This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 12th day of July, 1933, in accordance with request made by himself through his wife, Mrs. [320], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Born October 7, 1879, at 8:30 P.M., in Frankfort [Frankfurt?] on Oder, Germany. Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York, N.Y. (Life Reading Suggestion)
-
EC: We have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the present entity, [373].
-
In entering, there are many phases of influences that would be of interest to this entity in the present, from the studies or reading along the varied lines of thought.
-
Hence these may be taken from any of those angles or directions, were such chosen.
-
As we find, those that may be the more helpful, applicable and practical in the present experience, would be - we would direct - from the astrological sojourns, rather than from other inclinations; for these, as we find, deal more directly with the mental and material inclinations of an entity in most appearances in the earth.
-
For, as seen from a sojourn in an environment that is in the experience of this entity, in that of Jupiter; these influences deal more directly with impulses, inclinations, trend of thought, and that which produces same. It is much as the manner of dwelling in a particular clime or country influences an entity, as the entity experiences from the Fatherland and the adopted land.
-
Hence, as the customs or the laws of varied experiences or sojourns wield that trend of thought in an individual’s experience in earth’s sojourn, so does the environ to the soul and its soul body affect impulses in an entity’s activities in a material sojourn.
-
As to what the entity does about or with the application of self and its knowledge of such associations of mental thought, so does the influence affect the material life or passes rather as that which becomes passe’ in an everyday or earthly experience.
-
With Jupiter as the ruling influence, then, we find these innate in the entity - without respect to will that has been applied in the experience in the present sojourn:
-
One with an adaptability to comprehend a large scope or vision of things, peoples and conditions; hence one that finds the ability to retain in the physical mind much that would pass the observation of many another associate.
-
One, then, that could or might adapt self to be an overseer in capacities that require the ability to vision or judge individual activity in a commercial or in a social, or in an economic, or in a political way or manner.
-
One that of self thinks well of self’s opinions; not bigotry, in the manner that is compared with the abilities of the entity, yet may at times be considered by others as tending or a trend in that direction.
-
One that finds there have been periods in the present experience when apparently that which, without cause or reason, seems to have become good judgement on the part of self as to its relations to things, individuals or places, at other periods - the same character of judgment - fails to bring or produce or to give an understanding that has become, or is, as comprehensible as at other periods.
-
This is an inclination from the sojourn of the entity in Uranus, as compared with - or from - Jupiter.
-
Hence we find also occult and mystic forces as being a portion of the mental experience.
-
Remember, we are speaking of mental experiences (Please put this aside).
-
In this also we find that there is the influence of affability in periods of the entity’s activity; at others when the entity may attempt to make for friendships, or seek to make those connections or establish definite relations, no amount of preparation apparently makes for the same experience in one as it does in another.
-
Such experiences in the present (we are reverting now to the material mind) have made for that which has developed in the entity one that is rather wary, or at times appears suspicious to others - and as if contemplating the abilities of groups, individuals or societies, to produce that which may have been even the actual experience of those who have embraced the thought of such group or associates.
-
(This is in line with that which has been given, that would make for a representative of a diplomatic relation or position.)
-
As from Venus and its relations with Mercury, from sojourns of the entity, irrespective of will, innate, there have been brought those activities late in the present experience in relation to affairs of the heart; rather, through Mercury, these have been of the order pertaining to that which may be called duty, rather than sentiment alone directing the activity of the material conditions. Not that sentiment is not a portion of the entity’s experience, but rather the character of sentiment that bespeaks of duty than of sentiment that may be from sentiment’s - or sentimental - sake.
-
As to those things pertaining to the experiences of the entity in the earth (Now we turn to MATERIAL conditions):
-
In the one before this we find the entity was in the land of nativity, during those periods when there were the gatherings of those that would defend an ideal in a foreign or in the native land - or during the Crusade era.
-
The entity then, in the name Schllenger, made for developments; being among those in the Crusade army, and GAINED through the experience. For, with ideals - and the mental and physical body attuned to carry these out, the soul and mental development must ensue; though the body-physical may suffer or may be counted, from earth standards, as a failure.
-
Rather did the entity, though, gain mentally, materially, physically, through the experience; rising in power, even in the land of the Moslems, and in those periods gained in the abilities to merit the better thought even of the persons, individuals or groups that were pitted at war against the entity and the group.
-
The entity became as a leader, and assisted in establishing relations that became helpful to both the defeated and winner in those expeditions.
-
In the present experience this thought of the Moslems is of a PECULIAR interest to the entity, as is the varied thought pertaining to spiritual life, making for an ability that is indicated through the mental forces as a director, leader, overseer and counselor to men in material affairs, in those things that deal with things and peoples, and their relationships one to another.
-
Before this we find the entity was in that period when there were the gatherings in the land known as the Roman, when there was the distributing and gathering together of those that would embrace a tenet, a thought, a purpose.
-
The entity then was among those that were in the senate of that land and those peoples; hence one in power, in the name Romanolau.
-
In the experience the entity gained and lost; for the entity remained true to that to which it had ever pledged itself through the experience, yet not hardened, not wavered, by those acts or activities of the peoples through the land. The entity in MATERIAL things lost through the latter portion of experience, but gained much in the spiritual, for the entity gained in the services expended for country and for the peoples. The losses were only in creating hates that arose with some in higher positions.
-
In the present from the experience may the entity gain in the application of LAW, as pertains to peoples in their relations one with another; and also in that which may pertain to speculation, when applied to exchange in varied lands or country - but in commodities, no.
