This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the sister - Miss [3908], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Jeanette Fitch, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3491]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are some improvements. They are slight at times, and at other times, the body feels a great deal better.
-
We would keep the Wet Cell Appliance, and now at least once a week, have a thorough relaxing treatment by a good osteopath. We would find that Coulter would be well. While it may be necessary at the beginning that Coulter come to the place, if these treatments are made, very soon it will be so that the body will be able to go to Coulter. Keep these up and they will be worthwhile.
-
Keep up the rubs as indicated after the use of the Appliance. Do keep the attachment plates clean. Do make the connections and disconnect, as has been indicated, for the better preservation of the activity of the Appliance.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Have we followed the instructions closely? (A) As has been indicated. These have been very good, but there has been a laxness in the manner of cleaning the attachment plates when taking them off and putting them on. Do these more thoroughly. Do have those changes. Do keep persistent with it, and we would get results.
-
(Q) What will correct the accumulation of mucous in my throat? (A) The correction osteopathically will aid in a great measure in this way.
-
(Q) Please suggest foods to stress and foods to avoid in the diet. (A) Do stress B-1 and E. Stress B-1 and E. Do leave off too much starches. Have plenty of whole grains, and plenty of raw vegetables also.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/2/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC:
“It is just a month ago today that you gave a Check Physical reading for my brother, [3491]. I would like to report to you that we are following the instructions given in the readings to the best of our ability. Dr. Coulter has given him four treatments so far; one each week, and he seems to feel that there is some evidence of improvement already. And my brother says he feels better generally although there seems to be no change in his walking or tremor of his arms and hands or his throat condition. However, I expect those things will be slow in coming.
“In the first reading which you gave on last November 17th, it was suggested that we give the Wet Cell and massage treatments for six months, and then there would be further instructions given. The six months will be up on July 15th. But since you gave a Check reading on May 2nd, would that be considered sufficient or do you think other instructions may be necessary? In the second reading there is no mention of any length of time to continue the treatments. Would you say we ought to continue these treatments indefinitely or just up to July 15th? We would greatly appreciate your advice in this matter because if we have to continue, we will have to get more materials.
“I hope you are feeling well and strong now and will continue to remain so for many years to come. The world needs you so badly with this wonderful power that has been granted you to ease physical and spiritual sufferings of humanity.
“I would like very much to come to the convention this month if I can dispose of my shop by then. I am anxious to get started with the music that was suggested in my Life reading too, so I can’t get my freedom too soon.
“In closing may I wish you and your loved ones wherever they may be health and happiness and pray for God’s protection and guidance…”
“P.S. Would you please send all my communication from now on to my home address … New York City?”
R2. 6/7/44 EC’s letter to Sister [3908]:
“Thanks very much for yours of the 2nd. I feel very sure that you will have a mighty good helper in Dr. Coulter. He is a very wonderful man. He knows his business and will tell you just whether there is help coming for your brother or not. I don’t know of anyone with whom I would rather risk his condition than Dr. Coulter.
“Yes, I know this was a long time coming on and it will take some little time for the system to adjust itself to overcome the conditions. Just as soon as we can make arrangements, we will get an appointment for another Check reading about the Wet Cell applications. Write me again, just after the Congress meetings that are coming up now from the 18th to the 25th of June. You can’t get down then to be with us? Can you?
“I would keep on with the Wet Cell applications until we have a chance to get the Check reading sometime in July or August.
“Yes, you should get the materials and get the battery recharged, for this should work along together.
“Yes, I am feeling better. But my, there are so many, many requests and I seem to be able to do so very little. Thanks a lot for your good wishes and prayers. Please don’t forget me when you pray. I need them.
“With every good wish, and hoping that we may indeed be the means of a real service…”
R3. 7/10/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC:
“I wrote you on June 2nd, one month after the Check Physical reading you gave for my brother, [3491], and you asked me to write you again after the convention. I want to report again that we are carrying out the instructions given in both readings to the best of our knowledge and ability. So far there is no noticeable change in his condition. I don’t know whether there is something wrong in our attitude or what is the matter. If we could only see a little sign of improvement, we would be greatly encouraged. Dr. Coulter thinks there is some slight improvement in his movements, but from our point of view, there is no change.
“I have no application blank here, but I am enclosing a check for $10.00 for a Check physical reading at your convenience.
“On July 14th it will be six months since we started the treatments suggested in the first reading, which you gave on November 17th. Following your suggestions in reply to my letter of June 2nd, I have gotten materials to carry on the treatments for two more months.
“I am sorry I was unable to come to the convention. I couldn’t finish selling out the business until the end of June. I am at last free for a while. I wonder if it would be possible to get a Physical reading for myself whenever it is convenient for you. I have been suffering for the last few years with digestive disorders, headaches, etc. The doctor suggested that I be operated on, but I feel that my condition can be cured without an operation. I would like very much to get a reading before I do anything about it, and if possible and if it is permissible, would like to be there in person for the reading.
“I ask for this reading reluctantly since I know how busy you are, but if it is at all possible, I would appreciate it very much.
