then, lest ye be judged harshly thine own self.

7. Saturn brings sudden changes. Yet as indicated in Mercury, if the judgments of the spiritual and mental self are attained and kept as ideals, not ideas alone but ideals, we find that the changes that may be experienced by the entity may ever be used as steppingstones and not stumblingblocks.

8. Be patient with self first, then with others. For in the use of thy abilities in the urges from Venus, as well as Saturn, ye may control those about thee or those whom ye would attract to thee as thy friends, as thy associates in thy activities.

9. In the urges, then: Find first what is thine own ideal - spiritually, mentally, materially. Let the ideals of the material life (of which ye become so conscious at times) be the outcome of the application of self and not as that to be attained whether or no.

10. Know in what and in Whom ye believe. Then thy abilities to control, thy abilities to attract, thy abilities to contribute to the mental, spiritual and material welfare of others, of thy associates, of thy companions, thy friends, thy community, will be in the purposes of thy ideal and not in the purposes of the self alone.

11. Keep true to self and ye will not be false to any.

12. As to the appearances in the earth, these have been many - as may be indicated from that given. Hence the unusual abilities and the confusions that at times have arisen and do arise in the outcome of material happenings.

13. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity about that place now known as Chicago or Dearborn during those periods when there were those fleeing from the activities there, where stresses were made upon those associations that are a part of the entity’s experience in the present.

14. For the protector in that period of activity is the companion in the present experience. Then in thy ideal, in the planning of thy idea, ever look to and demand of that companion that same character of protection and purpose in the present - and you’ll get along a heap better. You will make for reasons and purposes in the activities, as to why, which and when, that will bring those answers more easily interpreted in the experiences of each.

15. Then in the name Mary Childress, the entity gained, for with the changes brought about by the associations and the activities in those periods of leaving those environs, there was the building of the home - in portions of what is now Ohio and West Virginia. Those areas will ever have a call to the entity, once they are a part of the experience; as do hills, woods, nature, call to the entity in the present.

16. Then keep close to the earth; that is, where the feet may oft be on the ground itself, for the earth - ground - is the mother of the material, but spiritualize all by every ideal, every idea, every plan being purposeful; but for all and not for self to have its way alone.

17. Before that the entity was in the Norse land during those periods of reconstruction through the activities following the Norse invasions of Holland, Germany and those areas.

18. The entity then was in the position of being the companion of that entity chosen as leader of those peoples - Olson Odin.

19. The entity then was in the name Younda set those examples for the peoples of the land as to home building as to the ways in which those in authority or as heads of houses were to be treated or controlled.

20. Thus we find the entity oft has ideas of its own as to whose head should be banged and whose should be sat upon by word or deed! These are well in their place but are not always creative.

21. Hence keep to an ideal.

22. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land when there were those separations as persecutions began around Jerusalem.

23. The entity was among those people who had come from Laodicea who were again, with the separations, among those groups seeking shelter in the lands thereabout. Coming in contact with the teachers and ministers in the activities there, the entity - in the name Lucei - became a helpful force in the activities of the church in Laodicea.

24. Hence the innate spiritual purposes, the desire to know, to be among those who are in the positions of being leaders, directors, in the activities, are ever latent and present in the purposes of the entity. Do not submerge these desires without giving expression to same. Even though there may be questions because of other circumstances, fret not thyself. During those experiences there were questions regarding those in authority or the leaders, but ye remained in true fellowship. Keep those ideals in the present.

25. Before that the entity was also in the Holy Land when there were those people entering from Egypt to the land of promise.

26. The entity was among the natives of the Hittites who made associations with the peoples under Joshua. The entity became a companion and an associate of those peoples who came into the land, accepting the tenets and truths, and was of the Moabite family in which there was later the activity of Ruth.

27. These brought periods of development for the entity, to see, to know of its own offspring being among those honored in and among its own peoples.

28. This will be true again in this present entity - of the son yet unborn.

29. Before that the entity was in Egypt during those periods when there were turmoils and strifes with the rebellions in the land.

30. The entity then was among those who were in the Ibex Rebellion, being among those of the household of the young King’s brother; keeping the tenets of those who expressed in that activity: “If you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will do it for you.”

31. This isn’t true. If you live right yourself, everyone will take care of you.

32. In the experience the entity gained and lost; then in the name Is-malx.

33. Before that the entity was in Atlantis before the second upheavals, being among the children of the Law of One and a priestess in the temple through which the mystics studied those tents of the application of spiritual laws to material things.

34. This again gives that deep, deep insight the entity has in the study (and yet the fear of the application) of spiritual truths in material associations. But know thyself and thy own ideals.

35. In the application of self, then, first study self and thy relationships to the universal forces.

36. In home building, in group activity, the entity may accomplish the more.

37. Ready for questions.

38. (Q) What is my purpose in relation to [4930] [husband] and in what manner may I best accomplish this? (A) As indicated there are those obligations, there are those promises that were the first attractions one for the other. Depend upon him as ye make him dependable to others.

39. (Q) For what purpose did I come into the earth this time and why do I feel there is something I should be doing aside from my home activities? (A) Read that just given and you will find that there are groups, there are individuals, there are those activities the entity will and must work out - as to those tenets and truths of the divine forces as applied to material purposes and activities. These are never to be as selfish but as a contribution to the general welfare. These will grow as ye see thy son develop.

40. (Q) Should I continue to stick to my decision not to have another child unless [4930] [husband] will stop drinking? (A) This may be made a part of the experience, but don’t deny that which will bless thy life in all thy undertakings.

41. (Q) What causes [4930]‘s periods of distrust and rebellion and how may I best meet this condition for our mutual development? (A) We haven’t [4930], but these are because of the associations and experiences of his own activities in the sojourn before this about Dearborn.

