TEXT OF READING 3514-1 F 40 (Housewife)

This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of December, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3514], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Harmon Bro.]
Born July 23, 1902, 6:39 P. M., near Steeleville, Mo. Time of Reading 10:55 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Mo.
-
GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, that may be asked:
-
EC: Yes, we are given the records here of that entity now known as or called [3514].
-
In interpreting the records here, there is much that may be given if the body-mind is ready to accept and do something about it.
-
But to know and then refuse may become to the entity sin.
-
Is the body ready for this? Only the self may answer.
-
For the entity is one that is supersensitive, who may contribute much to the research especially in those fields of activity in which there are the determining factors regarding the development of individual entities who are born into the earth.
-
For as has been indicated, now, in the next few years, there will be many entrances of those who are to prepare the way for the new race, the new experiences of man, that may be a part of those activities in preparation for the day of the Lord.
-
This will require the dedicating of self to the cause, contributing to the welfare of those who may seek through such channels as to the type of training needed - or to the vocational guidance of the young in these periods of unfoldment.
-
The entity’s experiences in spiritual things, the entity’s activities in the earth in the varied manners, should have warned the entity.
-
If the entity is ready, we would give further interpretations, but the entity must answer Yea or Nay. For to know to do good and not do it is evil.
-
We are through for the present, though we would give much more.

R1. 1/3/44 EC’s letter to [3514]:
Dear Mrs. [3514]:
We undertook the life reading for you on the 29th of December.
Evidently from the information given here, you have a great deal of ability, but apparently the information withheld giving it until you would decide within yourself as to whether you would want to use it at this experience or not. Read over what is supplied here, and then let us hear from you. I hardly know just what to say, for it seems to me it would imply that you were much more capable of giving life readings that might be helpful than even myself. I wish it were possible for me to talk this over with you and your husband. Will it be possible for you to sometime come to the Beach, and be present at the time of your reading, if you decide that you would like to go ahead with it, and let us discuss this at some length. I do hope we can be the means of a real service. Of course, there is not going to be another charge for the continuation of this if you decide to undertake it.
Hoping with may indeed be the means of a real service, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/vw]
R2. 1/6/44 Husband’s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
To-day my wife, [3514] received her reading together with your very kind letter, which over-joyed her and pleased me very much… Thank you for your understanding and your consideration.
Naturally, I am very busy with my office during this national emergency and it is quite difficult for me to leave, even for a week but, with your invitation to the Beach for whatever additional information or discussion is necessary and if you are willing to go ahead with this matter as busy as you are, - then, we shall be glad to come and will consider it a distinct honor and privilege.
I would suggest the time of the visit to be sometime between the last week in January and the second week of February; I have ascertained that it will require a little more than a day and a half of travel from … and we would possibly leave on a Wednesday morning of the week that you suggest arriving sometime Thursday afternoon. If it is convenient for you to do so, I shall appreciate your further suggestion as to Hotel services and approximate cost for moderate accommodations.
As long as we are travelling this long distance to see you and talk with you, it would please me very much if it were possible for me to get a reading while I’m there; I know you’ll be busy but I still like the idea.
Thanking you for your every kindness and trusting that too much of a burden has not been placed upon you by this proposition, I am
Sincerely yours, Dr. […]
R3. 1/13/44 EC’s letter to [3514]‘s husband:
…, Missouri
My dear Dr. […]:
I have yours of January 6, and indeed I am very happy to hear from you. I do hope that we may indeed be the means of being a service. May I suggest, owing to the circumstances, if it is all possible, could you arrange so that you and Mrs. [3514] could be here on the 29th of February. I can give that whole day to you and Mrs. [3514]. We would have the opportunity then to talk over the situation and possibly get Mrs. [3514]‘s reading in the early morning and be able to get it written and discussed that afternoon or night; and then we could get your reading in the afternoon period.
As you can very well imagine, every period for many, many months has been promised to someone, and as these periods were made from a 1943 calendar, there was no 29th on it. I left this open trying to find at least a period where we could rest. Now I am giving it to you. If you can arrange your affairs, this will be most convenient for me.
