This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of December, 1932, in accordance with request made by her mother, Mrs. [778], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are manifested in the personality of the entity now known as [398]. (In undertone) What an unusual manner it’s presented!

2. In entering from the astrological and astronomical viewpoint, as we find, these would at some periods be very much in line with that ordinarily attributed to such - in SOME ways of judging same; while others are in almost opposition to that ordinarily adjudged as the astrological influence.

3. As we find from the sojourn in varied astrological environment, then, the entity has (or will show) some definite trends or tends in personality and individuality.

4. An UNUSUAL development in some directions, PROVIDED, to be sure, that through the formative years there is given that impetus or impulse for the development of the mental in the directions that will make for the impulse to be carried in that line which would make for greater developments.

5. Coming under the influence of Neptune then, as we find, makes for the mystic forces in the experience of the entity; as liking and loving a mystery (which may be seen even in the development in the tender years); liking to make a mystery of that it finds it is, or those that it would meet, in soft whispers, in creeping about, in finding those varied things that would make for such tendencies - these are quite evident in the present development. To be sure, this gives that indication that there will be that within the experience of the entity in the present, (as the air of mystic influences and the attraction for same) which may be enhanced or entirely eliminated by the trend of the development. As may be well understood (and will become gradually more and more understood by the mental-mind of man), the developing of the mental attributes of the human family will grow more and more to represent the whole period of transition, in the way of developing the human race or family through that known as the form, not of biological but of sociological conditions in the evolution of man in each experience. So, one that has encompassed or covered the greater period in the developing of the individual entity or soul would be called the old, or the more highly evolved, or greater developed soul. This one will be unusual!

6. In the approaching of both Jupiter and Venus in their conjunction with the attributes of the triad, or the angle at which same comes to Uranus through the birth period of the entity, [398], we are speaking of, as called in this experience, we find these not as the INFLUENCING in the experience of the entity, but as the relationships of those sojourns or planetary influences upon the dwellers upon the earth during this particular period they INFLUENCE the life of the entity BY their contributing to the impelling influences in the entity’s experience; hence a wide grasp of ideas will be, as it were, NATURAL to the developing body. The precaution should be that this is not allowed to go to too great extremes in the FORMATIVE years, but that it should be kept in as near normal balance as possible for developing minds of its years, of its age, of its environs, else there may be the higher MENTAL development so fast as to become destructive or detrimental to the physical-mental body.

7. The attributes in the directions of the love of beauty, of music, of art, of EXTREMES, will be the fortes - or those tendencies from such influences in the experience of the entity.

8. As to whether these are to take on those that are of the constructive or the creative nature (which are in their essence of the spiritual development), will depend upon the direction in which those that are to train the ideas and ideals of the entity through the formative years direct same - see? as to whether the ideal is to be set in beauty, in art of music that has its inception from the emotions of the body that are constructive, or whether they are constructive only to the emotions of the body that exercise the influence upon the carnal forces, or whether they are influenced by those that are of the creative forces or spiritual elements within the body. The same in music, the same in art, the same in relationship to the expressing or manifesting of same; whether in art, in song, in acting, in the intentions that arise from those that are so apparent of making the mystery of every act that the body would make in the present.

9. So, with the directing through the period, know that these conditions arise from those influences that make for a STRONG, WELL, HEALTHY physical body, and that the attributes are such that these may be led in that which becomes excessive in the forces of the mental only, or the spiritual-mental, or the carnal forces. As to these, those that direct must choose; hence the responsibility that comes upon those that would guide or direct.

10. With the tendencies in those influences from the sojourns (as we will see), there comes those tendencies also wherein, unless these are developed into those channels where they come from the spiritual or the creative forces of the developing influences for the entity, not to be deceitful so much - but rather as one with the ability to TWEEDLE (as might be said) this, that or the other out of whatever source or channel it would try or attempt to do; and what is the life of a tweedler?

11. As to the appearances, then, and their influence upon the present entity:

12. In the one before this we find in that period when there were the wars and the struggles between the common people and those known as the royalty, in France. The entity then was among the common people that aided in the raising up of those influences that set many against the aggressiveness as felt from those in power, or affluence, and in the name Arney. The entity gained and lost; being considered, though, among the radical of the radicals; for the entity aided in giving much aid to those that stirred up the peoples, and in exercising such influences in every manner that would fire the imagination - as to the physical, the material, and the desires for freedom from those oppressions that were felt as hindrances to the progress of the common peoples; hence those tendencies (that may be seen in the present) to be oft the dictatorial little body, as its development comes, and at other periods those developments wherein there is the tendency towards the plain things, or those that make for a democratic activity in its associations with others, its desires for associations and for groups, yet at times holding self aloof all of a sudden from same.

13. In the one before this we find in that period, in the land known as the city of the hills, when there was the spreading of those new lessons and truths that were coming up from the strange peoples in the land of Palestine. The entity was then among those peoples that supplied the entertainments to the royalty, in the name Carthway. In this experience, in this place, MANY were the activities of the entity. As the new lessons came, many changes came in the activities; for the needs and requirements for the supplying of entertainments changed, yet the ENTITY attempted to appeal more to the developing or younger minds during this progress, accepting much that was taught of the new cult or peoples and then becoming a great entertainer through being among the first women to fight with beasts in the arena.

