This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [4001], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes. As we find, there has arisen rather an acute condition in the general physical forces. While not so acute as to cause gallstone colic as yet, there are the disturbances in the gall bladder area and the liver. These have hindered the coordinations between the eliminating systems. Thus there has been a great deal of poison thrown into the system. This is experienced in the more definite manner as to the infection and irritation in the lids and from the lachrymal ducts. These are causing a great deal of pain to eyes, eyelids, as well in the extremities; the forearm, the elbow and shoulder, the hip, the knee and the feet. All of these at times have shown indications of the sources of disturbance, but these in the face have become rather acute.

3. First we would begin applying hot Castor Oil Packs over the liver and gall duct area, at least three thicknesses of flannel, (old flannel preferably) saturated with the Castor Oil. Apply over the liver, the gall duct, and extend to the caecum area on the right side. Cover with cloths to prevent soiling linens and then apply an electric pad. Do this for one hour each day for five days in succession.

4. Then take internally two tablespoonsful of Olive Oil.

5. Follow this the next day with a high enema, or more preferably a colonic irrigation.

6. For the face condition begin at once to apply a scraped Irish potato poultice directly over the lids of the eyes, with gauze over same. After this has been on for thirty minutes, take off and cleanse the area with a purifying solution such as Glyco-Thymoline or the like. Use about three teaspoonsful of Glyco-Thymoline and one teaspoonful of water as the solution for such an eyewash.

7. After three to four hours, apply again, to draw the inflammation from these areas - through the five days that the Castor Oil Packs are used. Use the potato poultice about every four hours during this period, though, of course, not at night.

8. After the series of Oil Packs, do have at least six to eight good osteopathic treatments to set up better eliminations.

9. Do these and we will make for better conditions and rid these disturbances from the body.

11. (Q) Is the taking of one grain thyroid tablets each day necessary and should it be continued? (A) We would leave these off through these periods. When there have been the better corrections we find that the addition of KalDak taken in periods would be helpful; that is, about four times each week, at regular periods, taking a heaping teaspoonful of KalDak dissolved first in a little water and then the glass filled with orange juice. This is the preferable manner of taking same for this body, but do not begin this until after the other treatments have been followed.

12. (Q) Do any of my teeth need extraction, indicate which ones? (A) As we find there are those needing local attention; not necessarily extraction if there is the use of the orange juice, provided these are kept very clean. Use an equal combination of baking soda and table salt as a gum massage, as well as any good dentifrice. Ipana is good.

R1. 4/15/44 [4001]‘s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

The treatments were begun the very day we received the reading and were followed according to the instructions with amazing results. Amazing to me, that is, because after the very first day I felt a noticeable improvement which continued up to the present time.

The suggestion regarding the KalDak will be taken just as soon as I can get the stuff. I called the druggist at once and asked him to order it but have not yet received it. There is a question I would like to ask regarding it. Will you please interpret the meaning for me in regard to this. I asked if the continued use of Thyroid was necessary or not. The suggestion was given regarding the substitution of KalDak. Do you suppose it is meant for me to use the KalDak continuously instead of the Thyroid, or am I to use both? Please re-read the instructions and give me your opinion as to the meaning. I want to carry out the intention to the letter.

Regarding the osteopathic treatments, there is no one near who can give them now, but when my daughter returns…in two weeks…she will take me to Greenville where there is an osteopath and I will have them. We will not be able to go over there more than once a week as she is working here in the County Health Office and can not get away except on Saturday afternoon.

Dear Mrs. [4001]:

Thanks very much for yours of the 15th.

I am glad indeed to know that you have been getting wonderful results from the use of the suggestions made in your reading.

Now, regarding KalDak. I am sure they must have given you the name of the manufacturing company. I believe you will be likely to get it quicker if you order it direct. If you haven’t received it, let us send it to you from here, as they have sent us a small supply so that we can send a limited amount to individuals who wish to try it. Regarding the substitute of the KalDak for the thyroid, I believe this is satisfactory. With the thyroid you would have to continue to use it. If you use the Kaldak, it should enable your system to build within it that that is necessary to cause the thyroid to create within itself, for you know your body should be able to replenish itself from day to day. If we are in the right way, the body makes itself over and over, for there is the ability in every organ for it to re-build or remake itself.

I am sure it would be very nice and very good if you can arrange to get some of the osteopathic treatments once a week, if that is as much as you can now. I am sure the doctor will give you enough during one period to take care of it. Of course it is possible to give too much, but if your osteopath knows his business, he will know just what to do.

Regarding the appointment for the life and mental and spiritual readings, I don’t find it on our list in the month of June. You doubtless have a record of the date that was given you. Please look this up for me and it will be much easier for you to let me know than to try to go through this whole year. Remember our appointments are a year in advance.

You should know Mrs. [4001], from your experience [as a masseuse], whether or not your osteopath is giving you just what he should be. I believe if you will use olive oil and peanut oil combined, in giving the massage for the little girl who has had paralysis, you will get much quicker and better results. Don’t let that take place of the massage, but let that contribute to the results that you will be able to get from the massage. The body will soak this up; rub it into the body. This is food for the nerves and muscles of the limbs themselves.