Thank you and with kindest regards to you both, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/mw]
R4. 1/17/44 Dr. [3559] obtained a Physical Rdg. via Mrs. [3514]‘s and her husband’s recommendations.
R5. 1/19/44 Husband’s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Yours of the 13th most welcome; thank you for your promptness.
We both appreciate your unselfishness in proffering your day of anticipated rest and we feel very imposing to say the least, but the opening DOES seem rather coincidental and if you’re certain that you will not be too much inconvenienced nor too over-worked then we shall be very glad to be with you on the 29th of February.
Since you did not mention anything about hotel service I take it for granted that we will not have too much difficulty in finding a room in your City. (Conditions here in … are very crowded but I suppose there is a difference at that.)
Altho I am serious about my own reading, really I was half kidding when I mentioned it in my letter. However, I do appreciate the opportunity if it will not overtax matters and I shall be looking forward to it. It is useless to tell you that my wife is counting the hours and she desires me to tell you how very happy she is over the prospects of our visit with you and how kind you are to arrange it.
Thanking you for your interest, kindness and generosity, I am
Sincere yours, Dr. […]

Dear Dr. […]:
Thank you for yours of the 19th. We will be looking forward with a great deal of interest to meeting you and Mrs. [3514] on the 29th.
I would suggest that you write the Essex House at Virginia Beach. That is a very nice little hotel and not far from our place. The building is owned by a doctor here in Virginia Beach.
Thanking you, looking forward to seeing you the latter part of next month, I am,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/mpw]
R7. 2/25/44 GD’s [wire? letter?]: Mr. Cayce ill. Please postpone trip until hearing from him.
R8. 3/14/44 EC’s letter to Mrs. [3514] and husband:
…, Missouri
Dear Dr. and Mrs. [3514]:-
We were so sorry not to be able to keep the appointments for you on February 29th. For three weeks now, due to illness, I have been unable to give any readings. However, I am feeling better and hope to get started back to work within the next few days.
Could you arrange to come to Virginia Beach for the Association Congress, June 18th through 25th? This is the time when the readings are devoted, usually, to subjects of general interest for the members; but I feel that under the circumstances your readings would be possibly of greater value to our membership as a whole. If it will be possible for you to come, I can give you three periods of readings - the morning of June 18th, the morning and afternoon of June 19th. It may require two periods for the information to be given for Mrs. [3514] - that’s why I am reserving three periods for you.
I do hope it will be possible for you to come at that time, because it will give you the opportunity to meet many of our members as well as trustees of the Association, as well as given them the chance to meet you. Besides, it seems almost impossible to find any other time to get in the appointments before late fall.
I want to thank you especially for the copy of the Aquarian Gospel which you so kindly sent me. It is very beautiful and I appreciate it very, very much.
Hoping to hear from you soon, and with all good wishes, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R9. 4/5/44 Husband’s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
Your very kind letter received some time ago and I’m terribly sorry that I haven’t answer sooner. We were very sorry to learn of your illness but we are glad that you are improving.
Your invitation to the Congress during June was generous and thoughtful of you, but it will be impossible for us to make the trip at that time.
Again thanking you, and prayerfully hoping that your health continues to improve, I remain
Sincerely yours, Dr. […]
R10. 5/1/44 EC’s letter to [3514]‘s husband:
Yours of the 5th just received, glad to hear from you, but sorry indeed it is not convenient for you and Mrs. [3514] to be here about the 18th of June, too bad we had to change the date for you from the 29th of Feb, but was just too ill to do any thing about that time do hope it will be so you can get out this way some time in the near future as have been very anxious to meet you both, and am interested in Mrs. [3514]‘s abilities, and do need help so badly had been in hopes we might work out something that would be good for all.
Thanks a lot and certainly am enjoying the book you sent me and do appreciate it so very much
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R11. 5/10/44 [3514]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
We want to thank you for your letter and your kind invitation to come to the Beach for the Congress in June and we are very sorry that we will not be able to come at this time.
