GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause for the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3591].
-
As we find, there is a complication of disturbances with this body. But the greater stress has come from the gradual crystallization or inflammation of the muscular forces that draw the tendons and muscles of the extremities, and the periods of inflammation that cause a greater anxiety to the body, the inability of assimilation properly at times and at others very poor eliminations.
-
While it will take a long period, there can be a great deal of ease or comfort given the body. As to whether these conditions will respond entirely will depend upon the general attitude and the consistency with which these applications might be kept or changed according to the needs of the conditions in the body.
-
These as we find, will respond if these two types of applications are used:
-
First, we would commence with hot Castor Oil Packs for an hour every other day for three applications. Apply these over the abdominal area, especially over the liver, the caecum, or along the right side, using an electric pad over same. When removing, sponge off the area with soda water.
-
After the third application, take Olive Oil internally in small doses for two days; about half to a teaspoonful, two to three times each day.
-
Then in three days repeat the whole procedure. Continue in this manner. Each time after the third application, take the small doses of Olive Oil in large doses, for this body, for it is too sedentary in its activities.
-
Also have prepared for the body and use twice each week the Wet Cell Appliance carrying the vibrations alternately of Gold, Silver and Camphor. Attach the Appliance for one hour twice each week, say Tuesdays and Fridays or that ratio; one time using the Gold Solution (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water - and use three ounces of the Solution). The next time using the Silver Solution (in the proportions of twenty drops of a two percent Solution Nitrate of Silver to an equal combination of distilled water and grain alcohol to make three ounces). The next time using the Camphor Solution (commercial strength).
-
Do not use the same connections for any two solutions. Have separate connections for each solution. These should be taken from the solution when not in use. These should be kept very clean. These should be put together at least twenty minutes before the Appliance is attached to the body.
-
When the Appliance has been used for thirty days, do recharge and do change the Solutions.
-
The large nickel plate, through which the Solution passes vibratorially to the body would be attached each time to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus, which for this body will be the width of four fingers from the navel center to the right and four fingers up from that point.
-
When using the Gold Solution, the small plate would be attached to the lumbar axis.
-
When using the Silver Solution, the attachment would be made at the 9th dorsal center - almost directly through the body, or to the solar plexus.
-
When using the Camphor Solution, the small plate would be attached to the 2nd dorsal center.
-
Each time when removing the Appliance, give the body a massage with this combination of oils:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/4 ounce, Oil of Pine Needles…1/2 ounce.
-
This should be massaged especially over the areas where there have been those disturbances, as in joints, in feet, knees, and body, especially the lumbar and sacral area.
-
Do these for at least four to five months, and then we will give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What about the diet? (A) Keep a well balanced diet. Do have ofttimes raw vegetables prepared with gelatin.
-
(Q) Any suggestions regarding eliminations? (A) As indicated, the Castor Oil Packs are to be given regularly in series, followed by the two days of taking small doses of Olive Oil.
-
(Q) What produced this condition in the body? (A) Chemical unbalance and a pressure in the sacral areas.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/3/44 [3591]‘s letter:
Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Gentlemen: RE: [3591]
Mr. Cayce made the above reading on January 24th, 1944 making certain suggestions to be followed for four to five months when he would give further instructions.
We are pleased to advise that the suggestions made have been and are being carefully followed and that there is a very marked improvement in Mrs. [3591]‘s condition. We will be forever indebted to Mr. Cayce for his help. We understand that he himself has not been too well of late and we hope that by now he is recovered and will be spared to us for a long time to come.
We are anxious to get subsequent reading with Mr. Cayce’s further instructions toward the end of June or early in July and enclose herewith U.S. Postal Money Order for $10.00 which we understand will be the cost of this subsequent reading.
Trusting that we may have an appointment as outlined, preferably in the afternoon as Mrs. [3591] is not relaxed in the morning.
Yours very truly, Mrs. [3591] Per: Enc.
R2. 5/12/44 Husband’s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar L. Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Many thanks for your letter may 8th making appointment for Mrs. [3591] check-physical reading for June 17, 1944 between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. We can advise now that she will be in her room - Room …, Hotel …, N.C. - at the appointed time on that Saturday afternoon in quiet meditation and prayer.
There are no particular questions to ask. However, she finds that the internal doses of olive oil often cause some discomfort and wonders if this is an expected reaction. She is perfectly willing to continue these doses if necessary but wonders if they do more harm than good. Moreover, she is not looking forward to the prospect of the hot castor oil packs during the hot summer months with much relish.
All of the treatments suggested in her first reading viz: the combination of oils for rubbing, the olive oil doses, castor oil packs, electric treatments (gold, silver and camphor) have been followed very carefully and thoroughly. I might add that up to the time of our marriage in 1928 Mrs. [3591] was a very efficient registered nurse and you will understand from this that all suggestions made by you have been followed under a strict schedule.
Since about February 1st, when treatments you suggested were started, she has improved in her condition noticeably and has gained eight pounds in weight. Prior to that time she had been gradually losing weight and was becoming more crippled all the time. She is still far from being well and still suffers a lot of pain but the amount of pain and the crippling effects seem to have been arrested and she does not appear to be getting worse all the time and we think shows some improvement.
