This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of July, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [409].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find there are those conditions as are abnormal for this body. These have to do with specific conditions as exist in the structural portion of the body. These conditions are produced, as we find, from two causes. One of a long standing, the other the outcome of conditions as have arisen from the disturbances in the structural portion of the system. This condition, as we find, is indicated by the character of the plasm in the red blood cell, as well as in the inability of the white blood leukocyte to form in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of condition as has been produced by the seepage of the physical forces in the bone structure itself. This inability about the blood supply has allowed the bone structure about the clavicle and fibre to form that of a seepage that has brought about enlarging of the bone itself. This, then, is that as produces distress, and creating in the system those conditions as bring the abnormalcies for the body. [GD’s note: Other doctors later called her condition OSTEOCHONDRITIS:PERTHES’ DISEASE.]

2. These conditions, as we find, may be materially aided in the correction of same, were those applications made for the correction of these conditions that will so build in the general physical forces those properties as will meet the needs of the condition and hinder or ward off, or encase those conditions where seepage had occurred from this fracture as has existed, to such an extent as to allow the usage, as well as preventing the inroads and the creating of that condition in the structural portion itself as to create that as will build within itself the deficiency for the normal action of body. These, we would find, would aid materially in the beginning of this condition, for we will find, as conditions change, it will be necessary to meet the changes brought about, to bring the NEAR normal, or the removal of the pain, and the bringing about of that within the system which will allow the usage of the body, of the limb, and thus bring the near normal functioning.

3. Add, then, to the system, those properties as would be found in those of the carbon ash. [See 409-1 Reports, Par. R1—R3.] This taken in this manner. Take the ash one-half dram (that is, dry, or powdered) to one ounce of distilled water, stirred in same sufficient to be drank at a draught. This should be taken at least once each day. We would also add those vibrations of the ultra violet ray direct to the portions as are in distress, across the clavicle, down to the middle portion of the limb or the knee - this upward, see, to body. This should be applied at least twice each week, and least given three minutes first. After five treatments INCREASE to at least five minutes, nearing the body as the condition responds to the internal and external applications. Do that, and we will find we will relieve, and we will assist in bringing this body to near normal.

5. (Q) Will this body be able to walk? (A) Should be able to walk.

6. (Q) Without the aid of crutches? (A) Eventually, without the aid of crutches or cane, though it will show some conditions there, or tendency.

7. (Q) How long will it take before the body will be able to walk? (A) Dependent upon the respondences to the applications as are made. When will it begin the treatment? How will it respond to them? These questions are to be answered in the application of that as given. As is seen, there is necessarily the change in the size, in the length, in the position of the limb. These warded off, these may be overcome by those applications as will aid the body to use same. First we must stop the INROADS of those conditions produced by this seepage. THEN we must create in the system, in the blood supply, that building force that will so build about it such cartilaginous forces as to aid the body in having sufficient strength for the use of same through that limb, see? We are through for the present.

I wish you would advise with Lydic [Dr. Lyman A. Lydic, D.O.] regarding our getting an osteopath to work with us here. That’s the thing we are going to have to have among the first things…” [GD’s note: Dr. Thos. B. House was at the time on a visit to Tenn. to see his sister who was very ill.]

R9. 8/22/29 EC’s ltr. to his wife GC who was on a visit to Ky.: “We have been having quite a set-to with Mrs. [409]. She’s on the improve but her husband hasn’t been coming in to see her as much as she feels he should, and of course feels that it is neglect and that he’s thinking about some other woman - and she has had quite a number of crying weeping and yelling spells. I went out to look for him yesterday and finally got hold of him last night - had a good talk with him - don’t know whether it will do any good or not. Not the best to be mixed up with things of that kind, but it’s all in a life time. I’m hoping we will be able to do her some good, and her husband some good. He seemed to be impressed, though whether he will be affected or not I don’t know.”

R14. 5/8/30 Mrs. [409] left the Cayce Hospital where she had been a resident patient for nine months, a charity case. She returned every other day for treatments. [See especially 409-12 warning of after effects if she did not toe the mark that had been set for her, stating that the hip was now in place but must be kept that way.]

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

This is to say I was taken ill in February, 1929, my doctor diagnosing the case as acute rheumatism. After staying home a month I was sent to a Norfolk hospital, remaining there eight weeks and gradually growing worse. My legs began to swell. My regular physician and three other doctors at the hospital all decided that the rheumatism had drawn my right foot five inches shorter than the other one, causing my spine to be twisted. At the end of eight weeks I was sent back home, having been pronounced incurable. I could not even feed myself, and others had to turn me on the bed.

I was now at home without medical attention. My appetite, however, gradually returned after discontinuing the rheumatism medicine. One day a doctor came to see one of my sisters and my mother asked him to see me. (My foot had drawn five more inches shorter and the back of my knee had begun to come to the front, my knee being badly twisted.) I asked him if he thought I could get up on two crutches whether my foot would not be forced back to normal. He said that I would never be able to walk again, that my spine was too twisted as a result of the rheumatism to ever hope to straighten it.

Then I cried and thought to myself that surely there was somebody in this world who knew more about it and who could tell me something to make me well again. Then we heard of Mr. Cayce through a painter who came to our house. This man had been doing some work for Mr. Cayce, and though he had never had a reading, he told me in his own way how Mr. Cayce gave readings. My mother went to see Mr. Cayce and he told her that he did not know if he could help or not, but that he would try. He gave a reading on July 19, 1929, which said that I had a fractured and dislocated hip, caused from an injury of long standing received from a fall. The reading brought to my mind a fall I had had four years before.

After obtaining the reading I was taken on a stretcher to the Cayce Hospital on July 31st, 1929, in order to get all the treatments. After taking these for three months I was able to walk with the aid of a crutch and cane, my foot stretched a little each day until I was able to touch the floor. Then I changed to two canes and after a few months walked with only one. In May, 1930, I was able to leave the Hospital and to walk without aid.

I walked from May until the first of November, when a reading advised me to go to Richmond for a surgical operation, as this type of operation was not performed at the Cayce Hospital. The reason given for this was that I had used my limb too much, which had caused excessive irritation in the hip, and that only an operation would relieve the condition [409-15]. I had been warned of this before leaving the Hospital [409-12]. I was in Richmond for about three months, being in a cast eight weeks. I weighed one hundred and twenty pounds when I went and only ninety pounds when I returned home. I stayed at home from the latter part of January until April, 1931, when I resumed the treatments suggested by Mr. Cayce [409-18]. I now weight one hundred and twenty three pounds and I feel well and happy in every respect.

All during this time I have had check readings on an average of once a month, and have been guided by them absolutely, from the beginning. My last check reading informed me that I would become proud of myself in time, which I certainly am! [409-23]

My limb and hip are now practically normal and I suffer no pain whatsoever. I feel that I owe my life to the work of Mr. Edgar Cayce, and all that I can ever say will express only in a small measure my deep appreciation and thankfulness that I was privileged to contact him in this time of dire need, for he showed me the way when all human agencies had apparently failed. I feel that this is a God-given gift worthy of consideration, and those who will follow his suggestions as I have followed them will reap the same wonderful results.
