GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3597].
-
As we find, there is much that is very good in the way of the physical and mental reactions of this body, yet there are those disturbances which cause rather dis-ease than disease.
-
These areas from the incoordinating of the cerebrospinal system and the sympathetic reaction, especially as related to the circulation between heart, lungs, liver and kidneys.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [3597], we are speaking of:
-
First we find that the blood supply varies as to the pressure and the pulsation. For there are periods when disturbances arise from lack of circulation and there comes a lower or a higher or variable temperature - there are periods it is subnormal, others when it is abnormal.
-
These cause nausea, headaches, the feeling of being oppressed or depressed, or both. These are the reactions between impulses and conditions that exist with the body.
-
In the nerve forces of the body, we find the sources, in a manner, of the disturbances; that is, sources of deflection at least, in the centers where cerebrospinal and sympathetic coordinate the better - 2nd and 3rd cervical, 3rd and 4th dorsal, 9th dorsal, lumbar axis. These are areas where this dis-association or lack of coordination reflects more. At times we find that the body will have pains and a heaviness across the area above the point of the hips, again it will be along the side of the spine and about the middle of the back. Then there will be those achey dull feelings through the area of the shoulder blades - this stretchy, achey pain. These are the disturbances.
-
The organs we find not so much disturbed, though there are periods when there tends to be sluggishness in the liver, again there will be overactivity or underactivity through the kidneys, there will be those periods when there is the depression, the shortness of breath, or the tendency to sigh or to get a good deep breath. But except for the disturbance in the liver these are as yet purely reflex and not organic.
-
In making corrections for these disturbances:
-
We would first prepare these properties to be taken as a tonic. This may the body prepare himself or have prepared by one who can do so.
-
To one-half gallon of distilled water, preferably in an enamel container or glass, add - in the order named:
Yellow Dock Root…1/2 ounce, Snake Root…1/2 ounce, Prickly Ash Bark…1/2 ounce, Buchu Leaves…10 grains, Mandrake Root…1 grain, or (its equivalent in the ground or pulverized…1/2 grain.)
-
Let these boil together until the quantity will be reduced to one pint. Strain and then add 1/2 ounce Balsam of Tolu cut in two ounces of Spirits Fermenti or a one and one-half ounce of grain alcohol.
-
The dose would be a teaspoonful once each day when ready to retire.
-
Most of these properties are emits but are active principles upon the liver and the blood stream, some as astringents, others as purifiers, others causing the organs of the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs to become clarified.
-
Also we would have corrections made, not as adjustments, but rather as massages - as by a Swedish masseur or neuropath. These should follow a steam bath, not a dry steam but either the Fume Bath or Steam Cabinet Bath. These should not be too strong. If they are taken as Fume Baths, use witchhazel for the rubdown following same - two ounces of witchhazel and one-quarter ounce of Lanolin. Massage this along the spine, especially in the areas indicated, where the coordinations between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems are to be aided. These would be not so much spinal adjustments, then, but a treating of the emunctory centers at those areas along the sympathetic nerve system. Thus the Swedish or neuropathic massage is preferable.
-
Do these and we will correct the conditions with this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What caused the recurrent susceptibility to illness? (A) As indicated, this incoordination between suggestive forces and central nerves and blood supply, producing reflexes in the organs indicated; carrying, though, those tendencies of malaria or undulant fever, as strep in blood.
Thus the purifier, thus the corrective conditions, thus the distributing of energies through the system in those applications indicated. And do all of those things suggested.
-
(Q) Any suggestions as to diet? (A) This should not be of meats nor altogether of vegetables or fruits, but a well balanced diet, carrying nuts, fruits and vegetables. If meats are taken at all, let it be a little fish, fowl and lamb, but nor fried foods.
-
(Q) Would you suggest a physician who could administer the treatments suggested? (A) As indicated, a neuropath or Swedish masseur.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable to have a check reading later? When? (A) Let’s wait until later and then we can tell. This will depend upon whether there is response by the body. This is part of the consciousness to be gained. See, the disturbance is between the suggestive and the reality of the central system. They don’t get along always well together.