I hope that you also understand that there is purpose back of your failure to get the information - my life reading!
- I feel sure that there is a very good reason that it was withheld at this time. “All things have their own peculiar time, if taken in that time, success ensues, if taken out of time, failure results.” Evidently it is not yet time.
A great flood of illumination is to be poured forth upon the earth and there is need for vessels who will hold this light and transmute it to the needs of their younger brethren. For on the upward march none can be left behind for all alike are precious. Many are being prepared in secret and will be called for service when the proper time comes. Each has his work prepared for him and his own way of approach and need only to obey the voice within.
I am sure we have met before and I hope we may meet again at the opportune time.
Very sincerely, [3514]
R12. 5/18/44 EC’s letter to [3514]:
Dear Mrs. [3514]:-
Thanks very much for yours of the 10th; yes, many of us have come to realize there is a purpose in every thing that comes about, especially to those who are seeking to be a channel of blessing to some one, and those who pray unceasingly “Thy will, O Lord, not mine, be done.”
Yet we are very human, and can’t help but be disappointed that you and the Dr. couldn’t make it to the Congress at this time. Let’s hope, tho, it is all for the best and some other time it will be more in keeping with what is desired of us all. Personally think we have a great work to do.
Thanking you, and with every good wish
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce

R15. 10/9/44 [3514]‘s letter to GD:
Miss Gladys Davis, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Davis -
We were indeed sorry to hear of Mr. Cayce’s illness - do hope he is feeling himself again.
We enjoyed meeting Mr. Ricks - he is a very fine person, fact is, my husband said that he has MORE than anyone he has met for a long. I feel that he has a mission and that he will do good work in the world - by his voice or pen, he will reach many groping and aspiring minds, who are searching for truth. I hope that I was able to be helpful in my own small way. He told us so much about the Beach and we feel almost as if we had been there and that we know you all quite well.
Several days ago, I received a letter from Mrs. Hunt of Hilliston, Mass. She asked for help, not only for herself but also for her two daughters. I was able to ‘tune in’ with her vibration from her letter but was unable to get anything for her daughters. I wrote to her, suggesting that each of the girls write a note giving me their name, time and place of birth, etc. I may be able to help them - that may do the trick!
With all good wishes for your continued success in your great work, I am,
Yours very sincerely, [3514]

Dear Miss Davis -
Just received a special delivery letter from Judy Chandler telling us of Mr. Cayce’s transition.
We want to extend our sympathy to you and the family for your great loss. Mr. Cayce was indeed a godly man and the world will regret his passing as deeply as they appreciate his selflessness in assisting his fellow-man on this earth plane.
I, personally, was very disappointed that I did not have the privilege of meeting Mr. Cayce while in his physical body.
Judy Chandler and I have become good friends - she has spoken so highly of you, Miss Davis, that I hope to know you in the days to come and I trust an opportunity will offer itself for our meeting. With the very kindest regards I am
Yours very sincerely, [3514]
R18. 1/16/45 [3514]‘s letter to GD:
Dear Gladys Davis -
I hope you will pardon my presumption in writing you again but I was so strongly impressed to tell you that I was with Mr. Cayce last night. He is quite contented now that his adjustments have been made - as you know, he loved it here and wanted to stay until Hugh Lynn’s return from the army and he greatly wanted to watch his little grandson, Tommy, grow up - now he realizes that he can do all of those things without the pain and limitations of the physical. Just like a thought, he can travel to see Hugh Lynn and as quick as a flash, be back in Virginia Beach with those he loves. Because of your work, I feel sure you realize that there does not need to be any separation - if those who love him, recognize his presence, he will be completely happy for his is closer than ever now - “closer than breathing, nearer than hands and feet”. When we received Judy’s air-mail, special delivery letter telling us about Mr. Cayce’s transition and during the subsequent discussion, I am quite certain that he ‘tuned in’ here for I was very conscious of his presence - our words and thoughts were like a magnet to them, once they are free from the physical.
