This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of April, 1931, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [3747], through Dr. Freedon C. Birdi.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. St. Petersbury, Fla. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body [3747], and those conditions physically as affect the body. We find there is an incapacitation produced by pressures in the cerebro-spinal system, which causes a form of inertia, or inability of the nerve forces to function in their proper way and manner. These are brought about by a deterioration, produced by conditions that were brought in former ACTIVITIES of the body. These affect or make for a nerve exhaustion that produces a form of paresis that makes for pressures that have their reaction along the cerebro-spinal system.
-
In meeting the needs, as we find for this body, these may be helped, may be aided, and in time - with consistency and persistency - may the body return to its former activities; not wholly; almost wholly, or in part.
-
First we would find it would be necessary to create those electrical vibratory forces in the system as would make for an enlivening of those centers or ganglia from which the radial forces are effective, or produce the pressures on the system, by the LOOSENING in the system - as it were - those vibratory forces that will enable those pressures to be removed by dissemination, or disintegration, into the circulatory forces as make from portions of the blood supply itself, or acting in a manner of disintegration being set in motion for those pressures and for the replenishing to be applied to the general circulatory system, as would build up those forces necessary for the proper resuscitation of these depletions in the system.
-
Prepare those in the form of the regular wet battery, or those forces in which one is nickel and the other copper. When ready to be used, both of the leads would be attached to a nickel plate at least as large as two inches in diameter, circular in form, cupped towards the edge slightly, see? and attach to the edges, not center, see? These would be attached to this plate - both leads - see? When not in use the plates are kept separate, to be sure - see? Attach, in the beginning, to that of the 3rd and 4th dorsal plexus - see? When attached, the feet will be placed in a WARM salt solution - one to fifty - one part salt to fifty parts water - IODIZED salt, see? This would be used each evening for at least thirty minutes. Be mindful when this is used that it is not OVER used, else nausea will be a result.
-
After using in THIS center for at least seven to twelve days, we would ALTER the center to that of the 3rd and 4th CERVICAL center - see?
-
The morning following (this should be given in evenings - which would be every day, also - see?) we would have an olive oil massage over those of the locomotary centers, or extending along the whole length of the spine.
-
We would also following same (before this is taken off through the bath) use dry heat, PREFERABLY arranged so that the whole body - along the spine especially - receives same, WITH the heat on, see? This may be made in the form of a cabinet, which - when the body may lie prone - can be set over same. Small electrical globes may be attached in same, so that the heat may be raised to at least ninety to ninety-five - see? dry heat. This should be applied for three to five minutes - see?
-
Then the regular applications - that is, for the removal of same.
-
The diets will be along those lines that make for nerve BUILDING. Plenty of the green foods - as celery, salsify - not too much of the asparagus, but only those of the fresh or the green - cabbage, lentils, peas, beans, and such - these may be taken. Little or no meats, to be sure - though those that will add for nerve forces, as tripe, brains, kidneys, liver, spleen, or such, these will be beneficial to the body in small quantities. Do that. Ready for questions. We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/1/31 EC’s letter to [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]:
We are enclosing the reading which was gotten this morning at the appointed time.
Regarding the battery mentioned, we can have this made up here for you if you so desire. We assure you that we want to be of help if at all possible, and will be glad to do anything we can to assist you in carrying out the treatments suggested - which we believe, by experiences through the years - will be most helpful.
Let us hear from you. Hoping that we have been and may be of service, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
P.S. This battery is a new invention (through the readings themselves), and each one is made up differently - as you will see - to apply to each case. We have a young man [Gray Salter] here who devotes his whole time to perfecting these.
R2. 4/8/31 [3747]‘s letter to EC:
St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
My “reading” received, for which accept my thanks. Regarding the battery mentioned for treatment would you please give me the following information. Is it heavy, or easily moved around. I will undoubtedly be going north later in the season, and would have to take it along with me. Would it be possible to apply that part of the treatment myself, as I have been living alone since my wife’s death. I have been for sometime been using an infra-rad pad to my spine. Would that form of dry heat be as good as the lights you mention?
Trusting for a reply to these questions, and again thanking you, I am
Sincerely [3747]
R3. 4/13/31 EC’s letter to [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]
You could apply the battery yourself, but I do not think it could be easily moved from place to place. We could prepare this for you, if you so desire, and give you instructions as to how to use it. It would cost about $25. You couldn’t move it much, for it is one of those mechanisms that carries liquid - a portion of which is highly acid, in making the charges - and it wouldn’t be safe to move.