-
Before this we find the entity was in that land now known as the Egyptian, in the period when there were the gatherings of the peoples for the return of the banished priest.
-
The entity then was among those that were the keepers of the Temple, and in the name Ptli-Ilo.
-
In the experience the entity lost and gained; lost during the experience when there were the attempts to be on both sides at once; gained when, with the return of the priest, the entity made personal application of self to the building up of the understanding of the spiritual laws - and of the relationships of man to man by such laws.
-
In the present, through that pertaining to history, writing, overseeing, may the entity make the channel through which the material affairs may advance, through which the soul and spiritual forces may have the opportunity for the greater advancement. In every soul this should be a warning and a direction:
-
DO ever in self that thou knowest to be right, though it may make of self even an outcast to thine neighbor.
-
Know in whom thou hast believed, for the spirit of Right guards those who choose His way in directing the mental and material life.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/12/33 When EC awoke from above reading he said he had again [See 294-19 Reports, re usual experience.] had the experience of going to the hall of records, to the old man with the books. This time, however, he saw and felt himself to be a bubble traveling through water to arrive at the place where he always gets the information. [See Par. R2 below.]
R2. 9/7/33 Explanation was given as to the significance of the bubble experience in Work Rdg. 254-68, Par. 4-A.
R3. 7/27/33 He reported on his son [362]‘s Life Rdg. Then:
Regarding my own reading as given by you I have no fault to find with the character part of your reading. That your first endeavor was conveyed in German surprised me as much, as in another way, more or less confidential to myself, it seems quite illuminating. I only regret that I do not feel at liberty to enter into this phase at present, nor could I do so in writing. On the other hand I may say that I personally do not think, speak, write or produce anything in German, unless necessity requires it and which is quite rare, except that occasionally an unusual word may enter into my head the definition of which is clearer and more expressive and to the point in German or French or even Italian, for I have happened to have lived in all these countries during my impressionistic age, - than it would be in English. In such cases only, it is for me to find the best definition which expresses such word than in English.
As to past incarnations, the most recent one does not seem to be mentioned. The first you cite would appear to be the one where I understand to have spent a large part of my life in a monastery in Greece. It is well likely that I joined the crusaders in my own capacity and acted the part you state, which you might agree would appear quite logical with such a training and familiarity in languages I must have had, compared with one who had lived but in Germany at that early age in history.
Somehow the Roman incarnation is a blank to me.
On the other hand, the Egyptian period was a momentous one in more ways than one. Tho’ you did not touch upon one phase of it, (outside my religious occupation), and which was quite a deciding factor in that particular incarnation, as I understand it, I believe it to be correct for an experience in my present life’s adolescent age brought me a stirring reminder which, however, passed and which is as it should be, from the way I understand life today and what it holds in store. Therefore to that extent I fully and knowingly subscribe to your final admonitions or directions.
Many thanks to you and kindest regards from both Mrs. [320] and Yours very sincerely, [373]
R4. 1/12/34 See 275-37, Par. 13-A advising Miss [275] how she can help Mr. [373] in his [psychic?] work.
R5. 1/34 EC, HLC and GD had dinner at the [373]-[320] home, with Mr. [378] and Mrs. [255]. [It was at this meeting that Mr. [373] told GD that the German words in 373-1 were apparently exclamations of his grandparents at the time of his birth.]
R6. 4/26/34 EC’s letter to Mr. [373] and his wife:
I haven’t heard from you for some time. I know you are very busy and possibly have little time for correspondence. I have always, and am still regretting I was not able to be at your home at the last invitation we had. Many, many things have come along that have been very discouraging and disconcerting since I saw you. We are looking forward, though, to a better comprehension as things go along. We are earnestly and, I believe, sincerely seeking to know what is the right.
We are looking forward also to our meeting in June, and are counting on your promise to be here at that time.
I would be very glad to hear from you, and ask to be remembered to all the rest of the folks there.
With kindest personal regards and best wishes, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R7. 5/17/34 Mr. [373]‘s letter:
I could not first understand, when reading your note, what the discouraging conditions might have been with which you were confronted since we saw you last. It so happened, however, that a young man from Staten Island, whom we had not seen for over a year, left permanently for other parts, and he called upon us to say goodbye. Incidentally, he referred to the troubles that had recently developed in the [378] family, and I presume it is one of the things which has been depressing you. I do not know, of course, whether Mr. [378] has returned since, or his departure having been explained, and I am wondering how Mrs. [255] feels about it, for if I could be of any service to her, I would be very glad to do so. So far I have abstained from calling her, for I may say that I am just as bewildered at the moment and effected by it as you are.
There are other things in what generally may be termed spiritual endeavors which have gone awry in the last few months. As to all these things, I have been told that these physical setbacks to spiritual undertakings are often necessary if the physical conditions or vibrations cannot keep pace with the spiritual. Clouds therefore, which form through such conditions are necessary for the ultimate successful outcome, as these clouds will retard and thus prevent an over-ripening of a part of a structure needed as a complete whole for what it is to serve. I can, therefore, not look upon all these things as quite as disastrous as they, for the present, appear to be, for, even for an individual, it is essential to regain his equilibrium and find a balance, for, without the latter, there can be no harmony, and without harmony, there can be no inner progress.
If you will let me know when your meeting is in June, we shall certainly try to come there, always provided that my office duties permit me to leave at the time, which, unfortunately, I cannot foresee so far ahead.
