This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [4046], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Edgar Cayce.

Born June 2, 1911, in the town of Varick, near Geneva, New York. Time of Reading 11:30 to 12:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, or giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [4046].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, there is much from which to choose. There are some warnings, there are those conditions of virtues, those conditions that may become vices in the experience of the entity.

4. While we would magnify the virtues, we would minimize the faults; not that those warnings would not be included in that which might be indicated to make the experience for the entity a helpful one.

5. For to give merely the latent and manifested urges, or to give associations and as to how and why there are certain experiences as a part of the entity’s activity might accomplish little unless there is also given that which if applied in the life would bring a better interpretation or a better understanding. This information is given that it may be helpful.

6. For what source, then, comes help? All the help an individual entity or soul may attain or gain in any experiences, is that which brings to the physical, mental and spiritual consciousness of the entity the awareness of Creative Forces or God. For, as the entity may experience, the very fact, the very consciousness that the entity has a body, a mind, a soul, or a body and a mind and a hope for the soul, should be self-evident in itself that the First Cause - no matter by what it may be termed - is mindful of thee as an individual entity, and has need of thee, and that thou hast a duty, an opportunity, a job to perform.

7. Then to do that, keeping in touch with and knowing the law, the urge, the rule by which such work, such duty, such love is to be accomplished, may bring - if there is thought taken - the awareness of harmony, or being at variance, or of judgments on self or others as to duties to be performed.

8. As to the urges latent and manifested, we find Aries - or mind. These are at times at variance with the conditions; that is, Venus and Mercury are at variance one with another. Then the entity finds at times that it is aware of conditions and yet would hide them; not with the idea of deceiving anyone but rather as of a faulty condition and that “What you don’t know won’t hurt you.” It hurts you just the same! For while we may not be aware in the physical consciousness, the self-consciousness, or soul consciousness is ever present. For remember, the first principles - the Lord thy God is one.

9. Here a warning would be given. Not that there is to become a continual parading in the experience of the thoughts or feelings, or happenings or mishaps, but don’t cover up self or others. For as has been written, so live thy own life that ye may constrain others. And so live that life that he who runs may read. Be not ashamed of whatever may come about. For know that whatever the experience is, it is that experience necessary in order that ye may make a better channel in self as a manifestation of that opportunity in God’s giving a promise to thee.

10. In Jupiter we find the latent urge to help, and yet that latent urge to be universal in its concepts.

11. We find also the urge in Neptune to be associated with those things, people, places having to do with water. Water is the mother of materiality. Don’t let materiality and material things, then, be put first and foremost in thy experience. That is the next warning. Don’t let material things supplant spiritual things, but know that the material things should be a result of entertaining the spiritual forces, the creative energies and activities, and the mental application should be to coordinate and cooperate with the efforts of spiritual purposes and ideals to bring material results in the experience of the entity.

12. As to the appearances in the earth, we find these quite varied and quite far apart. Consequently, we find latent urges; that is, the the entity thinks deep, long and yet apparently is rather inclined to be just on the surface - yet the hurt goes deeper and deeper at times.

13. For in the experience before this the entity was in the French land, where the entity was among that group of sisters who were with the Louises.

14. The entity didn’t like much the activities or the association of the sisters, for the entity then was matter of fact, yes - but ruled rather by the principles being set by the church, and to the entity one must hew to the line, the letter of the law without too much spirit.

15. Thus condemnations came in a part of the entity’s experience, condemnation even of those of its own associates. Such must be eliminated. For thy associations in the present will bring thee in the activities, as thy have, with they companion in the present - yea, some of thy associates that will be and that are in the immediate a part of thy associations. Ye condemned them for their activities, that to the self were in direct disobedience to the law. But one who is weak in the flesh is his or her error greater - or that one should know that condemning of others is already condemning self? Which is the greater sin? For as the Master gave, it is the greater sin to look on a woman or man to lust after such than to perform the act itself that may be forgiven, that may supply those experiences that will bring an outpouring of creation in mind, in body, from a spiritual purpose.

