This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the sister - Miss [3908], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:25 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the entity, the body here.

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions in the physical forces of the body; and it may all be summed up in this: Through his suffering he may learn a more excellent way.

4. There are hindrances in the abilities of the glandular forces to reproduce themselves. This indicates that either in this or another physical experience there has been the dissipation of the energies that are creative within themselves.

5. Then, from whence comes creation? Whence comes the abilities for self-production?

6. In the beginning was given all things in nature, all things that are in man’s body. There was found within same the ability to reproduce its own kind.

7. Then, when this ability becomes lacking - as it does in deterioration through age in human experience - it is because there is set up those consciousnesses in the cycle or atoms of the body itself, as of tiredness, weakness, the desire for rest.

8. Suppose God rested a moment - where would you be? Where would the world be? Think! Think of self. Sure, it is indicated that He rested on the seventh day - to take stock, or to let His purpose flow through that which had been made, that it might be perfected in itself.

9. Then in this body, as we find here, the closer study of creation, the closer study of God’s relationship to man, the closer study of what the creating of vibrations in body may mean, will bring - What is promised? - Through suffering a more excellent, a more perfect way.

10. In the body energies we find there is the lack of that plasm in the nerve forces themselves in limbs for coordinated activity. Thus there is the beginning not yet of atrophy but inability for sufficient elasticity or resistance - in fact the return energy of gray matter in nerve forces themselves.

11. There are elements in the earth from which, to which, every atom of the body responds. Here we find that silver and gold are those necessary elements that are needed in body when mind has been attuned to Creative Forces for helpful influences.

12. Then, these may be added to the body in a way in which they may bring help to the body - if the mind and purpose is set aright.

13. We would use the low Wet Cell Appliance, as this produces that vibration nearer to life energy itself in human experience. For, all life is electrical energy. That produced as life force is from the combinations of the principal elements in the Wet Cell Appliance, preparing in the manner as has been indicated, in the right proportions for the regular charge.

14. Use this Appliance every day for thirty minutes, one day carrying the vibrations from the Gold Solution (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water) the next day carrying the vibrations of the Silver Solution (in the proportions of two ounces of a 2% Nitrate of Silver added with two ounces of grain alcohol for two ounces of distilled water - making six ounces in all).

15. The small copper plate would be attached to what may be called the brain of the nervous system - that is the 9th dorsal plexus; while the larger nickel plate would be attached to the lacteal duct or the assimilating center of the body - that takes from the connection the vibration that is carried into the body - which, on this body, will be three fingers to the right of the navel center and two fingers up from that point (using the body’s own fingers for such measurement, you see) make these attachments each day for thirty minutes, one day using the Gold Solution, the next day the Silver Solution.

16. Each day following the use of the Appliance, give the body a thorough massage with this combination of oils:

Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Olive Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/4 ounce.

17. Use this over the limbs, especially from the 9th dorsal downward, and then from the 9th dorsal upward; rubbing downward to the tips of the toes, and then upward to the head and not away from it.

18. Make these attachments of the Appliance each day for thirty days. Then change all the Solutions.

19. Do this for six months, and then we will give further instructions.

20. But do the first things first.

21. Do study creation, man’s relationship to God. What is light, that came into the earth, as described in the third verse of Genesis I? Find that light in self. It isn’t the light of the noonday sun, nor the moon, but rather of the Son of man.

22. We are through for the present.

If these directions are carefully followed, it may be possible to get a Check reading to give further instructions on Saturday, A.M., July 1, 1944 between 10:30 and 11:30. Be sure to let us hear in the meantime just how you progress with the treatment. See application blank [which was enclosed] for a Check Physical reading. It will be necessary for you to let us know the exact address at which you will be during that hour, and you also may submit questions to have asked concerning your condition.)

R1. 11/29/43 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC: “On November 27th I received the reading which you gave for my brother on the 17th of November and was very much impressed by it. This is truly the first ray of hope we have had for the possible improvement of his condition since he was afflicted. May I thank you a thousand times for your help.

“I am sending the instructions for the Wet Cell Appliance to Mr. Godfrey this evening, but I am sending the check to you for the Appliance. If you will let me know how much additional money to send you for the chemicals needed in this case, I will mail it by return mail.

“Now there are several questions I would like to ask:”

1. Will it be alright for me to give these treatments or would you suggest someone who is familiar with the work? I think I could do it, especially since I have done nursing for so many years. I am not sure though whether I know the exact location of the 9th dorsal plexus?
2. Can you recommend anyone in New York City who is familiar with these treatments so that in case I have any difficulty I can consult them?
3. Is there likely to be any reaction that I should watch for and be prepared to meet?
4. My brother asked me this morning how he could go about studying creation. Have you any suggestions?…

R2. 12/3/43 EC’s letter to Sister [3908]: “Replying to yours of the 29th, I am passing the check on to Mr. Godfrey. This, as I understand, includes the chemicals for the first period of charging the Appliance. Of course, there is some part of it that you have had to get there, as it can’t be shipped. This amounts to very little, as I understand it. I am sure Mr. Godfrey will send you all of the instructions necessary.

