This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [3602], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 and 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3602]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, there are general improvements. Though these are rather slow in their response, we find that there are definite improvements.

4. We would continue with the suggested applications.

5. The only addition we would make would be the regular use of the Appliance indicated, and once a week we would add a Fume Bath and massage - this outside of the massage to be given daily following the use of the Appliance.

6. Thus we should soon see more definite improvements for the body.

7. Do these and we will make better conditions.

9. (Q) Is there anything more I can do to help it along? (A) As indicated, we would only add that there be a little more consistent and frequent use of the applications suggested. Once a week have the hydrotherapy treatment including a Fume Bath using Witchhazel, followed by a thorough massage with Pine Oil when rubbing the body down.

10. (Q) How long may it be until I will notice definite improvement? (A) As just indicated, there is seen definite improvement now, but these will come much more rapidly. Remember, these conditions are growths; that is, it has required some time for the body to lose the control of the muscular force in the brachial center and along the edge of the clavicle. But if these massages are used, especially with the keeping of a balance in the system, we will soon see real improvements.

Dear Dr. [3602]

It was certainly a real pleasure to meet you and Dr. […]. I wish you had had the time to remain with us longer and to have witnessed one of our undertakings to be of help to others.

I do hope you will find the opportunity to be back this way again and that we may have the pleasure of your company often.

I trust that the information indicated for you will prove to be just what is needed at this time for correction of the disturbance with yourself.

R2. 4/19/44 EC’s letter to HLC [overseas]:

Some weeks ago I had two letters from two of the … of the … school. One of them was Dr. [3602], the … of Dental Surgery. He had suddenly lost control of the use of his fore-finger on his right hand. They could find no cause or reason for it. At the same time I had a letter from Dr. […], who is one of the Deans in …, asking me if I would undertake the reading. We did it, and a few days ago, unannounced, Dr. [3602] and Dr. […] both walked in. It turned out that Dr. […] was a very, very close friend of Dr. Munsterburg, and when he read the book, as he said, it was of very much interest. As you recall, there was some question raised by Miss Munsterburg as to whether her father was ever to see me in Hopkinsville or not. Dr. […] told me of talking with Miss Munsterburg about this, and that he assured her he knew her father had been there and he had talked with him, and besides no one in the world could possibly have given a description of the activity of Dr. Munsterburg, without having known or experienced the meeting with him. He knew him too well.

About Dr. [3602]. He told me that the reading for Dr. [3602] was excellent, in fact, a perfect analysis of the conditions. How I arrived at it, he didn’t know and it didn’t make any difference, if the suggestions would do any good. It was suggested for him to use the radio active, with a massage and a little internal medicine very near akin to the same thing he had given him. He said he would have to say, while the diagnosis and suggestions weren’t orthodox medicine, the results that he was obtaining were certainly all anyone could ask for, which is of course what we are working for. They of course went to see the records, and as he told me, “Now if you want these records to get to people for the most good, just set your price and […] will pay it, but of course we are like every other organization in a research work, we want to keep them, and we had rather have it when you are through. I assure you […] will take them when it is put together like this is. I told him I had nothing to do with that, that it was up to you and Edgar Evans; that when I was through you could do what you pleased with it. Maybe we are not foolish in going to so much trouble.

Of course we have had to buy five or six new files and are going to have to buy some more pretty soon. Yes, of course they are keeping the names of everyone we hear from. Wherever there are copy letters, we are keeping those also. Where they are written form letters, and no copy kept, we are keeping the names and addresses. They change very rapidly, for the number of bulletins mailed out on membership now is something over 2,000 and that’s a right smart growth from the last time you mailed them out I think. That’s outside of the active membership and the sponsors for the research work.

Now about the publications. We have had to print the Cayce booklet again, and had 10,000 copies printed. This was done by some man in Norfolk. We have had the Essenes printed; also Meditation. We are having an article that Millicent Horton wrote on Ra-Ta. No names are used except the ones given in the reading, and my own. I think this will be a very good booklet for certain people, as well as certain others that may be written. Harmon has been giving most of his time to writing the Bulletin and the weekly letter. The weekly letter, of course has caused more comment than anything we have ever done. As many people say, it is just enough for one to get what’s going on, and not so much as to not have time to read it. Practically every person seems to be very enthusiastic about it.

R3. 4/27/44 EC’s letter to Edgar Evans Cayce [overseas]:

Then there were the two professors who came from … a few days ago, unannounced. Dr. [3602], the … of Dental Surgery, had had a reading, and Dr. […], one of the Deans of …, had written me asking for a reading for Dr. [3602], if possible. When they came in, during the discussion, Dr. […] said to me, “Well, of course it is not orthodox medicine that you are giving, but the analysis of the condition was perfect. If you had been an extraordinarily good anatomist, you might have been able to sit down and figure it out from the questions we asked, but without the man being present you couldn’t do it, unless there was some supernatural means. Be that as it may, the results that he is getting from following the suggestions so far are all and more than we could ask for, and that is the real proof.” When we went in to get the reading that had been made, they looked at the files. He looked at several of the folders and said, “Well Mr. Cayce, if you ever want to sell these reports you can set your own price, anything within five figures. They are kept the way they should be and no one can question that. Of course we would like to have the complete report, for doubtless you will work on for several years.” I said, “No they are not for sale. I don’t know what will ever be done with them, but they are the only thing I will have to leave my two boys; they can do what they please with them; give them away or anything else.” It is at least interesting, isn’t it?