16. The entity then was known as Sister Celecia. The entity gained, the entity questioned, the entity finds itself confused in the present.

17. Before that the entity was in the Grecian land when those groups of people chose to enter the Arabian and Persian land. The entity was among the Grecians - beautiful in body, beautiful in ideal, and yet was persuaded to be used as a pawn.

18. Yet coming in contact with and under the influence of the teachings in ‘the city in the hills and the plains,’ the entity became a helper to those in the teaching and the applying of those tenets among the people that gradually settled about the activities in the ‘city in the hills.’

19. The entity then became the keeper of the records. Thus in the present as a secretary, as a statistician, as a datastician pertaining to things of a universal, helpful nature, the entity may apply itself again in the material things of life. These are the channels especially, for the material activities.

20. The name them, after the change in the ‘city in the hills and the plains’ was Lila. Before that it was known as Lulu - and was a Lulu, too! according to the proverbial activity indicated from the name.

21. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, among those of Atlantis, and was one closely associated with the turmoils which arose in those periods of disturbing forces during the banishment of the Priest.

22. The entity and the helpers in that period were loud in their activities against the King, but with the final settlements brought about, the entity became a helper to those of her own people in that experience.

23. The name then was Jeanellen-Nettla. The entity gained much, for its contribution to the helpful experience of the peoples, with the tenets set in order, brought helpful forces to many.

24. These are not all of the appearances, but these indicate to the entity the type or the phase of anxieties, disturbances that will arise in the experience of the entity.

25. As to the abilities in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

26. Don’t become too serious with self. Don’t - don’t - leave off those warnings.

27. Do add to thy virtues, patience, love, gentleness, kindness. For these will, indeed, bear fruit.

28. Study to show thyself approved, in body, in mind, in purpose.

29. Don’t cover up. Don’t become so open as to be considered one brazen in regard to the troubles or activities, but in patience, in love, in brotherly kindness, in brotherly love, ye will find harmony that will make the daily experience worthwhile.

30. Ready for questions.

31. (Q) What have been my past associations with my present husband, […] and how may I best help him in the present? (A) As indicated, in the experience before this - the activities wherein there were beliefs, disbeliefs, and confusion. Ye have a duty to perform to each. Do give the opportunity. And if and when, and wherever there is the rejection from the spiritual, as has been given, let thy life be as if he did not exist.

32. (Q) Does he really need me; if so, just how may I best supply that need? (A) He really needs the body. Really needs the judgment, really needs the spiritual ideals of the entity; and as given, in patience, in persistence, in love, in gentleness, in kindness hold to, until there is either the regeneration of the entity or the rejection entirely.

33. (Q) If he is sent overseas, or elsewhere, would it be best for me to remain in this area and in my present work, or return to my home in …, New York? (A) In this area, in the present work, for you are closely associated with your own sister [288], that you had quite a job with, and with your own friend [1523], whom you didn’t get along with!

34. (Q) What is the spiritual source of the glandular condition manifested in my physical body, and just how should it be met? (A) The experiences before this with the turmoils wrought by the questionings, as to associations and activities, brought about what now manifests as the glandular disturbance with the relationships having to do with the activities of the creative forces in the body. There needs to be a physical adjustment made in the area of the sacral and lumbar axis; using the douches varying between the Atomidine and Glyco-Thymoline at varied periods - this is speaking physically.

35. (Q) What have been my past associations with [288] and what are the urges in the present that may be used for our mutual benefit? (A) As just indicated, a sister in the experience before this in France, and a friend and companion in the ‘City in the hills and plains.’

36. (Q) Is it indicated that I ever would, or should, have a child? (A) That depends upon the associations, purposes and ideals. Remember those things given concerning such in the lives of individuals through these channels.

Do be patient, do be longsuffering, do keep that attitude of love, of gentleness, of kindness; that has stood and will ever stand thee in stead.

The Lord bless thee, the Lord keep thee and cause His face to shine upon thee and bring thee peace.