R3. 6/2/44 [4001]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Mr. Cayce:

Yesterday I had my eighth osteopathic treatment from Doctor Annie T. Abolt, Osteopathic Physician of Greenville, Mississippi, according to the instructions given in my Physical Reading. The results have been most satisfactory. I feel like a new person. I am still taking the KalDak and will keep it up for a while yet. You will never know how grateful I am to you for your help. Dr. Abolt said that she would write to you too. I took my book “THERE IS A RIVER” over for her to read and she was very much impressed with it as she is an intelligent and understanding soul.

The dates you have allotted me for the Life Reading in your letter to me of Nov. 20th, ‘43, were June 28th, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for the Life Reading, and June 29th, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., EWT. for the Mental and Spiritual Reading. That would be 2:30 to 3:30 each afternoon on our time here. We are on war time too.

The 20.00 for the Life Reading has already been sent you, so I am enclosing in this letter the 20.00 for the Mental and Spiritual Reading. I think you will find this correct.

Questions for the Life Reading have been sent to you… I do not remember now what hey were, but no questions were sent for the M & S Reading as I did not understand exactly what type questions would be in order. Can you enlighten me on this?

The little girl I wrote you about that I had been massaging shows a marked improvement. I can not get peanut oil here so I am forced to use the olive oil. I know the peanut oil is better, I have used it.

Dr. Abolt made some adjustments for the child and helped her a great deal. She advised the massages be kept up.

Also enclosed is a little pamphlet marked for preference for the free booklets.

The weekly sheet of excerpts from readings is received regularly and promptly and I do enjoy it very much. Have found many good suggestions, and sound advice.

Please instruct me if there is anything further you would have me do in regard to the approaching readings. My address is the same, I will hold myself in prayerful quiet during the set time, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., CWT June 28th and June 29th 1944.

Were you able to follow the advice given in your Physical reading? If so, just what results were obtained? Chief Complaint: The thing I wrote about was a sort of flare up in my eyes.

Date of Onset: I can not remember.

Duration: It began to subside before I received the reply.

Reoccurrence: No.

Intensity: I thought it was bad enough at the time to write about it.

Physician’s Diagnosis and Treatment: Had none that I can remember.

Reading’s Recommendations: As I remember not much was said about my eyes except for the potato poultices, and as the condition was passing before I received the reading I did not do anything about that. But the cause of the eye condition was deeper and the treatment for that was followed carefully

• castor oil packs, and some sort of vitamin compound - like Kalack [KalDak], which I had a time trying to get, and finally did and took for about a year. My daughter - who is a nurse -was living with me at the time and she gave me the castor oil packs. They were wonderful.

It was an osteopathic physician in Greenville Mississippi. She is no longer there.

Q. Please give technical name of ailment. (This is needed for indexing and compilation of similar cases.) A. I don’t know. None was given me. I just can’t remember about it. Only this, I have not had to consult any doctor since except that I had a complete physical check-up about a year ago, and was told there was nothing organic wrong, all I needed was to lose weight, which I proceeded to do. Frankly, the physical reading was not the important contact to me - though at the time I thought it was.

I do feel that the advice given me at the time was needed and was necessary to prevent something else. I was and am perfectly satisfied with what I received. [See 5/9/51 Letter under 4001-2 Reports.]

Mrs. [4001] …, Miss.

Dear Mrs. [4001]:

I have yours of the first, enclosing membership blank and request for three types of readings. We are making the appointment for the physical reading for the morning of March 28, 10:30 to 11:30 EWT. which would be 9:30 to 10:30 your time. A few days before the time of the reading, if you wish to accept this period, be sure to let us hear from you, as to just where you will be at the hour. Also make a list of questions that you would like to have asked regarding conditions that you feel are troubling you. These are asked after the reading is given, to be sure to clarify whatever may be troubling you.

Regarding the life reading and the mental and spiritual reading, each of these would be $20.00 each. We are very, very far in advance with this type of reading and would not be able to get them. The life reading will be June 28, 3:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon. It is necessary that we have this data for your life reading - the full name given at birth, date of birth, hour of birth, if possible, and place of birth. The mental and spiritual reading we have to know where you are and make out the questions for this just as you would for the life reading and your physical reading. The date we can give you for that is the afternoon of June 29, 3:30 to 4:30 EWT. Please let me hear whether you wish us to reserve these periods or not.

As for Dr. […] we do not make charges for a minister. They do have to become a member or sign one of the blanks, but if they are averse, or think this is the work of the devil, for mercy’s sake, please don’t try to persuade them to have the reading. We have many, many ministers of every denomination, including Catholic priests. If you read the book, you know this. All people, I understand, are not ready to accept that God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He will speak to you if you want Him to.

B2. 3/21/44 Letter: “An emergency has arisen [Please take physical reading first]… Last Friday afternoon an acute condition in my left eye developed which has since spread to both eyes. My regular doctor prescribed an ointment and some internal medicine, the condition is somewhat relieved but I felt that the CAUSE should be determined to prevent further trouble.”

Please explain condition in eyes; cause and remedy? Is the taking of 1 gr. thyroid tablets each day necessary and should it be continued? (This was prescribed by Dr. several years ago after a metabolic test) Do any of my teeth need extraction, indicate which ones? Please examine condition in knees and feet. Can anything be done to help it? Can you give me an outline to follow to keep my body in good health, and tell me what particular things I am doing that are against my good health? In the mornings I awake with a feeling of tension in arms and legs sometimes aching, can this be helped?