-
(Q) Any mental or spiritual advice to help meet this condition? (A) The making of the activities of the body and the mind useful is the means of contributing to the well-being - the body, mind and soul coordinated. Thus coordinate the activities of the physical through which each portion of those sympathetic associations would coordinate. If you will do these we will get help.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/21/44 Report: ”…I am feeling well now and will send a complete medical report from M.D. in a couple of months…”
R2. 12/10/47 Report: ”…I had a physical reading in Jan. or Feb. around 1944 or 1945. At the time that I received the reading I was being treated by a psychiatrist - an M.D., of good repute. When he discovered that I was following the reading he was not sympathetic. I followed his wishes and discontinued the treatment feeling that I would continue the A.R.E. treatment if I was not cured by the psychiatrist. I had taken about one week’s A.R.E. treatment. I felt that the A.R.E. treatment would have helped me. Also it turned out that I was enabled to cure myself with the help of the psychiatrist. I feel that I am 100% well now and have been for 2 - 2 1/2 years. When I attended the reading after mine was similar to mine. I talked with Dr. [3602] later and felt that his trouble was basically like mine, psychological, or attitude, or as the reading said, “dis-ease”. It was Dr. [3602] a dentist, whose reading followed mine and who was the … Club of … where I held my residence at that time. I have lost my reading. Would you be kind enough to send me a copy?”
R3. 12/10/51 Report: Chief Complaint; Chronic colds and feeling of coldness and weakness. Date of onset; Gradual from about 1931 or 1932, until 1945. Reoccurrence; none. I asked my physician for his records of the case (for your files). He was unsympathetic and did not send them. In the reading I considered the description of my condition as accurate. The reading described symptoms which I had not bothered to mention to anyone. Before the reading I had tried about 15 doctors and clinics to no avail. At the time of the reading I had already started treatment with a psychiatrist with a splendid record. I carried out the suggestions of the reading for one week and I felt that I was helped by them. The psychiatrist was unsympathetic with the readings and requested that I drop the Cayce treatment or his own. Since I was rather well along with the psychiatrist, I continued with him having in mind to revert to the Cayce treatment if I was not cured. It turned out that my symptoms disappeared under the treatment of the psychiatrist. Since then I have been handling heavy schedules satisfactorily. I thought the psychiatrist’s diagnosis was close to the Cayce reading although the former was narrower and of different nomenclature. On the whole I thought the Cayce reading accurate, effective, worthwhile and even miraculous. In addition; one of the most helpful items from the readings in my case is the explaining of the three basic drives which must be coped with in order to have a balanced happiness. As I understand the readings they are: 1. To perpetuate the race. 2. To be well thought of among one’s fellows. 3. To get ever closer to the Creative Force.
R4. 10/18/52 Comments by D. H. Fogel, M.D. (heart specialist):
[3597] Physical Rdg. Strep, carrying those tendencies of malaria or undulant fever as strep in blood.
Background
Background
B1. 9/7/43 Letter: “Would you be kind enough to give me a reading for a poor health condition? Enclosed is a copy of the symptoms. After reading TIR, I am convinced that you can help me. I was raised a Swedenborgian but am interested in any group that takes the life of Jesus as a basis for action. I have a good job running a business and would be willing to contribute accordingly to your work of helping other people… I will be free anytime after Oct. 1st, and I could go to Virginia Beach or remain at home as you see fit. If you have later cases more urgent than mine, I would not expect to be given readings ahead of the urgent cases.”
Enclosure: Feel cold. Temperature usually 97 1/2 to 98. Catch colds in head very often. Feel heavy and lazy. Feel sleepy. Need 9 1/2 hrs. sleep per 24 hrs. Tire easily. These conditions started around 1933 (perhaps before) and got worse till 1942. Since 1942 have improved a little by taking thyroid, pituitary and cortex of adrenal gland extract. Can work 6 to 7 hrs. a day except when in bed with colds, but feel there is an obscure cause of the trouble which is not being treated correctly. Present efficiency of patient about 70%. Cannot store up any reserve strength. Violet ray treatments help some.
B2. 11/1/43 EC’s letter: ”…It is not absolutely necessary, but we prefer if it is possible, for you to be present to have your reading, but most of our readings are given for people who are not present. They keep the period in prayer and meditation and let us know exactly where they will be at the hour of the reading…”
B3. 11/12/43 ”…I will plan to arrive on Jan. 25th and will make final arrangements with your secretary at that time…”
B4. 1/26/44 Oral report: Will send checkup from hospital. Eight to ten years has been repeatedly ill, coming on gradually. For the last five years especially has found that he can work a few days and then comes down sick for a couple of weeks - chiefly colds - stamina and resistance very low, body temperature drops easily. Once in a while a bit of depression or discouragement that goes with the condition. Been to twenty doctors, winding up with Pratt Diagnostic Hospital checkup - been to osteopath too. Most of treatments suggest gland disorder, others have called it a mental disturbance.