With the kindest regards, I am, [3514]
R19. 2/9/45 Judy Chandler’s letter [after having Mrs. [3514] visit her]:
I have had quite a week with [3514]! I am glad she could not accept your suggestion to go tot he Beach before returning to …, or it would only have been a waste of everybody’s time and strength, for she could never do Edgar’s work. She does seem to be quite a psychic but cannot CONTROL it in any way. She cannot give a “Reading” AT WILL, and has long periods when she gets nothing at all. Still further, she SNIFFS at the idea of being connected with the Association, as she feels she has a great personal work to do (which may be, - who knows? - but I doubt it!) Anyway she’s quite “sumpin”, and I’ll tell you all about her and her visit when I see you.
R20. 5/45 Mrs. [3514]‘s “reading” for Miss [3685]:
It is not necessary for you to be here for a “reading” but if you should ever be in … I should like very much to meet you - my telephone number is … Your letter was sent to Dr. […]‘s office address - you will find the home address on the envelope. And I should like meeting Betty Nuse - she sounds like an interesting person.
Now for you - you are an ancient soul and as such, you have taken on a heavy load of karma with a view to progress more quickly by working out as much of it as possible in this incarnation. That you will have to struggle with all kinds of adversity need scarcely be mentioned but you have the strength for it (otherwise it would not have been given to you) and you will conquer in the end. This is a proof of the great strength of the Ego which had at the time of its incarnation the COURAGE TO TAKE UP A CROSS that would be too heavy for many people. We have all laid out our road of life ourselves and we have only ourselves to blame if this road we are travelling often has steep slopes and sharp rocky points but we also owe it to ourselves that the road is not void of agreeable shady resting places and splendid vistas that renew our strength as we go on. Thus we see that our character makes our destiny.
I do not entirely agree with you and the psychologists that you have “fear” of something - I would say that it was more of a feeling of dread or premonition - for FUNDAMENTALLY you have much courage and determination and are resourceful enough to cope with any circumstances. This feeling of “doom” hanging over you is the result of the karmic debt that I was speaking of and was brought over from previous lives. If I can find out what was the cause, I would not hesitate to tell you for I KNOW YOU WOULD NOT FAIL in your attempt to rectify it. Just know that you ARE rectifying it every day of your life without realizing it. And please do not waste time worrying about past mistakes for really from the Ego or soul’s point of view, they were not really “mistakes” for if we have LEARNED OUR LESSONS, then how could they have been “mistakes”. I feel that you take life much too seriously. If you brood over your troubles, you only fill your life with gloom and it certainly does no good. Try to be sociable and not to turn away from the sunshine of life. Since we know that all things work together for final good, there is no reason for the “blues”.
You do have a serious and profoundly philosophical mind, sound judgment and the ability to grasp opportunity. No matter how handicapped you may be at the start of life, your ultimate success is assured through PATIENCE, PERSEVERANCE, TACT, DIPLOMACY AND SELF-CONTROL. You will not be defeated no matter what the obstacles for the REAL YOU is fearless and independent. Then when sorry has chastened you, you may hear the “still small voice” of your higher self.
I do not know if you or your friends realize it but you are emotionally inhibited. Though you show a somewhat cold exterior (sort of a shell around you) YOU HAVE GREAT INNER INTENSITY OF FEELING. Your best emotional outlet would be through writing or music. I do not know if you brought over any musical ability or not but it is a part of your inner nature. You would find relaxation and peace through music
- preferably the organ, if you have the time and the ability
- if not, then buy some good organ records and use them for your periods of meditation. This will relieve your state of hypertension.
There is no question about your ability for writing - this should be along the lines of higher philosophy, anything of an occult nature. I like Mr. Cayce’s suggestion that you write for children or young people. There is quite a demand now for occult fiction - I am sure that you, too, often hear these stories on the radio and find them in the popular magazines. That’s the type of thing you could do well, stories with a moral - the public has to be fed the truth in small doses, just a spoonful at a time and I know you can do it!