“Please accept our gratitude for all you have done for us…”
R4. 8/2/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for giving us another appointment for a Check Physical reading for my brother, [3491], on October 2, 1944. We will carry on with the instructions given in the two previous readings (1st on November 17, 1943, and 2nd on May 2, 1944) until that time.
“Following is an outline of the manner in which we carry out the instructions given in the above mentioned readings:
“1. We have the Wet Cell Appliance all ready beside the bed on a table which is never moved. We use the Gold and Silver Solutions on alternate days exactly as directed in the reading. We change all our Solutions every thirty days, clean all the bottles, rods, crock, etc. thoroughly before we put in the fresh solutions as directed. 2. Just before each treatment he takes a shower with plenty of soap and water so that his skin will be clean. 3. We make the connections on the Appliance about twenty minutes to one-half hour before the treatment. 4. We polish the copper and nickel plates with the emery cloth and Attach them to the body and make the proper connections to the Appliance and Solution, leaving this on for one-half hour (copper to the 9th dorsal and nickel to lacteal duct). 5. At the end of one-half hour we remove the plates and massage the body for about eighteen to twenty minutes with the combination of oils given in the reading, rubbing down from the 9th dorsal to the tips of the toes and up from the 9th dorsal to the neck and shoulders; about twelve minutes for the lower part and six to eight minutes for the upper, then wipe off the excess oil. 6. Disconnect the plates from the Appliance and polish them with the emery cloth. We have been doing this regularly every day since January 16th. 7. Since May 9, 1944 he has been going to Dr. Coulter for an osteopathic treatment once a week, suggested in Check reading of May 2nd. 8. Food: To conform with instructions in Check reading, we have added generous amounts of raw vegetables, whole wheat bread and cereals to his diet. He is also taking three heaping teaspoonsful of wheat germ every morning (for B-1 and E). I think that covers everything as far as my brother’s treatment is concerned…”
R5. 9/16/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC:
“I am writing this letter in connection with the Check Physical reading for my brother [3491] on October 2, 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. He will be at home then at … Street,…
“As I have stated before, there is still no visible change in his condition. He still has his faulty speech, his hands shake and he has a peculiar gait, loses his balance at times. Therefore he cannot go anywhere alone. Needless to say, he is extremely self-conscious about his condition and does not want to meet people.
“Here are some questions we would like to ask:
- Dr. Coulter would like to know if the osteopathic treatments he has been giving since May 9th have helped, and if there are other suggestions?
- Have we been applying the Wet Cell correctly, especially the copper plate? Have we been applying it on the 9th dorsal?
- Do you think it is possible to ask during this Check reading about a suggestion for some occupation, especially for its therapeutic value and to help him regain his self-esteem?
- Would it be advisable to ask about how much longer will it take before there is any noticeable change or improvement in his condition?”
“This is all I can think of right now. We hope and pray that we will get some results pretty soon. It is eight months today since we started the treatments and we have tried our utmost to carry out all the suggestions to the letter. I don’t know if our mental attitude is right or not. Please pray for us, Mr. Cayce. We need it badly.
“Thank you for all your kindness and help…”
R6. 4/16/45 GD’s note: Sent DL with notation advising her to continue Wet Cell and massage at home.
R7. 3/16/45 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC:
“I am writing to you reluctantly since I know how busy you are. But I am in a dilemma. It is about my brother [3491], We had a physical reading for him on November 17, 1943 and a Check reading on May 2, 1944. We were to have another Check reading on October 2, 1944, which was cancelled, of course.
“Now we have been following the instructions given in these readings faithfully and regularly but so far there seems to be no improvement. I spoke to Dr. Coulter the other day for his opinion, and he said the only thing he could do is to follow instructions given in the reading. He said it was up to us to decide whether we want to continue or not. He is also of the opinion that there is no improvement. Dr. Coulter suggested that I get in touch with you and find out if you could help us out. You might have records of cases similar to my brother’s that may help us to get an idea how long it takes to get results.
“It is quite an expense to continue the doctor’s treatments indefinitely. If there is possibility of improvement, then we would even borrow if necessary. Of course the Wet Cell application and massage I do at home, we could continue unless there is any danger of harm resulting from long continued treatment.
“With many thanks for your help…”

We have reports on this case up through March of 1945. Did you continue to carrying out the suggestions after that time? Did the osteopathic treatments relieve the accumulation of mucous in the throat? Do you consider that the mental and spiritual life was helped through this reading? Any other items that would tie in with the reading?
“My brother, [3491], passed on in May of 1945 after an illness of ten years duration. Medical science seems to be helpless in the treatment of this condition known as Parkinson’s Disease.
“After following Mr. Cayce’s instructions for about six months, there seemed to be a slight improvement, perhaps psychological, in his condition, but I am sorry to say it did not last.
“I think after Mr. Cayce’s passing he felt the last hope was gone. You see, he was aware of his condition and knew that nothing could be done as far as medical science was concerned, and he had his hopes pinned on instructions received through Mr. Cayce. We followed those instructions so faithfully.”