Some years have passed since you received a Life Reading from Edgar Cayce. No doubt much has transpired in that interval for you - we assure you it has for us. As you probably know, Edgar Cayce passed on from this plane in January 1945. Since then, because of the readings and because of the eternal good that was Edgar Cayce’s life, we are impelled to carry on certain phases of this work. No small influence in this regard are the mounting requests with which we have been literally besieged from those who did not receive personal readings and who have heard or read about Edgar Cayce and his work.

We are positive that a law of universal validity lies behind the Life Readings and one of our projects is to be able to state that law in terms so simple and so complete that on one

R4. 1/18/51 Answer to Questionnaire [See Par. R3 above]:

1. No. It was borrowed and not returned.

2. Many times (but not enough).

5. Not in several years. (6)

6. I felt that my life Reading was (true). Namely, the Reading seemed to bear on condemnation of others and material things. Not enough Spiritual thinking. I must have judged others harshly in other lives because that has been one of greatest Crosses for me to bear in this life. People have taken the wrong attitude about me from the time I was a child.* Since I have matured and understand life better, I realize that I took it all too seriously and if I had had proper guidance through that period, it could have been handled differently. It is less important than I realized. I have also had quite a struggle to think more often of spiritual ways which I know brings the greater peace of mind than the material. The Life Reading also mentioned the change of personality, from the “Lulu” type to a more subdued type. I very definitely have a dual personality, one fighting the other.

7. Yes. Because I feel that we have to learn and suffer so much in the short span we have. It must be for the purpose of becoming more perfect for a better life again.

8. To me Karma could be a combination of a small part (d) and in the greater part (e).

9. Very definitely (2) and (3). I make a special issue of being kind to people and do overlook all petty faults as much as any human being is able to. It would require a long time to explain how much happier I feel since having worked with and had a Life Reading. I especially have acquired more patience, which is a struggle to obtain in a busy world.

10. It is more important to me to think more constructively and get along with and LIKE people.

11. I usually think things over (figure them out so to speak) at night before I go to sleep, thus, sometimes pleasant and other times unpleasant dreams!

12. My postion is to fill the need of occuping my time usefully and the always important factor of earning a living.

13. Just keep your good work going and try to keep the peoples interest both mentally and financially. Signed [4046]

R5. 4/13/51 Letter to [1523]: ”…You mentioned my glandular condition. I think that condition has really improved. I don’t seem to be troubled with back-aches the way I once was. Of course, my drinking has diminished a great deal and that would improve my health. I still have the sore breasts and

• [Re her answer 6, she told GD that when she was 15 she started flooding at her monthly period and was accused by a neighbor of having an abortion. This gossipy stigma started her off wrong as she was just beginning womanhood. Evidently this was a karmic condition from her French incarnation.]

swollen tummy each month but that is quite common among women any, I guess. My health is really excellent in comparison to lots of persons. Can’t complain about much except boredom sometimes. Guess I’m the “Rovin kind.” I feel a little tired of Boston and if it weren’t for […] I no doubt would be traveling on. It looks sort of hopeless for a future with […]. He’s Catholic and even if he doesn’t discuss religion it still plays an important role in his life and I can’t see him giving it up and there’s no way out being I’m divorced. To some men it wouldn’t matter but […] is different and in order to understand you would have to know him. Also he adores children and I think that’s out for me. Also, I am 4 years older. Even if it could be arranged, I feel he should marry someone of his own religion who could have children. It’s a hard statement for me to write but down deep it’s the way I feel. The entire trouble is that we have allowed ourselves to become so fond of each other. It’s more than physical. We are contented together no matter where we are or what we are doing and don’t need excitement, drink or other people around to be happy. I have never before been contented around any man, other than my brothers and father with whom I didn’t drink to stand them. I have a strange complex concerning men, as you know. Can you figure all of that out?… We went to Jose Iturbi’s concert here… He played 4 encores and one of the numbers was your ‘Etude’. I thought of you so much during the program…”
