This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 30th day of June, 1933, in accordance with request made by the father, Mr. […], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [342].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ill. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions that disturb the body, [367].
-
Now, as we find, there are those specific conditions that produce the present disturbance in the general physical forces.
-
While much of the disturbance is the effect of disturbances, there are also necessary corrections for the physical body to be brought to a normal reaction that deal with present conditions; while the effects that must be overcome of old disturbances, there are the changes from the developing body that are necessary to be taken into consideration also.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body, [367] we are speaking of:
-
While the body is developing in structure and in physical and mental developments, there is the effect of a bacilli that attacked the covering of the muscles and the lymph circulation, producing that which may be called after effects of paralysis of the infantile nature.
-
The development of the glands, as in relation to the changes in the body-physical from the lad to the more mature activities, must also be considered.
-
THE BLOOD SUPPLY needs especial attention in the direction that, with the relieving of the pressure in the cerebro- spinal system and - especially - in the locomotory centers, the effect of assimilated forces may coordinate the more proper with the replenishing; hence bringing for the body a much more normal activity; for these will aid in making for a better coordination in the mental AND the physical activities of the body also.
-
Hence, in the beginning, we would begin with these:
-
First we would have prepared a Radio-Active Appliance, vibration of the regular nature, and make the applications to the opposite extremities of the body; that is: First attach an anode to the right wrist, the other anode or plate to the left ankle. The next day, in making application, attach the first anode to the left wrist (this over the portion where the pulse is felt) and the other anode to the inside of the right ankle, just above what is called the shin bone.
-
The applications should be made each day, evening preferable; or at a specific time in the evening is preferable, and should be left on for a period of at least one hour.
-
Keep the anodes very clean and bright in the regular manner, with more ice being used in crock than water.
-
We would also begin at the same time with small doses regularly of Atomidine; this taken 3 drops in a glass of water twice each day, see?
-
Every other day, we would also massage the cerebro-spinal system - and the limbs that show their activity in locomotion, but specifically in the centers of the brachial plexus and to the 2nd cervical and the lumbar plexus, or from the 12th dorsal to the end of the spine (and these specific centers, of course, the 4th lumbar and the 1st and 2nd dorsal more specific, but the rest of the cerebro-spinal system as indicated) - with those portions of the limbs that show inactivity through the suppression or repression that is produced by the drying or inactivity of the lymph and exterior circulation, or superficial circulation, as well as internal through these portions of the system - with a compound prepared in this manner:
-
To 1/2 gallon of straight gasoline, we would add:
Gum Camphor…1/2 ounce, Oil of Cedar…1 ounce, Oil of Mustard…1/4 ounce, Sassafras Oil…1 ounce.
With the use of same, shake the solution well together before a small quantity is poured into a shallow container (preferably, of course, china); for the Oil of Sassafras will tend to separate, but may be shaken into the solution each time before using. Only use that quantity which will be absorbed by the body.
-
This we would do every other day, see? When this becomes, or should this become (owing to the heat and inactivity) too irritating at times when this has been massaged, we would massage OVER same a very small quantity of camphorated oil to relieve the burning.
-
The matter of the diet should necessarily be considered, too, rather specifically; and these foods we would give as an outline, to be changed as the activities physically are increased; for, as we would find, in fifteen to eighteen months we should have almost - if not wholly - a normal activity of this body.
-
We would find that in six to eight weeks there should be the re-vamping of those applications for the body, both mechanical and therapeutic.
-
As to the diet, then:
-
Mornings - citrus fruit juices or stewed fruits; preferably prunes and the pie plant (rhubarb, you see), and when this is stewed the sugar added should preferably be the heavy brown sugar or saccharin or beet sugar.
-
Also milk may be taken, but preferably - for this body - the dried milks, prepared as cereal drinks, would be better for the body than those where too much curd remains in the milk. While raw milk would be well, were it protected sufficiently, the heated milks would not be so well. Hence the dried milk would be the preferable.
-
Noons - a whole meal of GREEN vegetables, particularly of lettuce (and the soporific character would be the better; that is, that which does not head), tomatos, celery and the like, occasionally with dressings on same, using peas and beans (that have been NEARLY but not wholly cooked) mixed with the raw vegetables.
-
Between meals we find it would also be well to use a glass of the dried milk, preferably with the yolk of an egg beat in it; cool, and made to the taste. Cocoa malt is also very good, but not too much of chocolate at this time for the body - or of chocolate tastes.
-
Evenings - a whole meal of well-cooked vegetables, with meats that are VERY light; but liver and fowl may be taken in moderation.
-
Do not overload the stomach, yet we will find that those foods tending to make for the building up of a fresh blood and nerve supply will coordinate the better with the manipulations and treatments that have been outlined; for these will create for the system a flow and an activity through the proper channels - both the white and gray nerve tissue, both from brain and sympathetic nerve system - if these conditions are followed.
-
Do that, and in eight weeks call again.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 7/5/33 Mr. [342]‘s letter: …, Ill.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Mrs. […] has shown me the reading for [367] and since the reading seems to indicate the condition was caused by “a bacilli that attacked the covering of the muscles and the lymph circulation producing that which may be called after effects of paralysis of infantile nature” and the paralysis below the waist including limbs was the after effect or one might say the immediate effect of a bullet for a target rifle striking the spine, splintering a vertebra, passing through the spleen and out under the heart. Naturally it was injury to the spinal cord that caused the trouble.
Perhaps we should have explained this when we requested the reading, however we understood from Mr. […] that this was not necessary but questions could be asked.
Mr. […] wrote a list of six questions I believe but these were not answered at least directly. Of course the reading does say that the body should be restored to normal or nearly so in 15 to 18 months but as the case was based upon what Mr. & Mrs. […] considers the wrong premises I at this writing believe they will not have the necessary confidence in the instructions.
Furthermore they have tried and are using some what similar treatment recommended including electric machine. They have a chiropractor giving treatments, prescribing diet etc.
This accident happened about 3-1/2 yrs. ago and during that time the body growth has progressed and while the limbs are not filled out they have lengthened according to which this development does not parallel effects infantile paralysis.
At first he had no feeling in the bladder but this changed about 6 mos. ago so he can somewhat control his urine.
The lower part of the bowel about 4 inches is paralyzed but by using a dilator they have good control of that function. I am explaining this because I am very anxious to see if some thing hopeful can be done and the confidence of the parents be enlisted in the program.
We seemed to have gotten a bad start so far as the latter is concerned. I have not talked to Mr. […] about the matter but I suppose Mrs. […] feelings are his also. Their oldest son is studying medicine and during this summer doing some instructing. I have not talked with him but I know the usual attitude of medical men.
Now you having years of experience have no doubt had similar situations which give experience in adjusting.
Under such conditions do you have the readings given over or just what do you recommend?
Somehow I felt you could and would give the necessary help. One of the reasons I wanted to get the reading first was to see if it were in the shape to cause them to have faith in it or act accordingly - furthermore if there was no hope I would say nothing to them about it.
Inasmuch as we have started it and I still feel you can give help to restore this boy’s body to normal or nearly so I am asking for your earnest consideration for recommending the next procedure.
Sincerely yours, [342]

If so, how soon? Is there any possibility of relieving his paralysis? Is the present treatment the most efficacious possible? Should any appliances be used? If so, what type or kind? Should electric tr. be used? If so, what kind and description? What should be done to prevent the progress of spine curvature? What should be done to give him the best mental attitude?”