I intuitively sense that you belong to my Egyptian incarnation. At that time I was the high-priestess and you were a scribe at the Temple. This was during the Golden Age of Egypt. If you re interested, you can get a book at the library on the Queens of Egyptian Antiquity and see if…

Background
B1. 7/10/43 Her husband, Dr. […] requested the Life Rdg. as a birthday gift for her.
B2. 9/12/43 [3514]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dear Mr. Cayce -
Sorry to be so slow about answering your letter of July the twentieth but we have been on vacation. The appointment for a Life Reading on the afternoon of October the fifth at 2:30 to 3:30, … time, is very convenient for me and I shall sit in prayerful meditation at this time as you suggest.
Both Dr. […] and I are so interested in your work. We have long been interested in Metaphysics. We, also, were raised in the orthodox faith but since we have begun seeking truth, we have found it in many places. Truly there is a golden thread that runs through every religion in the world. We have studied the Oriental Philosophies, Theosophy and all the New Thought movements - also Astrology - and find there is much that is good and true of all of them. I am very much interested in esoteric Astrology - the exoteric does not interest me.
I do not think I am a Psychic - perhaps a Sensitive would be a better word. My experiences come to me at night as visions. Many times I have awakened reading the Akashic Record and many things I remember when I awaken. I have brought through many of my own (and others!) past lives and have been told I am to write about these things from the far distant past. So you will understand how eagerly I await my Life Reading.
My last experience on this plane of existence was as a nun in a convent in Italy, during the 13th century. I know quite a lot about this incarnation and I have brought over many tendencies from this life. Before that there were three incarnations in male form - one as a poet, another, a monk and the third as a knight. At the time of the Christ, I was a Roman Lady. The lives before this time are much more vague
- I am sure I was on this plane at the time of King Solomon and that I knew him very well. Also I was Rebekah, wife of Isaac and mother of Jacob and Esau. And I feel sure that I was at Atlantis and it seems that I was one of those who was saved from the cataclysm and came to South America - one of a tribe of the Maya Indians but as I said before, this is all rather vague. These memories of past lives usually come in the early morning when the world is asleep. There is an Egyptian incarnation that eludes me. If you can help me with this, will you please do so? This I know - I was given a beautiful ring in symbolic form and this ring went with me to the grave. But who, when or where - I do not as yet know. Anything you may be able to tell me about past lives will be appreciated. Thanking you in advance, I am,
Sincerely, [3514]
B3. 10/5/43 Rdg. attempted 3:50 P.M. EWT: (Life Reading) born July 23, 1904, near Steelesville, Mo. EC: (In going back over birth information presented: “We don’t find [3514] born on that date in this environ or this vibration.”)
B4. 10/6/43 EC’s letter to [3514]‘s husband:
Dear Dr. […]
We undertook to get the reading for Mrs. [3514] yesterday afternoon at the regular appointment, but somehow, we were not able to locate it as being born anywhere near Steelesville, Mo., on July 23. Could Mrs. [3514] be just a little more explicit as to the information about where she was born. Of course, sometimes, we have this trouble, but not very often. I wish you could let us hear about this, then we will try to make an appointment as soon as possible, but we have gotten a long ways ahead now, but we will do the best we can or return the membership. Regretting very much this delay and hoping that we may indeed be of a real service, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
B5. 10/11/43 [3514]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
In reply to yours of the 6th, I am very sorry that we did not get results from our appointment for a reading. Perhaps I was at fault but I did not know you needed my birth time and place. Dr. [3514] gave me the reading as a surprise gift and I am not at all sure that he has the correct data.
I was born July 23, 1902 at 6:39 P.M. Lat. 39 degrees North, Long. 91 degrees West on a farm located somewhere between Steeleville and Salem, Missouri. The nearest large town was I believe Steeleville - we moved to Steeleville when I was two years old.
I hope this information will do - if so, will you please let me know how soon you can arrange another appointment - if not, then you may return the membership fee. Thanking you for your consideration, I am,
Very truly yours, [3514]