As requested, am pleased to give a history of her case as follows:-
As a girl about 12 years of age she had empyema following pleuro pneumonia and has a deep scar as a result. In the 1920’s she had an abdominal operation including an appendectomy. Both of these conditions resulted in scar tissue and may have some bearing on her present condition.
She had an older brother who was confined to bed two or three years before his death with an arthritic condition so the present arthritis may possibly be hereditary.
Mrs. [3591] had normal good health until about 1930 when we were living in Cleveland, Ohio. At that time, she had severe attack of neuritis and got treatments from medical doctors and chiropractors there. Finally, upon medical advice most of her teeth were extracted and she got dentures. The pains lessened and became irregular but did not entirely disappear. This was the start of her present illness.
In 1932 and 1933 we were living in Buffalo, N.Y. and she had severe pains in her back in the vicinity of the spleen. She was treated by various medical doctors in Buffalo, also chiropractors, without success. She finally was in care of a kidney specialist there and was cystoscoped a couple of times and for a couple of years or more wore a medical corset with pad to keep one kidney, that was said to be too low to drain properly, in proper position.
In 1936 my work involved transfer to Washington, D.C. where the pains in the back continued and she was in hands of medical doctors frequently for her kidneys.
In 1937 I was again transferred to Pittsburgh, Pa. this time. Her condition grew steadily worse and pains more severe. She was in care of various medical doctors and finally entered Pittsburgh Hospital for observation and tests by a kidney specialist and a pathologist who reported after a couple of weeks that they could find nothing wrong with her kidneys and they suggested examination by a gynecologist.
After this examination, the doctors advised a complete hysterectomy and this operation was performed with some difficulty due to scar tissue from the previous abdominal operation.
Following this latest operation, she seemed to improve but after a few weeks got hot flashes and developed pleurisy which did not respond to treatment and she went back to Pittsburgh Hospital for treatment under care of a different medical doctor for a couple more weeks. While there trouble developed in her right ankle which got swollen and stiff and sore. She got electro therapy treatments for this of one kind and another without help. Then a orthopedic specialist treated the ankle in the hospital without success and she finally came home.
She was then placed in care of a new medical doctor who handled her case very carefully and conscientiously for a year. All this time she suffered with chronic pleurisy and the trouble in her ankle spread through the body. This doctor had more chest X-rays suspecting tuberculosis and tested blood for all kinds of fevers but was never able to find the source of infection. He finally advised a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The Mayo Clinic made X-rays and test of all kinds and finally diagnosed the case as “fibrocitis” which it seems is arthritis affecting the tendons rather than bones or muscles. They could not find the source of the infection and could not suggest any treatment except to follow the sun and get in a sunnier climate. That, and opiates for pain and to induce sleep. They also found the heart irregular, an old condition that had existed for years which I forgot to mention earlier.
By this time, Mrs. [3591]‘s hands had been so badly crippled and deformed for some time that she had little use of them. Also, the hips, knees etc. went bad occasionally so that she could not walk. We kept on with injections of theelin in oil etc., etc. of that nature and also tried treatments of a naturopath without result.
In latter part of 1939 and early in 1940 we had moved to Ramsey, N.J. pending removal to the South. While in Ramsey, she had very severe pleurisy for weeks and the medical doctor had more X-rays of the chest made suspecting tuberculosis but they were negative.
We finally moved here to … in May 1940. She has been under more or less continual medical care since that time but medical doctors have not been able to do anything for her except give intravenous injections of saliscylates, which have now had to be discontinued because the veins thrombosed, and opiates for pain and sleep.
We live in a hotel because nothing else short of a sanitarium meets our needs and we want to be together.
This brings us to the time when we got in touch with you after reading the book - “There is a River” we told you nothing of all this medical history until now.
Your reading indicated to us that conditions were known to you and we lost no time in following your God-given instructions. As stated before there is some improvement and conditions are not getting worse all the time as they were before. As an example of improvements, let us say that amounts of codeine for pain and barbiturates for sleep have been cut away down. The crippled hands seem to have limbered up more. There has been deformity of the coccyx which is sore and bent all out of shape but it seems some better. Eliminations are better without use of daily enemas as before. The Achilles tendons were in such bad shape that it was impossible to stand or walk flat footed only on tip toe but that condition is improved so she can stand flat.
Deposits of calcium, or something of the sort, have always been exuded through the skin in all parts of the body forehead, skull, jaws, and various joints and these deposits seem to travel about the body. These conditions continue.
Since coming to … the patient has also suffered from attacks of asthma which medical doctors combatted with autogenous vaccine but lately it has been impossible to make vaccine due to some sort of fungus infection which produces too yeasty a specimen.
This history of the case and present condition is only that of a layman and may not make much sense from a medical standpoint but is as truthful as we can make it.
We are very well satisfied with the help obtained through you already and hope that you will be able to make further beneficial suggestions.
Hoping that you may be long spared to help us and others like us, we thank God every day for Edgar Cayce and the help we are getting from Him through you.
With our best love and good wishes, and looking forward to hearing from you again shortly after June 17th.
Yours very truly,