R4. 6/15/44 [3602]‘s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I know you are interested in a report from me as to how I am getting along under the treatment suggested by you.

I have very consciously carried out all of your instructions, even going so far as to purchase a second Radio-Appliance to have when I was in the country week-ends. I have also carried out the massage, and in fact everything that was suggested, but I still fail to see any change for the better in the coordination of my fingers. Every other way I feel splendidly.

I don’t suppose there is anything else that you could suggest other than what you have, but I did want you to know that I have cooperated in every way and am sorry indeed to have to report no progress.

R5. 7/8/44 EC’s letter:

Dear Dr. [3602]

I have yours of the 15th and hope you will pardon me for not replying much sooner.

We have been through our annual Congress and have had quite an enormous crowd for our facilities, and trying to handle same has kept us so busy that we haven’t had the opportunity to keep up with the correspondence as we should.

I trust that I may be able to make an appointment for a check-up sometime within the next few months so we can see if the information has anything further to offer. I would like to do this if you agree. Let me know about this and about what time would be most convenient for you. We are quite busy and are a year in advance with appointments, but want to work in these check-readings when possible.

R6. 9/26/44 [3602]‘s letter:

Miss Gladys Davis c/o Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia

My dear Miss Davis:

I am going to write you quite a long letter and I hope you will have the patience to read it through. I have just received your note and appointment for a check-reading for December 13th, 1944. I don’t know whether you remember that Dr. […] and I called on Mr. Cayce in May and I think I met you at that time and chatted with you while we were waiting for Mr. Cayce.

I wrote you in July hoping I would be able to get some suggestions that I might be using during my vacation period, but did not receive this letter until September 5th. I carried out the battery treatments faithfully for one hour every day for eight weeks, but upon my return to the office today I found things about the same as when I went away, if not a little worse.

Now I am facing a very heavy appointment list and I am just up against it to know what to do. At the time of my visit to Mr. Cayce I remember he said a check-reading did not require much time, and I wondered if you could not help me out by getting an immediate one for me.

I know this is asking an awful lot of you, but it may be the means of enabling me to go on with my work and my service to a great many people. Otherwise, I am afraid I will have to make up my mind to give up and that seems such a pity when there is so much need for my work, and physically, I am so well able to do it.

I do hope, Miss Davis, you will understand my problem and do something for me before I have given up. Would it be asking too much to have you reply to this letter by air mail as I am so anxious to know what to do.

Please give my best regards to Mr. Cayce and tell him that I hope his health will be improved. Both Dr. […] and I enjoyed our visit with him and I certainly came away with the feeling that I would be helped.

R7. 10/3/44 GD’s letter:

Dear Dr. [3602]

It has been several weeks since Mr. Cayce has been able to keep any appointments made for readings. Consequently, we are not able to give you any assurance that he can give you the check physical reading on December 13th, though we are hoping and praying that he will long before that time he will at least be able to give readings for the more serious cases, the appointments for which have already been made.

Strangely enough, Mr. Cayce is afflicted with a condition similar to yours; that is, his left arm from the elbow down is absolutely useless. It is not the result of a stroke but from complete nerve exhaustion. He has forced himself beyond his strength and, therefore, it will take time, patience and persistence to build back that reserve energy which has been used.

I certainly hope that we will be able to get your reading on December 13th. In the meantime, I suggest that you get in touch with Dr. C. R. Wakeling, 220 Clarendon St., Boston, who is somewhat familiar with our work and may be able to help you.

After following the treatment recommended in his own reading over a period of two months, Mr. Cayce is just now beginning to show response. I can’t understand why you have not been able to see some improvement, but perhaps Dr. Wakeling can go over your readings and find out just what the trouble is.

R8. 11/21/44 [3602]‘s letter:

Miss Gladys Davis, Secretary Association for Research & Enlightment Virginia Beach, Virginia

My dear Miss Davis:

I received your letter of October 3rd and in it you asked me to write to you two or three weeks before the time assigned for my physical reading, which was December 13th.

I suppose Mr. Cayce is probably not yet able to give readings, but I thought I would do as you asked and tell you that at that time I expect to be at …, Massachusetts.

I am still having the same difficulty only more so and I think, were it not for the hope that I might get something from this coming reading, I would be tempted to give up. However, I will endeavor to carry on, if I can, until such time as Mr. Cayce is able to arrange the reading.

I am sorry he is having such a wretched time and hope he soon improves. Would it be asking too much of you to drop me a line and let me know what the prospect is as I really am in desperate shape.