14. It will be in the present quite a study to watch the development of the mind of this entity, in its reaction to the wild animals; especially, without being told, watch the reaction when first a lion or a striped tiger may be seen.

15. The entity developed in this experience, suffering in body and mind; yet the ability to control self, to control others, was developed through this experience.

16. How necessary that the manner in which this ability is to be directed in the present experience be in those channels which become constructive and creative in their essence and elements!

17. In the one before this we find in that land, that period when there were divisions and uprisings in the land known as the Egyptian, during those periods when there were the developments and return of the priest that had been banished.

18. With the developing of the temple worship, and as the altars in the Temple Beautiful were raised up for the disseminating of those truths which made for the physical awakening, the physical attributes that were elements through the spiritual forces that were manifest in those beings, with the casting off of those influences in the period, the entity - in the name Apt-hel - gained much; being of those peoples that came or returned with the priest, and was raised to the power in the latter portion of that period of development. Then, the entity came to be one that made the first music in the temple through horns, pipes and stringed instruments COMBINED. (Be careful that the entity doesn’t attempt to become an orchestra leader.)

19. In this period the entity developed those abilities to spiritualize the material acts, to materialize the spiritual influences; which makes for the greater depth of the mental forces and mental attributes of the entity in the present.

20. In the one before this we find in that land known as the Atlantean, and in the little city of Osuo the entity ruled as the priestess over those divinations that brought for the influencing of the emotions of the body, as those developments came to those peoples during the earlier portion of their sojourn in this land. The entity, in the name Lylthean, lost in this experience; for much that was used was for self’s own aggrandizing to the desires builded in the carnal influences of the entity.

21. Then, as to the warnings and as to the abilities of the entity:

22. The abilities lie in many directions, dependent upon the manner in which the DEVELOPMENTS are allowed to make their progress; as to whether these are given those ideals that are constructive or that answer only for the glorifying in the material forces of life.

23. Keep the direct force for the developing of the spiritual insight.

24. As will be seen from the variations in the influence, these should hang more and more to the east and west coasts of this present sojourn; for THESE are the developing periods of the entity.

R1. 12/17/32 Mother, [778]‘s letter:

Box …, Ga.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

The reading for [398] arrived yesterday. It is really wonderful. I told you she was a little Egyptian! I believe I also told you in my last letter that her birth-chart betrays musical and acting ability. Your reading has clearly confirmed these indications. I am at a loss to understand why the various readings which I have seen and which you have done for members of my family or friends, have all stated that astrological indications for the entity are not wholly dependable. So far, your readings (those which I have read) have coincided very accurately with the horoscopes of various persons, and certainly have not contained anything contrary to astrological indications. I am very much puzzled on this point.

It would seem from [398]‘s reading that she also was one of those Egyptians who cast in her lot with the exiled priest. It appears she was a contemporary of mine in three of her lives, in France, Rome and Egypt. I am lost in awe and admiration at your miraculous power of interior penetration which enables you to trace these ancient lives and karmic links between individuals.

As remarked in your reading, she is a brave little soul. Several months ago, when she was only two years old, she burned her arm severely on a red-hot stove, and did not even cry. To one who has faced wild beasts in the arena for the entertainment of those ferocious old Romans, a burn must indeed be a minor pain! [12/21/32 See Life Reading for [398]‘s father, Mr. [1932]].

I am more than grateful for the invaluable suggestions you have given for her training. I realize well that no child is a “possession” of her parents, but is merely under their temporary and mundane protection and influence, at all times subservient to the greater protection and influence of the divine powers who guide her destiny. The desire for possession is the beginning of all pain, and the root of illusion.

One point in her reading is puzzling - why, in her Roman incarnation, should she have had an English name like Carthway? Later on, when finances improve, I expect to ask for Check Life Readings for [398] and myself, but I would not for a moment consider imposing on your kindness for these favors at the present time and under the present circumstances. I have the greatest respect for your gifts, and have in the past resented the requests of certain people that you put your powers to use for the solution of their trivial and insignificant problems. It’s too much like casting pearls before swine…

Would it be useful to you if I sent a list of friends to whom you could send your free literature, as I think some of them would want Life Readings?

R2. 8/22/33 Mother’s note:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I am putting this on a separate sheet, so that you can burn it when you are thru reading it. First I thought I wouldn’t bother you about it; then I thought I ought to see what hope there is.

This is the situation: my daughter’s [398]‘s chart does not promise a long life. There is even some danger of death in early childhood. She was three on June 28th of this year. She is under especially ominous aspects next month, or September.

Would you be so kind as to have a reading on her, with the object of finding out whether I may hope that she will live to adulthood or not? Naturally the thought weighs on my mind; I think the uncertainty is worse than anything. I cannot think of anyone, in mortal form at least, who could help me but you. I really would rather know the worst, if worst there be. On the other hand, I may be entirely mistaken.

R5. GD’s note: [in re 398-1, Par. 21] 6/34 Her mother, [778], visited A.R.E. She had a letter from her husband, [1932], saying that [398] had been crying for [778]. He couldn’t get her to stop and go to sleep until he told her, “Your mother is in jail!” This stopped her crying immediately and she went to sleep, apparently realizing there was no hope and she’d have to make the best of it.