42. (Q) Concerning the advice given that “those I hate the most I owe the most to, please explain how this applies to Mr. […] [husband’s cousin and drinking companion], so that I may better understand it. (A) These activities are expressed better possibly in that given by the psalmist; “That which I hated has come upon me.” That which one hates because of personal things applies to individualities or personalities. As one learns to eliminate such from the experience, by setting the ideals and letting the hates be as if they were not, one becomes free from hates; thus making better harmony in the life.

43. (Q) What is causing the discord between [4930] and me since [2752] came and how may I bring better understanding and relationships between them? (A) As indicated, trust, purposes, ideals should be set. But let it ever be as though the entity depended upon him. Unless there is trust give, trust demanded, duty demanded, will ye ever each reach that position with each that ye should? “That which I hated has fallen upon me.” Do not hate those differences, but DO change them, by letting them be as if they did not exist. Not denying them - this doesn’t change them, but abound intrust, in hope, and setting self right first.

44. We are through for the present.

R1. 8/45 Her baby son was born (her second and last child).

R2. 2/4/57 Report by sister-in-law [1523]: “Page 1 par. 3 [Par. 4] - this is so true - has great depth, ability to analyze conditions in her own life as well as in the experience of others.

“Page 1 Par. 4 - Page 2 Par. 1-2 [Par. 5, 6] - influences from Venus I have seen work both ways in her life; primarily they have been used constructively. She is a good mother, a kind and patient friend and good companion. She has accomplished this to a most unusual degree despite adverse conditions with her companion [4930].

“Page 2 Par. 3-7 [Par. 7—11] - I cannot report on the Saturn influences which bring sudden changes, for if there have been such they have been more in the mental or spiritual and not in the material, so far as I know.

“Because of her Life Reading and the help she has received through the guidance given her, many of the problems have become more readily understood; thereby she has been given more strength of purpose in her life as related to her associations with others.

“Page 2 Par. 9 [Par. 13] - the Dearborn experiences referred to here are with her husband [4930], his brothers [2385], [1710], [2460], his parents [2051] and [1541], his sisters [1523] and [1548], his nephew [1990] and [5398].

“Page 3 Par. 2 [Par. 15] - She has never been to Ohio or West Virginia, but just recently I heard her say that she could come home and walk around in the yard (her home is surrounded by pine trees) and find peace, a feeling of comfort. She is constantly working on improving her home an urge that is always present - planning - fixing - and in this she does not have her husband [4930]‘s cooperation, either materially or mentally. Thus there is the constant uphill push on this. His drinking has been on the increase and he is definitely an alcoholic. Her children [2752] and the son who was born in August 1945 (and predicted in the Life Reading) are much closer to their paternal grandparents than any of the rest of the many grandchildren - the family ties seem to be much stronger.

“Page 3 Par. 4-8 [Par. 17—21] - the house they are now living in is one of her design, to which changes have been made time and again, and which is quite hashed up at this point from an architectural point of view. There is quite a ‘homey’ feeling otherwise.

“I have often seen her sit upon someone by ‘word or deed’

• and when she does, there is no question about what has happened - ‘not always creative.’ “Page 3 Par. 9-11 [Par. 22—24] - this period has been an outstanding influence. When her children were very little she took them to church every Sunday her husband [4930] never going with her, but insisting that she go to the … Baptist church ‘because that is where Mama and Papa go’ (and of course where he went when he was little). Until she began school teaching, first as a substitute and then as a regular 2nd grade teacher, she was very active in church, eventually teaching the young women’s Sunday School class. She is very good at this and spent considerable time in preparing the lessons.

“Page 4 Par. 1-4 [Par. 25—29] - She has had the thought that she was Ruth of the Old Testament, but this was not checked via the readings.

“Page 4 Par. 5-8 [Par. 30—33] - being active in the Ibex rebellion - the rebellion she has encountered, and felt, often accounts for some of the things she has found herself up against this time. One of the reasons for teaching in public school has been the need for money, but together with this she has tried to bring purposeful ideas and ideals into her work.

“Page 4 Par. 9-10 [Par. 34, 35] - She has had a number of psychic experiences - hearing voices - having dreams

• getting guidance - and warnings. In particular she is terrified of thunder storms - panicky about water, swimming, etc., but loves to be near the water. This could, of course, come from the experience in Dearborn - as well as from the Atlantean experience.

“Generally speaking, I do not know of anyone who is doing a better job of measuring up to a ‘good job well done.’”

R3. 12/20/68 Sister-in-law [1523]‘s letter: “Since the marriage of their daughter [2752], my brother [4930] has changed unbelievably. Of course, the fact that he had a heart attack may be the key to the change. He now does all the shopping for groceries, concentrates on improvements to the home, and has truly assumed his position as ‘head of the household.’

“A funny little thing happened recently. [4930] was going hunting with his son-in-law and was hurriedly telling everyone good-bye. He hugged his daughter [2752], then gave me a hug, then turned to his wife [3479], shook hands with her and departed. We thought this was quite funny, since according to our Life Readings I was his wife in Dearborn and [3479] was the girl friend.”

R4. 9/7/69 We heard that Mrs. [3479]‘s husband, Mr. [4930] died with a heart attack at 5:00 a.m. on 9/6/69.

R5. Newspaper article re [3479]‘s death: VIRGINIA BEACH - [3479], 78, of Virginia Beach, a retired teacher, died June 17, 1994, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Mrs. [3479] was a native of Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was retired after 30 years with the Virginia Beach School System as a teacher. She was the widow of […].

Survivors include one daughter, […] of Lockport, New York; one son, […] of Virginia Beach; her mother, […] of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 21, 1994 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by Reverend Larry Shoaf. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
