This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of December, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [409].

Time of Reading 2112 Northside Hospital, 3:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Richmond, Virginia. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [409] - this we have had before. Changes are seen in the conditions since last we had same. Some indications are better, some not so well. Irritations from infectious forces as respecting the conditions in the hip, the general condition through the blood supply - as well as the forces or sources through the mental attitude of body - make for the accentuation of the disorders.

2. We would use or give that as has been outlined, to release more oxygen - which would cut down or relieve the temperature for the body.

3. We would increase the eliminations so far as the whole general system, and not just for the alimentary canal, and keep up the courage, and make for as pleasant surroundings for the body as possible. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Would it harm the body to come to the Cayce Hospital? (A) It couldn’t! because it couldn’t be moved at present, or not BEST to be!

5. (Q) Is body failing because of being away from home? (A) This adds TO the irritation - the surroundings. Medicated ash, with the ultra violet, would be the most beneficial, as we find, for a STIMULI in the general system.

6. That is all the questions regarding this body.

R1. 12/23/30 Letter to Mrs. [409] from EC: “You possibly have been expecting a letter from me for some time. Please don’t think that I have been purposely negligent in answering you, With the changes that have come with the hospital, and with someone else being the spokesman for what is to be done, it makes it necessary that I get word from others before I can say just what I would like to do. You know that from the beginning I have been very anxious that you get all the treatments suggested. I have believed in the information, as no doubt you have. I gave your letter to Dr. Taylor, [Dr. Job Taylor, Ph.D., philosophy professor at Atlantic University, who attempted to be the mediator in the Cayce Hospital situation] who is the financial director of the hospital. I suppose he has taken the matter up with Mr. Blumenthal - who owns the place. They have not as yet condescended to even make a reply, and I felt that you should have SOME answer before this.

“I have been trying very hard to make some sort of connections whereby we can get the medicated ash for you. So far we have been unable to do anything regarding this, save the very small quantity I am sending - which constitutes every particle that we have. You should have this made out in the one-eighth grains and not take more than two doses during a day, and at least have one of the ultra violet light treatments thirty to forty minutes after you have taken a dose. I believe you will find wonderful results from this.

“We hope you will soon be able to return home. I am yet unable to say whether they will be willing for you to come to the hospital or not. I hope by the time you do come home that we will be able to give you some answer in this direction.

“I am sure you have gone through a great deal of suffering, but I hope it hasn’t been for nothing, and that soon you will be feeling as well or better than you did before you went there.

R2. GD’s note: No wonder they did not consider re-entering Mrs. [409], who had rec’d free room and board and treatments, and readings, for nine months, then continued free out-patient treatments since leaving the Cayce Hospital. I am wondering if the Cayce Hospital did not also arrange for her to receive free treatment, surgery, etc. at the 2112 Northside Hospital in Richmond.

R3. 12/30/30 EC’s letter to Mr. F. F. Bradley, 2626 So. Dearborn St., Chicago, Ill. “It has been a long time since I have seen you, or heard anything from you direct. Many are the changes that have taken place, and that are taking place, with all of us. Most of them that have affected the Association and its work I am sure you know about.

“In conversation with [257] on the phone, he advised me that he thought you were going to be able to supply us with the carbon ash until some arrangements could be made to handle the proposition. I’m writing to ask about this, as we have quite a number of people who are waiting anxiously for a supply in order to start with their treatment. Some have already used it and found it most beneficial. We have had requests from physicians - one in New York who treated [257]‘s mother. Possibly he told you of his mother’s illness about a year ago, when the ash was suggested for her in a reading and she steadily improved when taking it, after the physicians had given her only about two weeks to live. [See 325 series.] We also have two who were patients at the hospital, and are now trying to follow their treatment at home. The ash is almost exhausted, and they are afraid of losing ground. One of these is Mrs. [409], who was the star patient - though on the free list. The ash worked wonders with her, in a condition where the bone itself was involved. [The other is Miss [275] who was a Cayce Hospital patient, with a condition similar to Mrs. [409]‘s.] Now we have a request from California, from a person for whom the reading advised the ash. The physician who has charge of this case is the one who first presented the phenomena to the scientific world. [Mrs. [757] who was referred by Dr. Wesley H. Ketchum, M.D.] I merely mention these to indicate how very anxious I am to be able to obtain this ingredient if possible. I realize it has been heretofore altogether an expense to you, but I feel - if it is not too great an expense - we can at least charge sufficient for the ash to enable us to meet the needs of supplying it. Or do you think such is possible? I would appreciate it if you would let me hear from you in regard to this, and if it is possible to procure the ash just how soon I might expect some of it - that I might acquaint those continually asking for it just when they may expect it.

R5. 2/1/31 Mr. Franklin F. Bradley’s letter to EC and HLC:

[on Bradley-Hurtz Co., 2620-28 South Dearborn St., Chicago stationery - lacquers, enamels, paints, varnishes] “Regarding Carbon Ash. I do not like to use the word ‘medicated’. ‘Activated’ is probably the word to use, altho I have not yet had time to study the degree of activation as I hope to. And without doubt the vitality of the ash lies in that and not in medication. Please let me have your reaction on that. I have made shipment to [Mr. [4791] and Mrs. [264].

“Wish time were not so limited, must close.

“Very best regards to you both…”

R6. 2/10/31 EC’s letter to Mr. Bradley: “Regarding the ash, I am rather inclined to think ‘Activated’ is really a better name than ‘Medicated’, though the readings have termed it ‘Medicated’ several times. Will you please send some ash to me direct, a double quantity? This is for the little Mrs. [409] who was in the hospital for such a long time. She received so much benefit there, and was eventually dismissed because they didn’t see fit to carry on. I will take care of the price of this myself. She is not able to (although her husband is a bootlegger).”

R7. GD’s note: It occurs to me that Mrs. [409] must have been mistreated by EC in his former incarnation as the “ne-er do-well” John Bainbridge, which would account for his urge to give and give and give to her without hope of return. There were quite a few in this category, it seems.

R10. 12/2/31 EC’s ltr. under 2519-7 tells how Mrs. [409] looks so well, walks into Miss Annie Cayce’s nursing home for treatments, using a cane, limping a little. “There is only a very small discharge from the incision that was made to remove the shattered portion. I’m sure it is going to heal in the next few months so that she will be almost normal, anyway.”

R12. 3/15/32 EC’s ltr. to Mr. Bradley: “I have understood that Mrs. [409] has ordered the Ash several times and has had no reply.”

R13. 3/19/32 Mr. B’s reply: “As far as I know every order has

been filled with reasonable promptness by my son [B. H. Bradley]… She has paid for some of what she rec’d and the boy has sent her additional without charge. I will have him send you a supply without charge which you can give her or anyone else you may desire.”