“As for your questions, first I don’t think you will have any trouble in making these applications yourself. Or should you have any trouble, and want to inquire of anyone, go to Dr. Harold Reilly, at the Reilly Health Service. He will be glad, I am sure, to instruct you not only in the massage, but as to the location of where these plates should be put, if you take the reading to him and tell him what you are doing.

“I don’t think you need to expect any special reaction right away. This comes rather gradually. If there should be, I am sure you could find out from Dr. Reilly.

“We haven’t any particular literature just at the present time that your brother might study. I believe we will have a book that I would like to send you in the next few weeks. It costs $1.00. The name is A SEARCH FOR GOD. I am enclosing one of the leaflets. You may have seen it or may have just overlooked it. This, I am sure, in a little while would be a very good study for him to make. It is something that you can read very slowly, but will be, I believe, very helpful…”

R3. 3/3/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC: “I had intended writing to you about my brother, [3491]‘s treatments at the conclusion of two months after the treatments were started, but when I received the February Bulletin, I noticed that you like to hear at the end of one month. Therefore, I am writing now.

“His reading was given on November 17, 1943, 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. suggesting the use of a low Wet Cell Appliance followed by massages every day for six months; then another reading to be given on July 1st for further instructions.

“We had a great deal of difficulty and consequently a delay in getting all the materials together, especially the grain alcohol and sulfuric acid.

“We also had to wait until the 15th of January for an appointment with Dr. Harold Reilly in order to have him mark the 9th dorsal for us. Finally we started the treatments on January 16th and of course, we are keeping it up regularly. Up to the present, we have not noticed any change. I hope we are carrying out the instructions correctly. However, we will keep on trying until we succeed.

“Would you advise us to continue regardless of whether we notice any change or not, or do you think we ought to have a Check reading to see if we are doing it right? We will abide by your decision.

“I would like to say here that I found the February Bulletin very inspiring. It certainly is comforting to know that there is a higher Intelligence that watches over human beings, even though with all the suffering and hardships in our lives, it is often difficult to grasp that fact.

“I would like to get a copy of your new pamphlet ‘Physical Readings’, which you mention in the Bulletin. I also wonder if the book, A SEARCH FOR GOD, is available yet. I asked for this book before, but you were out of it. If you could send me those two whenever you have them, I would be very grateful. I think I have most of your other publications. Please let me know whatever the cost is for both or send them C.O.D. if you like.”

R4. 3/8/44 EC’s letter to Sister [3908]: “I have your letter of February 3rd and note what you have to say about getting started with the treatments for your brother.

“I believe it would be best to go on with the treatments for the time being anyway because it is practically impossible for me to get in a reading just now anyway. I am sure if you will very carefully follow the instructions, though your brother will not feel any change much taking place, the change will be gradual. You see, it is a growing thing. You will see he will be able to use his hand or limb or that he will be able to close his fingers or change the muscle. It just grows on them.

“I wish I might have had your letter a few days ago. I was in New York and would like to have met you and talked with you and to have seen your brother. I was ill and maybe trying to help someone else might have helped me a whole lot more than I got by just fooling around myself.

“I am still ill, is the reason why I am not trying to make an appointment for your brother, but as soon as I am a little better, I will try to write to you.

“I am sending you A SEARCH FOR GOD and will send you the “Physical Readings” the last of the week. The latter has not yet come from the printers, but will send it as soon as it gets here. This will be $1.50, but we are sending it on.

“Thanking you kindly, and I appreciate the anxiety you have for your brother and we hope to be the means of a service.”

R5. 4/7/44 Miss [3908] reported on her Life reading and requested a second Physical Reading for her brother.

R6. 4/20/44 Sister [3908]‘s letter to EC: “I have your letter of April the 15th in which you gave an appointment for a Check Physical reading for my brother, [3491], on May 2nd, 1944, 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. Thank you, sir, very much for this early appointment. We started the 4th month of the treatments on April the 14th, and up to the present, we have not noticed any change. Therefore, we are anxiously awaiting the outcome of this reading. Of course, our first concern is to find out if we are carrying out the instructions given in the first reading correctly.

“Here are the questions my brother wishes to ask:

1. Will I regain full muscular control of my arms and legs? And will my speech improve?
2. I have a constant accumulation of mucus in my throat which is very annoying. Can this be corrected?
3. Would you suggest occupational therapy? If so, what would you suggest that I do?
4. Is any special diet necessary?
5. Would you recommend a physician or osteopath or someone who is familiar with this work whom we can consult if necessary? My brother will be at home at that hour.”