As for the dry heat, possibly the pad will answer - though the cabinet can be very easily arranged. You could try the pad with the rest of the treatments and see just how it will work.
Let us know if you wish us to prepare the battery. The full instructions would come with it, and you would have to put the solutions together at your home.
We certainly hope that you will soon be on the improve. Let us hear from you.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R4. 5/4/31 EC’s Secretary to [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]
In Mr. Cayce’s absence your letter of April 30th, with check, has been turned over to me. This is to advise you that the young man is now working on your battery and will send it to you just as soon as he has it prepared.
He tells me to advise you that in the meantime you could prevent some delay by catching a gallon and a half of rain water, in a glass jar - as that will be necessary to charge the battery before using it. If it is impossible for you to obtain the rain water, get laboratory glass distilled water - a gallon and a half.
This battery, with directions [See 5441-1 Reports] for its use, will go forward just as soon as possible.
Thanking you for your order, and hoping you will get the desired results from the use of same - with the other treatments suggested, I am
Sincerely, Secretary to Mr. Cayce
R5. 6/4/31 [3747]‘s letter to EC:
St Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
As it is about time to recharge my battery according to the instructions I received, would you kindly inform me how to proceed. I have faithfully followed treatment, but as it is too early to expect much results yet I am unable to report any progress, in fact I fail to notice any improvement at all. Do you feel any reaction after the Treatment. I tried 45 minutes one night, but did not experience any nausea as you said would result from overuse. I merely tried this to see if it was producing any definite results. Your reply would be appreciated.
Sincerely [3747]
R6. 6/11/31 EC’s letter to Mr. [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]:
Replying to your letter of the 4th, I will have the necessary ingredients prepared for the re-charging of the battery and send to you in the next few days.
From reports from all others, such wonderful results have been obtained, I feel like it would be well if we were to include a check-up on your condition on Monday afternoon, the 22nd, between 3:00 and 5:00 o’clock Eastern Standard Time. I presume you will be at the address stated above during those hours? If there is any change in the address, be sure and notify us in time that we may know just where you will be when this check-up is given. When we get this, then I will be able to offer more suggestions than offhand at the present.
Thanking you for your letter, and trusting to be of a service, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R7. 6/18/31 [3747]‘s letter to EC:
St Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr Cayce:
In reply to your letter of the 11th I wish to say that I will be at the above address on Monday the 22nd, NOT 841 as you had on your letter, if I gave you that number I made a mistake. Shall be pleased to have a check-up of my condition.
R8. 6/23/31 Secretary’s letter to [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]
I am very sorry to tell you that owing to Mr. Cayce’s own illness we were unable to get your check-reading yesterday afternoon. He is some better this morning, but we are busy moving - and will probably be at it all week, so we will write you the first of next week and make another appointment.
Regretting the delay, but hoping you will understand and bear with us, I am
Sincerely, Secretary to Mr. Cayce

Mr. Edgar Cayce Sec, The Assoc of Nat Investigators Inc Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr Cayce:
In reply to your letter of the 24th I wish to inform you that I will be at the above address on March 4th.
I would like the following questions answered please
(1) What was the cause of my present physical breakdown? (2) What treatment would be most beneficial? (3) Will I recover my health sufficiently to enable me to take up my former work?
I shall be most willing to comply with any instructions you may order.
B3. 3/6/31 EC’s letter to Mr. [3747]:
Dear Mr. [3747]:
We did not keep the appointment for your reading, for on the 26th the Trustees who had been conducting the Association - under whose auspices the hospital was opened - deciding to discontinue the work, and it is not longer the Association to whom one would apply for readings. Dr. Birdi can no doubt tell you something about this. If you still desire the reading, let me know. While I have nothing to do with the payment that was made to the Association, I feel that you are looking to me for the information - and if you are, we will make the appointment. If not, I will have to get the officers of the Association to return your money. Please let me know at once.
Sincerely, EC:GD

St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
In reply to your letter of the 6th I wish to say that I still desire the physical reading, as it was for that purpose - on Dr. Birdi’s recommendation that I applied to the Association, to find out the real cause of my present disability, and the best line of treatment to follow. Sorry to learn that it was found necessary to discontinue to [the] work of the Association.
