This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of March, 1928, in accordance with wire request made by her daughter, Mrs. [4376].

Time of Reading 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body, with suggestions for the improvement and relief of the body.

2. EC: Yes - we find conditions have so advanced, only ease may be given for the body; for, as we have seen and had before, these conditions are of the nature that - attacking or using nerve ends and nerve branches from which the condition gains its hold in the body - that is, this character of the condition - these have begun to be more powerful than the resistive forces in the body, and to eat away the vitality - not only by sapping same into the strength of the condition itself, but by drawing on the whole of the body.

3. To apply as is being done through narcotics is only to ease, and yet doesn’t succeed in easing or relieving the body.

4. Were this prepared, we would find greater ease and the ability to gain nearer conscious reaction in the system, without that dread that is ever present through injected narcotics in the system:

5. Prepare in capsules as many as necessary to ease the pain, and only using when necessary to ease the pain:

Eucalyptol…1 minim, Canadian Balsam…1 minim, Oil of Turp…1 minim.

6. These taken inwardly will create a different effect to the condition in the system.

7. Over the affected parts, well were those properties of the dust of carbon sprinkled - for this would hinder the spreading of the condition in face, and would ease the body. Carbon dust - that as accumulates from the positive and negative carbon, as electric lights or lamps are burned. Not those as are of the mercury vapor, but of carbon joined together - the ash from same - will act as an alternative for the bringing together of tissue.

8. Keep those properties in the system as has been given. Not more than three of these in one day - but the liquid in the capsule - take internally. Do that.

9. Ready for questions. (After pause) We are through for this reading at present.

R1. 3/26/28 EC’s letter to the daughter, Mrs. [4376]: “The information gotten in the reading was not as optimistic as I would have liked. I am hoping, however, you will be able to gain such information that will be very helpful at this time. Please be assured that we would like to do something, if possible, to be of help. I realize from my own experience how helpless we feel at such times. Please know that you have our sympathy and a sincere desire to help if possible. Please call on us at any time.”

R2. 11/21/69 GD’s note: From comments by the daughter over the phone it was our understanding that Mrs. [3857]‘s nose or nostril sore, as referred to in 3857-1, had gradually developed to malignancy - her nose and face were being eaten away with cancer. The daughter reported to us through her friend, Mr. [257], that the Ash did retard the progress of the cancer and eased her suffering, but, as the reading indicated, the condition was too far advanced to cure.

This may be the earliest reference to the Carbon or Animated Ash which later was recommended so frequently in malignant cases.

R3. 11/10/77 GD’s note: As a result of 3857-2 recommendation for the Carbon Ash, Mr. Franklin F. Bradley - on the A.N.I. Board of Trustees - volunteered to make the Ash, which he continued to do for many years, to fill the requests for it by those who had it prescribed in the readings, either for local or internal use.
